A convenient and recognized organization to establish and confirm your identity and in my case my military veteran status. In my case Norwegian Cruise Line offers a "veteran appreciation" discount, and NCL recognizes "ID.me" as a credible source to confirm military veteran status. Once established many other organizations, ie- "Kohls Home Improvement", and government agencies refer to ID.me to confirm identity.
Had to get 3 secret numbers to verify my identity --& still gave my drivers license & still got no where its- just like you call anywhere to access your account- answer 10 questions-your put on hold -& then you have to do the whole thing over again
The person was very professional and courteous and knew his job very well.
My brother has an old phone number on file. He wanted to change it, but couldn't because the system only wanted him to verify him using the old number. A typical Catch-22 issue. He went three separate times to local SSA office, which changed the number each time. He then tried to access his SSA account, but the system still showed his old phone number. This is a technical support issue. The system should allow SSA agents to make and save changes to an account.
Super easy and super fast. My drivers license upload front and back where excepted first try the selfie was as well. If it's an option in the future for other identification purposes I without question will be choosing ID.me.
I see no reason why this site needs facial biometrics - they don't use it for anything. Just scraping data so the Chinese can steal it I suppose... Also, could not tell exactly who runs ID.me, so no way to assess if it's secure.
Also, dump the stupid captcha at the end that wants 5 things identified

This happens every time I try to login. It has been happening for over a year.
I was forced to use this software to get my Federal tax return. I file electronically thru a CPA and have never had any issues until I started using this pathetic ID.ME. I would not recommend this to anyone and I am planning on filing a compliant with my Federal representative once they are sworn in in Jan. My understanding is they have issues with the IRS. But to access my Social Security I still have to use this $#*!ed and useless system.
ID.me apparently has problems trying your identity to you across the different agencies that you may need ID.me to gain access to those government agencies. Yeah that is supposed to be their reason to exist. I had multiple accounts with ID.me! How? Who knows. So yes had to go through the time suck each time adding accounts using the the same steps and identification. Yet while not preventing you from signing up for multiple accounts ID.me throws hoops in front of you to remove those same accounts they shouldn't have allowed me to establish to begin with. An outside company walked me through ID.me website to start the process to remove the accounts. Nuts! So this issue is routine.
I was having trouble logging in at first but then after speaking with a live video chat agent helped me secure my information and I was able to log in successfully after the call
