LiveCareer Reviews Summary

The company's customer service approach is characterized by a mix of commendable support and significant concerns regarding billing practices. Many customers praise the helpfulness, professionalism, and genuine nature of the representatives, noting positive experiences in resolving issues quickly. Worst sales rep ever
August 22, 2015

BEWARE!

I warn all users to stay away from this website I deleted my account confirmed this with a rep and got charged 3 times for $44 Canadian and the representatives did not offer any compensation or refund, you ;d think cancelling the account and having that confirmed when you clearly say I want to cancel so I'am not charged again would resonate but nope they well continue to bill you for absolutely nothing and you will continually get disconnected trying to explain this to them over chat, they also won't give me any information on when I deleted my account so my credit card company won't even reimbursement.

WORST EXPERIENCE ONLINE EVER.

Very handy service
August 21, 2015

I needed a resume fast. The templates are easy to use and very helpful.
My only issue is with closing the account. Should be a little easier. Otherwise a great service.

I google FREE resume templates and they came up. Little did I know that only building the resume was free and that I would have to pay to save it. You can call me naive and tell me that's how the world works, but keep in mind, I'm 24. The last time I built a resume I was 20 and the site I used was COMPLETELY free. Anyway I didn't want to pay a monthly fee because I'm unemployed and can't afford to be charged monthly for something I only used once and don't need anymore. So when I paid I USED A GIFT CARD! So how they got my credit card information is beyond me. They're just lucky I decided to check my account one day. I went to my bank to see if they'll credit me the money and, they said that they would, but they would have to file a fraud claim first. So they told me to talk to them first and, if they don't give me my money back, they'll happily put in the claim and refund me themselves. Gotta love banks having your back. This site clearly doesn't.

Hi Katie M.,

I’m very sorry that you have had this experience with our service. The free account gives you the ability to try out the Resume Builder to get a feel for how it works, and see what it has to offer before deciding to purchase. There is no cost to TRY it out. At this time we do offer free text (. Txt) download of your resume. But if you would like a professionally formatted version you need to subscribe.

We also explain that the subscription is auto-renewing. We state this on every page in the purchase process and we send a payment confirmation email stating the date and amount of the auto- renewal. We do offer several ways to cancel including by phone, live chat, email and self-cancellation in your Account Settings.

We are very committed to providing great customer service and again are very sorry that you had this experience. We take all feedback very seriously. It will be forwarded to our Marketing team. Please contact me directly if you have any further issues. Please email me at anna.b@livecareer-support.com

According to the sales reps: The company stands on a platform as if they give full disclosure, and everything is "clearly stated in the email" but it is a total scam! If it weren't a scam they would just give a refund! I went into my settings, and deleted my account prior to the end of the 14 day trial, yet the $39.80 charge showed up today on my statement--- because they hide the way to cancel under "subscription" tab. What is the difference between the two? If I want to delete my account wouldn't that end my subscription? No, not here. They are charging people based on a technicality and it is CRAP!
I love how in the other reviews ANNA [customer service rep] copy and pastes the same reply to all the poor reviews... It would have been so much easier to just write my own resume, rather than deal with unjust billing of my account.
Worst experience with customer sales reps EVER!

Hi Stefani G.,

I’m very sorry that you have had this experience with our site and did not have the best customer service experience. Aside, from the cancellation in your Account Settings, we also offer several ways to cancel including by phone, live chat and email.

Deleting an account means you will not be able to access any of your resumes, cover letters, or emails. This action cannot be undone. However, cancellation stops the auto-renewal.

Please contact me directly with the last 4 digits of the card that used to purchase and card holder’s name so that I can take a look at it personally and resolve this issue quickly for you. Please email me at anna.b@livecareer-support.com

I look forward to hearing from you.

I subscribed understanding there would be a charge for the service. This big problem is trying to cancel. I used the cancel subscription button and I still was charged twice! Once for $35.80 and then two weeks later for $39.80. I called to make sure it was cancelled. Well we will see... hope no more charges come out or I am going to be livid. I would have given this company a 5 star rating until I came across the trouble of canceling.

I wanted something quick and easy - well not so quick and not so easy. It imported my current resume and completely screwed up the formatting. When I tried to rewrite it, it kept formatting it incorrectly and after hours of messing about with it to save it I had to pay for the pleasure. Not so much, but the auto renew function really is just a way of stealing money. I usually pride myself on not getting caught by auto renews, but this one certainly managed it. And seriously £20 a month for a resume service - SERIOUSLY!
The only positive thing about my experience was the live chat customer service who sorted it all and cancelled my subscription in about 2 minutes flat. Now THAT's service.

