Don't trust your heirloom memories to this Legacy Box. I sent film at end of February and after a flurry of standard emails describing supposed progress then nothing.
How many ways can I say 'A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE"?
I sent in 2 reel-to-reel tapes to be transferred to CDs. It took over 6 weeks! One CD was okay, the other sounded like they were dragging chains through it. I sent it back with the original CD and the reels to show the problem. I got back 4 CDs with a FAINT sound, basically nothing on them! And didn't even get my original CD that was half okay. The engineer must have been drunk - certainly didn't bother to test his work. Requested I get my money bank, SAVE YOURS! With all their advertising, they have expanded WAY too fast. Waste of my time.
I rediscovered four 8mm film canisters from the 40s to the 60s. Legacybox converted everything, understanding that I wanted every inch, even if the lighting wasn't good. They make me so happy and I can now share them with other family members.
I am answering this for my mother. She asked me to be the contact person because she wanted to surprise my dad with this for their 50th wedding anniversary in July. She couldn't wait to give it to him and he was thrilled. They started watching them right away. Recalling all those memories and seeing people who are no longer with us is what makes them so special. Thank you for the job you did. They aren't perfect because of some deterioration, but thank you for capturing their memories so well. Lori Supulski
Hi Lori, Thanks for trusting us with digitizing your precious memories. We understand just how important your family memories are and feel so honored that you placed your trust in us to handle such cherished items.
I sent Legacy Box over 300+ negatives of pictures my husband took while stationed in Vietnam during the war. He has held onto these pictures for over 55 years. He thought it was about time to have them transferred - we had CD's & a memory stick made. I was a bit nervous to send the only negatives of priceless pictures through the mail & trust that we would get them back. I am so glad I did. Legacy Box provided bar codes for each set of negatives I sent them so we were able to track their progress. Which gave me piece of mind that I knew where they were while not in my possession.
The look on my husband face while viewing these pictures was bitter-sweet. Not only did he take pictures of the base he was station at - he also took pictures of the Vietnamese friends he made and the children he had daily interactions with. I sure do wish there was a way for me to find out who is in some of the pictures.
If you are thinking about sending Legacy Box your precious memories, don't hesitate. DO IT! You wont be disappointed.
I ordered a Legacy Box on line. The charge of $159.99 went through PayPal. I never got an order confirmation. I never got a shipping confirmation. I called their customer service number. I held on their customer service line listening to their on hold redundant jingle for 45 minutes and it was torture. (Their estimated time was 9 minutes). I requested text 4 times: NOTHING. I emailed them: NOTHING. I sent an URGENT email one week later: NOTHING.
This is a total scam. Lucky for me PayPal will refund my money but please people AVOID THIS COMPANY!
MY ONLY Proof of Purchase is my PayPal charge. I never received anything from Legacy Box.
Hi, Terry. I am sorry that you have not been able to reach us. While the phones can be busy sometimes, we do go through every email. I don't know why you have not received a reply, but I definitely want to look into this for you. You can reply here with your order details and I can take care of the refund. Thank you for your feedback in this matter so that we can work to improve! Let me know if you need anything else.
Do NOT use Legacybox for your digitizing. I have placed call after call with them and I keep getting the same song and dance that they don't have staff and are short handed, Covid, etc. YET I keep getting emails and messages for more business and sales they are having. They should not advertise for more business if they can not manage the business they have. Buyer beware! Good marketing to pull you in. Beyond that - Fail. I requested my product back and was told they couldn't return since it is "so close to being processed! If you have 20 weeks + to wait for the return of your product, then this is the service for you. Not even sure I will see my product in 20 + weeks as I was told. I have no trust.
35mm slide digitization quality was disappointing. All pictures were cropped on all sides 5-10%: people near borders were partially amputated; some mountains lost their tops. The color quality was poor: greens were lacking some yellow and looked dull; some blues and greys tended toward purple; sky shades (e.g. Alpenglow) were washed out. Two slides were superimposed. The clarity (focus) was reduced. On the positive side: the turn-around was quick (1-2 weeks); all slides were returned in good condition; if you aren't concerned with quality and just need an image for memory, the images were adequate for memory recall.
I tried digitizing the same slides by projecting them on a 20x30 white board and taking photos with an iphone. The quality was better (but not great): no cropping; better color reproduction; somewhat better clarity in some cases.
