Recently had my checking account hacked so had to open new account and set up new payment methods.
Discover decided to cancel autopay without notifying me. Then reported me to all 4 credit agencies for missed payments totaling around $70. The whole time I thought that I was still set up for autopay. My credit score dropped over 100 points. Terrible business no responsibility to its customers. Completely fraudulent practices. Definitely don't use Discover.

Customer service
November 30, 2023

Customer service takes way too long (20 minutes) to even talk to you then you get transfered three times and it seems like they never have the info to help you.

I had discover for about 8 years and when I first got them, I loved them! But the longer your with them the more screwed you become. I had to use my discover in 2020 after I lost my job… just to be able to eat. And well they took full advantage of that and charged a ton of interest and then as interest rates rose, obviously so did my interest rate to a staggering 29%. I could barely afford the minimum and the interest literally made the minimum I was paying not even scratch the surface of what I owed. Basically my min was $182, and my interest was $178 each month… so it was going down… by like $4. I tried calling multiple times and saying I'm going through a hardship I need help, I can't pay this. They froze my account and lowered the min to $100 and the interest to $50 a month for 2 months…. Okay thanks that really helped me. Mind you, according to the pay off prediction it would take 30 years to pay off if I paid the minimum, why would 2 months at that rate do anything? You froze my account, just leave it like that for a least 6 months, a year? Like I have never been late ever and I have been a customer of theirs for years but because I got screwed over cause of a global pandemic and I needed to eat, I am now screwed… well I eventually got approved for a loan to consolidate my debt and get a lower interest rate and the bank that approved it took a while to approve it. So by the time the pay off amount came the pay off number that bank had was $30 more than paying off discover. The bank wouldn't let me change it cause it was what was approved so they told me to send it anyway… I then had a credit of $30. I called and asked for that credit back. They said you need to wait until the 25th for the new billing cycle (mind you this is the beginning of that month) well I waited! And guess what? My balance which was -$30 and THEY owed me… they charged me interest! $55 of interest! So now I owe them again! I called them and after being on hold forever while they figured out why this would happen and they were talking to their manager they said the manager will have to look at it and refund me this money and then I need to call back in 48 hours to then request my $30 check! You have my address you have my bank… why do I need to request something that should be automatic…. Well I am not sure if they will move this forward because they're saying that there justified in charging me the interest of $55 because from the 25th of the last month to the beginning of the next… when I paid it all off… I still had a balance so for a week in that billing cycle I had a balance, so that $55 is the back pay from when I still owed… like how crooked can that be! To be fair the people you talk to are super nice and understanding, I truly believe this is the higher ups at discover that don't care about their customers… well besides getting new ones. Thanks for screwing me discover…

Robbed by Discover Bank
October 26, 2023

Discover Bank robbery x2
Robbed me twice, courtesy of Discover Bank. Online accounts were hacked/compromised. Found unauthorized transactions on my checking debit card. Called & went through fraud protection, filed a police report, & asked for ALL of my accounts to be locked. This request was also recorded by Discover. 2 hours later an unauthorized transfer of 7k was taken from my savings account. Notified Discover, filed police report, etc. Discover now says they couldn't retrieve the UNAUTHORIZED transfer so tough s**t. Are they not FDIC insured as they claim? Is their online security so bad they cannot prevent this? Are their online reps so confused that my last call was transferred to (7) different people with no resolution? If you have any hope of KEEPING your hard earned money do NOT, repeat DO NOT, put it in any Discover Bank accounts! Please learn from experience, dont be a victim like Discover has made me!

