I'm taking the time to do this review because I think this company is a scam and I want to advice the community.
It also operates as Newfold, Web.com and Bluehost.
From day one, the experience was a disaster: pages wouldn't load, there were constant crashes, and support turned out to be automated and evasive.
I do not recommend this service to anyone.
Been using iPage for 12 years no problem, until they recently got bought. Read the 2024 complaints, they're true. IPage helped themselves to more than $1000 from my account in September without authorisation. I complained and fortunately got about 95% back, and then they cancelled our website without explanation. We've set up with another company but no way would I trust them ever again, I've also had to switch credit cards to prevent their access.
I have never thought of asking a receipt from this place would take over two hours and still could not get resolve. You can never find the charge showing on their website (your portal) matches what is actually charged on your bank account. So asking for receipt is always a pain in the **. It is also very random too. It seems like it would depend on who you get as the virtual assistant on their "help" page. Sometimes you might be lucky that the person actual gets what you ask for and knows how to get it done. Many times its either either never get what you need and waste your time or they dont want to help at all. Never use this company ever again.
As around 14 years in tech industry i can say iPage is worst hosting provider. They just want to charge money and does not care about their services. Tech support as well, They do not have any logical answer for their mistakes and bugs in system.
Was with iPage for too long; then my website was compromised or hijacked and they have a service that they partner up with to "clean" it rather than policing in the first place to prevent from happening. Additionally when I went to cancel the service since fed up and went with another hosting company, the refused to credit ANY of the over $500 charge for three years when we were only 6 months in the auto renew cycle; you cannot get anyone on the phone and all has to be by chat. Sinking service sinking ship stay as far away as possible.
User interface leaves everything to be desired as it is both, slow and buggy. The hosting services are horrifically unreliable and the email services are terrible. Everything goes through ipage despite private hosting options. The support does not respond and there is a constant barrage of unexpected services tacked onto every single payment. We have been locked out of the service for days now and cannot get into our own accounts. Every login requires an outdated password.
My business website went down during a linux upgrade and stayed down 4 days. I repeatedly chatted with online support but they just kept saying that engineering was working on it.
Their online chat is a first level person with very little knowledge and you cannot ask to be transferred to a higher level support.
After three days of down time, I asked them to have engineering contact me and tell me what the problem was. I did get an email from some upper level support and they had the same answer. We are working on it. No details as to why it was down or when it would be fixed.
Extremely annoying.
I had been on the iPage VPS server for 7 years and this WAS an OK company. But since they discontinued their telephone support this year, the support is horrible.
My online business cannot be down for several days.
I finally gave up and moved my website to another web hosting company.
This by far is the worst company you could ever host with. I have been trying over a week to get access to my email that has been inactive since 7/11. I run a Homecare agency in NC and my email is a priority for this business. Not only do they no longer have a live agent you can speak with, but no one is answering the chats for the last several days. It's like they have me blocked because I'm trying to transfer my domain back to my previous provider and need an authorization code to complete the process. Please do not use this company, you will have problems every year like I have!
I have used ipage for years and always enjoyed the customer service. Unfortunately it is no longer existent. You have to chat with a person that takes forever to respond and doesn't even answer your questions directly. I started my chat at 6:41 pm to simply renew my domain and hosting and it took until 8:07 pm. I requested a contact number to call corporate or to file a complaint and all I got was sorry we no longer have a number for customers. Definitely going to explore my options as this is not customer friendly at the least.
On August 4th 2023 Ipage charged my MasterCard $677.59 without our knowledge, consent or authorization! Due to illness when this was brought to my attention my secretary called them they told her because it was past 15 days they couldn't do anything. I am also going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau!
IPage has turned into a scam. I used them for over 10 years and loved the service. One day they randomly charged me $550ish dollars for a service I normally pay $75. I asked them why and was told they are changing prices. I immediately moved my websites and cancelled my service.
I also requested that my credit card information be removed from their servers, which they claimed to do.
Two months later I notice they are charging me every couple days different random amounts from $6.99 to $249.99, adding up to multiple thousands of dollars.