Hi Lucy P.,

I’m very sorry that you have had this experience with our site and encountered formatting issues. Our free account gives you the opportunity to try out our resume builder before deciding to purchase. The ability to print, email, or download your resume and cover letters are features included in our paid subscription and not listed as a feature of the free account. You can download a plain text version of your resume for free.

We also explain that the subscription is auto-renewing. We send a payment confirmation email upon purchase stating the date amount of the auto-renewal. The details of the subscription are also listed on the sales page. A monthly subscription makes it easy for our customers to customize the resume and cover letter for each position for which they are applying, and also to avoid interruption on the service. Customers can cancel at any time, and we do offer several ways to cancel including by phone, live chat, email and self-cancellation in your Account Settings.

We are very committed to providing great customer service and again are very sorry that you had this experience. We take all feedback very seriously. It will be forwarded to our Marketing and Product team. Please contact me directly if you have any further issues. Please email me at anna.b@livecareer-support.com

Like other reviewers I was lured in with the promise of a "FREE" resume, then found out you must purchase access to be able to print or email it for $1.95. No problem, it seemed like a good deal... until it automatically bills you $40 per month without your knowledge! After 6 months of not knowing I finally figured out what was happening... asked for a refund and was able to only get the most recent month's charge back. Terrible business practice! I did not get the value for my $200 USD that paid them for sure!

Update: A company that is truly "committed to providing great customer service" would not allow so many of its customers to feel as if they were stolen from. Instead, a company "committed to providing great customer service" would be happy to provide a product/service for fair value. I would be happy to pay for a great resume builder. There is no need to lure people in and employ sneaky billing practices. I did not receive fair value for the amount I paid, period, and the attitude of the company is uncaring. Livecareer, I hope you enjoyed the $200 you got out of me. Apparently 18,981 people have viewed this review so far, so I think that the amount of money that you have probably lost from all of those who will now not use your services will far exceed the quick cash you made from me. I hope you choose to seriously evaluate your business model in the future and actually choose to provide that great customer service you speak of someday.

RIP OFF
August 18, 2015

Tried to sign up for the cheapest service and it signed me up for $100 a year that they would not refund. So, I got to download a resume template for $100. Then they snuck an email through that did not go into my primary mailbox saying that I had to cancel by 7/7/15 to not be billed again. 1 and a half months later I notice the charge on my credit card during a time when I really need the money. Thanks! So of course they would not refund the money. Do yourself a favor and just download a template online for free. This company is a SCAM. Useless.

Bad Business
August 17, 2015

I wish I had read this page before using Live Career. My experience is the same as others who have posted. Used the resume trial and didn't realize you had to cancel or they'd automatically charge your account the monthly fee. Additionally, there were a few charges for "international fees"... The representative told me they've made it perfectly clear that unless you cancel, your account would be automatically billed. BAD Business! This should be illegal!

Terrible Ethics!
August 15, 2015

LiveCareer sounds like a great deal at first. But what they don't tell you is that once they have your credit card number to pay for your supposed $1.95 resume, they're going to charge it AGAIN $39.80 in 14 days. We had NO IDEA, there was no information or fine print indicating this would happen. After our card was charged $39.80, we called the customer service number from the website and were sent to a call center outsourced to India. In addition to the frustrating language barrier, we were told they could do nothing to refund our money. According to the representative, the confirmation email from the original resume we paid for included information about our card being charged $39.80 if we didn't call and cancel in a 14 days window. We never even opened the confirmation email - who does anymore? This is false advertising and very misleading marketing! How sad too, because the resume program is actually very nice and helpful. Had LiveCareer been honest about open, honest, and outright about their monthly plans, I would have had some respect for them. But burying terms and conditions that were NOT AGREED to, inside a confirmation email is completely unacceptable. We will be disputing this charge with the bank first thing on Monday and post more reviews to help others avoid falling into this unfair trap. LiveCareer, stop ruining your good product with false advertising!

I only wanted the 14 day subscription but then it said it would auto renew but i could cancel by going to my account settings. Every time I try to go to the account settings it gives me an error page. Not very happy. I've sent two emails so we'll see if they respond. If I get this issue taken care of in a timely manner I will adjust my rating but if I end up getting charged the renewal fee I will take further action. I just wish I had read these reviews first because I'm obviously not the only person having this problem.
