This is one of the worse "identity verification" websites I have dealt with yet. They should do better. Nothing worked, it was excruciatingly difficult to get the the ID photos uploaded and the video interface was awful. I have a brand new iPhone 16, and a new laptop, so that wasn't the issue. The "Chat Room" CSR left me hanging. The entire experience was terribly time-consuming and extremely frustrating. C'mon, man!
I dread these websites, uploading, proving, further proving. ID.me was tolerable.

I am reasonably good with a computer, going back to the DOS days prior to Windows. I found the process extremely onerous, time consuming, and completely frustrating (as an understatement).
Parts of the process was less than intuitive, and too much a learning experience!

I already had an ID.me account. Tried to log in to use the IRS online tax app. User ID and password worked. Then it wanted me to enter a six-digit code send by text, which I did. Still not enough. The PC app switched to my phone, where I was required to take pictures of the front and back of my driver's license and a video selfie, and upload all three. Then my phone said to go back to the other open tab, but there were no other open tabs. I went back to my PC and clicked save and continue, and it took me back to my phone and through the whole process of taking and uploading three pictures again. Remember, this is to verify an already existing account! Once in, I accessed the IRS online tax app, spent about 20 minutes entering data, till it came to the point of entering income. The IRS app won't accept form 1099-R, the forms issued by the same federal government, the same form required by the same IRS to be issued for retirement income. I did this on March 2nd. The app said it would be able to accept form 1099-R in March, so if I'd like to come back in March, I could complete my return. I went to a different site, Online Taxes, and completed and submitted my return in less than half the time I spent trying and failing on ID.me and the IRS app. I've been using and building PC's since the mid 90's, so I'm no stranger to creating online accounts. Again, this was far and away the worst such experience I've ever had accessing an already-existing account. Or creating one, for that matter.
Some what satisfied it'll be all right. If I could figure out if I could talk to somebody in person not a robot about why I am always locked out of my ID me account.
My experience with ID.me has always been a smooth one and it's nice to occasionally get great discounts on account of your chosen work industry. It's simple and quick to verify what your work specialty is and then receive discounts. I check shop.ID.me before most medium to large purchases and have saved hundreds of dollars over the years.
