I am taking the time out of my day to leave a 1-star review for Mercari based on their obnoxious tactics to make unsubscribing or leaving their platform as complicated and time-consuming as possible, in hopes that you'll give up in the process and stay trapped in their system.

Receive the 500th email you didn't want from them. Now that you're already fed up, click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email. Did you think Unsubscribe links would take you to Unsubscribe places? Mercari didn't. You are taken to a logged out page where you have to log in, and good luck remembering your ancient credentials from that one time you used their obscure site years ago.

If you're determined, or still have the time to waste, go through all the steps now to reset your password. After running to your email, resetting the password, logging in, and getting a confirmation login code from your email, you might feel utterly close to deleting your abandoned account. Sorry to inform you that now, you're fishing around in the settings menu for the undetectable 'Close My Account' button.

It's been almost 10 whole minutes now. You search 'How to delete account' in the Help Center, to find that the functionality is *only available in the mobile app*. Do you see the gaslighting here? They're trying to get you to spend as much time fishing around in both their website AND their MOBILE APP before you are truly able to escape their clutches.

So my sorry searcher had to download their app, login, get another email login code, and finally find and click, Close My Account, just to be logged out and delete the app right away.

Anyone with a brain can see that this strategy is to get people with as much screen time in Mercari's product as possible, in hopes people will be distracted out of deleting their account by something triggering their ADHD, or by simply running out of time to find the exit. It's naive and deeply annoying. Yes, all companies want to attract and retain customers. But only some of them are pitiful enough do so with deception and sabotage. Your tactics are not lost on me.

I hope this review doesn't make you lose more customers than you were able to keep with your trap tactics.

It doesn't makes any sense to wait for a review to get your money. Plus if the buyer return something you lose your time and money.

Verification
November 30, 2017

At first macari was a fantastic app. I bought alot of nice things from nice people. Always got my items on time. I had a couple of ordeals when a seller decided not to put up correct size of clothing. Macari do not do returns. You just lose your money. A couple of times macari did credit my account because of false advertisement.
I also sold alot of products which was fantastic also. I had great ratings and comments buying and selling.
But all of this was a to good to be true episode. I recently had unauthorized charges from macari on my credit card. Even though it was small amounts. I asked macari why did they charge my account. They claim it was for verification. After so call verifying my account. They never took the charges off. After I called my credit card for my own safety. I decided to put a block against macari. I was going to choose to use a debit card. Instead of using my credit card. But before I got a chance to use a debit card. Macari not only remove all of my items I was selling. But blocked me from buying again. After I repeatedly ask why couldn't I buy or sell on my account. They finally responded telling me because of unusual payments and how they are trying to keep a safe happy community they are deciding to delete my account.its funny how they made that decision after I had my credit card blocked.and decided to use a debit card.if you decide to use macari beware of unauthorized charges from macari. Even though they charge cards a little amount. They never pay it off. Just imagine taking 1.00 off of thousands of credit card users account. Thats thousands of free money they are getting.and they take little so no one will notice or complain. Well I did complain.and now they delete my account. Booooo on macari app.it was a good start with a bad ending

The good and the bad.
August 28, 2017

I've sold and bought on Mercari for years and I'm here to tell you the good and the bad. Let's start with the good, you can get a free $10 credit when you download the app and use invite code YYSGQZ when signing up. Even though there is a selling fee, compare it to other selling sites and you'll find it's not that bad. Buyers and sellers can contact Mercari if there is a problem with a transaction. They've made so many updates on the site since I started selling and they benefit the buyer and seller. As a buyer if a seller doesn't ship your item within a certain time frame you can cancel the order yourself. As a seller you can choose to ship the item via a prepaid shipping label from Mercari or ship it yourself, but always make sure to ship with a tracking number to have proof of delivery. Now on to the bad, I recommend to not buy or sell expensive items on Mercari, these items are best sold on meet up sites. I bought a laptop on Mercari and it overheated within minutes of turning it on and because Mercari couldn't "see" it overheat in photos they wouldn't allow me to return it. Mercari has good customer service but I see a lot of people complain when dealing with high priced items, so I think it's best to stay away from it. People can report your items and a majority of the time they are removed, even if they aren't against Mercari's rules, for example I listed a bundle of brand new makeup and it was flagged and removed as being used, even though it was all brand new in the packaging.

So all in all Mercari isn't that bad, just make sure you follow the rules and if something happens, stay calm and contact Mercari to get help.

