I had read great reviews about Legacy Box, so I decided to try it out. I sent out old VHS tapes and audio cassette tapes to be converted to digital. I had sent these out before through an outside company that Walgreens uses. The quality wasn't that great, so I wanted to see if Legacy Box could do a better job. The videos were terrible! They are so blurry and poor quality. The ones that I got from Walgreens look better than the ones that Legacy Box did. It also took a few months to get everything back. One of my mini video cassettes (from an old video camera) was not able to be converted at all. It wasn't even as old as the other ones that I sent to them. I was very disappointed. It's not cheap either. I don't think that I would recommend Legacy Box.
Please don't second guess if you want to do this. You will not be disappointed. Incredibly easy process. Fast turn around. We have ooooed and awwed and laughed and cried over and over again. Thanks for the memories Legacybox! We'll be back!
My old 8MM tapes had been forgotten in our basement for many, many years - probably over 25 years. I heard about Legacy Box on FB and decided, "why not". I sent tapes in the pre-packed box that was sent to me when I registered. It took a while, which I expected, but OH what an amazing turn out when I finally received my USB drive. The 8MM turned out to be as far back as 1950, maybe older, my Grandparents Italian basement parties, my Dad going into the Marines, my parents getting married, and Christmas's from my baby years! I was crying after watching this amazing footage. I can't wait to share with my Mom, since she hasn't seen her own Wedding footage from 1963. Thank you Legacy Box!
Hi Lori, AWESOME that we were able to preserve your mom's special magical day! I know she'll love reliving that and how beautiful she looked! We are honored to have done this for you!
I kept putting this off and once I used Legacybox I don't know why I waited. I had a stack of hi8 tapes gathering dust. I sent them off and in no time I was sent the digital downloads. What a delight to relive all those wonderful memories.
I didnt expect them to edit my stuff but I also Didn't expect them to give me a two hour dead file for 11 minutes of recording. It took over three months for my order to be transferred and they don't do anything but digitize it. Over half my order was too low quality to digitize (not their fault) but they didn't say anything until it was too late. Customer service is as bad as any company I've experienced period. Stay away!
Hi Janis,
Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We always strive to be as clear and upfront as possible regarding the services that we offer but your review has shown us that we can do better! Our customer service team is available 7 days a week if there is ever anything we can help you with at questions@legacybox.com or by phone at 800-797-8210.
It took 16 weeks to get my Legacyboxes. I sent in 6 VHS tapes. I got 12 CDs back. 4 were identical copies of 1/2 of one tape and 3 were identical copies of a second tape. All had the audio off track. The other 5 were blank and scrambled. What a waste of money. I will have to get all of the tapes redone somewhere else. Very disappointed.
Hi Penney. We apologize for the delay in processing times and that your return order was not up to the quality standards we strive for. It looks like you have been in contact with our customer service team to relay these issues. We are happy to see that you received support from our team and would love for you to reach back out if you have any further questions or concerns about your order.
Our company has 100s of VHS tapes that need digitizing. We have software and old VCRs with which we tried transferring the tapes ourselves. Trying to do it ourselves was time consuming and labor intensive. Who has time to adjust tracking and take each individual VHS tape and transfer it? Legacybox! Not us! The value and quality of their work made it an easy choice, especially the 2nd time around!
I had LegacyBox convert some 50+ year old film to a USB drive. These movies had not been kept in pristine conditionl I was thankful to get what they were able to retrieve off of the movies. They weren't great quality, but, considering what they had to work with, I was thankful to get anything off of them. Below is a photo of my husband that I got off the films. This was taken 56 years ago!
It's as easy as putting the stuff in a box. All of our 16mm or whatever the size of that old film is from the 60's and 70's with no sound showing us in pigtails and crawling in the dirt because our parents weren't scared of the world yet. AND the recent digital video tapes that were better than the vhs-c tapes (which we had millions of) and the regular vhs gargantuan cassettes. Dump it all in and it comes back on a thumb/flash drive and you can share/YouTube and enjoy your old memories with out need for anything other than a computer. Legacy box was fast and high quality. Great work!
Hello Alexander! Thank you so, so much for the glowing review! We are so excited that you chose us to transfer those wonderful memories and that you were happy with the product and services! We hope we can possibly help you again in the future!
My wife had some old 8mm reels form when she was a little girl and I wanted to surprise her by having them converted over into a DVD. I had seen Legacy add on Facebook so I gave them a call. They worked well with me explaining all options which were available and pricing. It took a couple of weeks to get my package but when it arrived it was easy to follow instruction that they had enclosed. The reels were shipped back promptly and emails from legacy advised me on every steep taken. Refreshing to do business and get what you were promised. Thank you legacy. I'm sure the wife will be thrilled on Christmas day. Sincery. Ed Scott... Ashland Ky...
We sent in reel to reel tapes 50 years old not expecting much and if anything scratchy and staticky. We got just the opposite back. I think the results were clearer than what was actually recorded. We couldn't be more pleased with the result and the turn around was very fast. They claim 4 to 8 weeks but we got it back within 2 weeks. My 89 year old mother-in-law heard her late husband singing and playing the guitar the first time since his death. Her eyes shined! I recommend this company to anyone with memories to restore from tape.
