“A bank that serves you!”

Natechia d.
9/4/18

I have been an FNB client for almost 11 years. They have shown that your money is secondary to them. I have received remarkable service whether it is to open a personal or a business account. They are a complete package: their branches, online banking and app. The website is a breeze to use and the app is well designed and efficient. Walk into their branches where you are greeted and directed to the correct person. For traveling abroad, starting a business or even the accounting side of your business, can be done from the comfort of your home. This is an additional A+ for a small business owner such as myself. FNB assists you with free training on how to use their accounting software. From a foreigner's point of view, if you are thinking of emigratting to South Africa then this bank will be the most suited for you. It has an exceptional Forex department and the savings possibilities worth a look. This bank continues to better itself and it truly serves you!

“FNB should stop employing parrots”

I have been with FNB for many years, but it seems their service is getting worse by the day. Maybe they should start employing people with acctual knowledge and not teach a bunch of idiots which buttons to push and what lines to read. Asking them a question is like talking to a recorder, they just repeat the same lines.

I was living and working in Vietnam and my accounts were blocked unexpectedly and without notification. I had no access to funds and the only option I had left to survive was to suspend my business in Vietnam to gain access to my foreign capital investment. I tried by all means possible to get the situation resolved but I was too late to do anything more and I could not even buy a flight ticket to come back to South Africa. After suffering hardship for three weeks while I followed the process to suspend my business, I submitted a claim for the severe losses that occurred as a direct result of their negligence, FNB's attitude was to brush me aside and blaming the cause of the incident on me and refusing to take any responsibility. I have since returned to South Africa, submitted a complaint to the Banking Ombudsman and it has been 141 days since the incident without resolution. My accounts unblocked automatically when the new year started but FNB's dismissive stance continues. I was also inadvertently copied on an internal email that FNB conducted, indicating very poor consideration for me as their client and also the entire process of how the rejection of my claim was conjured up.

Im very disappointment with Ernest from Greenstone branch for lack of service. The reason I moved away from FNB. Even after the move, Im trying this whole week to settle a revolving loan. Went into the bank on Monday morning at 9am. They are closed as their generator is not working. Returned around 11am, discussed my request with Ernest to settle the loan and close the account - funds already transferred into the account. He told me to send a letter through to request which I did later around 2pm. Friday evening the loan is still not resolved and more fees are just being charged, as this is now running over month end. Five working days and it is still not settled and closed. On Thursday when I followed up with Ernest, i just received a response "Kindly note your request is with our loan team". Terrible service and I would not recommend FNB business banking.
Even though there is a settle option on my banking profile, it gives me an error every time I try, and deducts fees.

Today is day 13 trying to get my money from fnb. All I get is empty promises. Let alone that you kept my 1000 for a month knowing that I don't owe you but the car was fully paid 2021. I am struggling at home while you sleep with your tummies full. I swear I am canceling every business I have with FNB. I can't bank with the service provider that doesn't respect me. Thanks God my Std bank account still exists, I never Closed when shifted to the devil fnb. I am not going to follow you again myself now but I will make sure I tarnished you wherever I go. I will use all the chance I get. Yes you will pay my 1000 even after a year. Its mine not yours

Dear FNB Customer Service,

I hope this email finds you well, although I must express my extreme dissatisfaction with the level of service I have received from First National Bank (FNB). My experience has been nothing short of appalling, and I feel compelled to bring this matter to your immediate attention.

My ordeal began when my cellphone broke, rendering me unable to access my FNB banking app. Realizing the urgency of updating my contact number for OTP purposes, I promptly reached out to FNB for assistance. To my astonishment, the process of changing my contact number was only the tip of the iceberg.

The sheer inconvenience began when I discovered that, in order to sign into the app, a bank card number was required. In an era where technology has evolved significantly, and numerous banking institutions have adapted to modern conveniences, I found it absurd that FNB still relies on such outdated practices.

I must emphasize that I am an advocate of technology, and I have embraced the use of NFC functions within the app for my banking needs. However, to my disbelief, FNB seems unable or unwilling to facilitate access to the app without the reliance on a physical bank card. This is simply unacceptable in the year 2024, and I expected more from a reputed and ostensibly technologically advanced institution like FNB.

The situation has now escalated to the point where I find myself stranded in another country, unable to access my bank account due to FNB's outdated and inflexible approach. This is not just a matter of inconvenience; it is a critical issue that affects my ability to manage my finances, especially while being away from my home country.

Despite numerous attempts to communicate my predicament to FNB, I have been met with a concerning lack of empathy and urgency. It is disheartening to note that a company of FNB's stature appears indifferent to the challenges its customers face, particularly when they are in dire need of assistance.

I implore you to treat this matter with the urgency it deserves and take immediate steps to rectify the situation. I expect a swift and comprehensive resolution that aligns with the standards one would reasonably expect from a financial institution of FNB's standing. Additionally, I request regular updates on the progress of resolving this issue.

Failure to address this matter promptly will force me to escalate my complaint through relevant consumer protection channels and consider alternative banking options. I sincerely hope it does not come to that and that FNB can demonstrate its commitment to customer satisfaction by promptly resolving this matter.

