I choose this company because I saw it on TV and Facebook ads. I placed my order when it was 50% off. (I've since seen it offered for 60% off.) I wanted all my videos digitalized and had a few photos to fill the package I chose. It said 6-8 weeks so I thought I had plenty of time. I did received updates through the process on where my photos and videos were at. Then we scheduled my dad's memorial service. I got an email udating me on the order, but I wanted more clarification. Seth was the senior customer service rep who responded. I got a canned response that included this was their busiest time of year. I pushed him for more than the standard response which I got. I explained that they had 50 photos I needed. He ended up putting a rush on it and I got my materials on Thursday night before my dad's service on Saturday. I appreciated all Seth did to help me. The rush was done at no charge.
I will say that I think the cost is high. I know some of my videos had less than 15 minutes on them. I wish there was a way for them to give you a ballpark cost, review the materials, then adjust the cost when you only have a few minutes of video on a tape.
Legacy Box was professional, cordial and accurately processed our vintage family media. We will all be enjoying these safely restored images for years to come.
In 2018 I paid to have several VHS converted to digital files with Legacy Box. I was given a Google Drive link and it worked well up until January 2023 (with a couple exceptions in which files could not be downloaded for some reason). In January 2023, all downloads in the folder said they had errors. I tried to troubleshoot it myself over a few months since Legacy Box customer service is difficult to get in contact with but had no success. I reached out to them in June 2023 and learned they had changed their pricing and structure so that the digital downloads I had received 5 years ago were no longer good and that I'd have to re-purchase them. After going back and forth with them, they were going to "only" charge me for a subscription to access my downloads. When I finally caved and agreed to pay for this subscription service, they said they actually lost all my files and I will need to send my tapes in again and pay to have them converted again. I will never trust Legacy Box again as their customer service and communication is extremely poor and I no longer have access to precious family memories.
Legacybox received my items on February 25th, and I'm still waiting to receive my completed order today, June13th. That's 108 days, and guess, what? They've just let me know that my items are still "waiting for a spot to open up so our technicians can digitally preserve your recorded moments!". So essentially, nothing has been done with my order that they've had for almost FOUR MONTHS!. When I placed my order, they said it would take 6-8 weeks. If you see that advertised, DON"T BELIEVE IT. I wish I had read the reviews before I chose this company. In the last couple months, I've read many reviews from poor suckers who are in the same boat I am, waiting for many months, and from people who either didn't get their items at all or got them back damaged or unusable. At this point, I wouldn't encourage anyone to use them, because their marketing is a lie and their communication/transparency is awful, and their process seems to be a hot mess. I'm crossing fingers that I do eventually get my items. I will update this review with progress, and if what I get is wonderful, I'll be happy and relieved to let you all know. Fingers crossed.
I found the only copy of a VHS of my sister's wedding. Digitalizing it with Legacybox revived the day and brought back memories.
It was a great gift to my sister and now to her grown up kids.
I have now placed two orders with LegacyBox, I was so satisfied with the first order I placed a second. The kids and grandkids are loving seeing us and our parents when we were young.
Hi Robert, Thanks for your feedback! We are so happy to hear that you had such a seamless experience with us. We aim to deliver an effortless process to take the worry out of preserving your precious memories! We hope you enjoy sharing those memories with your family for years to come.
Address on box: 515 N Holtzclaw Ave Chattanooga, TN *******
Just got an email offer from "Kodak Digitizing Box" which sounds all too similar to LegacyBox. At bottom of offer is the above address which was the address on the actual box I sent my legacy box stuff to/received.
In Mar 2022, I placed an order for about 20 cassettes to be digitized to a thumbdrive. After months of robo-emails spewing fake happiness about the safety and efficiency of the operation, I sent an email and got a response on July 13,2022 that my order would be shipped back within 3 weeks. It has been 3 weeks and no order, and no money back, and no way of warning others. To say I am deepy disappointed that I didnt find this review website sooner is an understatement. Update: 8/13/2022 I finally got my thumb drive and am going through the contents (<1Tb). At this point, I'm glad I got my tapes back (20) and can only hope the thumb drive doesn't have a lot of corrupted files or files which can't be read by the music player. This was an extremely frustrating experience. Pls note I left reviews elsewhere but for the other sites' reasons, this is the only one I can update. I may be generous on the stars, but frankly I'm exhausted after dealing w/ this company and their litany of excuses and robo-emails
Sent 70 VHS. Paid for the full expedite. Transfer was fast, but only half came back. Rest marked can't transfer. However, Dazzle software and a VHS player I'm able to transfer them fine. Legacy cites mold. But on their website they say they'll try. Clearly didn't try if I can do it with home equipment. For large orders you have to call to get orientation on how to send. It was pretty convienent in the end. Howver, all that came back was a USB drive in a little envelop. No stating sorry could only transfer half, no explanation of the file names, no explanation of the red stickers. I called and they explained and asked if I wanted refund for what couldn't transfer. Also many of the tapes were returned in a different sleave from the one I sent them in. It's just so weird in a process where you are sending family records usually to convert for a gift, the emotional stakes are kind of high and the communication was never proactive. Don't know if I would have gotten money back if I didn't call. And it's the kind of service where mentally you prepare yourself to pay the premium to have someone else do it, but then they don't do big chunk of the tapes. They are clearly there to cash in on the easy tape transfer money and send back the hard stuff. But isn't that the stuff you'd want to pay for a service? They also don't organize the files or titles (not that I was expecting that). They claim mold could ruin their equipment.
If they had done all the tapes in that time, I would have been floored 5 stars. It was super quick.
Hi Robert, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We wholeheartedly apologize that we could not convert your whole order. To provide some context, we do not convert items that have mold on them because it can ruin our equipment which can prevent us from converting other orders and we do not want to expose our technicians to harmful substances. Here is helpful article in our Support Center: https://help.legacybox.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001102587-Can-you-transfer-moldy-or-water-damaged-tapes-

