We did this as a gift and it was a big hit. We've had multiple people ask where we got the USB made and we said Legacy Box! It was a super easy process. It took a bit longer to ship due to the holidays but it wasn't a big deal. We definitely plan to use again.
I saw information about Legacy Box on social media and checked it out. They were running a special and I thought I would start with converting VHS since I no longer have a VHS. Then I realized I inherited reel to reel footage from family members. Due to the cost to convert, I started with 6 reels and was impressed. It unlocked so many family stories and traditions we did not know about and send the files to family as a gift. The entire process was only a few weeks and updates were frequent. Due to the reel to reel age, we were unable to capture audio, but the video was spectacular. The curators use the same techniques to digitize video in Hollywood.
Thanks, Cassie! We shared this feedback with our team. Thank for allowing us to provide this service to you!
It's disheartening to convey that we are extremely disappointed- the quality was dark and grainy for all the VHS and 8mm video cassettes. The output quality on our VHS machine and camera to TV are far clearer that what was converted. I wish I would have ordered a smaller kit to review the quality of work prior to purchasing a larger conversion kit.
Extremely disappointed!
Hi Elaine, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. If you could please reach out to our customer service team at questions@legacybox.com with your order number, we would be happy to look into this for you to come to a satisfactory resolution! We always strive for the best outcome possible, but we are whole heartedly committing to getting it right for you if there were any issues. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
After more than thirty years of storage I finally made the move to have a set of 20 8mm tapes digitized. Legacybox made the entire process an easy one-from packing & shipping the videos, providing a timeline for completion and providing options for the final product (DVD, flash drive or online). I am very pleased with the final digitized MP4's and have been sharing out snippets with family members and bringing smiles to my three daughters as they see themselves as they were 30 years ago. I am totally satisfied with my Legacybox experience,
The Worst Dont Do it! I payed extra to get all the tapes converted for Christmas and started in Ocotber, I was able to give this gift as a Valentines day gift. Also they give NO support after spending almot 1000. $$$$ they wont even respond to an email in a timly way or help me at all. Dont waste you time or money here.
I was extremely pleased with the outcome of the films. These were family films that were over 40 years old. I sent in the films thinking I wouldn't have any results, but was very pleased that all ten reels came out. I would definitely use them again.
I'm looking at videos I haven't looked at in 20+ years. Very nostalgic and completely loving it. I have the thumb nail which makes it easy to view as I'm sitting at my computer. I'm in the process of cataloging what I had video taped years ago. Loving it!
Hi Patty! We are LOVING that you are so happy with the final product! We are ecstatic to help you digitize your precious memories!
After starting a conversion process of Super8 and 8MM, I discovered 16MM film, in which I could not convert myself. I never used LegacyBox for film conversion (or any other server). I sent it my 16MM reels being nervous, since I only have 1 copy of the films. I paid for Rush service before Thanksgiving, not expecting the conversion to be finished quickly. I received converted films back within 2 weeks along with my reels. Service and tracking was great. Highly recommend service.
The wait was 4 months and I wasn't sure if I would ever get anything back. I eventually did and was impressed by the good quality because not everyone got orders with good quality.
Regardless, I won't be using them again because of the long wait.
The wait was horrible and this company needs to improve in that department. The quality is good, but each video was 2 hours long. The first 10/20/30 minutes (however long was recorded) was the video itself, and the last however long was remaining was a snowy screen or a blue screen.
I think all the video was shown, but that worried me. I hope I got the full videos.
Among the movies that LegacyBox has digitized for me and my children and grandchildren was a home movie from the 1930s that was bright and clear. It showed my great-grandmother, born at the beginning of the Civil War, smiling, walking and waving. What a treasure! What a legacy!
I hesitated to have my old VHS, 8mm and slides preserved because of the price tag! Now I wish I'd prioritized it sooner! Not only are my family memories preserved beautifully, they were also carefully tracked and monitored throughout the process so I was able to relax and trust the process.
