Welds
November 12, 2021

Learned a lot since my heat pump quit after just 6 years. With all of your coil issues, why on earth would you continue the copper to aluminum welds knowing they won't last?

I was one of the suckers that thought the good price of Goodman and the fact I kept hearing about how bad Goodman was, was mostly caused by poor installs. I took the bait and took a chance but after 7 years I can officially say I DO NOT endorse going for a Goodman. I purchased some of Goodman's best equipment in 2015. A variable furnace and 2 Stage 16 seer condenser. The install was done by very perfectionistic installers, the product was registered for the warranty correctly.

Well this June, my condensing unit just stopped. It was determined that the Fan motor failed. The compressor was going on Thermal lockout and for whatever reason the PCB failed in the unit also. Upon trying to get parts, NOTHING was available! I was out AC for over 2 weeks in 90+ weather. Totally unacceptable. I Do not care about the Supply Chain issues. Goodman just doesn't stand by their product. If a customer buys a top of the line unit, has a warranty, they should've come out and replaced the condenser if they couldn't get parts. I just wanted them to honor the warranty and they DID NOT. Beware to anyone considering a Goodman!

One star is too much for the quality of the product, but there is no other options. My brand new airconditioner leaked all the freon after 2 months of use, considering price of freon refill, coil replacements and general poor quality of airconditioner, I bought new one ( different manufacturer) and it was installed. Here is the letter I got from their customer support.
Hello,

Thank you for contacting Goodman's Homeowner Support Division.

We sincerely regret the difficulty you have experienced.

We make every effort to manufacture products of only the highest quality. Goodman's record in providing consumers with a well-designed, long-lasting product is among the best in the industry. However, despite the careful testing of each unit, problems can occur.

As a manufacturer we will advise you, it is impossible to predict the life of any one part, so we provide a warranty to assist with repair costs.

Our Limited Warranty covers replacement of a failed part, should a part fail. This warranty does not cover labor, service charges or any other cost associated with the repair. This warranty does not cover refrigerant, shipping charges, down time, utility costs or replacement of a unit or reimbursement for a part, etc.

A licensed HVAC contractor must take the failed part to a local Goodman distributor. Distributor provides a new part as an exchange for the old one. The homeowner is responsible to pay labor and service to re install the new part.

The original installer is licensed through the state in which service is rendered and an affiliate of the distributor for the area. They are independently owned and operated companies and are not authorized or employed by Goodman Manufacturing Company.

If you desire additional assistance, please contact our toll-free line at: *******729.

Thank you,

Homeowner Support Agent

Franklin ac
DO NOT BUY A FRANKLIN AC!

We bought a Franklin ac system in September 2019 for $7,400.00. We started having problems right away. It stopped working so many times. They replaced various parts trying to resolve the problem. Finally, at the manufacturer's direction, they installed a "hard start kit". The system then worked fine until June 2023.

Then the same issue started again. Ac would just stop working. After cycling the circuit breaker, it would work for about 24 hours. Then we would have to reset it again.
North Central Florida AC, the ones that we purchased the AC from, wasn't able to fix it. They did replace a few parts but that didn't fix it. Part of an email from owner of North Central Florida Air conditioning, Raymond Walsh, "Your warranty is not with North Central Florida Air Conditioning. Your warranty is with the manufacturer. We are an authorized dealer to work on these units for your warranty company. It has become clear that we are not the best company to assist you with resolving the issue you are experiencing. At this time, I recommend you contact a different company who may be better suited to resolve the issues you are having."

Also, on several occasions, North Central Florida AC office staff would yell at me saying there is nothing wrong with my AC!

So we called Mid-Fla AC. Dustin came out and worked tirelessly on the AC. He reached Franklin's technical support who said it was a voltage problem. So, I had an electrician come out (cost me $675.00), and he put in bigger gauge wire even though he didn't think that was the problem but we will never know.

Then our electric utility came out and put in a new transformer! No, it didn't seem to be the problem and Franklin refused to pay us the money we put out for this.

Franklin tech support authorized a replacement circuit board (second one), a hard start kit (second one), and a capacitor (second one). For now the AC is working but I don't have much faith in it. When you pay $7,400.00 you expect better quality and better customer service. I called Franklin manufacturer and spoke with a supervisor by the name of Cassie. I basically wasted my time and she seemed to have zero empathy for seniors. Unfortunately, we can't afford to buy a new AC. But I would never, ever recommend a Franklin ac.

We also found that the warranty does not cover any extra charges for service calls outside normal working hours. If the AC breaks after hours or on weekends, too bad for you.

I understand people say Goodman air and heating units are the cheaper brand but for people like me who doesn't have the money made it somewhat more affordable. I had it for a little over 5 years and the compressor died. Warranty was for only 5 years so I need to pay out of pocket. The Pat Walsh plumbing, heating and cooling company installed it and told me Goodman gives 10years warranty yet when called in, I wasn't even registered as a buyer and explained it was good for 5.1st, why didn't pat walsh let me know about the warranty and didn't register it. 2nd, did this company know it'll last only 5 years so it was warranted for that time only? 3rd, I hate how companies have a way about warranties so we the costumers get screwed over. I know I wouldn't purchase Goodman product again. So whomever is reading this, ask and know about the warranties. For a few more bucks for a better product is always a win. It's so sad the companies make cheap, crappy products that doesn't last like it used to. We give and complain yet thats all we can do. Glad your pockets get deeper.

GSC130601

Replaced my old AC condensing unit with a GSC******* unit from Goodman in 2015. Compressor went out this weekend, 7/22/22. I am a bit mad that the compressor prematurely went out as most have over a 10 yr life span, but what the heck thought was covered by a 10 year warranty only to find out that the 10 year warranty offered to registered products which per the Goodman website is not a requirement for California residents was only a five year warranty. What makes me madder is not that the compressor went out, I opted for a lower end product and you get what you paid for, but that the cost to replace the compressor is almost in line with the overall 2015 cost of the complete compressor unit including installation. Thank you to COVID and manufacturers who took advantage of the pandemic to raise prices for that.
As I cannot afford to replace the complete system now, I will have to suck it up pay the $2,500 repair bill to replace the compressor. It's just too hot not to have the AC running.
That being said, her are my thoughts if you are on a budget and thinking about buying a Goodman:
1) Take the time to register your product on line to get the 10 year warranty. Do it your self as the installer will not do it for you even if he says he will.
2) California residents should also take the time to register on line as well. I know it says on the Goodman web page that California residents are not required to register their product but based on my experience, Goodman will only honor a 10 year warranty if product is registered online.
2) Put money aside each month for AC repairs. Goodman products seem to be lower tier and will require repairs sooner than other products.
3) Take the time to research other products and options. Thinking back, I should have replaced the complete system in 2015. Would have cost at least 30-40% cheaper than now; would have been able to finance at a low APR rate and would not be in the pickle I am now.
Hope this helps...