It is so much money that Citicard wants to involve law enforcement.
I've now tried to get them to refund the charges on their own but they keep running me around in circles.
It is just a straight scam at this point.
They deleted my exchange email account claiming they sent me ONE email. Then they ended the chat when I tried to get them to help me. Left my business in a terrible position. They don't care. They also have no phone customer service and only use text. Terrible service. Very bad company.
Now they steal your money.
They have bad service, bad technical background as they keep playing with the domain ownership and making big mistakes, and then you have to spend hours and hours fixing that.
I was charged for an SSL renewal, and then they moved my domain to another account, which I don't own, and they told me you cannot get your SSL files because it's not your domain. Then I had to purchase the SSL from another service. After that, they came back with an email saying that it was their mistake and that I could not download the SSL files!
I told them then that we had agreed that. You will refund the amount, they refused to do so.
I lost my money and time for nothing… This is just one example.
Used to be a decent hosting, but it is getting worse by the hour. The prices for Website Builder tripled overnight from $130 to $320 without warning and explanation (after. There is no customer service whatsoever - some semi-AI. The customer service over the phone has been eliminated a s a class - no way you can talk to anybody. Theirs mail sucks - half of the US sites like Universities bump e-mails from iPage mentioning some DMARC error. When we tried to talk to tech support in iPage they told us that we should call mail admin in that University to allow our e-mail through. It is so bad that there is no point to waste time and money with iPage.
I have used Ipage since december of 2017, over the last 18 months you can no longer call them for support. After 12 months of calling for various issues and getting the recording that the phone systems are temporarily down I asked the person on the support chat about it and was informed they are working on getting phone support but do not know when they will have it. Meanwhile I have spent hours trying to resolve issues with things like my comapnies email going down for days at a time. Considing the number of hours, contact emails and potential sales I have lost over the last 12 months I have moved to another hosting company.
I would give no star if possible. Cant publish web, cant fix my lost email, cant resolve! I was transferred to them after years with their sister serving host EasyCGI. Have been unable to get the email back properly, have been unable to pull up my web site even after the web builder tells me I've published, and can get no resolution from there people (I can not call it customer service). Am in the process of changing servers; afraid how easy I'll be able to get my domain name released. DONT USE IPAGE!.
I have been with i.page for several years. I am currently moving all of my websites and hosting domain names to a different company. My emails continually bounce back because the certificate at i.page expires and Microsoft kicks the emails back. My free SSL security certificates fall off my websites every other day, so I have to call i.page or initiate a chat and spend on average 90 minutes with an agent and nothing improves. They just got bought out by Bluehost and the service has actually gotten worse.
I am moving all my active websites and domain names out of i.page.,com back to network solutions. They are exppensiuve but i nbnever had issues with them.
I had my site set to not automatically renew. Today I got a charge from paypal for over $550. I immediately disputed the charge. I attempted to contact ipage but its useless. You can only do chat and the person on the other end is intentionally useless. Ipage/Bluehost is owned by Clearlake Capital. Its hard to understand why a company as large as Clearlake Capital Group would allow subsideries to rip off customers. I have sent correspondence to Clearlake Capital Group to see if i can get some insight. I would absolutely recommend not to deal with ipage/bluehost.
I cannot email a client in Germany for more than 2 weeks because my email bounces back. His IP's message says there comes too much spam from iPage. Now iPage offers to fix it, but it will cost me yearly an additional $72. Infuriating!
There seems to be a common theme: They charge you for a renewal well in advance of your annual expiration date. In addition, if you look at your account and billing info, it tells you your expiration date but says nothing about their policy of charging you 15 days in advance, which they trot out when you notice a middle of the night email saying you've been charged and call them to cancel and get a refund. Can't be any more deceptive than that! Even worse, they charged me before the 15 days! It's time to get a class action against this fraud!
Answer: GoDaddy is better. Leave them and they try to hold your domain hostage for a couple of months or so. Tech support is the pits.
iPage has a rating of 1.4 stars from 43 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with iPage most frequently mention customer service and tech support. iPage ranks 594th among Web Hosting sites.
