While I see a lot of bad reviews just straight-up blasting Crunchyroll, I want to shed a little light on the positives first. It's free to start, but premium is even better, relatively cheap and the wealth of shows is definitely a bright light in the dark when it comes to anime streaming. That said, let's get into the cons. The app on any console is trash. It's rarely updated, crashes constantly and when new episodes release on sundays it's typically down or buffers to infinity. I dig the platform, but if you really want to make your meal ticket(s) happy, fix the $#*!ing app. It's not much to ask.
The app has lots of options for animes but you only get a free couple of episodes before you have to pay. Aswell it is very glitchy and there are adds that take up lots of time.
If you are on the app, horrible. That is awful. I don't know if it's because I am an American, and getting this set of shows from overseas, but it is always crashing on the app, it is never consistent. Almost every time I watch a show it has to buffer and even when it does buffer it doesn't do anything. It is much worse when it is during the time periods of 8/7 central because every is watching TV at the time, but even when it's 2 AM when Americans are asleep, it doesn't work. It's not a good app. Everybody should say this thing it's horrible.
I don't normally leave reviews, but I just feel so frustrated. I've had issues with them from the time I created my account.
First of all, my account was charged when I tried to sign up for the free trial. However, I got an error message saying that my card did not go through. If it didn't go through, then how were you guys able to take the money from my account? I reached out to them via chat asking why I was charged even though I signed up for the 14-day free trial. They said that my card wasn't charged - even though I provided proof that the money was taken out of my account. They then said that they would escalate it. Fine.
I get an email from them the following day and they again reiterated that my card was not charged. But, they also added the 14-day free trial. I tried to get the Megafan trial, but they gave me a free trial for the Fan subscription. I reached out to them again asking them if they could change the free trial to the Megafan trial, and I attached my statement as proof to show that that was the trial I wanted. They then replied to my email saying that my card was not charged and that they already put the free trial DESPITE me already explaining to them that they put the wrong free trial! So again, I replied asking them to change the plan to the Megafan from the Fan.
This is utterly ridiculous. I shouldn't have to speak to multiple agents to resolve an issue (and as of right now, the issue STILL hasn't been resolved). As someone who has worked in a customer service call center for years, I know how important it is to have a resolution on the first interaction. So the fact that they failed to do this is very sad and frustrating.
Get your act together, Crunchyroll. Customers should not have to speak to multiple agents to resolve their issues, let alone a simple issue like mine. If it wasn't for my brother liking anime, I wouldn't even be dealing with you guys.
Ordered an item for grandchild. They said supply issues. Just looked now and said it arrived in August, that's a lie. Never sent.
I wanted to watch Attack on Titan and Dragon Ball Super on this service, because I wanted to watch them. On google it said it was "free" so I had high hopes, and god I was wrong. They say it's free, but in reality, you get about 20% free. For instance, you get about 30 episodes in Dragon Ball Super and season one of Attack on Titan, so I guess that was the "free things you get". Also, have the time Crunchyroll buggs out and you can't watch anything, or at least that's what's happening to me. I would like to say I have ATTEMPTED to watch a show, but I get an add every time the camera angle changes. You used to be able to actually WATCH a whole show, like Attack on Titan being COMPLETELY FREE for a while, with a few newer episodes being Premium Only, and then turning back into free, BUT NOW? Oh, I wish I didn't have to say this but EVERY EPISODE FROM SEASON 2 TO THE FINAL SEASON OF ATTACK ON TITAN IS PREMIUM ONLY! Use this if you like to waste 1 hour of time to try to get some worthless piece of garbage that is about as reactive as a blind snail to somehow work. In the finally I would like to say this, don't use Crunchyroll, but if you do, good for you because that means you paid $7.99 a month on a wacky, no good, useless, dumb service that can go do a belly flop 1000 feet up in the air onto rock hard concrete.
I would not recommend this company to anyone the app and the website in my opinion is garbage. The things you have to go through just to watch one show is ridiculous autoplay is a joke. There's no easy way to shut it off. My roku's absolutely hate Crunchyroll. It's the only app of having problems with. I don't recommend paying for this abuse. This is my opinion and only my opinion

The app never works properly and you can tell it's cheaply maintained and never updated! These people have no idea how to develop a streaming app!
