I enrolled in January and was told to pick a plan by 2/15/22. I went to pick a plan and my information would not properly input. I called to see what the problem was and I was told by a rep that I missed the deadline and now needed a "Qualifying Event" to enroll. I did not miss the 2/15/22 deadline as I am writing this on 2/14/22. I do not have a "Qualifying Event" and therefore cannot sign up. I am being told I will not have healthcare in the middle of a global health crisis even though I chose a plan prior to the deadline Covered California gave me. DO NOT GO THROUGH THEM. I would give negative stars if I could.
Never have I ever experienced a bigger joke in my life. Every person you talk to is clueless they contradict where your loved one can go for medical help, they also always say the NETWORK is down when you call for questions and concerns meanwhile while you or your loved one suffers. They should be shut down. Just because it's a lower cost insurance it shouldn't mean it's ok to treat people like cattle! Highly would not reccomend to ANYONE. Discrasfull, sadly people probably die while waiting on them for anwcers I'm not even joking I'd leave a negative star If I could...
They said I re enrolled for 2022 and that is a straight up lie! They sure collected those Federal premium assistance payments I bet!
Today is the last straw that made me write this review. I've never written a review, ever. Calling Covered California and talking to a CSR is like going to the Dentist and having a root canal. Between the two, I'll choose the latter. Covered California has the rudest, incompetent, and most abhorrent CSRs. You call the number and you will be on hold for eternity (that is before you get through the numerous recordings to find the right department to speak with! First CSR that answered the phone today told me that I am "unprofessional" and hung up on me because I was asking her what the point of submitting a form to be an authorized representative for if they will always require the customer to be present when I call for him regarding a situation. The second CSR was very pleasant and helpful in trying to help me create a login and password to access my brother's account. Or so I thought. I was on the phone with this rep for one hour and a half and then... phone disconnected! Seriously?! You would think, he spent that much time trying to help, and he would call me back to resolve the issue... no chance... unbelievable!
President Obama you are not helping low-income you are living check-to-check. What is this forcing citizens to get insurance and pay high fees when I can barely pay for rent and bills. President Obama you are pushing people like myself whose income is 800plus per month to fall below the safety net. I do not see how you are looking after people's health when insurance company can increase the cost anything they feel like. President Obama you can keep your Covered California and thank you for trying to make homeless or not afford to even buy food. NEGATIVE NEGATIVE NEGATIVE STAR
They asked you to report changes on your income and changes the government contribution making your portion cost higher. Then WHEN YOU REPORT A DECREASE IN INCOME, they do not alter anything! And leave you paying the same amount of premium with the lower income.
What is up with that?
People in the office have no idea what they are doing.
For over two months we were given the run around between them and MEDICAL not sure which one was worse!
Im trying to get coverage for myself since medi-ca doesn't cover for anything. I was on a back and forth basis with covered ca and honestly they do not get on the same page. Some said i was good to go others found a problem. Made me upload documents and nothing was getting done. I kept getting different information from everyone and i was just in this overwhelming cycle. It ended up turning out Im not eligible because of my work permit. According to them, DACA recipients isn't a "legal" status.
Honestly, we jump through a lot of hoops to just get DACA alone. And now this?
Trying to get insurance that i need. Im doing everything right and I can't even get decent health coverage without paying more than $350 alone? How can I afford that? How can many afford that, specially with the difficulties this pandemic left?…. So unfair. They keep saying medical can help you, but with them if you aren't basically living off the government, it makes you ineligible?
Im just so frustrated at the outcome of all of this. I pay taxes just like anyone, i work hard for barely making it month, it is super overwhelming that given the circumstances there isn't anything remotely available for DACA recipients.
So I Called to apply and continue my previous health Insurance apppucayion and I'm greeted with a lazy rude worker Who couldn't even help she's an idiot name is Natasha can't even help you guys are horrible making a complaint to The BBB
Hi Aldo, we sincerely apologize for any negative experience. Please send us a private message on Facebook or Twitter so we can help directly.