My experience with Legacy Box was beyond bad. Their costumer service is terrible. The method of delivery and notification of delivery of material was botched repeatedly. I would never use this service again.
I had several VHS tapes that I wanted to convert. I sent 10 to Leagacybox. They were only able to convert 1. I had to prompt them to refund my money since I paid for 10 and only received 1 back digitized. They are not clear that by placing an order, you sign up for a subscription. Trying to unsubscribe is a difficult process.
I gave them 2 stars since my money was refunded but I will not use them again for any of my digital conversion needs.
I carefully used supplied labels as I placed 10 VHS tapes in shipping box (under the supervision of my wife).
Got back 9 VHS tapes. DVD labeled 1 thru 10 minus #8. They insist only 9 VHS submitted. I asked If not 10 VHS why not contact me. They say it's not part of the process. They emailed me to tell me one VHS was poor quality why not suppose shortage of VHS? Don't recommend this company.
Hi Paul, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I know you have already been in touch with our customer service team but I wanted to personally address your concerns. I've thoroughly looked through the details of your order and I wanted to clarify the situation at hand. We have reviewed the check in process of your order and have triple confirmed that only 9 VHS tapes were sent in to us. Your order arrived in the Legacybox with large white packing peanuts and VHS tapes wrapped in clear bubble wrap. All reviews confirm that there were only 9 tapes sent in to us. Upon reviewing the barcodes used for your tapes, number 8 specifically was omitted. To provide context on why you were not emailed is because customers don't always use the full quantity of their order and simply reach out to us for a refund or a credit for the unused items. Since we did not receive or process barcode number 8, I have gone ahead and issued a refund for that unused item, which you should receive email verification of momentarily. I do apologize for any confusion along the process of your order. Please reach back out to our customer service team if there is anything else that we can help you with.
We have had a lot of different media digitized by LegacyBox - 8mm film from as far back as the 1950s; VCR and audio tapes dating to the 1970s. I was a bit sceptical about being able to transfer them to digital but LegacyBox accomplished it successfully. It was wonderful to be able to show our children those films of their grandparents and parents from those years. And, it was fun to hear performances that I conducted - just great memories. LegacyBox has done well by us - turn around time is good, our digitized results have been excellent and I think that they are priced well. I highly recommend them. Larry Parsons
Hi Larry! Thank you SO much for your wonderful review! It's an honor to do this, and we LOVE hearing feedback like this. If you need anything, let us know!
I had heard about Legacy Box on the radio and Everytime the commercial came on I received this promoting to send my tapes in. Them I came across a Groupon with a discount, and I jumped on it! I sent 20 videos to have them copied into MP4 format. My old camera would not work to view the film and I wasn't sure how they would turn out. I was truly amazed at the quality of the videos. They turned out perfect! They are so fun to watch again.
The company was great to work with and I got them back sooner than I was expecting. Safe and secure. They were great to send emails and keep me informed of the progress and mailings of my videos. I would highly recommend them to you.
Now I want to find some software to edit the tapes into small segments as they have multiple events that I would like to Separate.
Hi, Patti! Thank you so much for the amazing feedback. We are so gracious to be able to help you view your old videos! For editing videos, I would recommend Openshot.org!
1st set of slides were perfect - full picture and sharp -- second set of slides came back with a black border around them & not as sharp -- terrible, not a full picture -- you can't take this and go to shutterfly with them to get prints made because they will come out with a black border -- I called and was told to re-send them back in and they would fix - received my 2nd set back and they "still" came back with a black border on them causing the pictures to be smaller & they are not as sharp as my 1st set - called Legacybox and the lady told me that is the way they do it now even though it looks horrible and makes the pictures un-printable --- shame on Legacybox -- profits before quality
I ordered the box to have some vhs and camcorder tapes put on a cd for my gramma and grandpas memorial at the end of September. 1 cd was 44 sec of what sounded like a commercial with no video, 2 more cds had little to no sound and the picture was so dark in another that you couldn't even make out the people and no sound on it to distinguish what was going on. Very disappointed that there is no quality checking. I wish after waiting almost a month I could have been told that the quality of what I would receive was very poor. I will not use this company again.
Hi Jessica, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We would be happy to look into this for you! Please reach out to our Customer Support team at questions@legacybox.com or 800-797-8210 and provide us with your order number.
My experience was wonderful. Couldn't have been easier. The entire process took less than 3 weeks. 3 VHS tapes converted to 3 DVDs. Amazing to see old 8mm family memories. Brought tears to my eyes to see parents and other family who have been gone for so long.
Highly recommend. Great value.
Thanks for your feedback! We are so happy to hear that you had such a seamless experience with us. We aim to deliver an effortless process to take the worry out of preserving your precious memories! We hope you enjoy sharing those memories with your family for years to come.
Found some old 16mm films from 50 years ago... sent them in hoping that at least some of them could be saved. Legacybox did a wonderful job. So many memories were preserved and I am so thankful. Some of the films were so degraded that they could not be saved. Sent in 10 rolls and only received 3 CD's but I am grateful for what they could save and record for me... They also sent me emails to let me know how they were progressing.
Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with!
Answer: Hello, thank you for reaching out to us! Yes, the digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well. Please reach out to our customer service team directly at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with for a more prompt response time!