I've ordered from Crunchyroll 3 years in a row for presents for nieces and nephews and am officially NEVER going to again. For context – I've ordered both streaming service subscriptions and merchandise. EVERY time there was an issue and here we are again: currently waiting for an order to ship that I purchased TWO WEEKS AGO!
EVERY time, my order has been late. EVERY time, I've reached out to customer service regarding my late order, never to hear back for at least a week after multiple follow up emails. It's absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. I will never, ever order anything from Crunchyroll again and encourage you to do the same.

I purchased over 200$ worth of Miku Figures that were IN STOCK 3 weeks ago. Website states in stock products ship within 5 business days. Finally I got an email stating the products have been "shipped" but only a shipping label has been created, I've waited 48 hours for update, still nothing. I was assured I was upgraded to 2 day shipping due to the long wait on shipping. Every time I've reached out to customer service I get vague responses, no real facts. I've filled report with BBB. This company has proved that they absolutely don't care about their customers, I wish I would've looked at the reviews first. Horrible reviews. I've asked for refunds prior to the shipping update and was ignored 3 times.
Ordered in-stock (and still in-stock as of writing this) Christmas gifts 30 days before Christmas and they have shown nothing but disregard for not only myself, but many, many others (as evidenced by all the negative posts about them this holiday). A week after ordering I was informed by them there would be some shipping delays. I waited another week before reaching out and was informed that my order would be put in a priority queue with Crunchyroll doing everything they could to ensure delivery by Dec. 23rd.
Then I heard nothing, so I reached out again and was just informed that my order would be shipped 2 day priority with no guarantee of a Christmas delivery attached. I reached back out to them once more to enquire about this and now they have gone silent. Seems that my kids will not be alone in not getting the gifts they wanted. I have canceled my membership because of this as I can not support a business that treats its customers like they mean so little to them.
This company is a scam. I have been trying for months to cancel a membership and the monthly charges and they claim that they haven't been charging me and cannot find a way to cancel the membership. It is an absolute scam. Do not purchase anything from them.
They won't reply to my emails and aren't providing a refund. So my order is in limbo and I'm out almost $100.
Their site states most orders will be sent within business days. I ordered three things that were all in stock on 11/25. They still not have been shipped even though "Troy" told me that he went to the warehouse and told them to prioritize it. It's going on 15 business days now and still nothing. I wish I had known about their reputation before I had ordered but hopefully this will stop someone else from making the same mistake. By the way, Troy couldn't even guarantee that I would get the items by Christmas, which is a whole month after I ordered them.
Company takes your order and gets their money, then they forget about you. Multiple attempts to make contact with no avail. Do not order merchandise from this website.
This store is a useless piece of garbage! You can't log in, you can't create an account, because if you create an account it doesnt exist. Processing takes "3 to 5 days". I have been waiting 16 days for something that was in stock! All they could say is black friday, black friday excuse after excuse. I would not, and never will order anything from this scam of a site. If it was a possibility i would have given a 1/16 of a star!
So I had some vintage Anime goods I got from Japan in the late 90s and early 2000s and decided to sell online and on Etsy. This company is going around reporting my listings for copyright infringement. Yeah, I know they license to stream certain Anime online and sell some goods but what gives them the right to banned others from reselling some things they own? They do not make the Anime, create them, made the merchandises or even close to that but they are going around doing this. Really? What a horrible company!
There is no way to pay except for creditcard. Ridiculous. The free trial costs 5 min every 20 min so you might as well divide your hourly wage by 4, thats the hourly cost to use the free version. I would gladly pay but the financial trap of the creditcard is the only way to pay. Pathetic. They hope people forget their subscription and they probably will. Conforming there evil actually works. This method is despicable i hope everyone at crunchyroll faces personal bankruptcy at one point in their life.
I had bought multiple figures from this site, and it worked out alright, though there was a small break with one that had a small, flimsy piece. It glued back just fine. Imagine, then, when I get a figure where nothing fits in its correct slot for assembly, my surprise as the head breaks immediately, right with the peg stuck inside so the break was uneven. The hair also broke as I tried to repair the head and put it back on. It's current a mess of pieces. Customer service did nothing but tell me to use glue and waste my time.
Answer: Crunchyroll engineered a scam. If you payed using paypal, you have to cancel through paypal. It's ridiculous.
