My husband ordered strawberry plants as they advertise we ship when you should plant in your area. What a lie. They shipped March 19th and they arrived today March 29th. We live in NE Ohio and can have killing frost or freeze into May. We had snow on the ground last week. No way to get out to plant. All the plants look dead and they were dry as a bone after 10 days in shipping mode. Why ship Fed EX if all they do is turn it over to post office? That means more of a delay. I complained and was informed if they didn't grow we had a year of customer satisfaction. How does that make up for shipping at the wrong time. NO ONE in our area can plant strawberries outside. Never will we order from them again. Will see if the corn comes up but right now not in a good mood with their system.

There's a reason gurneys rating is in the 60s!
6 tomato plants were 10 days in transit. Were bone dry, not 1 viable leaf, very puny. Called customer service April 30th and service rep said she'd credit my discover card, but refunded my $38.97 with a coupon which could only be used at gurneys instead. Emailed customer service with photos on may 4, and resent email on 5th. No reply yet and it's the 7 th. Called customer service again today and insisted they credit my card. This will take 3-5 business days.

Gurney, please clean up your customer service division, and try using an American based customer service work force.

Disappointing
August 1, 2022

I bought many packets and I took great care w them. I live in south Florida so warmth, sunlight and rain isl not an issue. I checked on them 2-3 times a day, used very good soil and compost and yet almost nothing sprouted. I will NEVER buy from Gurneys again. What a joke! I wasted nearly two months growing time waiting for these seeds to sprout!

I ordered over $100 worth of plants from Gurneys. They all came in different shipments, two of the plants (Gardenia and Honeysuckle) coming from "Southern Living" with the tags still attached. Are you kidding me?! They also advertised the plants as being much bigger than the ones that arrived, and none of them were "naked root" as the website proudly proclaims. All of them came with rootballs bunched from being started in a pot sans the pot. So weird. I'm still waiting on one plant to even be shipped to me. This is such a waste of resources and a dumb business model to be quite honest. It seems they're a third party that probably ships from other nurseries. Shop local instead, never buying plants online every again.

Slow
April 3, 2015

It took 3 months to receive the tree I ordered. The web sight change my shipping date daily to 3 days forward, every day without fail for 3 months... I called the first month and was told it would probable arrive by the end of the month. When the tree eventually arrived it was half dead, and tiny.

Do not order from them!
December 31, 2022

I placed an order when they had a sale. None of my plants came. I had to reach out, after 3 months of the shipping date getting pushed over and over, to find out they had a shipping problem. So they issued me a store credit. Well of course I couldn't get as much now that the sale was over, but I gave it another shot. Again, delay after delay. Finally checked my order status and it said canceled. Without any contact. So I reach out. But they insisted I bought that order with a coupon so they refused to refund my money… DO NOT buy from this company. They scam and steal.

Ordered on Jan. 28th 2021... Just got the bulk of the order... 5-19-2021... still waiting on sweet corn seed and some pepper plants. They sent the sweet potato plant to me a month ago... planted immediately... all died. This place is such a $#*!show... wanted to start my pepper seed and tomato seed inside... call about the order to at least send me those 2 seed packets and they refused... was talking to the hindu hotline... no place to complain or contact someone of authority on the web site... I will never ever use this place again... never!

BAD, Bad Service!
April 3, 2022

Ordered seeds in packets and seed potatoes and Took a month to get them. They sent me a time schedule on when they were to be shipped. Then They lied and sent another time schedule for a month later. Contacted company twice to no avail. Never buy again from this company. So buyers Beware. Sad way to run a business..

Earlier this year I ordered a dogwood and two gooseberry bushes, which were both 2" high; all three failed to leaf out and died. On 3/25 I ordered six each tomato and pepper plants with expected shipment in early May. They did not ship until 6/5 and did not arrive until 6/12. The tomatoes were 2" high and stunted, shriveled, and yellowed. The peppers were green stems with no leaves. I have photos. I would never purchase such poor quality plants from a nursery, but I am now housebound due to the coronavirus. I asked for a refund but have had no response. I am a lifetime gardener. Gurneys has probably taken every order they could and then shipped inferior plants to make a swift buck off of people desperate for plants to be shipped to them. Shame on them.