I'm a new customer in mercari and I had a bad experience after they sent me a message to telling me that my account has been suspended without advice and strong reason so I asked why and they told me by message that I have irregularities in my way to pay or account and that's totally negative because I have only one way to make a payments and that's with PayPal, I'm absolutely in disappointed with mercari team, because PayPal is very serious and honest company mercari cancelled my purchases without advice and the sellers still message me because they don't know what's wrong I don't access to message the sellers and give them a explanation I think mercari made a mistake my only mistake was this morning I added a new address and that was my po box addres I assume that address it wasn't associated with my account because I have my physical address associated with my account but anyways that's not big deal because it just the address.
I think the unique thing good mercari have is the really beautiful sellers very nice but MERCARI is absolutely bad.

Mercari restricted my account because I resubmitted a purse I bought on Mercari for authenticationn at no time did the item go live for sale. In the first submittal the pictures were not clear and I was asked to provide more pictures. The Gucci purse I had just bought on Mercari was deemed not authentic. Per Mercari's Supports recommendation I resubmitted the purse with clearer pictures thinking the determination may have been a mistake and the third party authentication was in error and was reported for trying to authenticate the purse again. Mercari said I violated thier policy and was trying to sell the apparenty fake purse I had just purchased from someone on Mercari. When you authenticate an item and it us determined fake it is automatically deleted, so I wasn't trying to sell anything. My account was restricted and Msrcari took no action against their Seller. I was also sold a fake wallet and since I had not rated the selierr returned it and the seller resposted it and sold it as authentic and although I reported he relisted the wallet Mercari took no action against him, but restricted my acvount for trying to authenticate a purse I was sold

I buy hundreds of things online each year. Recently I found a few things on Mercari and placed orders. The first two transactions went smoothly. Then within two days, two of my orders were canceled by the sellers. Both of them left massages saying that the items had been sold. I understood these kind of things happen, so I just accepted what the sellers had said. But the next day, I found one of the items was listed by the same seller(Yolopetunia)on Mercari for a much higher price. I know this item is unique, I wanted to buy it, even at the new higher price, but my order didn't go through because the seller had blocked me! I tried to contact the seller. It's blocked too. I contacted Mercari for help. They were not concerned about the sellers misconduct, but advised me to look for something similar to buy. And they have no control over the seller blocking me! The didn't even try to contact the seller on my behalf to solve the problem. I didn't get any Buyer's protection from Mercari. According to Mercari's cancellation policy:"All Mercari sales are final and should only be canceled if the seller cannot fulfill the order." In my case, the seller lied to me about the item being sold. The seller lied to Mercari about the reason for cancellation. But the seller was able to list the same item the next day for a higher price without any consequences whatsoever. The seller had no proper reason to cancel my order in the first place. I have contacted BBB to file a complaint. I will stay away from Mercari and close my account there after I have received the items that I have already purchased and that have been shipped. I don't want to waste anymore of my time and energy using Mercari. There are plenty more options out there.

Mercari told me to contact my bank and i did and my bank told me that the payment of the cancelled order did go through and was processed and then the refund was never sent back to my card. Why is my account being closed when this is not my fault? I still havent recieved the refund and the payment was processed when it wasnt supposed to be and i was supposed to have a refund. I love using Mercari and have purchased many items and sold an item too. I never had a issue til this happened. I need my refund the order was cancelled and the payment was processed instead of a refund being sent back to me. My account shouldnt be closed because mercari told me to contact my bank and ask about the situation. This is not fair my account gets closed and im charged for an order that was cancelled by the seller for no reason and then my refund never came back. MERCARI NEVER SENT ME THE REFUND FOR A ORDER THE SELLER CANCELLED... THEN MERCARI LIES TO ME AND SAYS THE PAYMENT WASNT PROCESSED AND MY BANK STATEMENT AND BANK TOLD ME IT WAS PROCESSED AND THE REFUND WAS NEVER SENT. MERCARI LIED TO ME, STOLE MY MONEY AND THEN DELETED MY ACCOUNT.

So I been using Mercari for about two months+ I've sold about 20 items and bought 3. I have not had any issues at all, each and every transaction been smooth and simple.
If you want to join Mercari I HIGHLY advice you read the rules carefully. I was surprised to see how bad the reviews are for this app, but reading them I can tell people don't read the rules carefully and expect a lot from Mercari when something doesn't go correctly. SO you are putting yourself at risk by proving your address for shipping labels and bank account to receive the funds. YOU have to know what you are getting yourself into when you start selling or buying.
When someone buys an item you are selling- you ( the seller) have three days to ship the item- which I believe is too long. When the item is delivered to the buyer THEY have three full days to accept they have received the item, rate the item, and then you the seller have to rate the buyer, THEN you get paid. I think that process is SO annoying because I have had 4 people not rate me so I have to wait three days for the system to automatically provide the funds to me. I think its so incredibly rude that people wouldn't rate the seller. So with that being said, people write these horrible reviews who don't read the rules then trash the app because something went wrong.
Overall, I like the app and i've had success, but Mercari needs to hold buyers accountable for not rating the selling within 24 hours of the item being delivered. If Mercari wants to have fasters transactions and quicker turn around with products being bought and sold they need to hold buyers and sellers accountable for shipping faster and accepting delivery faster.

