“Men's traditional relaxed fit tee shirts”

Ruth H.
4/24/23

I love these shirts! They are my go-to summer wear. I wish they still sold the Dark Olive color though and made new colors too. I got shoe polish on my old olive shirt, and it washed out!. They get better with washings. And the weight is perfect. They are worth the price. Just miss my olive color. I'm from Maine originally, so I feel like I have a piece of "home" wrapped around me.I met Mr. Bean when a child. He was at the door greeting people. Good memories.

“LL Bean Boots Suck”

Paul C.
11/7/23

Their boot they so highly praise blew stitching 2 years in. Customer service was the worst from any company I have ever dealt with totally brutal. They wanted me to ship it to the US and pay for th restitch after two years of normal use and then fought back and forth between Maine and store as to whose fault / responsibility it was. Please if you value quality and customer service you are better off somewhere else...anywhere...

At 5:23 a.m. Nov. 18th I ordered snow boots for my wife. She saw the confirmation email at 6:30 a.m. and brought to my attention that the boots were the wrong size. At 7:05 I contacted the company and told them I needed to change the size. They told me it was too late to change the order and the boots will be delivered on November 30th. When they arrive I`ll have to send them back at their expense and they`ll send me the proper size boots, again at their expense. It`s inexcusable that they couldn`t change the order 90 minutes after receiving it. We had better IT in the steel mill in the 1970s. The package wasn`t being shipped for at least another 10 days and they couldn`t change the order. Unbelievable!

Shoe was fine, but one month after warranty ran out, the left shoe started leaking. I checked the bottom, side, top, toe could not find where the leak was happening. I called and thought LL Bean would have at least given me a discount as the warranty ended at 12 months, the leaked started one month later. No more LL Bean for me. Not sure where they were made, maybe China now. Quality not the same.

I purchased shirts from LL Bean - dress shirts - and all of them developed a specific defect. A set of holes (little tears) appeared - regularly spaced around the collar. On six different shirts. In the same place.

I sent pictures to customer service, asking whether there had been other reports of poor quality with these shirts. There was no meaningful response.

After years of purchasing from LL Bean, I have now shifted to other companies.

Items that used to be high quality are now more like Walmart goods. The costly sheets I ordered, after less than half a year, resemble ones in my closet that are 25 years old. The return of said sheets has taken over a month so far. My money is tied up until the long-awaited refund comes through. It is indeed an unnecessary long wait. After all, when you purchase, they take your money IMMEDIATELY. Very poor service when it takes over a month to get that money back due to a faulty product.

Tip for consumers:
look for another high end place. LLBean is no longer a high quality place

Products used:
sheets for only a few months

Wow. Totally misleading information about "when we ship"... when I purchased (11/15) the wreath, the site said, "we start shipping Nov 20 and your order will arrive 5-7 business days." Today the tracking said "Dec. 5" and it's nowhere near its destination. No wonder people have complained about the dried-out wreaths! Never again.

I had 2 gifts cards given to me. I can't use them for online orders and the items I want aren't available to be ordered through our Kitchener Ontario store. Not acceptable! If you sell gift cards, you should be able to use them!

LL Bean used to set the gold standard in customer service. Not this summer. They have missed shipment dates, put items on back order and cancelled orders without notification. Shipped orders take 10 days or more to be delivered. I have tried to call them and my calls were dropped. I asked for a return call an no one called. I sent them an e-mail - no response. Either their system is totally messed up or they no longer care. The quality of their merchandise is above average. Their customer service has totally denegrated which is quite surprising and disappointing.

On April 16 I ordered a couple items to take on vacation. Received a notice tonight one item - the swimsuit - has been shipped. Unfortunately, too late for my vacation. Foresaw this happening and purchased a great REEBOK swimsuit to take with me. Not going to patronize LLBean for a very long time and only if I can't find a similar item elsewhere. Who knows when the other items I ordered will arrive?

For the past 50 years or so I've worn LL Bean shirts and pants. I appreciated that I could get sizing to fit me, and having an unquestioned warrantee sealed the deal. Then LL started making everything in Cheapo, and they had to change their returns policies. Recently, three of my barely-used LL Bean shirts failed, the fabric ripping into holes. And the new return policies made getting a refund or replacement a pain in the posterior. I simply decided that LL Bean was no longer trustworthy.

The outer layer came off one wheel of my L. L. Bean Rolling Adventure Duffle, and the wheel on the other side is cracking. Customer Service says L. L. Bean does not repair these bags nor does it have replacement wheels. The company recommends I take the duffel to a luggage shop. I expect a company with such a venerable reputation to stand behind the products it sells. I am disappointed with both the durability of the Rolling Adventure Duffle and with L. L. Bean's response.

They lost my package. After I contacted them, it took them a few days to confirm that it was lost at a distribution Center. They could not just send another one although they had same product: I had to call and place the order again. I was charged again, and I had to provide a credit card number over the phone, which I was not comfortable with. Refund for the lost order took two weeks to process.

I bought a wool sweater. I wanted to take it hiking with me. The sweater looks nice but have hole in it not tight weaving. $80 I never use. I heard they are a outdoor store. They need to say we're it it made too.

