E trade is good for those who can't go in the market or it is safe for croud. Safe money and safe time
I have traded futures, options and equities with etrade. 2 weeks ago, I put in a trade on the app and the price hit the limit price and the open order was removed from my orders, meaning the order was executed and I should have had the position in my portfolio. However, the position was not there. No open order, no position, but the market was moving and the losses on the account was appearing on top of the screen. This lasted for a few minutes before the position appeared in my account and I closed the position. The same day it happened to me on etrade's regular website and I called etrade customer service. They connected me to the futures desk and i explained the situation. The agent told me that this probably happened because of a temporary issue and shouldn't happen frequently. I tried to explain again that it makes one hesitant about trading when there are system glitches. He said it shouldn't happen again and this part ended.
Last week on thursday evening, I placed a few orders and closed them because I don't like to sleep with the stress of an open position. Before going to bed at night, I checked all the open orders and current positions on the etrade app, as I do every day. Open orders in my futures account were blank and so was the positions tab. I went to bed. Next morning I woke up and when i looked at my phone, there was an open position in my account which was losing value. I closed the position immediately and called etrade. I was connected to futures desk again and explained the situation. I told them I had an issue with the app the week before as well. He asked me why I was trading on this app if I don't like it. I asked for a refund for the lost amount on this trade, the amount i lost because of the system glitch. Later, I was told they didn't find a system issue and they would not refundmy loss from this particular trade.
I always own up to my bad trades, however for this one I feel like etrade stole from me. I hope other people who have had similar issues come out and we can bring this to the attention of public.
Based on the phone call we just received [Despite repeated attempts to communicate via email, they insist on calling us.], we will be moving all our current investments away from ETrade, and we will find somewhere else to invest. We will be doing this due to lack of confidence. Allow me to illustrate.
We sent paperwork to change our account (from individual to Joint) in April. Late April we received an email that ETrade attempted to contact us via phone and didn't have the right number. I replied in less than 90 minutes with the correct number. I did not receive a call (that I recognized) or nor a voicemail identifying who is calling from a given number. Two weeks later I reached out again (via email). I receive no "out of the office" notification. I reiterated my issue and asked for assistance again. No reply. Two weeks later I AGAIN reached out. No OOTO, no reply. Another week, another email. Finally my wife picks up the phone because the caller ID actually says ETrade. We get a gentleman on the phone who tells us:
Jessica has been on maternity leave. Since when? How does she not have a backup? How is there not an automated reply? How does a company the size of ETrade have no processes in place? And how do they expect me to feel confident with them managing my money?
We are also told:
There is a backlog in paperwork
Ours will be processed in order it was received
ETrade can provide NO ESTIMATE whatsoever as to when the paperwork will be completed.
So, not only has it been MONTHS for paperwork to process, but ETrade is so disorganized that they cannot even give me an estimate of when that paperwork will be done. We have been waiting to move my 401k from a trust that is not earning any interest. So we have now lost 2+ months of interest, or something in the ballpark of $3-5k, and they can't tell me how much more I will lose by staying with ETrade. We are cutting our losses. Would not recommend for anyone.
Do not use Etrade. They screw deposits, untimely tax forms and general lack of caring. Use Schwab.
I personally will NEVER do business with E-trade again! It's funny because when I had hundreds of thousands of dollars in my portfolio I was the best thing since sliced bread. When I went to Las Vegas I prepaid foe my room on a third party website, when I checked out of the Venitian they charged me another $640 that I didn't authorize. I filed a claim with ETrade immediately. I was lied to multiple times, had my claim cancelled 60 days into it. ETrade decided that they filed the wrong type of dispute therefore I had to file a new claim and then they had the guts to tell me it could take up to 60-90 days longer. I was told by 1 rep that I needed to turn in my original receipt from the 3rd party company and after I turned it in then they could refund me the $640, that was a lie. On Sept 10th exactly 90 days after the first claim was filed they mailed me a letter advising me that they came to the conclusion that I authorized it, which I DID NOT approve. They said the merchant said I authorized it, again, I didn't. Although I am the customer and I had worked and fought for this adjustment they denied me. I always thought the customer was right, at least that is what I was taught and I have worked in customer service for over 30 years. NEVER EVER AGAIN WILL I TRUST E-TRADE WITH ANY INVESTMENT DOLLARS I HAVE. Now ir won't even let me upload the 2 receipts I have.
Sometimes it works amazingly, other times it really does not.
They're actually very responsive. I prefer them for my stock trading.
These guys are just the worst stock trading platform available.

My only wish is that they saw their banking + brokerage customers as "one" customer.
Have used etrade for the past 4 years. Great interface and user experience.