I am so happy with my Legacy box experience, it was fast, easy, and my videos to DVD came out great to revisit some old memories. I would recommend Legacy box to all my friends and family
It was great I was able to convert my old home videos into DVD. Its great because now I don't have to pull out or take my camcorder everywhere with me and charge it just to watch my videos.
I have been looking for a way to preserve years of memoriers, and this has been so fun to look at all of the videos again. Now I will be able to look at them again whenever I want.
Will not answer phone and can not get any customer service. They make sure you give them money up front then when they get your money will not speak to yoiu.
Last Dec 2020, I sent 42 vhs tapes to Legacy, I had all my videos sequenced with #'s and dates. I think but don't remeber that I wanted a thumb drive back, but the converted videos were put on Google cloud. Here is what has me pissed off. Their # system is just f***up, They put a sticker on the tape, right over my tilte and date (How whacked is that) The numbers start with this one *******-10, and they go up by 10's, but their 1st one doesn't match my 1st one by date. Now we go to the cloud to view the digitized vids. First off you can not view most of mine in the cloud, it says it hasn't been formated, but some you can see. Second, the numbering system for the cloud is not the same as whats on the sticker. They start with *******000 and go up by a 1000 for each one and it doesn't match up with the sticker. So I have to download then all, figure out what order they put them in and then put them on a thumb drive. I'm not a happy camper, and I think that the quality is average not great on the conversion. I'll never do any more business with them, nor will I recommend them.
I purchased a package for Legacybox through HSN or QVC (don't remember which) last November. The price was awesome! In the package I got 20 tapes, a flash drive and they got put in the cloud. We ordered 2 extra sets for our kids. We sent them out in November and received them back in January. We viewed them to make sure they were okay. The DVDs were horribly pixelated and as the DVDs played on the sound didn't match up. I wrote to Legacybox about them problem. They were very nice about the situation and sent us postage to ship the VHS and 8mm tapes back and they would redo them for us, no charge. Awesome!
We got the new DVDs back in the end of January or February. We put one or two different DVDs in and the description on the DVDs didn't match to what was on the DVD! The sound also was not much better and they were still very pixelated. So not much improvement and they were not numbered correctly. We realize we should have notified the company right away but didn't because we thought that maybe it was just those 2 that were off and decided to go through each one before we contacted them. Our bad! Then of course the pandemic hit. We kept putting off the dreaded task of checking each DVD. Again, our bad! We didn't not end up going through all the DVDs until today (Oct. 19) and only 3 match the description. One also has only about 30 minutes on the DVD when it should have about 2 hours. We know we can't do anything about our DVDs but just want to make sure the next person is careful when buying a Legacybox, making sure to check all DVDs as soon as you get them.
2 of 3 8MM films were successfully transferred to DVD; I knew one would be a problem as it has become nearly impossible to play in a projector. My one beef is for how the DVD is created. I wanted to rip the DVD to pull out the two films into separate MP4's. But the way the DVD is created, it appeared to my ripping software to be one long file (and then a short file which was a portion of one film. Not sure what went on there, but I was able to manipulate the DVD files directly and recover the content and create the two MP4's via VLC. I believe I had a similar issue on a previous transaction. I will say that I do have confidence that the material makes it form end to end (though there is always a dependency on the shipper and I've recently have packages lost by both UPS and Fedex).
I had some old 8mm and 16mm movies transferred to digital format. I also had a set of slides converted. I used a groupon which made the whole thing a good value as well.
We are so glad that you chose us to digitize your films and slides, Tom!
It's amazing how your movies can be digitalized and preserved. The team was helpful when we called with questions. A great experience have now sent in another order!
Thank you, Lisa! We are excited to digitize more of your media!
I sent in my irreplaceable tapes and vids over 4 months ago. They never communicate or respond to emails or voicemails. If you choose the callback option they never call you back. It says 10-12 weeks on the worst case to transfer and return materials. They only responded when I contacted the BBB and offering me rush priority service after almost 4 months with no contact whatsoever except daily marketing emails. They made excuses about being short staffed. When the DVDs and USB stick arrived half the videos these incompetents sent back were blank and many videos like my wedding video I know is good were missing. Many videos are recorded in quick scan mode with nothing but snow and static. You can see how the operator is holding the wheel. No quality control was done. No pre inspection of the tapes was done and of course they charged me 100s of dollars for blank videos. I am reporting fraud with Amex and demanding a refund. You would have to be insane to send these people your legacy irreplaceable family treasures and videos. Go to a local place you can get them back at least. This is a factory making McDonalds quality transfers that take forever and then the work is rushed. I would like to see this compnay shut down.
Had to resend tapes to get done again
Wanted b4 Christmas - just arrived
Added CD's to order - charged $10 - I requested to just add to order for N/C... to make up for receiving the origianl order w/ no USB Stick. Rep would not - charged my CC

Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with!
Answer: Hello, thank you for reaching out to us! Yes, the digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!

Hi, Lynette. Thank you for your feedback. We apologize for the delay in processing times. While our average is 6-8 weeks, unfortunately that average can fluctuate depending on the formats and number of orders received, as each order is processed in the order in which it arrived in our facility. We truly appreciate your patience as our team works through this peak season. We are doing everything we can to process every order as quickly as possible.
Our customer service team is available 7 days a week if there is ever anything we can help you with at questions@legacybox.com or by phone at 800-797-8210.
