I sent them three tapes in early December and they didn't get back to me until the middle of March. THREE months! And when they did, only two of the tapes were digitized. I have no idea what happened to the other one (which was the most important one) and I am trying to get to the bottom of it now. I hope they didn't lose it. Definitely a waste of money and it took way too long. I recommend using some other provider for this service.
We have started using Legacybox to convert our piles of family video and Super8 films to a digital format. It took some time to complete the first submission, but we were continually informed of the progress of our order. Once the digital orders were completed and made available, we were incredibly happy with the result. After sharing the footage with our family, which had not been seen for years, we were all thrilled. Especially our youngest (adult) Child who had only seen his (deceased) Grandfather in still shots. To re-live all the events on film with movement and sound was a true gift! We have started other orders.
I purchased this from Groupon. I am so happy I did. My father passed away 2 years ago and he loved to sing and could of been a professional. He made an audio tape for me when I got married I transferred to a cd. This company made my feel so at ease sending this tape into them. They communicated each step of the process and delivery. I was so happy to get my box back. The company brought back my fathers voice to me. I am forever thankful and was the best purchase I ever made. Thank you LegacyBox for keeping the memories alive!
I was referred to LegacyBox by a family member and proceeded with some trepidation. When you are sending off some very sentimental images of you and your family to someone you don't know but only have their "word for it" that they will protect the images and do what they say they'll do, it is a bit nerve wracking. However, my fears were never realized. LegacyBox did exactly what they said they would do, they stayed in communication as to the progress of the process, and the end product was as expected!
I had a great experience with legacy box. They updated me through every step they were doing. My 8mm reels were over 50 years old so it was great to see people who have passed and my children got to see their parents as teenagers.
I sent in 40 mini tapes in October 2023 and I am still waiting and it's March 2024. Charlie Kirk forgot to mention a 25-week turnaround time. I still don't have the digitized product... scared!
So happy I chose Legacy Box to put my 8mm tapes and VHS tapes onto CDs. They did a fantastic job! The whole process was easy. They kept you updated on the progress of your order. My orders came back fast! I had a great experience with Legacy Box and I am enjoying all my memories I haven't seen in 30 years! I absolutely recommend them!
I paid and sent 2 VHS tapes on 11-30-2021 to have copied to thumb drive. One tape is of my dog videoed on 6-1990. I lost her on 12-1-1990 and is the only video of her that exists. I have gotten many emails saying they are working on my order and this and that and have no clue if the tapes are still viewable. I feel the time is more than long enough to change 2 VHS tapes over. I even got a company on YOUTUBE who said their turnaround is 7-10 days. UPDATE. After post this review I got a response from the company and after almost 4 months of waiting they gave me a refund and never got the product from them I ordered.
I had some many slides taken by my father in the 1950's and 60's. They sat in a box for so many years. I had the best of them put on discs and can now share them with family and enjoy them whenever I want. The process was very secure and very easy. It was also reasonably priced. Legacy box communicated every step of the way. I highly recommend them
Hi Mary, Thanks for trusting us with digitizing your precious memories. We understand just how important your family memories are and feel so honored that you placed your trust in us to handle such cherished items.
After watching my digitized VHS tapes I was very disappointed. The quality was very poor. The finished product viewed like some kind of high school project. For the amount of money I spent and the time that I waited I expected a professional product. I can do a better job myself or better yet a will hire a high school student! Wasted money!
Hi Scott, Thank you for sharing your feedback with us! We do strive to make your experience as positive and easy as possible, so we do wholeheartedly apologize that this was not the case with you. Please reach out to us at Questions@Legacybox.com with your order number and we'd be happy to look into this for you.
This site is fantastic, I sent in about 10 reels from the 60s and 70s and had them digitized with legacy box. They were quick and professional, the entire process was very easy. The quality of the videos sent back was amazing and truly priceless to be able to view the videos again. I would recommend this site for sure!
I found the ordering of your service very easy, but you charge by the reel and not the footage of tape. If I have a 3 inch reel, it is cheaper for me to go through someone else. Also, I sent some reels of film to another company and was happy that they sent the DVD's to me in a hard case with pictures of the different segments on the cover. It made for a very nice gift for my family. The turn around time was about the same as the other company, which was 3 weeks.
I had several 8mm movies that I wanted to convert. I didn't have a projector to see them on any more. Two were very old. I got them from my fathers estate and didn't know what was on them. WOW was I surprised. They were taken in 1940 and 1943. The quality wasn't very good after all these years but LegacyBox did a great job of converting them. I would have given them five stars except for the cost.
Wow! That is great to hear, Ronald! We are glad that you chose us to convert these 8mm movies for you!
When I sent in and paid the fees for Digitalizing Super 8 tapes, I was under the
Impression that I would be receiving them back with content placed on Thumb Drive.
Just got an email they were available on my email and 2 days later the original tapes
Were returned USPS. Very disappointed.
