In real life, each package is dull gray and look unappetizing. You pour in bowl and add boiling water and let it sit for 10 minutes. It becomes even more unappetizing. I mean seriously - the taste is repulsive. I cook WFPB food without salt and oil, and it does not need to be this way. I ordered for convenience. I'm throwing it away because it is inedible. I don't even dare to offer it to any other person to take and eat.
I have been a vegan for 6 years and have been using your meals, soups and smoothies and for over one year and would highly recommend them to everyone. You can always add different items and seasonings if you prefer to every meal and smoothie. I also very much appreciate the tips and different recipes that LeafSide sends you, they have all been AWESOME! Thanks Team Leafside for being there for us =)
Poor service, cannot speak with anyone even after numerous calls and emails.difficult to order fewer items, they will automatically default you to the full package.
Food okay in a pinch but doesn't really rehydrate well. Seemed like it was only partially rehydrated after the 10 minute time. Flavor okay but not great. Was mostly edible but does not make me want to order again.
I have been vegetarian for 25 years and went vegan 8 months ago. I eat little to no processed food. What was missing for me was convenience. My taste buds may be different than someone who is not used to eating this way. That being said, I think the meals are delicious and super easy. I keep a percolator of hot water going all day for my coffee and tea and I use that water to make the meals. It is not boiling water but it does the trick. I can now have a completely healthy meal in 10 minutes and get back to my desk and work. The convenience is outstanding. This has been the missing piece for a consistent healthy diet for me. If you find the meals are not tasty, I suggest just sticking with them for a week or so and see if your palate changes. That often happens. Sometimes the healthiest food takes a little bit of time to get used to but the benefits far outweigh any initial resistance. I could not be happier with this company and with these meals.
Taste was fine, but the instructions state to cover with boiling water, put on lid and let sit for 10 minutes. The beans were still very hard, I added some more water and let sit another 5 minutes, still a little crunchy but I didn't have time to wait longer. I think the instructions need a little revision.
I tried Leafside in the interest of eating healthier and ordered a variety of their savory bowls. I ended up throwing away most of the meals (and I am not normally one to waste food) and cancelling my subscription. Food should taste good, and Leafside's meals tasted awful.
The concept behind Leafside is great: Whole Food Plant Based meals that contain the Daily Dozen recommended by Michael Greger. But the taste? God awful. Over-spiced, and such an awful combination of spices. I would have given it zero stars, but you're forced to rate it at least a 1. That 1 star rating is for convenience only. Pour a pack into a bowl, add 1-1/2 cups boiling water, and let sit for 10 minutes. That's it. And if you don't stir it well enough, you have partially rehydrated chunks in your bowl. I placed my first order and, thankfully, I have a whole month to cancel my subscription. I've done Hungryroot and some of the other services. They may not be as healthy unless you modify the meals (eliminate the oil in their recipes, for example) and they may not be as convenient, but Leafside is really camping food. Easy to prepare freeze-dried food. All I need to go with it is a glass of Tang.
Like many people, I gained weight during the pandemic. Leafside helped me lose most of that weight over a few months. The benefits of Leafside are also the disadvantages. Some of the savory bowls are full of fiber and very "dense". The first time I ate a Leafside bowl my stomach swelled up and I had terrible gas. However, this limitation of Leafside (lots of fiber/very filling) is also a great advantage. It can be super depressing to feel that all you can eat are foods that are not very filling or flavorful while on a diet. Now when I am feeling very hungry, I prepare a savory bowl or soup. I learned to "handle" the meals by eating a third to half a bowl for one meal, and saving the rest for later. I also take beano pill for gas. I subscribed to Leafside and now receive a bowl of about 20 meals in each box. In addition to the savory bowls, the Leafside meals include smoothies and sweet bowls and soups. I feel that Leafside has changed my life for the better because they are extremely healthy. Each meal contains many of the "daily dozen" foods. They are also super easy to prepare. I simply pour boiling water on the bowls/soups or prepare the smoothies in a blender. With Leafside I have been able to lose almost all the weight I gained during the pandemic, while also improving my health. I plan to continue the meal subscription service indefinitely. The meals are a good value because they are so full of excellent ingredients and are filling. (As I mentioned earlier, the savory bowls also last me for a few meals.)
Very disappointed! We tried 3 meals so far, and 2 were thrown away. The taste was so unpleasant and too spicy (and we love spicy foods and have been Vegans for 4 years). I'm sticking with my own cooking creations!