I am so disappointed with Gurney's. I used them for years and was always happy but we were not able to plant a garden for 3 years. I ordered this year and I'm so unhappy with them. My carrots never came up, after 2 plantings. I had 1 beet come up out of the entire package. I had to cancel my order of red and Yukon potatoes. They kept changing the shipping dates, and it was well past time to plant. I had contacted them several times but ended up fighting with them to cancel my order and refund my money. Now I'm dealing with the same issues with the sweet potatoes I ordered. They have been packaged and ready for shipment for almost 4 weeks. They keep telling me they can not cancel the order. They keep telling they will be picked up for delivery tomorrow. They have told me that for 4 weeks now. Save yourself the frusta d use a different company.

I've been a customer for many years. This year, things changed. My order on 2/28/2017 has not yet been shipped on 3/26/2017 - holding for a single item. They have told me twice that they would put a "rush" on my order. As of today, 3/26/2017 they cannot commit to when my order will ship. Kurt Johnson, Urbandale, IA

Smallest, most pitiful plants I have ever bought. One of the three was dead and two were smaller than promised and in poor condition. I have grown tomato plants for years. The next time I will go to Laurel's Heirloom Tomatoes in Californiashe ships the largest, most beautiful, picture-perfect plants I have ever ordered by mail.
Gurney, you should be embarrassed for the pitiful plants you shipped to me in Kentucky!

What a Rip Off
April 12, 2022

Placed an order on 1/6/22 for some blueberry plants, strawberry plants and two small bags of special fertilizer. They charged my AMX the next day, shipped the 2 small bags(1lb each) and never shipped the plants. I called and they made multiple promises that they never kept, Finally well past planting time and after multiple calls I cancelled order and asked for a refund. They granted the plant refund but refused to grant a refund for the 56.00 shipping for the plants I never got and cancelled before they shipped to me. This company is at best unconcerned with keeping customers. I asked to have a manager call me and that never happened. Will now go through the dispute process with AMX but keep in mind that if they string you along for more than 90 days(as they did me) the dispute process probably won't work. They have lost me as a customer for life and I suggest others look for company's that are customer focused.

Unhealthy plants, bad seeds
September 30, 2020

Ordered a half dozen raspberry plants which arribed in very poor condition. Only 1 survived the season whereas my other half dozen raspberrys from Lowe's had survived and are thriving. They are of the same variety. Also had no luck from the seeds which I bought at a premium from them compared to the seeds I'd bought elsewhere. Every year they just keep getting worse. For what they charge they certainly fail to deliver. Just stay away.

Gurneys isn't the same, something has changed for the worst. Ordered from them for many years and was always happy with the plants and service, not anymore, the last few years they have sent out poor quality moldy asparagus roots and the replacements were poor too.The same thing this year, I asked for a refund and they no longer give out refunds. Don't waste your time and money.

I suggest this company to join Amazon. I received the wrong item after 2-week waiting shipping period. It wants me to pay the shipping fees to return the wrong items. I advise you to join Amazon and support USA businesses!

Promotional scam to be aware of
May 21, 2022

Worst company ever. Do not. I repeat- Do not fall for the scam of order 100$ worth and get 20$ off your order. Or order 200$ worth and get 100$ off.
It's a scam.
This is how they operate. You will order for specific amount and they will ship you a partial order. And then for the remaining of the order they will be back ordered or cancel your order that will bring your total amount down and you will lose whatever promotion is going on.
So for instance on my latest order I had $46.93 remaining partial order and they just canceled my order and refund me $11.09 because now I'm no longer qualify for the promotion that was going on.
And this is the second time it happening to me.

Thieves!
April 21, 2020

The website totally hides the true colors of Gurneys! I wouldn't have even given one star but had to rate them!
All I can say is GO ELSEWHERE! They'll take your money upfront, and you'll get several "out of stock" notices. When I asked to cancel my order (after 2 1/2 months of waiting) I asked for a refund, for the 325.00 order I placed, they charged me 91.00 for ONE package of Broccoli seeds and a hand full of dried up DEAD onion sets!
I purchase the rest of my seeds from local stores for just over 100.00! They are outrageously priced but thought I'd give them a try to stay out of the stores during the Pandemic... boy, do I wish I'd of saved my money now! It's a hard trying time for all of us, and we can't afford this type of business robbing from us!
DONT BUY HERE!
Oh, one last note, you'll wait on hold for up to an hour if you need to talk to a live person!