Covered California is a joke of an insurance company. You don't qualify for insurance help unless your already poor, like seriously poor. I submitted our information and knew we wouldn't get financial help but since we needed insurance and our jobs don't offer any we chose them. After submitting information we get several letters stating we make an absurd amount yearly, we don't make a lot for a couple, but we do decently okay. They pulled pay stubs that we haven't gotten in years or no longer have jobs at and they think we make $176,490.20 a year! We've never made $100K a year not even close! I've been on unemployment for almost a year, you think if we made that much I'd be off of unemployment. Not a hard concept to understand, they don't think about what they're putting in for you. They need to just stick to what is given to them, and take from your tax returns if they have questions. It's absurd that they aren't going by the information we gave them, they're taking what they think we still have incomes to. It's ridiculous and they need to do they're job better. What a F*ing joke. Not helpful at all, when you call to speak with someone they aren't helpful and don't speak English. They downloadable scans for documents aren't helpful either, since you can only choose from the menu they provide, one stating they need more information and the other menu that only lists whats available. Neither of them matched what I needed to submit. Next time we will look for a different company to get our insurance from. So lame.
SINCE THE AGENT FILLED OUT OUR FAMILY AGI WRONG WE NOW HAVE TO PAY BACK ALL THE ADVANCED PREMIUM TAX CREDIT WE GOT. WE NEVER GOT ASKED IF WE ONLY WANTED PART OF THE ADVANCED PREMIUM TAX CREDIT OR THE WHOLE THINGTHEY JUST DID IT. NEVER EXPLAINED THAT WHEN YOU GIVE THEM CHANGES YOU HAD TO TALK TO A PERSON. NOT JUST FAX YOUR CHANGES TO THEM. FOR THE MARKETPLACE TO DO NOTHING WITH THE INFORMATION. THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE SUCKS! NOW I OWE THE IRS $7293. 00 FOR WHICH WE DID EVEN GET THAT MUCH MEDICAL CARE FOR THE WHOLE YEAR FOR ALL OF US. WE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER OFF DOING NOTHING AND PAYING THE $285.00 TAX PENLTY FOR NOT HAVING INSURANCE.
How can CoveredCA (CC) called it "affordable care" when at year end when I got their 1095A? Unless your FPL income is over 400%, no matter what your income level is below 400%, at year end when you file the Federal Tax Return, the IRS took at least $300 tax out of you (if single). For me, they took $600, which I never thought I had to pay back the tax money when I am at below Federal Poverty Level.
In other words, when you signed up with CC, they give you the lowest price possible but they didn't tell you that you have to pay back (at least $300) out of your pocket for government premium tax credit! What a joke! So instead of paying $38/mo. For the lowest health care, it turned out that I had to pay $50/mo extra for tax credit at year end!? (Take a look at table 5 on form 8962, you'll see what I am talking about; and for people has over 400% FPL, they don't have to pay in anything!).
How can you call it "affordable care" when IRS take $600 out of your pocket to offset whatever they think we should have. What a rip-off IRS & CC are doing to poor people... We are already poor, now they want to tax more of us out of CC affordable care! Maybe I should take the suggestion of having no insurance and just pay the penalty.
If you have no other choice for health coverage, at least now you know "what's in it". Thank's a lot!
My wife required joint replacement surgery, both hips and one ankle. Done and covered in about 18 months. She's doing great! Six months after the fact, we got a bill for $55k and a "revised approval", from Covered Cal, denying the entire ankle surgery. Got that? Pre approved as necessary, then reviewed and denied. We had to fight for 6 months to prevent this government clusterf@#%.
