Recently purchased a Mac Pro refurbished from them. Arrived DOA. Sent back for refund that took more than 2 weeks because customer service couldn't get their act together.
I missed an opportunity at a huge contract job because these people have zero logic or expeditious handling.
They moved customer service overseas to some place that speaks English so poorly you can never understand one damned word.
There was a time when OWC was fantastic and a go-to for Mac support. Apparently that died years ago. Stay away.
I purchased a brand new iMac 27" Retina 5K with a memory upgrade to 64 GB. I had problems right out of the gate with the machine randomly restarting. Contacted tech support countless times and they blamed my OS, applications, etc. Eventually, techs determined it was a RAM issue and offered me a whopping 10% discount to replace the RAM they sold me.
I cannot express my level of disappointment with the customer service I received after years and years of being a loyal customer.
Bought a $2500 RAID drive. Started getting imminent failure notice within days. Contacted customer service & got jerked around for 10 days & repeatedly told to "just be patient". Finally spent half hour on the phone with tech support who agreed they should replace it. After wasting a ton of time "updating their new system" (new in the last 10 days? Really?) he agreed to send me a new drive, if I forked over another $370 hostage fee. Umm, you already have $2500 bucks of mine & sent me a brick. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
This is unprofessional business. They canceled my order and they tell me I have to pay 700 more for item. Company creates orders then canceled them. Buyer beware. Check out Better Business Bureau of Chicago too.
I bought a $2000 macbook pro from them, within 4 months (120 days) the touchpad started flashing everytime I opened it for about 1-2 minutes. I messaged them and they told me I only had 90 days to complain. They wouldn't even offer to take a look at the touchpad... nothing.
Please don't make the same mistake as me. Spend the extra thousand bucks and buy a new MacBook.
Item sold and shipped, just to get a return to sender request with no explanation. Made it all the way to my home state. No communication at all. When I inquired, they claim they made a mistake in pricing and the price is now double! These guys are crooks, stay away.
Waste of time, do not bother. Their items are refurbished but they are not of a good quality. They are misleading consumers into purchasing their products. You will be unhappy from the moment that you receive the device. Their customer service will promise to get back to you, and they do not.
I purchased a 4 drive array in 2019. The array included SoftRaid XT. The support has ended and I cannot download the latest software version. They quote the full purchase price to get back under support ($120) and then it is $80 a year after that. This array replaced a similar 4 drive unit with hardware Raid. Nowhere did the listing state that the software would need to be under a support agreement to stay up to date. I am done with SoftRaid and OWC aka MacSales.
I bought a thunderbolt hub on their website. During the check out process I selected Next Day Air. The website indicated it would arrive on Saturday but that was incorrect. When the thunderbolt hub arrived I had problems within a week. I notice my Mac would have a warning to not unplug drives without ejecting. But I would check and the drives were still connected via the hub. I think it did this when I was away from the KB and the warning was just still on my screen. I tried to contact their support but due to time of day (my work schedule, 12 hour shifts and being on West Coast) I could only ever email them. I never received a reply. The problem would happen intermittently and then it stopped being a problem. I tried 2 emails. Then suddenly the hub stopped working. The power supply just will chirp. I tried to email again to support, was closed, tried customer service, took 2 requests for a RMA before anyone followed through. I would like either paid return or a refund at this point. Each rep I spoke to made me angrier. At first I was ready to pay to return, the second rep made me so I angry I wanted a refund, the supervisor he passed me onto made me angry enough to write a negative review.
I purchased 2 MagSafe power adapters from OWC. They both broke within 1 month of the purchase. Initially, OWC honored their warranty since the magnets broke off inside of my computer within the first 30 days of purchase. I had hoped that both replacements would be of a better quality only to be disappointed again when BOTH replacement power adapters broke again within 10 months of use.
Same thing happened with the magnets breaking inside of my computer. So I called customer service to seek a replacement again only to find out that their "warranty" is only good for 12 months from the date of the ORIGINAL purchase!?! What good does that do on a replacement if you can't even offer the same warranty on the replacement.
