Horrible service.
August 20, 2019

I ordered 10 boxes of bottled water for next day delivery, and I received only 3, the driver didn't know why, he said the order was to deliver only 3 boxes. Contacted their Customer Service and they were of no help at all. Stay away from this service.

Eh
March 17, 2022

So I will say, the people who work for instacart (some of them suck). You obviously need to know how to communicate with the customer. I hate ordering from instacart because the people who shop for my groceries NEVER LISTEN and if I chose delivery, they steal some of my groceries. Anyways some of the people they let work for them just, don't even need to work for them. They are rude and always have an attitude. One time a lady had gotten physical with me. Lord, gave me all the strength not to kick her $#*!.

Instcart charges for priority service as a false claim. If they have other orders, they lump them in anyway. Twice this happened in one month. I am trying to cancel my subscription and get a refund. And, they say they cannot give me one due to their systems.

Hidden fees
April 18, 2020

Not only does Instacart charge fees for their service, they also pocket any discrepancies between what you get charged for items on their website and what their shopper pays at checkout. We have ordered 4 times with Instacart. On 2 of the orders we got the actual store receipt paid by the shopper. In both cases Instacart charged us more than what Instacart paid at checkout. $9 In one case on a $60 order and then $15 on a $190 order. I contacted Instacart and they said that is their policy.

Terrible
July 18, 2023

The shoppers constantly forget to deliver items you are charged for or deliver to the wrong address then instacart acts like your ripping them off. I placed a $100 order but you really think I'm ripping you off on the $3 item I didn't get?

Delivery From Hell!
September 22, 2022

I used the Instacart delivery option for the first time through my local grocery store. I ordered at 12:43 and was told upon placing the order to expect my delivery by 2:43. I received a text about 2 that my shopper started gathering my items. She was nice enough to message me about one of my items not being available and what I would like to substitute it with. She checked out a little before 3 and my delivery estimate was about 3:25. I get a text at 4:24 telling me that my delivery was delayed because I was one of 4 orders being delivered at the same time by this shopper. She assured me that it would be delivered by no later than 5:10. What a joke that was! It didn't arrive until 7:13! Next time I am doing pickup instead.

Bad App
October 20, 2022

I placed an order to be delivered to my daughter but it came to me, despite the fact I gave them all of her information. I ended up delivering it myself even though I used the app to avoid that. My whole day disrupted because that app can't process information. Will not be using it again.

Unreliable
July 1, 2018

On every order, there is at least one wrong or missing item, which often ruins whatever meal/dish Im shopping for. About 1 in every 4 or 5 orders is a completely disaster. I once had an order that only had 2 items out of 23 correct. Ive also had serveral shoppers that were so aggressive that I refused to let them deliver to my home. I ended up deleting my account entirely. Id love for someone else to start a rival service like this as its a great idea but carelessly executed by Instacart

One 3 occasions now when having Instacart deliver the person who supposedly I am communicating with is in deed not the person but someone else logging in as them. I know this because the profile has shown the picture and name of the person and it is not them I was told by the girl that delivered yesterday when I questioned where the male was that was on the profile she chuckled and said "oh I just use his login". This is very concerning from a safety perspective. I reached out to them and they wrote back a bunch of words that were meaningless and did not address my concerns

Have been using this service in North Shore area of eastern Massachusetts about once a month. Has been a godsend during the pandemic.

Shoppers have been consistently good in our area. Today we had Alcindo S., who was amazing -- timely, polite, super communicative via text (before, during, after shopping). Actually read my detailed preferences for each item (great Instacart feature) and posted photos of suggested substitutions before making switches. Let us know exactly when he'd be arriving and in fact arrived exactly on time. Felt badly when my finger slipped and mistakenly chose rating of only 3 instead of max 5 -- cannot correct once entered -- so increasing his tip afterwards (another nice Instacart feature) and posting this review was my way of apologizing and thanking him.

Overall a terrific service!

I have used this service twice now. Half my order did not show up. Bags torn and holes in frozen chicken breasts. Bagged bread with canned goods. Replaced mac and cheese with a huge brick of Velveeta cheese (no pasta). Took the driver 30 minutes to drive 2.5 miles, most of the cold foods were defrosted.

