Horrible Customer Service
September 3, 2020

This isn't the first time I had a problem with their customer service. The last time was over a year ago when I asked a simple question about gift passes (never use them and was curious about how they were being offered) and received this nasty response from the agent. I didn't really care at the time. This time, it was about money so I'm more than a little annoyed.

My yearly pass was to be renewed but I received an email stating that the charge didn't go through. I figured it must be an expired card, went onto the site and could not find a way to recharge the bill. I contacted customer service with the issue and asked for help. The customer service agent gets back to me and says she has reset my account as she noticed an issue in the system. I was told to wait 24 hours before trying anything. I waited and now I could not add a card to the system no matter what I did. The system would give me errors ranging from "invalid card number" to "you cannot have a second free trial in a single billing cycle". So I reply to my ticket email and state the issues. I receive a reply that they are having issues charging cards and she has granted me 14 free days and to use this new link link. She then closes the ticket and I receive a survey email.

This is where the problems really start. The link is to the current pricing structure which is $20 higher than was I was supposed to be billed. Previously, I received an email from Crunchyroll stating that I would be grandfathered for my previous pricing. I explain this to the customer service rep and am told "well because your card wouldn't charge, you'll have to pay the new price" and she went on talking about how they never raised their prices in all these years (never mind the fact that the service was overpriced for most of those years based off of content and quality of service). I respond stating that I checked my card and it wasn't expired nor was there anything wrong with it. Basically, because their system screwed up, I now have to pay more. It's either that or this is by design to get you to pay the new price. In either case, sending out an email with a price structure and then changing it is fraud.

So at this point, I have yet to get a response and I probably won't. That leaves me with complaining to my state's government. I know that won't do anything for me personally, but at least it will put some notice out there. I can only hope that Sony does buy this company and do a restructuring as it is horrible. The streaming service is subpar for the price they were charging, and at the new price it isn't worth it. If they need that money so badly, how about working on your technical infrastructure and stop funding subpar stories and making them into shows?

Do NOT try this web site buyers BEWERE! They will steal money from u they are cheats!
January 11, 2016

This web site is no good it don't even deserve the one star I gave it.
There cheats and layers they stold money from me over drawn my back account.
I wanted to try this web site because they said they had the English version of an anime I want to see so I sighed up for the free trial because u can't see what they have until u do so. So I did it and when I tried to see if they had it but they did not have it at all! So right away I canceled my acct with then but when I Tried to do that an error message keep popping up and would not let me cancel the acct so I tried to contact Customer service there is no phone number btw all throw email witch takes them 3-5 to respond to you. I wrote an email told them what was going on and days later got a responds them telling me that everything is fine sorry for that and the acct is canceled and I won't be charge.
But no such thing was done because I got charged THREE times from them before then refunded my money and again told me that the acct was canceled and I won't get charged again also within thoes three times they caused an over draft fee my back had to fix that. So after all that u would think I was done dealing with CRUCHYROLL not at all to my Surprise I was charged AGAIN by them and AGAIN cause me to have an over draft fee. Had to go through the whole thing again through EMAIL! By the time they got back to my my acct was over drawn $50 and they only refuned me $6.95 and is refusing to fix what they done so I had to pay to fix the over draft because my bank fixed this problem once before. So I highly advisor you to stay away from CRUNCHYROLL they should be SHUT DOWN!

No customer service...
December 2, 2015

I started a premium trial the other day and I found myself wanting to e-mail Crunchyroll to ask them for more titles in certain genres, as they didn't have much of a selection. It's been years since I was last a paid member and they didn't have many new titles in the genres I like (which was quite surprising). So, I went to the Help/FAQ link at the bottom of the page. It went to a new support site with a bunch of questions and answers, and one on how to contact support directly. So, I clicked the link to contact support directly. It just reloaded the page I was on. Seriously. It did nothing but that. I tried this in two different web browsers, and even disabled my addons to be sure. Still, it was basically nonfunctional. It's lucky I was a paid subscriber in the past because I dug through my past e-mails and found a support e-mail from them, so I e-mailed that address, telling them about the issue. I got a very useless e-mail back from them about a day later, telling me that most people feel very positive about the new changes they've made (I don't know how they'd tell, if other people are having the same issue I'm having). The customer service rep didn't even ask me for browser details or anything, to try to troubleshoot the issue with their support website! It's like he didn't care! I was appalled. Who knows how many other people can't get through to support and it doesn't seem like it even matters to them. He did ask me for the titles/genres I'd like to see more from, but I wrote him back an e-mail telling him not to bother. If they don't even care that their support site doesn't work, I'm not going to be paying them every month for a subscription. I don't want to be caught up with apathetic customer service if something goes wrong with my billing. To all those wondering how to get through to them, the address I sent an e-mail to was: *******@crunchyroll.com and I got one back from them at *******@crunchyroll.zendesk.com. I didn't find this on their website anywhere, so I don't know how long they'll answer these. I just wanted to mention them just in case they continued to work and could help someone else. P.S. - The site says otherwise, but when you cancel your free trial membership, it's effective immediately. UPDATE: I contacted Zendesk and they verified the issue with the 'contact us' link on the Crunchyroll support site, however their own policies kept them from passing on that issue to someone in Crunchyroll. (Bravo...)

Tip for consumers:

Make sure you can succeed in contacting support *before* you need it! I tried their "support" website using several different web browsers, addons disabled, and it didn't work. You don't want to be without any way to contact them if something goes wrong!
