It is too difficult to set up the ID.me account to receive the Lowe's veteran's discount.I got error messages with no clear explanation about what the problem is or procedures to solve the error. A lot of critical private information is required! How do we know that information is secure! What a poorly written app. I'm closing our Lowe's credit account. Never shop at Lowe's again. If they can't afford the veteran's discount then don't offer it. What a disreputable corporation Lowe's is. They have ruined their reputation with me.
There's always Home Depot!

Fast and thorough ID verification

It is a surprisingly fast process for a fairly thorough vetting that relies on a number of factors in order to solve the challenge of how to securely verify the identity of someone who is requesting verification remotely.

It does require access to a phone with a camera (maybe a desktop or laptop camera would also work but I didn't try this) and also to a government photo ID like a driving license.

You have to record a selfie video from your phone, which is appears to be used for facial recognition based on your diving license photo, so it is quite thorough.

Despite the many different verification steps to confirm you are who you say you are, it is surprisingly quick to complete the process and get your ID - maybe 10 to 15 minutes?

If you've made a request on the IRS site, it will keep your request form open while you go through the ID.me process and, once your ID is confirmed, will automatically accept that without having to start the form over.

My experience with ID.me was extremely frustrating. I was unable to verify my identity because they said I had duplicate accounts but would not give me any information. Finally I was able to do a video chat after I uploaded some documentation and the individual I spoke with was very nice. He verified my identity.

Horrible. Constantly screwing up and when you need someone within the agency they are nowhere to be found. Customer Service means you actually help your customers. Being bad at your job, here, means people are losing out on jobs and access to medical records and help. Horrible.

Slow but steady wins the race.

It seems as though the electronics
upgrading, because the documents I sent were perfectly clear to me. Yet they were rejected multiple times.

But once I got through that, the rest of the process was very painless and quick. And the agent that assisted me was wonderful. She was personable and professional, as well as detailed and patient.