I was sent an offer (preapproved) and decided to go with it, due to the perks the card offered. The application and activation were simple. 3 Days into having the card and only using it once for gas, I was sent an email stating I needed to provide additional verification. I was shocked and concerned that a banking institution failed to verify my information PRIOR to approving and sending me a card. I was told that I needed to complete a 4506-T from the IRS to prove my income, which is what I thought they did again, PRIOR to approving my card and amount. I completed the form as requested and was told until everything was confirmed, my new card would not be active. I was also told that I would be receiving communication from Discover regarding my status and if any additional information would be required. No problem, I was not in dire need of this card, just using it for the perks. Several weeks later, without ANY communication whatsoever, I receive a random email that my online protection has ended with Discover, due to a change in my card status. I call them and was passed over to the verification department, the agent immediately began reading her teleprompter stating my card as of yesterday had been canceled, this cancellation is permanent but I am welcome to REAPPLY with them. LMAOOO NOT ON YOUR LIFE DISCOVER. Why on earth would I put myself through such a daunting experience for something YOU solicited ME for? I am not dropping even 1 more point in my credit score for this lackluster service. There are far better cards out there, literally any one of them.

I operate in good faith and honest business. I wish Discover would do the same. I was scammed by a merchant and despite providing pages of proof and documented evidence of no "guaranteed refund" from the merchant and 6 hours over the phone they have yet to honor their legal obligation to protect me and protect my money. I have been battling a $450 charge for two months. Would you feel comfortable losing that much money to a fraudulent business and having your credit card company support the fraudulent business in two dispute cases? I would recommend another credit card company at this time based on my experience. With discover, you're not innocent until proven guilty. You're just screwed. I am scheduled to speak with a supervisor tomorrow but based on my experience to date, don't hold your breath putting your livelihood and finances into this company.

Discover Credit card
September 17, 2023

Have been extremely disappointed with Discover. I have never missed one single payment with them on time over 2 years. I added a big charge on a mechanical repair that was unavoidable. I made payment arrangements with them monthly for a specified amount, and paid more than what we agreed to. They in turn did not keep their agreement. Be wary of Discover they will reel you in and then cheat you

I freaked out
September 11, 2023

I was a beginner with about one year credit experience when I was approved for the Discover It card. I started reading all the reviews from people getting requests for a 4506-t while i was waiting for my card to show up in the mail. There was a rash of people getting 4506 requests or otherwise their cards would be cancelled. I had just paid about $1200 on my outstanding taxes about a year prior but still owed $130 which I was ignoring for some reason. My card showed up in the mail after 7 to 10 with a phone number attached to call for card activation. I called the activation line but told the agent to close out the card I wanted it cancelled and sorry about that. I told them I made a mistake and I didn't need the card. My score took a spectacular nosedive. Granted this was all was my fault but people should keep in mind you could be next.

I have an 805 Credit Score half 6 figures in the bank and in more than one account --and multiple properties. AND,,,,,,because I applied for a personal loan -(since economy has slowed some and business cash flow has slowed) AND did not want to tap my own funds (how I got there by the way) ---Discover says in a written letter that I am not credit worthy?-WHAT? ----I am a NEVER missed a payment guy -ever!,...not once. So it seems because I called and was not happy there was little response to my application --(wanted funds quick) -one of workers there made sure because I complained --that they would reject me. Total hit job! I am TOTALLY OVER QUALIFIED for ANY Loan with ANY BANK anywhere! ---I will NEVER EVER choose this company for ANYTHING EVER!--I followed a link from my Credit Report company that said I have an excellent chance for approval for this loan or card, (thx) and I got rejected from a cancel culture person for calling and making them get a supervisor on a weekend to ask ONE question. Please God help us all with this society of people that do not and avoid work altogether --we spoiled a whole generation of people that even when they are fortunate enough to get a job they do not work and push away good customers and good business --what fools! --Terrible company -totally disorganized --disgraceful. Never again.

I was a customer for more than 10 years when everything went well, when I paid my bills every month, until. One day when I was scammed, then Discover abandoned me. I called them right away as soon as I found out I was scammed. They told me they wouldn't do anything until it was posted. I told them if they didn't stop it right away, I would not pay. I had to dispute the charge when it showed up on my statement. They made a show that they did some "investigation", although they didn't tell me any result or finding, just that it was a legitimate charge and that I had to pay, even though I showed them lots of proofs that it was a scam. They did not respond to me and just send me bills every month. I cancelled their card.