Hi Don, Thank you for taking the time to provide our team with feedback. We are sorry for the disappointment in the quality you received. We process the media at a one-to-one conversion and if there were issues with your completed order we would be happy to look further into this! Please contact our customer service team at questions@legacybox.com and we would be happy to provide a solution!
Took longer to get done due to the pandemic and I'm okay with that. 17 of 20 tapes were transferred and I'm excited to have them and they are good quality considering age of them. Bummed they couldn't' transfer a few. Reason for 2 stars, they aren't IPad friendly. I didn't research the manner of how I would view them on my iPad close enough. I've had a lot of issues downloading them and viewing them. It's a bummer because I don't have a computer and their advice is to use my computer to download and view them. 4 star for the service they provide. 2 stars for way you view the videos once received.
I was given a box of VHS-C tapes to "see if I could get something from them." If you don't already know, VHS-C were analog videocamera tapes that required a special adapter to watch in your VCR. Having neither the adapter, nor a functional VCR, I sent them to Legacybox.
On the plus side, the videos are mostly clear and crisp, given they haven't been seen in 25 years and the camera operator was a rank amateur. I had no clue what the tapes were about and they were mostly vacation tapes or elementary school presentations.
My only minor complaint was I had no idea where they were in progress and returning the finished DVD's.
Sent in order in October ( I believe 10/31)
Have not received it yet (2/17/22)
Online it is supposed to be delivered tomorrow
Was hoping to have it at Christmas as the turn around time was said to be around 3-4 weeks.
Hope the quality is worth it
The 30 movies I sent (from 1938 through 1973) were converted to DVDs and digital uploads. The results were as good as the originals, and in some cases better because the speed was slowed a bit to make the images clearer. I have just sent in three more batches of old 8mm and Super8mm movies for conversion during the special half price sale. I originally used code RUSH (Limbaugh) for 40% discount. Great service!
I sent two 50 ft. 8mm films to Legacy Box in February 2022 along with about $50. These were 2 films that have great value in memories. Today is June 14,2022. I have received at least 50 emails from Legacy Box making incredible offers for more digitizing services. I have not received any services, no film no digitization. I have lost those 8mm films and $50. Legacy Box IS A SCAM! I intend to file a lawsuit against Legacy Box under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act to seek an INJUNCTION, treble damages, attorney's fees and court costs. My damages will include PUNITIVE DAMAGES for blatant FRAUD. A class action lawsuit is being considered. WHAT A SCAM. Those missing films have a value of $100,000 each, ie. $200,000 x 3 = $600,000. We will see what a jury will determines the value. I have been promised on 2 occasions that Legacy Box "Customer Service" would contact me. Another LIE. DJ F *******@elpasolaw.com
Hi, David. Thank you for your feedback. I have found an order in our system that matches your contact information, and your film reels are still safe in our facility. I am sorry that our current turnaround time is a bit longer-than-average. I am going to send a status update to the email address on file on this order. Please let me know if you need anything else.
I researched sites that provided conversion services and decided to give Legacybox a try. I sent 3 200 foot reels for conversion to thumb drive. The published 5-6 week turnaround time became 12 weeks. The 3 files on the thumb drive were as good as I expected for 61 year old film of early marriage years and first son. The price was reasonable for what I received but I could have saved $$ but just getting the download file and editing that to my own thumb drive. It looks like they always have a "special" of x % off of list.
Early on in the wait process I replied to one of their status emails suggesting that they may want to alter their emails to an easier to read format/font. Their reply, YOU COULD ALWAYS ALTER IT YOURSELF, (my caps) did not seem to be a very customer friendly reply.
I still have another 3-4 reels to be converted as well as about 150 slides. I might try one of the other sites just to get a comparison of service. OVERALL SATISFIED!
Hi, Robert.
Thank you so much for the feedback. We very much appreciate your assessment of our service. I apologize about the long turnaround times right now. This is something that we working diligently to correct. I am very interested to hear your thoughts on our emails, and to review the response that you were given. Please reach out to us at any time to look into this for you.

I still cant complain about the results becasue I have not got antyghing yet. It has been almost four months now and the tracking feature on their webiste says that my order is on queue. Really? $ months now and it is on Queue? Wow... I couldve done it faster at home. I just thought my time was more precious but now I am at risk of losing 30 years of memories.
