Garbage
September 4, 2016

Full of nothing but bots. You have to pay to get anything done. I spent more time reporting bots than I did actually searching for anyone. Never, ever pay for this.

I logged in to find my profile gone and an apology and the suggestion to recreate my profile. I did and all the geeks were gone. Not only that, but it was filled with brodudes. WTH? Run away!

Gk2gk is, in short, a scam.

First off, though the site is $8.99 for your first month, you will be automatically billed $42.99 for the months after that. The thing is, there is no way to unsubscribe on the site. There is no checkbox to cancel auto renew- you have to cancel from WITHIN PAYPAL.

Second, the selection of people simply isn't there. There are only a small handful of people in the DC/Baltimore/Richmond area it's a joke. The vast majority have been inactive for an extraordinary amount of time and those that are active never seem to respond. One would say the last may be a reflection on me, but when I got sick of Gk2Gk and decided to sign up for a competitor's site, I was getting replies within 24 hours.

Lastly, you'll kick yourself for not seeing the red flags. $8 a month, followed by $43 a month for a dating site? That's nearly triple competitors. And they won't refund you anything even if you never used the site and were billed because their site doesn't allow you to unsubscribe directly.

Spend your money elsewhere. This guy's just hoping you don't see or dispute the $43 a month you're being charged because you aren't paying attention.

Waste of a great idea
October 23, 2015

Don't do it. You cant read any messages unless you pay - and the price is WAY more than it should be. They say that a priority message (paid message) can be read by everyone but that is a LIE! They let you read the first two priority messages then - blurred. If the user has been trying to contact you already ALL the priority messages will be blurred out. I complained repeatedly and demanded an explanation and got this priceless reply: "If you're a free member, and you noticed that the message in your inbox is not "blurred", it means that you can read that message. This is for giving an opportunity for the free members to read their emails before upgrading their account. But this is nor being offered to all free members." then ""... but there are instances that free members may be allowed to read their messages (tagged as PRIORITY messages) to give them chance on communicating with other members. Hint is, these messages are not blurred once received and just to be clear, not all PRIORITY messages will be free to read." then finally " Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE"

I'm deleting my account now. What a waste!

This site is targeted toward a small subset of online daters: The Geeks/Nerds.
I joined briefly because with my love for PC gaming, Marvel comics, and all things "Trek", coupled with my dismissal of all things "sports" I certainly qualify as a geek.

The problems I found with this site are twofold:

First, you can't see ANY of the photos of other members unless you pay for a silver subscription ($9.99 per month w/ recurring billing) or the other member has a gold membership. It also seems rather backward that you can read (but not reply) to messages from paid members even if you don't have a paid membership.

Second, there were only FIFTEEN females in my age range (40-60) that lived within 50 miles of me. I'm not cheap but that's much too small a pool of potential daters for me to buy a subscription now.

I'll keep my profile there and check in from time to time. If the site gets any better (or worse) I'll come back and update this review.

On edit (2017)
Things hadn't improved, so ultimately I removed my profile from the site.
Reading the other reviews, I think I did the right thing.

Awful

I think maybe they have five active members within driving distance. Everyone else is a bot. No use asking for a refund. You will never get it.

I just plopped down the $79 for 6 months so I could read and reply to adds which has been an industry standard for years. It just comes with the territory. Besides the under performing website I just got a message from someone asking me to subscribe so they could read my messages... It reads "too bad i can't read your messages, you should subscribe so i can read them. Kara" Ok wait I already subscribed for one thing and 2nd if you can reply to me why would my subscription allow you to read my messages? It doesn't make sense unless they have different rules. I'm trying to give these people a chance but with all the negative reviews on this website it looks I've been had. It looks like their bot messed up and sent me a message normally reserved for someone who hasn't subscribed just yet. Or they have different rules for male and female users I don't know but sent them a message giving them a chance to clear it up... CAUTION: The site is full featured with lots of bells and whistles and looks like it's a hefty offering. But it could be all BS. Can't say I've gotten a lot of spam but it looks like women sign up with a gmail username to get past their filters to at least get someone's attention so they don't have to pay... I'm testing my theory at the moment. My profile has been suspended due to putting my username of another website in my profile and emails are definitely barred from the profile forms. I found one lady with an email in her profile. If it's not removed from her profile then I know it's a bot... It should be removed... So, beware of the nice website with this one... The bots have pretty much taken over online dating in general so it looks like it's back to meeting people the old fashion way which is probably better anyway people, come on! In person and face to face is much better.

First thing to note, the URL ends in ". Co" not ". Com". For anyone trying to spot something sketchy, that's a big thing to keep an eye on.

Second, when I first made an account, I counted exactly 20 matches, exactly 5 of which had exactly 1 profile image, exactly 10 of which had some semblance of a bio that was short, and really not that appealing, and exactly 15 of which had names that weren't just a seemingly random series of letters and numbers interjected into a common word or phrase. And of the 10 with bios, their headlines, unless geeks are just terrible at that sort of thing, were all way too generic as though no thought at all went into them. "Not sure what to put here", "Gamer Girl", "the real windwaker". Like really? If there's anything that's been so obviously auto-generated, this is it. That, or the users there are so very unoriginal.

Third thing to note, they only claim to have 200,000 users? And they claim to be growing by 6k per day? A steady climb like that is only possible with bots or fake amounts as filler. And as for the 200k users, that apparently spread across the entire globe. Meaning that the chances that there's even just 1 other person within 50,000 miles of anyone else's location is so infinitesimally small, I'm surprised they feel it with bragging about! A true geek or nerd would see those numbers and scoff when they also see 20 incomplete accounts with exactly 1 image max when there's a base REQUIREMENT when making the account for at least 1 photo? As though magically when you created an account 20 people of your desired gender just happened to create an account too within your search area at the same time? Really? The numbers just don't add up.

And finally, the website is incomplete and still using HTML format. Even if they paid a service like wix to create a website, the baseline stuff looks better than this. It's as though if they tried making the entire site from scratch themselves, using basic level HTML coding they just learned to make this.

So if your website really is real Geek2Geek.co, you might want to address these issues. And if it is a scam, you'll be a far more effective scamming site if you address these matters too. I mean, really?
