ID.me simplifies how individuals prove and share their identity online. The ID.me secure digital identity network has over 98 million members, as well as partnerships with 30 states, 10 federal agencies, and over 500 name-brand retailers.
The company provides identity proofing, authentication and community verification for organizations across sectors. The company's technology meets the federal standards for consumer authentication and is approved as a NIST 800-63-3 IAL2 / AAL2 conformant credential service provider by the Kantara Initiative. ID.me's Identity Gateway also has a Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) Moderate Authority to Operate (ATO). ID.me is the only provider with video chat and is committed to "No Identity Left Behind" to enable all people to have a secure digital identity.
The company has garnered a mixed reputation, with notable strengths in its identity verification service, which many users found secure and efficient, particularly praising the helpfulness of customer service during video calls. However, significant concerns were raised regarding the complexity of the verification process, which some customers found frustrating and time-consuming, particularly older users or those with unique identification issues. Additionally, delays and technical difficulties, including issues with document acceptance and login credentials, have led to dissatisfaction among several users. Overall, while the service is valued for its security, improvements in user experience and support are essential.

While trying to meet Verizon's new Veteran authentication requirements through ID.me the support team disabled my ID.me account access after a failed password change attempt. That action set in motion an ID.me support do loop with their AI virtual agent Roy and I trying to re-gain access to my account. Within an hour, ID.me "Cyber Experts" declared "after a thorough investigation' my account would "remain suspended" to protect my identity and that I should file a report with the Federal Trade Commission, local Police Department among other things!? WTH!? This coupled with the fact that information I provided them back in 2001 that had not changed (phone #, address etc.) was no longer in my profile was all pretty disturbing. I finally made traction through the Better Business Bureau but overall, I found the entire experience troublesome and it makes me wonder just how secure my PII is with ID.me.
My email had an underscore character in it. It let me create the account. It let me logon. But some sites require email validation; and id.me would never validate my address. No errors. Nothing. Just no emails every got sent to me. I had to use a different email address.
I started the ID.me process on my iPad. When I had to submit my drivers license data, the system wanted to take picture of my drivers license and send it to another link. I changed to my iPhone. It was easy to submit the pictures. But then I was instructed tab to a different screen. No matter what I tried, I could not do it. Then I read further, if you started on one device and then switched to another, you must go to the device you started with and change tabs there. That fixed the problem.
The ID.me person flawlessly got me into creating a working account to log into the ssa.gov site.
It was tedious and frustrating. Instructions were not clear. Even if you are used to online processes this one is confusing. For example I downloaded a picture and waited for something to happen. I only pressed "continue" out of frustration as this usually means "I'm done here, move on to the next page". It should have said "download a picture and press continue".
Even more important is that there is no way to go back to the last step. When something went wrong or I had to go to my messages for the code I had to start the whole process over right from Google search.
You guys are really enthusiastic, very knowledgeable and extremely professional. I really appreciate your way of working.
Thank you for the support, I really appreciate it, I know it's a secure site
I absolutely loved how user-friendly this website is. It was easy to create my profile and check my status with the IRS. It is easy to understand and navigate. It used to be so hard to understand your file, balances, etc plus those long waiting lines on phone calls. Now things are readily accessible, including payment options. Excellent job, fully satisfied customer here.

I used the video chat option. It was extremely quick. The agent was all business and was polite. I appreciated the brevity.
Gave secure private info to get $1500 Lowes discount coupons. Never got them. SCAM!
Experience was Excellent professional and knowledgeable
I disliked sharing private phone number. I would expect a method of security to let me be secure in my own person.
