CAUTION with Envato. They give you a hard time if you need a refund, even if you have a problem that is refundable by the refund policy. And if you pay with paypal, you pay 2$ extra but if you RAISE a DISPUTE you entire account is BLOCKED, with all of the products you bought. They don't abid the law. If you decide to buy something on Envato, buy knowing you are not supported by them and if you need, you will not get a refund without fighting.

I purchased a template that had very poor coding. I requested a refund and the author replied that I was stupid because I didn't know how to use it. (How does aligning a logo to the left using 363px padding sound!?).

I reached out to the customer support team (SUPER hard to get a hold of) and they said I had to raise a request with the author. I did, the author rejected it.

Then, you have a 5 day waiting period so that you can "Dispute" it, and the Envato team gets involved.

After 5 days, the button was still not there.

When I finally reached out, they said "bad code" is not a reason enough to get a refund. For a template, bad code is not enough!? What do I want a template for if it's not kickstart a project? What good does a poor code do if it will take me longer to fix than to launch?

Ridiculous.

CONCLUSION: Envato doesn't want anyone reaching out to them, obviously, that's why they make it so hard to get in touch with them. And if the product is faulty, you will never get a refund, they will just say any reason is not a good enough reson.

My advice: DON'T USE THIS PLATFORM!

I have used EnvatoMarket without issue for 9 years. On my most recent order for a design template, an error appeared with message that there was a problem with my PayPal payment. The template remained in my shopping cart but the payment posted. I opened a customer support request for a refund with screen shots of the error and PayPal, showing the mobey was taken. 5 days later, I
Recieved a reply from, "Lucy" that the email used for the payment dispute was not the one on file. OK, I go back to EnvatoMarket to update the request or open a new one with the on file e-mail. Suprise! My account was SUSPENDED. I responded to the e-mail via the e-mail used for EnvatoMarket account AND the e-mail used for the original request, stating my account was suspended and unable to update. The very next day, I recieved an email notification from EnvatoMarket stating my account was SUSPENDED because a payment dispute was opened! What kind of fraudulent behavior is that? I responded but the reply 3 days later claimed that due to no reply, my request would be automatically closed. I was FURIOUS. I sent no less than 60 emails, from multiple accounts with order details requesting a refund. NONE were responded to. I was forced to open a complaint via PayPal to get my refund. Horrible customer support. They lost me as a 9-year faithful customer, over a payment dispute stemming from EnvatoMarket's error. How much was my purchase / loss of loyalty worth? $10.

The amount of negative reviews I see of this company comes as no surprise. I have doing business online since the inception of the Internet and have NEVER encountered ANY company.

I was asked by my web developer to buy an upgrade of my web theme from Envato, which I had never before heard of, so he could do work on it as I requested and for which I am paying him.

I did so and afterward, without explanation, Envato subsequently locked my account, something I have found in other complaints both here and elsewhere that they tend to do for no given reason. Thinking that surely there must have been an error or misunderstanding, I asked them why, explained the situation, gave my developer's name and email address and said that I am the author of the site, which concerns the history over decades of my work as an artist.

No matter, they refused to explain their reason for blocking my account, said that it is final and that they have a right to deny service to anyone.

I also have a right to tell anyone who has any notion of doing business with them to STAY AWAY, though I suppose the other reviews here already make that obvious.

I purchased a themeforest template for a new website by Envato. The site they sent me they expressed was drag and drop and it never was, they totally mislead me. This cost USD75 and when I expressed that this was not drag and drop, they encouraged me to spend another USD50 to set it up through one of their provider and then another USD45 to buy drag and drop software. This product was never capable of doing what they said. They then have refused to refund me despite the fact I am now locked out. Ripped out and very unethical behaviour by Envato. NEVER EVER WILL USE AGAIN.

After opening a dispute with PayPal, It was only then that Envato paid attention, they asked me to close the dispute FIRST... before refunding my full money. I did close the dispute and I did get my FULL REFUND.
Envato, you simply need to refund, if your products are faulty and not give credit notes out...
By doing that you have lost any credibility where trust with other peoples hard earned money is concerned.
The negative feedback that you are getting is purely your own doing and yes, no doubt you will change your name or open a sister company, but! With a few simple checks, it can be found out who you are and where you are.
Just play the game by using DECENT respectful rules and not hide behind Giving CREDIT NOTES as a disguise to saying... "So what, I'm keeping your money" as you well know PayPal and other online banks do not take kindly to stealing peoples money... and you and I know they will lock your account and let you have to go through what you put others through to get your money back.
PLAY THE GAME BY THE RULES.
You might even start to get good feedback and get some respect from potential return customers.
At the moment I cannot see anyone trusting you right now.
But! Hopefully given time you may learn how to run a company BASED ON MUTUAL TRUST.
Right now there is NO TRUST when you accept that customers deserve a refund and then hand out CREDIT NOTES?
Change your tactics, get good customer relations and grow your business honourably.
I could go on but! Im running out of ink.:-)

Envato.com operating under Codecanyon.net refused to refund and extorts me for money (unlock my account) which they are holding my purchased software at ransom.

I bought an Android template sold through Codecanyon.net.

The software is not working. The author agrees to refund and has refunded to Codecanyon.net months ago.

But Codecanyon.net refused to to refund the same to me.

Eventually I sought help from the payment processor PayPal.com. And PayPal.com reversed the payment to me since Codecanyon.net didn't even response.

However, Codecanyon.net locked up my account and as result, I couldn't access several software I have purchased.

Codecanyon.net has been EXTORTING me illegally by stating: "Unless you manually paid us again, we won't unlock your account."

Seeking help from authoroties to compel Codecanyon.net to unlock my account immediately, and to ban their business from further harming consumers ilegally and criminally.

PATHETIC "service" from Envato. The company is a scam. BE VERY VERY CAREFUL of them. They scam buyers. If you report them via Paypal they VERY quickly lock your envato account and you can no longer access purchases you have made. They then get in touch within minutes telling you that they cannot help you until you reverse the paypal dispute. Once you do this you will never hear from their support again. No matter how many emails you send, disputes or refund requests you log. The "service consultant Cinderella Macantan who basically scammed me by getting me to reverse my paypal dispute in the promise to assist me. Once I have done that you cannot log a dispute again with paypal and you will never hear from Envato again. They are well aware that if they con you into reversing your paypal dispute that you cannot do anything further and dispute the purchase again with Paypal. Paypal should drop service to Envato as they are con artists. Cinderella Macantan is an incompetent excuse for a "service consultant and should be brought to book as she is part of the scamming process.

I'm very disappointed in https://themeforest.net for allowing Porto to remove negative reviews on their own volition. Pretty sad day. I'll also be contacting Theme Forest to let them know they are removing negative reviews. This is lying to you, the purchaser/customer. Dishonest business practice. You wonder why they have so many positive reviews? It's because they REMOVE the negative ones. Their support team has lied. Their design team has basically robbed me. I paid them $450 for a custom search feature. THEY LOGGED INTO MY OLD SITE THAT I CUSTOM CODED and COPIED THE SEARCH FEATURE I BUILT... What's even worse, is every time they updated the theme, the "custom code" I paid for, broke the search feature. So i had to go in and fix it myself. It took 35 days of going back and forth waiting 2-5 days for a response - only for them to ask a question, I answered in my original request. While the theme is highly functional, the support staff makes this not worth owning. Sad thing is, I've purchased over 100 copies of this theme for my Clients and myself. I will never be using them again and slowly switching my themes over to a new theme. Here is some proof of how bad they communicate.