Tried giving them, one more chance. This time $40 worth of groceries that WAS charged was NOT delivered. After contacting instacart, they will not refund, only credit instacart account. Fighting them to get my money back, because i will NEVER EVER use this horrible company to deliver anything to me again.

The Costco home delivery through instacart is terrible. They may say there is no delivery charge, but Instacart jacks up all the prices of goods. I've gotten the Costco receipt and compared to the Instacart order. Deliver ends up being about $12 - $15 more than buying at Costco, depending on what you order. The InstaCart shoppers are terrible. They do not look for or ask where items are. The shopper tells me all the time that something is out of stock and when I call the Costco that the order was placed at, they have the items in stock. Hopefully Costco realizes they would make a LOT more money if they hired their own delivery people and didn't use Instacart. The price gouging is crazy with Instacart. The service is terrible.

Poor policy
July 1, 2018

They did not honor free delivery after purchasing specific products on Instacart web page!
Ben and Jerrys might appreciate me buying over $20 worth of ice cream, but this was to specifically meet the free delivery incentives.

I had a large order which was never delivered, but I was charged. I contacted Instacart customer service 4 times via email because the wait time on the phone was over 229 minutes. I called multiple times. One time I waited 55 minutes and then was disconnected. I never received a response, so I disputed the charge with my credit card company. IMMEDIATELY I was contacted via email from Instacart's Security Team suspending my account. I responded with what happened and never heard back. I still can't use the service and my $99 fee was not refunded. Therefore I just averaged $33 per delivery because I only received 3 out of 4 orders. Totally disgusted by this company. Wish I never wasted my money or my time.

During this pandemic when we are homebound I really needed groceries for me and my toddler. I love shopping at sprouts and really needed an order from there. However Instacart does not allow prepaid cards of any type. Including Child Support Card's. They really need to review this policy. If there are available funds on a visa accredited card purchases should be allowed. Very disappointed in the service because it would have been a lifesaver right now. Literally.

Overcharge, supposed to have free delivery over $35, it added delivery fee plus an additional $10 for heavy item, (bottled water), these extra fees popped up AFTER it was ordered, did not show me all fees before it was too late! So I cancelled it, even more frustrating, per Customer service at Instacart " Instacart has already submitted your refund it takes up to 10 days for you to get a credit. Rrrr! How convenient for them. And then its an OVER charge to cushion the order for some crazy reason, this is not needed for bottles water. My actual total should have been $36.10 plus tax and "heavy" delivery fee of $10. Card was charged $60. Cancelled it so no receipt can be brought up yet I am charged instantly.
Never again. Rip off! Also the confirmation from Instacart thru Publix just states cancelled, no details, no recall of charges.

I will NEVER EVER EVER use Instacart again nor recommend to anyone. I place an order at 5:38 pm that included dinner and my cold medicine since I'm home ill in bed and husband is incapacitated as well. The order was slipped from within 1 hour to within 2 hours. Okay, no biggie. Then I received an email saying it would between 8:30-9 pm. Now I'm irritated but say okay. At 9 pm I call to ask where is the order and it was showing as still processing. The customer service rep puts me on hold for 5 minutes or so to come back and inform me that they could not get a hold of my shopper. Soooo, let's find next delivery... tomorrow afternoon. No thank you, just cancel the order. He actually had the audacity to offer a $10 credit if I decide to use the service again. If you can't deliver on your first opportunity to impress what makes you think it's worth $10 to try when you charge a 10% surcharge? HORRIBLE... Don't waste your time. Completely disappointed.

After waiting nearly two weeks, I received my order, excluding five major items that were in stock. There was absolutely no communication, nor even the possibility of me contacting the shopper or anyone else from this company. During a time when people depend even more on this service, and the business is swelling, they've removed all customer relations (work that can be done part time from home) so no one can contact them with concerns. If you can avoid it, do not ever use instacart. They have too much responsibility as an unreliable business that provides an essential service for a lot of people - they shouldn't be rewarded for failing the public. Now I'll have to make frequent trips to grocery stores, on foot, during a pandemic. But at least it's an (ill-advised) option for me, unlike so many others who depend on food delivery, and lack alternatives.