Hi Allison! Thank you for the kind comments! We are SO happy that we could help you transfer your precious memories and appreciate the wonderful feedback!
I sent it my 38 year old wedding Videos.
It took less the 4 weeks from when I requested a Legacy box until i received my package with 2 CDs and a thumb drive.
Great Service, Great Follow Up and Great quality...
I will be sending in many more old videos
Thanks
Sonny L.
There were parts in the DVDs that I thought they could have cleaned them up a bit more. I enjoyed seeing people I never thought I would see again. They were so quick that I was able to send them to my daughter in time for Christmas.
I have never had such wonderful customer service in my life! I would highly recommend Legacy Box. I was told I would have a turn around time of 6-8 weeks, and due to it being Christmas time and Covid, I expected it to be closer to 8. I was SHOCKED when my entire box was processed and sent back to me within 4 weeks. Every time I asked for an update, they were very prompt, kind, and helpful. They even sent me a prorated refund with no hassle when they had a sale a week after I purchased my box. My videos all turned out perfectly, and it's truly the been such a delight going back and watching them all. This was a wonderful Christmas gift to my whole family, and I feel my money was very well spent. I will definitely be recommending Legacy Box!
It has been almost 3 months since I sent in precious videos. I called 3 weeks ago and they made up excuses about turnaround being affected by COVID. But, to be clear, they had it for weeks before COVID impacted business. 3 weeks ago they said 10 weeks is normal. Really? Then they said it was the virus. Not true either. Then they said it would ship on Monday (3 weeks ago). Really? They do not have their act together and I am beginning to think they lost my valuables and just won't admit it. I'm talking 6 videotapes that they have not been able to digitize in 3 months. I get an email every week saying they are working on it, uploading it, getting ready to ship or whatever. 6 videotapes? If it takes that long to process 6 tapes they have been "uploading" for over 2 months, I hope they have a customer base of no more than one customer or they will never see their belongings. Terrible.
P.S. - I would add photos but they have my stuff so I can't add any photos!
Legacy did an amazing job digitalizing all my reels and slides. I had no idea what was on them but was glad I had them converted. Legacy did everything they promised. I sent my media in and had it all converted. They then returned my media. I would definitely do this again.
I placed an order in June 22, still not received. When calling customer service, they say it will be another 6 weeks. Read the fine print, that says it takes 10/12 weeks or pay a serious upcharge to receive in 10 days. They are masters at uncharges. Can't speak to the quaility of the product yet, since it will be another month and half to receive it back.
I was well informed on the onset of this service, but when the time for delivery came, I didn't know what to do. LegacyBox needs to prescribe the steps one should follow upon the successful conversion of thier materials. For instance, I recieved a notice that my package was on its way. I recieved a box of my tapes, but nothing telling me to go to a weblink to view the media in the cloud. I had to figure that out. This could be an improvement. As for quality, they did the best they could with some of my VHS tapes, but they were pretty old. Bottom Line: Quality is fine. Improve communication of steps.
Paid $278 for their 20 item box. Didn't receive an email for instructions. Tried to contact them & no response to email. Called the number & could not get a hold of them! Grrrr! I decided this was off to a bad start so I emailed them to cancel my order & provide a refund. They gave me a runaround on that. Took 3 weeks to get $206 back & I was furious! Contacted them as to why I was shorted $75 & they said it was a restocking fee! THEY ARE HORRIBLE! DON'T USE LEGACY BOX!
I had about 17 VHS tapes of home movies that I no longer could watch as I no longer have a tape player and really had no desire to purchase a new one just to watch home movies. Also, I was afraid they would continue to deteriorate until they would be gone forever. I had them transferred to DVD and they are wonderful. Some do have some bad spots but Legacybox did such a wonderful job I just cannot thank them enough.
Hi Cheryl, Thanks for trusting us with digitizing your precious memories. We understand just how important your family memories are and feel so honored that you placed your trust in us to handle such cherished items.
Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with!

Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well.