Customer service provided ZERO care about their product failing for the second time and basically told me too bad, that is how their warranty works.
Honestly, I feel completely ripped off because now I have 2 broken power adapters and for the price I paid for these piece of crap refurbished ones, I could have just purchased new ones from Best Buy.
I will NEVER purchase anything from a company that cannot even stand behind their products. DO NOT waste your time or money on OWC.
I I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction concerning the failure to deliver my order of two Mac computers, which I had expected to receive on July 7th, 2023. I promptly completed the purchase transaction and made the requisite payment of $721, in anticipation of a prompt and safe delivery. However, this expectation was unfortunately met with sheer disappointment.
The UPS tracking number 1Z34A*******759 was provided to me for monitoring the delivery progress. According to the tracking system, the package had been marked as 'Delivered' on the specified date. Nonetheless, upon receiving this notification, I found that no such package had been delivered. Given the value and importance of the items involved, this miscommunication has caused a great deal of inconvenience and frustration on my part.
I immediately contacted OWC.com Sales Team, where I was reassured that this was a common occurrence and that the package would arrive later. Trusting their assurance, I patiently waited for the remainder of Friday, all through Saturday, and again on Monday, but the package failed to get delivered.
Upon contacting OWC.com Sales Team for the second time regarding this issue, I was informed they would attempt to resolve the problem and they were going to Contact UPS. However, to my disappointment, I was shortly met with an email stating they were unable to assist me further. This response, considering the circumstances, seemed incredibly dismissive and inadequate, failing to rectify the situation or provide any constructive solution.
The failure to deliver my purchased items and the subsequent inability to adequately assist me in the resolution of this matter is an unacceptable level of service. I am left without the products I paid for, while also dealing with the stress and inconvenience this situation has induced.
In light of these events, I request that my case be reviewed and that a suitable course of action be taken immediately. This should include conducting a thorough investigation into the whereabouts of my package and providing a detailed explanation for its disappearance.
Additionally, if the package cannot be recovered, I request a full refund of the $721 I paid for the undelivered products. Given the gravity of this situation, it is only fair that my hard-earned money be promptly returned if the purchased goods cannot be provided.
I trust that you will treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves and take the necessary steps to rectify the situation. Your immediate attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to a satisfactory resolution.
I ordered a Sapphire Prism Radeon RX 580 video card from OWC thinking it was new. It was priced at $200 which is twice as much as a used card goes for on eBay. The product page did say it was used, but it was not very obvious. When I asked to return it for a refund, they denied my request and said the sale was final. Don't pay these guys twice the price for used goods and shady marketing.
The OWC Thunderbolt dock 1GB port delivers less than 600Mbps speed. When I pointed this out tech support told me that the other chipsets use the "bandwidth" even when not in use. No warranty replacement, no repair, just suck it up. One of the f'n worse sellers on the internet. Buyers beware.
Only a few days past their 90day warranty - obviously a video chip/board going bad. Answer I received back was a "sorry - should have contacted us sooner.". No attempt whatsoever to attempt any help!
OWC just scammed me! I've been an OWC customer of OWC's for well over 20 years, buying mostly hard drives from them. Recently I made a huge mistake buying a refurbished 2019 16" Macbook Pro from them. Knowing they are intent on selling this defective computer again to some other unsuspecting customer I decided to post this review.
After only four days of use, the computer began making a "pinging" sound, over and over again, even when sitting idle. I spent hours trouble-shooting this, determining that it only happened when it was running on AC with something plugged into a port. I spent hours on the phone with Apple Care, but they were unable to get it to stop. I made a recording of the pinging and took the computer to my local Apple Genius Bar. The Apple technician immediately knew what it was: He said the computer was drawing too much power, causing it to repeatedly cycle on and off. He said the motherboard needed to be replaced. But he warned me in no uncertain terms to return the computer to OWC for a refund because this computer was a lemon. Apple's records showed its motherboard had already been replaced twice in 4 years, one of those times by a non-certified repairman! Of course OWC was or should have been fully aware of this.
