REALLY BAD SERVICES! MY ACCOUNT HAS BEEN CLOSED DUE TO UNKNOWN REASON! I'VE SEND MY DETAIL TO REACTIVE MY ACCOUNT AND I DIDN'T GET ANY EMAIL FROM FREELANCER!
I have experience in translation, transcription, copy writing, content writing, proofreading and related areas.
I needed some quick cash, and signed on to Freelancer to earn it. After winning a bid, Freelancer immediately withdrew their 10% from my bank account - an unpleasant surprise, but digging deeply enough, I found this policy in their terms of service. Oh, well.
I completed the job for the employer (who paid promptly and gave me a 5-star review) and tried withdraw funds to my bank account, which is where the trouble really started.
There is a 15 day hold on the first transaction "for security purposes", though the work I'd done had already been delivered and paid for by the employer. This left me down $20, and waiting for over 2 weeks to get paid - not much help in my cash-strapped position.
I'd asked for a partial payment, leaving $50 in my Freelancer account to cover the cost of any future bids, while I wrestled with whether I wanted to do any further business there. When I went to withdraw the rest of my funds, I was asked to re-verify my identity again (I'd had to do this in order to bid in the first place), with additional hoops to jump through - photos of my bills, the back of my ID card, pictures of me holding the ID card and a security code from them, etc. From other reviewers, I don't expect this to work - I figure that I've just lost the $50 in that account. Not a huge sum, but the inherent dishonesty would warn me away if it were only 50 cents. That they can surprise me by withdrawing funds at will from my bank account is something that I'll have to have my bank block - I don't trust them to not do it again.
Freelancer's fees on that $200 transaction were $20 from me, and another $14 that they were paid by the employer - a total of 17% of a 'finder's fee'. That's not a bad percentage, but that's not enough for them - they are prone to keeping even more whenever they can. "For security reasons". Roight.
I join freelancer.com just couple of days ago, thinking that I will make some extra money. I was asked to verify my account by adding a payment method which I did by adding my Paypal account.
I got my first project awarded today by some fake employer with no ratings. I don't know how he was allowed to award me the project because as per Freelancer policy, an unrated employer needs to deposit 20% of the project value before awarding it. They didn't collected this amount from him as they new he was fake but went ahead and charged my legitimate Paypal account with $12.59 CAD as their commission of the Project value which I didn't receive a single cent yet and will not receive as the employer is fake.
I immediately stopped further direct debit from my Paypal account to prevent Freelancer to extract more money from me. I don't understand whether their motto is to generate income for us or to rip us off.
Anyways, when I complained they say their project fee is non-refundable and whether the employer pays or not it is your problem not their. They got my money so they are enjoying. I have raised a dispute on the transaction with Paypal on the grounds that Freelancer should have collected 20% project value from the unrated employer. Lets see what happens.
I want to caution all of you to think twice before getting into this.
I am a seller on eBay and if for some reason the buyer doesn't pay then eBay reverts back the commission. I don't know what kind of site is this Freelancer.com, how can it take money when I never made anything from their site. This is very unethical way of doing business. I don't think they can continue for long this way.
Answer: It is a PR platform that enables scammers to appear legitimate or verified. Freelancer doesn't care. They get a sizeable commission no matter if the posting is legitimate or not. Example: A fake ebook listing. Needs author to write 50000 words for US$ 2000. Unwitting freelancer bids and is 'awarded project' with message saying hurry up and accept. Once accepted, freelancer takes 'project fee' while you get tied up in their help callcenter trying to recoup not only the fee but potentially the fake employer gleaned from you using their platform. This site will be in the news soon. Trust me.
Answer: Hi Dejan. This happened to me in 2014, I lost a lot of money too, I withdrew the money on a Wednesday after the client had paid me $1000 in full. Then the next day, Thursday, I got a message that my withdrawal request was cancelled and the money reversed back to employer. My account was suspended and when I asked why, I was told that the employer looked like he was fraudulent and that the money might be fraud. Up to date, I am still bitter, angry and sad over that $1000 but I never got it back and Freelancer closed the person's account and that was that. So I hope this answers some of your questions and I am deeply sorry for your loss after such hard work. All the best
Answer: Freelancer.com focused on employer only, they just want as many employer and project as they can regardless of their country, verification status and deposits. However all the restriction is for employee. This is the reason Freelancer didn't stop them to post project without deposit. Almost 90% projects are fake (either posted by freelancer itself or fake/fraud employers). You have to be careful. Keep following things in mind will prevent you from fraud much. 1. Don't work for Employers from India/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka/Nigeria/Israel 2. Don't work for Employers whose name looks like Indian 3. Once the project is awarded to you, don't accept it unless the employer created initial milestone. Wait for at least 12 hours after milestone creation then accept it. 4. Ask for release step by step, don't work on next milestone unless previous is not released 5. Withdraw money from freelancer as fast as you can.
Answer: You can't say its fake but at the same time you can't just trust it fully. My point here is: people do get things done for the price but when it comes to money/payment, you can not trust freelancer. Sometimes it gets reversed from your account and you won't even get a satisfactory reason for it. I suffered a loss of 900 USD. All I get to hear that employer had some account issues and we can not disclose this any further. If you looking to work as a freelancer, go odesk or upwork and any other site first and then freelancer.com. Small incident: I worked for a client, designed the logo got the parent for it. Next day when looged in, my account showed negative balance ( payment reversed). Support: employer have acc. Issues Client: never came back or responded to any mails. Result: I worked and still in debt.
Answer: Dispute it with PayPal! Another beautiful example of why everyone hates Freelancer.
Answer: Freelancer is scam. I have very bad experience recently. "The payments you've received from your employer "-----------" were reversed due to their account issues. As a result, their account was closed" Lost over 800$. Freelancer also keep the fee for this job! Their support never answer. SCAM
Answer: Agree, do not use credit card details - freelancer is a terrible organisation when it comes to finances - they just debit your card at will, no warning, no opportunity to review the transaction, no notification of the charge - you just find out once you get your bank statement. Be very, very wary of this company - not saying their dodgy, BUT they are very devious when it comes to transactions. I think their motto is - "debit any time, just don't tell them and they wont complain"
Answer: Contact Paypal and file a dispute. I got a refund for the monthly amount that they should not have charged me for.
Answer: Good afternoon Rostyslav, unfortunately this has happened to most users of Freelancer including people who have been awarded projects. Ensure that you do not start any work or event accept a project until the following criteria have been met: 1. Project awarded 2. Initial milestone/deposit created 3. Client agrees to release the first payment immediately after you accepting the project. If they are unable to do this, tell then politely that you are unwilling to start on the project and keep looking for honest, legitimate clients. Be careful at all time on this website, even if you do vey thing by the book and the client still doesn't pay, the Freelancer support team will not help you. It is left to you to contact the client and chase the payment even of they delete their account.
Answer: Don't share you card. Use Paypal. First of all don't use freelancer they are scammers.
Hi Manuel, this is Marcus from Freelancer.com. It is unfortunate to hear the experience you had with the project awarded to you. Project commissions are only charged to the parties involved once a project has been awarded by an employer to a freelancer. Such commission is charged by the Site since it is through that users are able to meet and work on a project. Please send me an email to marcusc@freelancer.com with your username and project ID involved so I can take a look at your account and see if I can initiate a refund of fees. I look forward hearing from you.
