My brothers and I wanted to digitize our father's 16 mm films and Legacy made it easy to do. From the first receipt of the box, instruction manual, stickers to put on each piece of film to be digitized, sending it off in the mail to the receipt of the digitized videos; everything was easy to do.
Downloaded from a google drive, the digital files were there and easy to download.
Sounds is great for the ones that transfer well, as far as the qualitative of the video is excellent. Some of the video, the sound stutters, but the videotapes are 15 years old.
The photos, VHS tapes and cassettes that I could view first turned out great and are wonderfully preserved now for us to enjoy. However, I sent some labeled videos for my husband that I wasn't able to view first (Don't have a VHS player, came from his parents) that were nothing more than taped soap operas. I wish they would contact you first to warn/ask you if you want these materials recorded digitally, to make sure you didn't make a mistake.
Hello Susanna! Thank you so much for the kind word and constructive feedback! We are so happy you are enjoying your memories again!
I have reviewed 6 DVDs (there are 23 more I have not viewed), one of the ones I did review had nothing on it but static, the other 5 I have reviewed all have tracking lines through most of the videos. When the tapes were viewed on a player, the tracking could be cleared on a player, obviously no way to do it on a DVD... wondering if your technicians watched the recording, or if they just plugged it in a left the room.
Where there aren't tracking lines, the videos are pixel lated.
I spent almost $200 for this package, and it isn't what I expected.
Legacybox and its staff have been most helpful to me in my first experience with digitalizing numerous almost antique 8mm family films that my father bequeathed to me before his death and asked that I seek to preserve them for the rest of my family. Considering the nature of these films and their age, Legacybox performed a first class job on coverting them. I and my children will be able to view myself and my sister as we grew up in the fifties and early sixties. Thank you!
I entrusted Legacybox with digitizing my good quality MiniDV tapes. They came back after a while, and the quality is appalling. I suspect they do not use the Firewire transfer, but instead a cheap RCA connector. Not only that, one of my tapes came back with that red sticker, and the protective flip cover completely in pieces, INSIDE the box. The original sticker with the number was also damaged, and the case was missing. I can only assume that they had a careless employee destroy the tape. The frustrating part however is that they keep claiming that they cannot digitize it, yet when I put the tape in my still functional 25 year old Panasonic DV-Camcorder, it plays back just fine.
I took them up on a 20 item deal. I sent them a combination of 8mm video tapes. All were in excellent condition. It ended up costing around $500. I opted for the digital downloads. I started watching them as they became available. I'm shocked at how bad they look. Some are unwatchable. A lot of them have have just blue screen. I know a lot about video and it appears to me they just put the tapes in the machines and just hit play. They paid no attention to them as they played. They didn't bother to adjust the tracking on any of them. I consider my efforts a waste of time and my money wasted. My efforts to get them to fix this have gone unanswered. I got my tapes back and I have no way to check their condition since those camcorders of mine are long gone. My advice - don't use LegacyBox!
Hi Andrew. Our process is to provide a one-to-one transfer of each of your items as they play on our equipment. Since we do not offer any editing or enhancement services, any quality issues that exist on the original item will be present in the digital files. We’d like to make sure that we achieved a one-to-one transfer of your tapes, so it would be great if you could reach out to our team to further discuss your order.

I sent Legacy Box 56 old VHS, VHS-C, and 8MM tapes to turn into viewable files... THANK YOU! My tapes ranged from our wedding in 1989 through 2005 (30 years & seven children later). This was a wonderful gift from my husband. Only wish is that we'd done this sooner!
Thank you so much, Tamara! We are happy that we could give you the opportunity to re live these precious memories!
What can I say other than my Legacybox experience was as advertised. Everything happened just as they said it woulkd - from the sending of the tapes, notifications of every step in the process, and the return of the items and the downloads and DVDs. Legacybox is the real deal.!

Legacy box did a great job with our videos. The process was faster than anticipated and the download process couldn't have been easier. They also did a great job of communicating every step of the way. Well done Legacy Box!
Hi, Greg! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am so happy to hear that you found the process easy, and that you enjoyed your movies! Please let us know if you need anything else!