I appreciate your immediate attention to this serious issue and anticipate a swift resolution.

What an amazing experience. I have never had a teller be so helpful and provide such amazing advice to clients. We saved R650.00 due to the good advice. Tellers should have the experience and knowledge Karen has.
Thanks Karen, please keep up the amazing work.

PART 1: Your account information is not save with FNB, or should I say Black Owned Businesses Account information are not safe with FNB. I am so disgusted, frustrated and sending a communication now to close my business and personal account with FNB, because I can't do this anymore. A client made a payment to me, and within 48 hours called FNB to reverse the payment. Shocking, FNB doesn't hire to the PoPI Act of South Africa anymore, because FNB loosely opened their mouth and started telling the client how much we have in our account, how we have insufficient funds in our account, etc. For Christ sake, what kind of Bank will do that? What kind of Bank tells another client who called to reversed a payment they made the amount in the account? Isn't that unprofessional, *********, foolish and stupid? What businesses do you have to tell this person our account balance? They provided you a court order, or any form of legal documents before sharing our account balance with them? We know this is not how you operate, but because this is a black own business, you choose to treat us anyway. Because normally what FNB does if someone calls for payment reversal, is that they will shared a form with the person to complete requesting the reversal of the payment, and after that the Bank will contact the account holder the payment went in regarding the reversal of the payment, which take few days to be done and clear this is how it's work, not telling the person that there's insufficient funds. I know this because someone from FNB told me this and said what FNB did wrong a even yesterday we had similar situation with Standard Bank, and Standard Bank did exactly what we said above, not telling the client how much we have in our account. FNB, I will be taking you guys to court, by telling someone who requested a payment reversal from my account how much money I have in my account and will spread this information all over. Watch me. PART 2: I can now confirm that FNB is disgusting, selfish and very wicked to black people. The worship the grounds, Indians, Whites and Colors walk on. My account and few employees account got frozen by FNB without any email, call or notification from them, like other Bank does. I however, still went ahead to call them and ask why my account was frozen, FNB told me they can't tell me why my account is frozen, all they can say is that there was a reported payment, and they are doing an Investigation. How stupid is that. How can you be doing an Investigation regarding a payment that came in my company's account, without my knowledge? Aren't you supposed to ask me regarding the payment, or let me know of the supposed reported payment in order for me to give you information from my side? They refused to tell me who reported the supposed payment, the amount, etc, but claiming they are investigating it. This is so dem foolish and crazy. Why can't you tell me the amount and why it was reported? What are you investigating excluding my side or the information I may have regarding the issue, or is it because I am a black woman, don't have right, or by default wrong? I spoke with a high level person at FNB and he confirmed that's absolutely wrong, unprofessional and ********* as FNB should immediately inform me of the person who reported the transaction, and the amount they reported giving me the opportunity to provided information regarding the payment.

Fnb are the worst crooks ever, they are crooks in suits and they are benefiting from the poor. 2 years ago i lost my job and my policies tried debiting my account but due to being unemployed the ended up lapsing and in all of that fnb was benefiting because every a policy returns unpaid they charged R115 plus service fee, when i got my job again after 6 months i owed fnb about R3000 mind you policies lapsed but in all of that fnb gained money. A week ago i had to bury a family member from my own pockets fnb is still gaining because some policies returned unpaid any yet fnb managed to gain about R560. What makes this worse is that its one of their funeral policy that returned unpaid after they tried to deduct money after the 25th after our agreed upon date is the 25th of every month unless it falls on a public holiday, their policy tried to debit 3 times when i never agreed that they could do that. All my debit orders i chose the 25th which is the day i get paid so that they could debit my account intantly, insted they do that later on, and when there is no money fnb gains R115? Why are we not told about those hidden fees when you open an account? R115 its not a hidden fee, its extortion. Instead of releaving your client's in times of need you extort them, instead of helping your clients, you sink them further... For those who are wealthy you are the best bank ever but for who are trying to make ends meet you are the destroyer, the extorter,

FNB High Priority Complaint reference *******NF.
Since my complaint, still waiting for an answer on the above reference number.
Totally useless, unfriendly, incompetent bank.
Liars claiming they care... not a chance, they only care about themselves.
During Covid, when most of us were suffering, they phone me to say my overdraft was going to be dropped from R100K for my business to R60K, just when you probably needed most. No paper work, nothing. They said that to help and be fair, they would drop it R 1700 per month, which was what 2 years? Well, it never stopped. To day is R *******.
Still NO communication, no notice, NOTHING.
That is why the reference. I went to the useless Woodbridge branch in Kempton Park to ask why they continue to drom my facilities, which I rarely use and they promised to let me know. Two days later I get a nasty, rude mail telling me basically because I am a delinquent with ALL my accounts, cards, loans etc. Which by the way is not true. Did not use overdraft basically for more that2 years, I don't have CC with FNB and never been late on the only loan I have of R 80K to buy a car.
So, still waiting them to check the issue and if a simple look to a simple business account takes over 2 weeks, God knows what will take to fix a complex one.
If you are in the banking field and interested, I am here for a new bank for my personal, business, home loan (never in arrears) and my will that are currently with FNB.
Useless liars.
