12 years, three properties and tens of thousands in subscription fees and now this. This company has gotten $#*!tier and $#*!tier over time. I will be leaving as soon as I can. I would rather give the business to the local real estate company.
Class action lawsuit. I agree.
Can't get my deposit back. They say it's the owner. The owner says homeaway. As they didn't pass out money to the owner in the first place I'd be on the side of the owner. I'm considering legal action to recover the money.
They say it takes 7-10 days after the 7 days for the authorisation. Absolute rubbish. I can make a bank payment immediately - why can't they? They are just sheisters. Don't trust them.
I lost thousands of dollars from Home Away! Stay away! Awful customer service. I rented out my home to someone on Home Away and the person destroyed my home, broke every piece of furniture, and stole every valuable electronic. Then, the next day, I found out that Home Away failed to even take payment for the rental, failed to notify me that they didn't take payment, nor the required security depost. Also, they didn't save the credit card for the guy, they didn't have any information on how to trace him, and basically said, "Go to Hell" when I asked on what to approach. I'm taking them to small claims court and I filed a police report says they are aiding in grand larceny. Worst experience ever.
We have always advertised with Owners Direct and now they have been taken over by Homeaway it is terrible, the enquiries we are getting have reduced significantly and to update the Homeaway site is just sheer hell. We are also with Homeaway pre pay bookings but none of the guests want to pay Homeaway direct because of all the terrible tales on the website blog about Homeaway not paying the owners and therefore the owners not honouring the guests booking. Mistakes on where the actual accommodation is etc etc. Really feel that I am going to cancel my listing with Homeaway.
I booked this one place but somehow it was canceled. The owners resent the payment and I played and it charged 91 dollars twice to my account. I was finally able to Pay the owner but for the canceled 91 dollars I am having problems getting back. Homeaway says there is an error in their system so billing would have to contact. I still have not been contacted and it has been 3 weeks.
I stayed in the home last summer 2018 and the house was amazing. You walk in to the Kitchen from the 4 car drive way and then into the living room where there are (3) 4' x 7' picture windows looking over the beach and ocean. I could have spent the whole week in there. Although this is not a party house as the house is in a quiet residential neighborhoodthe neighbors on the north were very friendly and the ones to the south were essentially never there or hide very well. The home owners were very nice and did a lot for the guests. There were ample towels and all the amenities one could ever need. I highly recommend this vacation home for a lovely vacation. See the photo I took from the porch of the Beach, Ocean & Prouts Neck at the crack of dawn. Albert
Rented an apartment in Ellicottville NY called Beauty View in Oct 2015. The place was a dive, and my friend and I could not bring ourselves to stay there even one night. Despite many photos depicting the poor conditions, HomeAway refused to help us in anyway with a refund.
Now that Expedia owns Homeaway and VRBO its a mess. They charge the guest a hefty service fee but provide NO service.
They tell guest they protect them, but they dont help when there is a problem.
They ruined a great platform for corporate greed.
Look but dont book, find the owner and book direct and save yourself the money and the hassle of Expedia.
Rented a room in a home through Homeaway, owner totally misrepresented. I had to find somewhere else to stay at 2 a.m. after I couldn't stay at the place I rented. Contacted Homeaway and got the run around, they didn't care, said they would contact the owner... what do they think the owner will say? Such a joke! Why wouldn't they take the listing down until the complaint is resolved? Why would Homeaway continue to allow the consumer to be hurt? Never again will I use this or any other site operated by Expedia... Nothing but a bunch of scammers!
Our family of six thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pica Flora rental property. The scenery was beautiful. It was very peaceful and homey. Great for adults who appreciate no t. V. There is wifi for those so inclined. The plants and wildlife are bountiful. Restful areas throughout the property to sit and read or take in the views. It is like a home. Comfy. Many items in the kitchen to use... showing a loved and cared for Homeawayfromhome. Leiticia, the property manager is readily available and will meet you in town to take you to the home. We had a wonderful stay.
The home we rented was not what was advertised. The "yard" was not fenced. There were rats, the air didn't work well and we had to change all smoke detectors that were ringing. This was also done without a ladder, not easy! The BBQ also was not usable. The owner is keeping over $300us in deposits stating our dog peed all over the rug. Our dog is fully housebroken and was never left alone. She said the rug is soaking however she contacted us 4 days after we left. I encourage everyone to look elsewhere and take pictures and video as proof of what the home looks like when leaving.
Homeaway / VRBO used to be a great resource to list vacation rentals, but since Expedia took over they keep stacking on the fees and lowering the quality of service. They think they have us over a barrel, but I intend to use other sites and avoid this money grubbing website.
I advertise on homeaweay.com for my Apartment. I have 10 positive reviews with two negative complaints- complaint 1. Guest reserved for 4 people and brought 6 people, and complaining Apartment being too small, 2. Last minute cancellation.
They had already charged me $350/ year on ad and had canceled my account with out any investigation on complaints. They they no concern for homeowners.