I had used Legacy last winter and received my copies on Thumb Drive. Not this time as
Was requested. I paid over $55.00 just to look at them on computer. Not good.
Hi James, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I do apologize for any confusion regarding your order. If you placed your order for a digital download, unfortunately our team would have no way of knowing that you wanted a thumb drive instead or in addition to the digital download. Your order confirmation email, as well as the email you received when your order arrived and passed through receiving should also confirm what you purchased and what you would be receiving back The good news is that the files on your digital download exactly replicate what you would have received on a thumb drive if one was ordered. You can simply download the files to your computer and save them to as many thumb drives as you'd like!
I had many vhs tapes of my high school football games from the the 80s-90 that i wanted to preserve to watch with my son. Legacy box provided an extremely user-friendly and efficient tool to make sure that could be accomplished. Additionally, customer service was prompt and reliable.
Thank you, Jason! We are so happy that you could watch these digitized tapes with your son!
I saw a Groupon for Legacy Box. My parents had a whole bunch of old 8mm films in a box upstairs in the attic. The projector that we had no longer worked. So I got all of the film together, labeled it and sent it out. Legacy Box does e-mail you to let you know how many DVD discs you will get. Also, if there is an additional cost. Well, when I got the DVD's back it was wonderful! I am now sixty years old, and I was able to see my whole family again. When all the film was put together, I got over three hours of footage. Thank you Legacy Box so very much!
You're very welcome, Joanne! We are so happy that you can re live these memories of your family!
I gave them a try because of their Black Friday special. By not paying for express service, they basically put you at the end of the line, regardless of when they received your items. They have had my tapes for over three weeks and I just get these annoying updates that someone checked the barcodes on my items or we have reviewed the items, Please. You were advertising a few days before Christmas that you can still send in your tapes to received them in time for Christmas. So customers who sent in their items three weeks before Christmas but did not pay for express shipping or processing just keep waiting. I would just use a local service next time for cheaper pricing.
Buyer beware. My cousin shipped shipped 40 VHS tapes in December for conversion. He received UPS confirmation that the package had been delivered to the front desk. He called the company in January and were told they received the tapes and were working on the order. When he still had not heard from them or received the order in March he follows up and the company claimed they did not have the tapes. Not sure if they lost them or perhaps sent them to the wrong customer but all of his precious memories are gone. My cousin lost his brother last year to depression and he was getting these tapes converted as a surprise for his parents, not all the memories are gone as well as their son.
I had 40 tapes transferred to discs and, of course, have not reviewed most of them. The ones I did were excellent. The nice part of dealing with Legacy Box was that they always were in contact with me as the process was going on.
Love the care you take with the original items and the fact that they are returned in the same condition. Also, the results of digitizing them make them more accessible and easily seen! Thanks again for an awesome job!

Answer: All Video and Film Transfers are done so at 480P. Additionally, we convert almost all consumer formats of videotapes, photos, film reels, and audio. Here's a full list of formats we can digitize: *Videotapes: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, S-VHS-C, Betamax, Hi8, Digital8, Video8, MiniDV, HD MiniDV, and MicroMV A note on foreign tapes: We can convert most PAL and SECAM consumer format tapes. The only foreign format we cannot currently convert are PAL and SECAM Betamax tapes. Just put a note in your box if you have a PAL tape. *Film: 8mm, Super8,16mm, and Super16 A note on sound: Since sound on film is so rare, and to ensure we're providing the highest quality transfers, it is not our standard process to digitize film with sound. *Photos: 35mm Slides, Photo Prints (up to 8.5 x 11"), and 35mm Negatives A note on photo packaging: When sending in your photos, slides, or negatives, we ask that you remove them from any extraneous container, group them in bundles of 25 and place them in clear plastic ziplock bags or envelopes. *Audio: Standard Audio Cassette Tapes, Mini Cassettes, Micro Cassettes, and 1/4" Reel-to-Reel Audio If you have any more questions, let me know. I am happy to help!
Answer: Legacybox sends everything back to you along with any thumb drives, CD's you ordered.
Answer: No. Just went through this with them. It's a "tough luck" and they keep your money.
Answer: Nope. They took 3 months to tell me an item was "damaged" and then told me their refund policy was 20% or more of the media damaged to give any refund.
Answer: Hi Judy, Great question! We ask that slides be grouped into sets of 25 (one item) either in an envelope or ziplock bag. We will provide small barcode stickers to apply to each bag of 25. Slides will be processed in numerical order, according to those barcodes. The order within each set of 25 is not guaranteed as there are alternate factors such as shipping where they could move around. The digital files are free from any copyrights so you can very easily re-order them however you'd like once you receive them back! Please reach out to our customer service team for the fastest responses at questions@legacybox.com if there is anything else we can help you with!

Answer: Hello Lowell, We are a 1:1 transfer company meaning what is on your original will also be on your digital output. We do not offer any editing or enhancements. The digital files you receive back are free from any copyrights so you are more than welcome to edit them as you see fit. You can also request multiple copies when placing your order as well.