I rented a car in Orlando from Rent a Car for Less. Did not have an issue until 6 weeks later when Rent a Car for Less sent me a pic of a cracked headlight (not the same Car color or model as I had) amd $1350.00 bill. Lots of reviews saying this is their illegal practice. Discover "started an investigation" then charged me the $1350.00 anyway. That will be the Last time their POS card is used.

If you get behind on your card and try to settle. They wont. All other cards that we had, we were able to settle with a debt settlement company. But discover sued us and garnished wages. Customer wouldn't help.

I am writing to express my concerns regarding the excessive amount of marketing materials I have been receiving from Discover Card encouraging me to apply for credit. I have become increasingly frustrated with the frequency and volume of these offers, which I find to be overwhelming and counterproductive.
The constant stream of marketing materials promoting credit card applications has reached a point where it has had the opposite effect on me. Instead of encouraging me to consider applying, it has actually dissuaded
The barrage of marketing materials, while likely well-intentioned, has created a perception of over-eagerness on the part of Discover Card. I kindly request that you reconsider the frequency and intensity of the marketing materials you people.
I hope you understand that my intention in writing this letter is not to criticize or demean your marketing efforts, but rather to offer constructive

Not only did I not receive 5% back in bonus rewards for my Google Pay purchase. Now Discover only gives 0.25% in purchases up to $3000. I thought we always got at least 1% back from Discover.
They didn't make me aware of this change. I have to remember to NOT USE Discover as I ALWAYS get 2% cash back with my Wells Fargo card.

In February, '23 I received a balance transfer special offer from Discover. It had been years since I had a Discover Card and decided to give it a try. I had a master card that I wanted to pay off, the timing was perfect. I called Discover when I received my new card, as they had not sent the promised balance transfer checks. I was told a check for my use would be mailed that day. When received, I wrote the check out and sent it off to my Master Card bank and it was received in April.
My May statement had the transaction on the statement. I was traveling when the statement came in and didn't think about it again until the bill came in June. There was a $164 of interest charged on the June bill! It showed I got a $4000 cash advance at 29,99% and not a balance transfer at "0".
I called Discover and was transferred to 6 different representatives and on the phone for over 90 minutes. I got all sorts of answers and was disconnected 2 times when I asked for a "supervisor". Finally on the third attempt to talk to a supervisor, I got through. "Susan in Salt Lake" told me that I had used the wrong check and that it was impossible to change a transaction from a "cash advance" to a "balance transfer", since the check determined that. Of course it was my fault for not reading the terms printed somewhere on the check and understanding that I was using the wrong type of check. I asked several times for a copy of the check and was told she could not send a blank one to me.
I also suggest that the practice of sending out the wrong type of check to unsuspecting customer was predatory and unfair. She said she would pass my opinion on. I suggested that they refund the start up charge and I would pay the interest and she would have nothing to do with it.
There was a $200 charge for the balance transfer and over $164 in interest charged for the 60 days. I had already paid off the balance transfer and cancelled the card with "Susan". Card cancelled. Worst customer service I have ever seen. Never do business with Discover they are very Deceptive!

I used to trust this company, though I never had many issues to show they would take care of the customer. I've been fighting with them for six months to dispute a charge for a Kirby. Originally they refunded me until Kirby finally came to pick up the item (five months after I requested them to) and they recharged me. Now for four months, I have been asking them to refund me since I no longer have the merchandise. They only will if Kirby authorizes it, doesn't that define why I need the dispute? This goes against the FTC's cooling-off rule. The company has their equipment and their money and Discover did everything they could to help them out. I can't wait to cancel this card after 15 years of business. You simply can't trust they will follow the rules. I will be submitting Discover to FTC.