Everybody, Move to Airbnb!
We rented a house in I'lsle Sur La Sorgue through a Kim Fry. The property was good although the towels are a little past their prime... we expected better quality for the rental price. The real problem is chasing up the bond refund. We were a little tired of all the excuses & put-offs but were refunded eventually... don't get angry get serious! Not good enough Kim.
Home Away added another fee this year. While I am struggling to rent our place for 1400$, Home Away tacks on another $110 service fee, on top of their credit card fee, on top of the $400 I pay them to list. I fired them.
I joined Homeaway as a new property owner to advertise my rental. Their website clearly states in their FAQ that new listings will appear on their website in about 2 hours. After creating my listing I waited 24 hours and nothing appeared on the website. I called customer service and they told me that the 2 hours listed on the website wasn't true and it would actually take 5 - 7 business days for the listing to be approved. In addition to their high subscription fee I also paid for a 30 day "featured" listing. Subtracting the 5 - 7 business days for the listing to appear, I would actually end up with an 21 - 23 day day featured listing. There are also a lot of hidden fees that the don't disclosed to you until after you sign up. I cancelled my account.
I booked with them for 10 years and never had an issue. But this year I ran into an issue where the property was listed as refundable but after booking it, all that text was removed from their site. When I contacted them, they told me that its all through Turnkey and couldn't help me. So no change management on what is posted on their own site, and no ownership for the booking. I will be canceling my business with them.
I had a horrible experience with the company as well. I booked a place and the host emailed me asking for my personal info (SSN, DL and credit card). I declined to provide this info (within a couple hours of booking). The host cancelled my reservation and refused to refund my money. And HAs response "that's between you and the homeowner"
Service has gone downhill, and response to owners problems/dilemmas are met with resistance and stonewalling. Call centers are now located overseas (Asia/India), so you can't be understood well, and cannot reach the Austin team directly. I am so very disappointed, and fear they will run this once respected company DOWNHILL.
Homeaway insists their subscribers don't want an online classified ad service, we want hotel-style massive bookings. BUT as a VRBO subscriber with one home to rent, I want an online classified service. Never had a problem with the renters, they've never had a problem with me. The business model for VRBO was about performing a service for the vacation rental owner. Not any more, it's about how VRBO/Expedia can take a piece of the action without any of the risk we all assume as the owners, from bad renters, through to vacant time slots, through to costs of keeping a vacation home up and running. When VRBO/Homeaway starts offering to pay a portion of my realty taxes or insurance, I might consider cutting them a piece of my pie, but until then, one has to question the new business model they are pursuing. And look for alternatives.
Answer: Homeaway is charging a fee for paying through them. They said it was to improve marketing and because renters like to pay through them. As some one who is listed through Homeaway I find this practice destructive both to the owners and renters. I encourage all potential renters to contact the owners directly and pay us directly. Owners already pay a fee. If the owners want to be listed in higher tier you have to pay more. To me they are just trying to find ways to make more money at both the owners and renters expense without improved service for either.
Answer: Go elsewhere. Sadly what started as a very good site many years ago has evolved into an unethical monopoly that has a sole interest. Profit. They do not care about owners or travelers. They exist to remove you from your money, and will say one thing and do another. They have lost the faith and trust of both, and it is well-deserved. Anyone coming on board with any of HomeAway's companies as a traveler or host would be foolish considering their underhandedness.
Answer: That's a toss up... Kinda like eBay with sellers and no feedback... In general... I don't trust Home away anymore than I can throw em... cuz they are gonna side with their rentors and not you...
Answer: No, they won't. Worst agency I ever dealt with. Warn all you friends. They should be put out of business.
Answer: HomeEscape.com is relatively new but with the new Expedia Service charges on HomeAway/VRBO, the homeowners are moving over to HomeEscape in droves. Over the next year as the HomeAway subscriptions expire many of the homeowners will not renew with HomeAway if HomeEscape turns into a good alternative. In general we (homeowners) are pretty upset that Expedia is going to make over 4Billion in added income from our customers just in the first year of the fee, if folks continue to book through them. Many of us will feel pressure to lower our rental income but if you only knew our expenses you would know this is not really a big money maker for us - personally, these fees will actually put us well into the red. So, for our guests and ourselves, HomeAway will no longer be a site we do business with once our subscription expires. And, though we used to rent through them at least once a year, we're done with that as of now.
Answer: This was my first and last experience using a similar service. I have been traveling for years, staying at hotels, with no problems. Given my experience with homeaway, I will only use reputable hotels from now on.
Answer: If I were you I would run as far as you can from these people!
Answer: I don't think our guests are aware of the rip-off yet. Look what it took for us to figure out what they are doing.
Answer: Avoid them at all cost! They're criminals!
Answer: Trust me, Homeaway does NOT assist you contrary to what you might think of them as sort of a back-up if there are problems. It's the worst agency I've ever dealt with.
