Decent overall until you run into any kind of problems.
Then. If you manage to get anyone you never get a real answer. And if you do get an answer it doesn't do anything for you. The, after all that they just go silent.
Overall, not bad unless you need help with something.
I signed up for the free trial. I realized that I missed the 30 day cut off so I called them on day 32. I was told that my card was charged $750.00 for the business plan. I got nowhere with them. I could not talk to anyone. The one thing they were willing to do for me was to disable auto renewal so I would not get charged $750 the following year. Gee thanks! That helps. Over two months I sent multiple emails and received automated responses. BUT-- I disputed the charge with AMEX and just found out I won! Get this- AMEX gives a company 30 days to respond and if they don't respond, the consumer wins. Dropbox did not respond within 30 days... that is perfect. They got a taste of their own medicine! It took me two months but I got them! Never deal with these criminals! Never!
I am horribly disappointed in Drew Houston's company, Dropbox. They claim they provide "customer service" and that they offer "live business account customer service..." And neither is true. 9 out of 10 times, the telephone provides a recorded message that states they will return the call, or for faster service, to email them. We have done both, and after 24 hours, we are lucky to have an email response but a form-email, templated response that is ridiculous with the basic nature of questions posed. When you answer the questions, you will then wait another 24 hours, for yet another worthless response. We have been down for 5 days this time (last time for a week) with the same problem. We are done and seeking an immediate replacement for this poor service and poor product. I will be sharing with my network of thousands of small business owners the challenges I've been having and sharing whatever positive solution I find.
This is an amazing service that I use constantly! It's a sort of file-storage system. You get 2gig free, (but you can get additional free storage for referring friends). It has drag and drop capability, and even has apps for Android and iOS.
The best thing about it, is that you can choose a file, then send a link for someone to download it. This is really handy if you need to share large files that won't send by email. You can also share folders, although I do not like to do this, (my friend shoved a bunch of stuff in there that just ate up the space).
Trust me, once you start using it, you won't know how you did without it!
Moved over 30k files. They disappeared then contacted support. After long waits I got several canned responses that clearly showed they had not read my issue. Last communication was to inform me that my files had been deleted because thirty days had passed.
If you sign up for a 'free trial period' you will be hit with a £700 full year's subscription which they will refuse to refund. You wont even be able to talk to anyone, there.
It is clear that this happens to a lot of people but they clearly keep the system as it is because they net a lot of money from it.
I was on hold for 45 minutes and gave all information except my cc number. I was hung up on... I simply wanted to cancel my account and it has been a nightmare. Do NOT use this service
Customer Service by email only meaning it takes at least 4 hours for them to reply to even the most important issues (such as a security issue I had) So, Im meant to sit around for 4 hours waiting on a technician to get back to me? My files kept getting deleted and I was genuinely concerned about the security to my data, dropbox constantly send back templated responses telling me to check their help section out. Absolute joke, I will be cancelling once I get my data sorted.
There is no phone number if you have a question that is not answered in their troubleshooting section. Plus, if you write an email, they just respond with an automated email that sends you back to the troubleshooting section. Infuriating! I can't believe they expect folks to pay for this service. Who is a competitor to move our business to?
Having been a long-standing customer of Dropbox, since January 2015 as a Plus member, I decided to give Dropbox Business a trial.
I opted for the trial and to pay yearly (biggest mistake ever).
As a small business owner, you can often find yourself short on time and a month's trial quickly shot by and I was invoiced.
It was at this stage that I was trying to revert back to Plus and cancel the service as it simply didn't fit our requirements.
The problem was I didn't want to find myself having lost any of my data. When I finally had my data backed up I went to Dropbox to request a refund for the 11 months that I had not used.
After several emails, I was only refunded 50% of the total. I cannot believe that after 1 month of signing up ($71.96) - I am out of pocket $359.80.
Dropbox you have lost a loyal customer paying $180 a year, in fact, I feel sickened and robbed by a company I previously trusted.
Dropbox is terrible and it ruins everything. Please please please do not support its creators. It is garbage. Please heed my warning: dropbox will ruin everything.
Thank you for your time.
I use Dropbox as a back up for important files and and to send large data files to others I work with. I had no ideas that dropbox was duplicating everthing I sent on two of my computers. Dropbox used up all of my hard drive space and cost me over a thousand dollars in repairs and service fees and stress for crashing my office server. Bull $#*! ignorant assuming company!