Total con job
December 30, 2022

I tried to purchase a used ipad mini 6 from Mercari. The site has intentionally posted a fictitious listing for a new Ipad mini 6 for $ 366.00. This listing is too good to be true, but thats ok. When I clicked on purchase, the site did not ket me know the listing has an issue, instead it made me register my details, address and the whole works, makes me do my email verification and after all of this work, it lets me know there isan issue with the listing and they are trying to get it resolved with the seller. I can bet my socks that this is a bait fake listing to get more users to register with their platform. I thought may be give them one more chance, and I decided to purchase another used iPad, and by now I am already registered. On clicking purchase, it prompts me to make an offer on the item I have selected to purchase, so I selected and clicked on a preset 10 % off button. Then it asks me for my credit card information, that was unnecessary, but anyway I gave the card number and full billing address etc, even though offer is yet to be accepted. However The agony continues. Then it says it will place 2 small purchases on my credit card to verify card. It makes me verify those 2 amounts, and after all of this elaborate drama, finally it submits my offer with a heads up that my card will be charged the moment the seller accepts my offer. So I wait, And wait, and wait some more hours. Then I continue waiting. The site does not let me know if my offer is accepted or rejected. I am left in a limbo because I cannot purchase the item from elsewhere because this offer may get accepted and my card will get charged and the item was un returnable. I still have not heard back from them after 3 days.

Anyway after 3 days of waiting I assumed my credit card won't get charged and I went back to a trusted site like my favorite Ebay, made a simple, fast purchase of a very reasonably priced used Ipad Mini 6, with just a few clicks. Wow, what a relief to shop on Ebay.

MERCARI IS A TOTAL CON JOB. I WON'T GO ANYWHERE NEAR MERCARI.COM EVER AGAIN!

My father uses Mercari to help my mother and I sell our belongings because I don't have the extra time to do so. My father listed very rare victoria's secret pink holiday ornaments. A buyer named chopperjohn1291 wanted to bundle 3 of the rare ornaments and offered $180 for all 3. Chopperjohn also purchased a set of 3 more different ones also. When chopperjohn1291 received the first order he immediately requested a refund stating they were not what he purchased. They in fact were exactly what he purchased. The second order was not showing it was shipped on Mercaris site for god knows what reason. I reached out to Mercari sending them proof from a reciept from the post office as well as tracking history printout from the post office. Mercari honored chopperjohn1291 request to cancel the 2nd order even though I had proof the package was shipped, tracked and delivered to chopperjohn1291 on 11/15/19 at 3:10 pm. There goes my hard earned money wasted along with 3 valuable ornaments and Mercari chose not to protect me and protect chopperjohn1291 the THEIF! I do not recommend this site whatseover! If you're ok with theifs, liars and bad people then this would be the selling platform for you but if not... I HIGHLY advise you to stay clear!

Last weekend I purchased a higher priced item big in size and weighing over 5 pounds before packaging... I know this because I have a similar item and wanted the other one to go with it... This was a new seller with no ratings ( i was new once so figured I would give them a chance)... Well Sunday evening I noticed the it was marked shipped and ended up taking the tracking number to the USPS website and under product information it said First Class Package... I contacted the seller and told her she would not be able to send that out using First Class the size of the box alone is 20*11*5 with again the weight being over 5 pounds... I then went to customer support and explained my concerns and they said I would just need to wait until I received item and if it wasn't correct to ask to return... I had mentioned that I could take one look at the package and I probably would know if it was the item I paid for without even opening it... Yesterday I did get package and without evening opening it let them know that indeed there was no way this was the item I purchased... Took pictures of the unopened package and showing the First Class Mercari Label for 4 ounces... Last night I did get a reply from Mercari saying to open package and send pictures of item I received... They could clearly see the package I got was no way the item that was listed and what I paid for but I went ahead and did just what they requested... I was SCAMMED! I haven't heard back from Mercari since I sent the pictures of what was in the small polyethylene mailer. At this point there should be no question that I was scammed and Mercari should give me my money back ASAP... I buy and sell on Mercari and have never had this happen to me before. Just really sucks... You would think that Mercari would have no doubts and do their best to correct this... Still waiting to hear back!
