It was a simple and easy process. Just answer a few question. Take a picture of your is if you have a smartphone, submit and wait to see if the is is accepted.
My general experience was basically good.
There was a problem when the steps came to me needing to scan the front and back of my government identification card. At first I had to switch between tabs to try and finesse this, and this ended up with me losing track of where I was. I had to start over. At that point, I was able to successfully scan both the front and back of my identification card. However, the computer initially interpreted my data in a strange way, conflating words and adding on letters and numbers that were unnecessary, completely missing others. This led to me initially being rejected for verifying my identification. So I had to enter the editing process and manually correct everything that apparently scanned wrong. Then finally after all of that, I was able to confirm my identity from the card, and I was brought into an extremely short chat with a clerk online, who took care of the rest.
Overall, the process worked, but it was not as problem-free as may be suggested. You definitely need a smartphone with you and high capacity Internet service. Those who do not or whose computer/keyboard skill is minimal, will likely have problems.
I found ID.me complex and confusing with blind alleys, requiring several tries and several hours to complete, especially the verification process, which involves multiple high-tech devices...not all of which I have. In the end, ID.me failed to get me to the IRS account I needed to access. The video chat agent was good. That was the only good thing about the ID.me experience.

The fact that the previous number is still listed on the account is the only thing stopping me. Would you be willing to help me remotely so I can log back into my account without your ID blocking it? Until you do a remote session, there is not much to discuss. I've asked more than 100 times, and each time you refused to take my ID off of my IRS account, I had to file a report.

Account suspended without a reason. THEY DONT HAVE A HELP DESK PHONE NUMBER. Numerous emails to resolve went unanswered I can't believe the IRS picked them when they don't offer customer service to resolve problems.