When my dad retired he was given several VHS tapes of speeches he'd given during his career and testimony in DC regarding nuclear power. At some point these were given to me, but I didn't have a VHS machine. Since my dad is deceased and he was a well known expert in his field, I thought these tapes would be important and interesting for our family and for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. I had 10 tapes transferred to digital format and the process was seamless and the quality outstanding. I highly recommend Legacybox for converting VHS tapes to digital format.
Elizabeth! THANK YOU! So glad we could digitize your VHS Tapes and provide you with a product that will last forever!
Legacybox was able to recover a 16mm movie from 1946 that was in a tornado in 1983. The film had been soaked by the storm, so the film was stuck together. I had little expectation of being able to ever watch this movie from my childhood again. I was about four years old when this movie was taken, and the last time I saw it was when I was about eleven (1954). It is hard to describe the excitement I had when I got an email with a link to a digital copy of the entire film. A few days later I received the film and a DVD as well. I have shared the link with relatives and told many people about the outstanding service Legacybox provided.
This was my first experience with Legacy Box. I was introduced to it listening to Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. I have 8mm fiilm that my father shot when my brother Gary and me when we were around 4 for Gary and 8 for me. These films have been in a drawer for almost seventy (70) years. No idea what was on them. Today I received my "link" to download for first reels. Fabulous! I could not be happier. My customer service representative DARBY was with me every step of the way. I have a whole box of 8mm as well as Super 8 that I shot when my oldest daughter was born in 1970. I will be dealing with Legacy Box for years to come. The best investment I could make to insure my children, grand children and on and on can connect with their "roots!"
I ordered videos and about 100 pictures. Video's came through good on DVD's... pictures did not come through at all! They sent the disk, but nothing was on it. So I had to send all the pictures back to do again (which they sent me a UPS label for, so at least just a added hassle). Unfortunately about 1/3rd of the pictures scanned with a multitude of scratches through the picture. Scratches were not on originals. So an A- on the videos, a solid F on the pictures.
Hi Douglas, we hate to hear about your experience with us. We'd love to make it right for you if you could reach out to us at questions@legacybox.com that would be wonderful! You can request our Supervisor, Jessica.
My niece bought a Legacy box for me to get our old home movies put on DVD. I sent them in and everything seemed fine until I tried to play the DVD. It went about 30 seconds and then stopped. I called the company and after trying to get through for a couple of days, I finally reached them. They had me send the box back and they redid it. This time when I played the DVD, it was printed in reverse. The writing on the buildings in the film was backwards so I couldn't even read where they were taken. They were also poorly edited. I could have done better. I have been trying to get in touch with them for 3 days now, but all I get on the phone is "Due to high volume...". I want to get these done right but I am not sure if I really want to send them back again.
We were impressed with the commercials on Rush Limbaugh and placed an order for a special for $50. They sent the order to Groupon and they requested another $20 for the order. We contacted Legacy Box and said we were dealing with them and not Groupon and they said they needed the Groupon reference number which we did not have. We could not get a Groupon #. We finally got the $50 refund to our account and today they charged us again and refused to refund the $50. We called Legacy Box to complain and they would not even listen to our concern. We just lost our $50 and will take our tapes somewhere else.
I have used the service twice with great success. I now have my 35mm slides in a digital format and my loose printed photographs in a digital format. I also sent in 23 reels of 8mm film from the late 1940's to 1970's that are digitized and I can watch on the computer or the television. Legacy Box is a fantastic way to convert and bring old memories alive again.
Hey Rick! Thank you for allowing us to digitize your slides and reels! It was an honor and we hope you have memories that will last a lifetime!
They promise delivery in 6 to 8 weeks once they receive the order. They received my order on March 3rd. It is now 13 weeks out, and it is still in the processing stage. They advised could be another 4 to 6 weeks!
BUYER BEWARE - Their Facebook page is filled with complaints just like mine.
Hi, Jim. Thank you for reaching out. We apologize for the delay in processing times. While our average is 6-8 weeks, unfortunately that average can fluctuate depending on the formats and number of orders received, as each order is processed in the order in which it arrives. We truly appreciate your patience as our team works through this peak season.

Apparently Tosha from Legacy Box reads Site Jabber's reviews and reached out to me to resolve the Groupon issue. After I sent her the pictures of my "proof" she honored the original order plus threw in a bonus add on. So at this point I'm pleased with the resolution and will update the review once I see how the final Legacy Box product turns out.
I bought a Groupon for Legacy Box that "Never Expires". $129.99 for a $500 value Closet Box Media Digitizing Kit. A couple years later I went to use it and the code was not accepted online. When I called Customer Service they were supposed to look into it and respond but didn't. When I called again the agent informed me that my Groupon "expired" but I could use the value I paid $129.99 against the $500 list price. So now they wanted another $370.01 for the Groupon deal they should have honored. I sent Groupon all the communication and picture images of the "never expires" deal & Legacy Box refused to respond. I ended up just having the origional $129.99 cost credited by Groupon. Legacy Box ended up being an unethical company with the worst customer service I've experienced.
We were excited to have our family films all together. It took four months, not in sequence, lots of bad film added and lighting was extremely dark. Not worth the money.

Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with!
Answer: Hello, thank you for reaching out to us! Yes, the digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well.