From the day I ordered and paid it took them 20 days just to get it on their list of items recieved. Four months later I am still waiting.
Hi, Wilfredo. I'm sorry that your order is taking longer than expected and understand the frustration this would create for you. Thumbs way down for Legacybox. Since I see that they are advertising again, thought I should share my story of doing business with them back in 2016. I see from recent reviews that their way of doing business has not changed. I sorted, catalogued and packed family film reels and VCR tapes ranging from the 1940's to 2015 in boxes provided by Legacybox (see below) back in 2016. It took a long time but finally received back 3 dvds individually labeled Nelson Family Film, Family Film 1, Family Film 2. No chronological information. My reels, tapes and catalogue data were returned in total disarray (see below). Imagine my surprise at also receiving 22 DVDs that were not mine. I contacted the company. They were not interested in the DVDs received by mistake. I've kept them for the last 7 years in hopes they could somehow be reunited with their proper owners. They were labeled. Some of the names are Nathan, Tanner, Winston, Kevin, Bryan. If these could be your DVDs, please reply to this review and tell me how to contact you. I had more film reels and VCR tapes to be converted to DVD but would never do business with Legacybox again. Instead, I found a local business that does the same thing and they label each DVD and case with pictures plus dates. (see below). They are friendly and professional. I got my DVDs in 1 week at a fraction of the cost of Legacybox.I highly recommend Transfer Me to DVD in Toledo, Ohio. Check your local area. There may be someone nearby that will do the job better and cheaper. If not, Transfer Me to DVD takes mail-in orders.too.
I sent in 2 packages (25 photos each) with the barcodes provided. I was under the impression that 2 separate bags- 2 bar codes- paying for 2 items- meant 2 separate DVDs. Wrong, I was informed that they would be all going on 1 DVD because they like to "consolidate all your photos on as little disc as possible".( we pay for the disc) I would have gladly paid for another disc but I wasn't given that option. I asked to have the photos sent back and a refund -was told the service rep. I was dealing with was out of the office. A couple days later she told me "too late your order is already on it's way". She also told me if I wanted to put some on a 2nd disc I could do that myself. So I paid $ 54.00 to have them scan some photos.
Hi Joseph, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I apologize that separating the photos onto separate discs is not a service that we offer. We always strive to be as clear and upfront as possible regarding the services that we offer but your review has shown us that we can do better! When you reached out regarding the separate discs your order was already well underway in processing and once it is packed for shipping it is unfortunately too late to cancel and pull the order as the work had already been completed. As advertised on our website, if you would like to be able to easily move the files and separate them into separate groups, we recommend order the thumb drive or digital download option. The discs you received back are free from any copyrights so while it is unfortunately not something that we can accommodate, you are welcome to split the files onto separate discs or bring the discs to somewhere like Staples to have this done for you.
Sent our 20 tapes in March and just got them back this August. We never knew where things were at.
We did get what we wanted, just took way too long.
Sent in 20 VHS, all in perfect condition for playback, no lines, sharp. The digital copies I got back were 10 ok. 4 blank - nothing on them and they never took out the cases ( you can tell, all the others were in the wrong cases). 6 were just horrible copies, nothing like the sharp video they were sent, copied on dirty heads it looked like and unknown why all the jumping screens, just so bad! The originals have none of that. So After they make me go through all kinds of proof that took hours to create and send that they messed up, I send back 10 of them for re-doing.
During this time, I ask for my expedited shipping back since now it is taking twice as long, no money back. I asked them to please make sure before you return the re-do that you look at it to be sure that there are no issues. Of course they will. They also decided to send me an email about some media they are unable to process which upon more wasted time, was just a mistake. I get these copies back, 10 blurry. The 6 that were re-dos are exactly what was sent before only blurry this time like they just copied the digital files.
I would not give these incompetent people another chance they are extremely bad at what they do and they just do not care at all to get it right. I have asked for a 10 tape refund, but since they didn't want to refund $20 for their own incompetence, I doubt they will provide anything at all. Steer clear of these people, don't believe the commercials!
They managed to digitize everything I sent them, including VHS tapes from the mid-1990s that had a decent amount of wear and tear. The movies look great and I am relieved that I can access these memories easily.
Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with!
Answer: Hello, thank you for reaching out to us! Yes, the digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