I sent a lengthy email to OWC explaining the problem, attaching the audio file. A few days later I was stunned to hear they were charging me a 15% restocking fee of $240. I spoke to a "manager" named Liz who claimed their technicians couldn't get it to malfunction and so they were going to charge me. I reminded her it took four days for the problem to surface for me, and asked her how long the OWC techs tested it. She didn't know how long, and didn't really seem to care. She repeated that their online return policy makes clear that in order to receive a full refund their techs have to be able to reproduce the problem and that OWC was entitled to charge me $240.
Coincidentally, the very next day I took a different Apple computer of mine in to be repaired at Mac Hollywood, a highly-regarded Apple repair store in Los Angeles. When I mentioned to the head technician the problems I had with the OWC computer and played him the recording of the pinging sound, he immediately diagnosed it exactly the same way as the Apple Genius Bar tech, assuring me the motherboard needed replacing.
So I called OWC and was directed to Liz again. I told her that a second highly-qualified Apple technician had diagnosed the motherboard as the problem. She said she would let the OWC technicians know that. I asked her if their technicians tested it for four days and were able to reproduce the problem themselves, would OWC give me a refund? She replied that my case was closed. I told her I was concerned that OWC would be re-selling this computer to some other unsuspecting customer. She didn't express any particular concern about that.
What kind of company puts a person like that in a customer relations position? Never once did she ever say something like "I'm sorry you have been so inconvenienced." From the very beginning I could tell Liz wasn't the least bit interested in genuinely solving my problem.
Now that I am actually posting this review, I see that OWC has predominantly very negative reviews, which comes as no surprise. OWC knows full well the history of this computer's motherboards, so you would imagine they might even feel a bit of shame for selling this to me. But they know what they're doing.
Very frustrated, a waste of time and money! - ordered an upgrade SSD pcie for my imac from them, when it came, it was faulty, did not work. (Also upgrade kit tools they sent were useless, fell apart, had to purchase them from a local diy store). So contacted them to say SSD upgrade was not working, was outside the 30 day refund period, agreed to an instore credit -had to send the faulty SSD back, I covered it, they refused to credit the taxes etc, even though their product was faulty and still under warranty. I had to ring to use my instore credit, was an hour on the phone with the agent making sure the new order was correct, even sent my imac system spec per email. Also I paid for a expensive UPS postage option that covered all import and custom duties. Order arrived, had to pay again for import duties! Also order missing important bracket to install SSD. 3 months later down a ton of money and time, still can't close up the iMac. Absolutely useless. My advice, order from Amazon, or find a different provider, if anything goes wrong, you are the one paying and keep on paying!
Terrible experiencia bad service, sold me a defective unit, returned to service dept. on my dime, only to get it back in the same non working condition. Look elsewhere for your computer needs.
Purchased a Mac charger, but I ordered the wrong kind (L-shaped plug-in), which was absolutely my mistake. Called customer service, but they wouldn't offer a refund or trade. However, they did upsell me an adapter (another $10 or so) that would convert my wrong charger into the correct one. That adapter works only sporadically, so if I don't keep checking on it, I can't tell if it's charging my machine at all or if I'm still running on battery. Will not buy from OWC again.
Clearly it stated I had 10 extra days to return my product, after the 30 days for return. However they did not honor that at all, even though I was going to buy a upgrade and give them more money. Very disappointing
Some of the products are excellent but have a mandatory "SoftRAID" install. Ive been told that the Accelsior PCIe RAID can be turned to Apple RAID but when walked through the process with tech support it bricked the product which is now in on RMA. I find some of the choices of the business model to be incomprehensibly stupid (RAID 5 for the larger multi-bay drives as default, SoftRAID as default), tons of uneccessary packaging etc but several of the products are actually a great solution (4M2 enclosure, PCIe NVME RAID, TB3 and Pro Dock). I want to like this company but just cant.
Upgrade the RAM and storage of nearly any Apple computer at MacSales.com. We also provide refurbished Macs, external storage, docks, accessories, and more!