My business had me sign up for a plus account and upon noticing that they had charged me an additional year I called and requesting cancellation / refund. It was not long after renewal and they refused to offer any support and had to pay for the additional year of service...
Apparently I have been charged for a service I barely used by Dropbox. There is no phone number. Chat sends you to a site that tells you to cancel on another device. I checked and I paid $10 five years ago and somehow this is a recurring billing. I would really avoid this company. GoogleDrive works much better for the same price. I have had it for years.
I used to love dropbox until I had a problem with my account and they did not respond to me. I think unless you are a corporate client you are going to get low customer service. Their prices compared to box.com are also extremely high.
I`m still not sure if its safe to store something in ANY of the cloud services, but this one seems ok to me. Atleast I didnt find anything wrong using it for 2 years. Not a premium(or how thats called?) user, just personal file storing, low amount of info
BeingI was offered a trial of business Dropbox. Being very busy I thought I would give it a go. Next thing over $800.00 was taken from my bank account by Dropbox with NO email or call asking if this is Ok or warning me. Of course they claim it is in the small print but they will NOT refund my money. That's it for me. I liked using Dropbox before but will never support a company that uses underhand ways of coning people in. A disgrace. They deserve to be charged and made to pay all the unsuspecting customers back in full.
Would you like to use a file hosting service that have a tendency of deleting your files? Then this is for you.
Across the Internet just before the approximate year 2012 or so, almost ALL links to dropbox files suddenly breaks and leads to error 404. This is not because the user purposely deleted them. This can be proven here:
https://smwc.me/******* (if it was deleted on purpose, it would've state the reason)
This is a disgrace, almost as bad as the recent photobucket disaster when they changed their TOS to require $399/year to display images off-site. Again, if the user of Dropbox is inactive, there is no way for that to be fixed unless someone else has a backup available. Use google drive instead.
How can they do this? A site designed for backup and sharing your files (legally), now trashed and gone for good.
EDIT: it happened on March 15,2017. They decided to remove public links and never admitted the reason why.
Couldn't get done what I intended to use Dropbox for on a business account due to all the glitches and confusing way it's designed, so I never really used it. Got a notice of a $799.50 charge that I didn't want and was unaware it would renew for full year when the norm using other apps is a monthly subscription.
This sting tactic although legal is unethical and bad business.
Taking that amount of money unannounced and on short notice at a time when it's needed for more pressing family maters is UNETHICAL! Their refund policy is nonexistent, as well as their customer service.
Buyer beware!
I used the basic plan free of charge to upload some files before some years and yesterday all of a sudden, they decided to charge me with 199 euro out of nowhere and their support can't find the transaction, as they don't have a transaction number and they can't even locate the account charged even after they were provided with a referral number and approval number too. So convenient for them. This company is a fraud, stay away and never give them any credit card details. Thank you for ruining this Christmas for me Dropbox, really if I had the time and money, I'd gladly proceed with legal actions against you!
Answer: TRUE THEY SCAMMED ME TOO!
Answer: SCAMMERS!
Answer: I hope there is a class action suit and I will join it.
Answer: Dropbox customer support will soft talk you into thinking they are helping to put a stop to their fraudulent charges, but in the end they actually do nothing. I don't believe they have an in-house system to stop credit card charges. There are many crooked companies that do business this same way as well. How many people don't read their credit card statement in full every month? And the dropbox folks rake in the fraudulent charges people don't catch. Call them, and they say "we're sorry" it won't happen again. I went through that three times and finally had to re-issue my card with a new number. Shown is a canned text statement below sent to people with billing problems: >"I will need all of the following information for security reasons and to locate the charge to assist you:"< > Card type First six digits of the card Last four digits of the card Full name on the credit card charged Date of charge Amount charged Billing postal code< "Dear Dropbox, If I spent the same amount of time, it takes to cancel a CC looking at the thousands of negative online reviews before I bought Dropbox I would be well ahead of the game. I added my negative review of dropbox to the many already online after I changed the CC number on my Visa, of course. And no, I will not give you any more cc numbers or names. Dropbox has a worldwide reputation of continuous charges once they get your number. Did you think I just fell off the turnip truck? LOL Goodbye Forever,"
Answer: I was unsuccessful as well. I ended up disputing the charge with my credit card. It is still being investigated. My wife was successful in getting a refund on a new account that she never used, within 7 days of paying. She is the only one I know of that has done that successfully.
Dropbox has a rating of 1.9 stars from 210 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Dropbox most frequently mention credit card, customer service and free trial. Dropbox ranks 109th among Online Storage sites.