I have been an LLBean customer for decades. I would agree that they have been a fine company to deal with and buy from for most of that time. However, and sadly, in the last year from my own experience, they have drastically changed their returns process. Whereas before, on the rare occasions when I needed to return something due to a workmanship defect, they were prompt, courteous, and sincerely interested in making whatever was wrong, right. As you may know, in the last several years, they changed from an open date return policy to a more typical, one year policy. Unfortunate, but understandable. But this last year, they have started micro managing each return, and challenging anything they can to try and say that a defect is "normal wear", in order to keep from having to stand by their warranty of even a year. The recent experience I had was to order in November 2021, a pair of their lined, double soled bison house slipper mocs. Wonderfully comfortable, and a delight in every way. Because of their materials and excellent construction, I presumed they would live longer than I would. However, the right slipper wore through the outer leather sole by Feb 2022. Odd, but I put it down to a thin piece of leather that had slipped through the QC process. Returned for an exchange. Finally received a call mid March from the "Returns Evaluation Dept" trying to say that, although they hadn't seen any significant number of this item being returned, perhaps this was Normal Wear and Tear.
Pointing out that the other shoe showed no signs of wear-through made no impression. Pointing out that this was a house slipper and not a running shoe made no dent in the absurdity of this position. Reluctantly, the person to whom I spoke agreed to send the replacement, but only with the admonition that if this were to happen again, it wouldn't be honored under their warranty.
Conclusion: Somebody in Cost Containment has clearly gotten the idea that the returns dept is a big problem and must be brought to heel. Presumably, if this is not just my individual experience, this will be an unfortunate, but passing, phase, since it will ultimately dampen sales. For now, I can only say that I will consider shopping with them on par with any other typical, big box clothing/outdoor store. And I will assume that I am considered simply a consumer unit, and not an appreciated customer. If I buy, fine; if I don't, fine. I can always be replaced with another consumer unit.

I have worn out 2 lined hoodies over the years. I just purchased another. When you can compare an older product to a new one the difference in quality is easy to see. The weight is much lighter, the cotton count is lower. The sleeves are no longer lined. LL Bean has traditionally been known of functional active wear. This hoodie looks good but I can tell it will not be as warm or durable as the older version. Why is it that companies manufacturing this type of clothing pay little attention to their actual purpose? This hoodie is supposed to keep you warm, keep the chill out. It looks good but won't provide any protection against the weather. Poorly done LL Bean!

The Management of the Charlottesville store has its sales clerks making enforcement of mask rules their FIRST priority. I get it - wearing a mask out in public is the right thing to do. But to be approached by a sales clerk and be told to put my mask higher on my face instead of first asking if I need assistance, shows a lack of respect and appreciation for my business. This experience took place in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday when the store was nearly empty of shoppers. Management needs to teach its staff how to handle this situation in a customer-friendly manner.

I've bought many things through the years from Bean. The first ting I noticed was the waffle shirts were half as thick and now on the round collar long sleeve shirt the material around the top is much less substantial. Bean you are forcing me to go elswhere.

It used to be that LL Bean service exceeded all others. I ordered some items a week ago and the status still says In Progress. I called Customer Service and was greeted with a busy signal. I tried Chat and it told me the expected wait time was 60 minutes. What has happened to LL Bean.

It breaks my heart that L. L. Bean has now taken the same road as Lands' End and Eddie Bauer by eliminating quality and selection. Practically my entire closet contains clothes from these 3 companies. Where oh where am I going to buy my clothes now, after so many years? I just want to cry.

I recently ordered a pair of slippers that did not fit even though I followed LL Bean's sizing recommendations. In order to exchange them, I had to pay the shipping to send the slippers back and then the shipping to have a new pair reshipped. In today's mail order retail economy, this is a terrible shipping policy. As a result, I returned the slippers and will not order another size and LL Bean will totally lose this sale. There are plenty of other retailers who make quality slippers without the personal cost of all that shipping.

I have been an LLBean customer for my family for about 35 years. I've noticed over the last several years the quality has not been up to their old standards. Purchased a 850 Down men's jacket about 3 to 4 years ago. The outer shell ripped when I called customer service they said put tape on it as it could not be repaired. My wife wouldn't go out with me as she said it looked ridiculous. I bought a second one in fall of 1999 for $175 to 200. Noticed the chest pocket was now smaller as iphones fell out of it all the time unless you always zippered it.( save fabric material and save money. Again the shell developed holes or rips. Called customer service and again they told me to put tape on it and actually recommended a tape brand, fabric cannot be repaired. Here is picture.

I LOVE their return policy and I bought my mother a jacket that did not fit her. I was able to easily return it and while they did not have her size in that color, they offered me a refund. That is just fine. However, I have been waiting on this refund for a month. I purchased with a credit card so it would be possible to just electronically remedy this. However, they are sending a check. The check they first sent was off by $100. I still have not received the remaining refund. I actually DO think I will see that money, it's just that this entire transaction seems absolutely too slow for 2017.