I wish I could give zero stars. Covered ca sent me a letter in late Nov. Stating that they could not auto-enroll me for Jan/2021, stating they did not have enough info in regards to my employment. That had worked in my favor since my employment status had changed, & not for the better. I re-enrolled in mid Jan/2021 for a lower plan, one that I could afford, until I was back on me feet. Covered CA is now trying to STEAL $300 from me, someone who has no form of income, to pay for the month of Jan. The month that I was supposed to have no coverage, the month that I did not use any coverage, even when I got strep throat. I contacted them multiple times about this, 4 of their employees told me that I was fine & will be covered for Feb. But that I should contact Kaiser because are the the ones charging me the $300. Turns out Kaiser was not the issue & covered Ca re-enrolled me for Jan after stating that I was in fact, NOT eligible for auto-re-enrollment. Someone finally sent my issue up to management & I was told I would be contacted. I was NEVER contacted. 24hrs later, I received ONE email that said "we're sorry but your request has been denied, call customer service if you have any questions." I have the letter stating that I could not be auto enrolled in my possession but they refuse to acknowledge it. Their employees have zero idea what they are doing, their managers/supervisors are not helpful whatsoever & they are total thieves. What company that is supposed to provide AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE, lies & steals from people who don't have any money? COVERED CA does.
I despise Blue Shield of CA Covered California. Very few doctors accept Covered California because they pay insultingly low fees to doctors. I have 2 good doctors who accept this insurance and I feel ashamed that they lose money accepting me and my crap insurance. One doctor complains bitterly about it and I suspect I will be losing his services soon. Blue Shield of CA Covered Calif has collected over 100k in premiums for me over the years & paid out almost nothing. Now that I have a severe health issue, I am finding there are no good specialists who accept Covered California policies. I am paying high premiums yet paying out of pocket for almost everything. As a newly disabled person, I can't afford to pay out of pocket yet I must if I want care. Blue Shield must think doctors order MRIs just for fun. Why does Blue Shield have to approve a doctor ordered test? Why should doctors answer to pencil pushers? This prior authorization policy for anything that costs over $100 ishould be illegal. Doctors know what is medically necessary, insurance companies know what costs them money. The only one benefitting from Blue Shield insurance is their CEO who makes 3.6 million. I guess that is their reward for denying health care to people who are suffering and who truly need help. I need help so badly and no way is Blue Shield Covered California going to do anything except call necessary procedures investigational and deny healthcare. I don't blame doctors for refusing to be paid crap by Covered California policies. Seriously, my plumber and a/c repairman make more money than Blue Shield Coveref Calif pays my doctors. Get rid of insurance companies, they have ruined healthcare.
Trying to figure out how CC determines what's actually affordable for us plebs, so... I have been divorced for 3 years now and a month away from 62 yrs old. I purchased a condo (couldn't afford an actual house) with what money I was left with after the divorce so my mortgage is $2,000 a month (in California this is cheaper than rent, yes, seriously). So far I don't have a car payment but I will soon enough because my vehicle (Honda) has 147,000+ miles into it and not doing well. Continuing... auto insurance is about $450 a month. Home insurance is $250 a month. Utilities are roughly $200 a month. Gas to/from work is about $225 a month. So far that's $3,125 a month in expenses. Now keep in mind there's no mention of expenses for food here yet. State & federal taxes for me is 25%, removed from my pay check. After these lovely taxes my take home pay totals about $4,000 a month (give or take). Now, that leaves me with $875 a month for CC health insurance, food and other essentials but somehow Covered California thinks that I can afford $750 a month in health insurance. I know that others are worse off than I am but seriously how can you (corporate personal) in good conscience charge these outrageous rates to everyone and still consider them affordable? I attached only two of the "quotes" (they are a moving target once you actually press the button to sign up) which range from $649 (Kaiser) to over $1,000 (Blue Shield). This is very sad because my insurance (with my husband at the time) was only $289 a month (yes, total for both of us) in 2008. This current "affordable care act" and the (2) insurance companies (why only 2) are taking advantage of everyone :(
Share Zaker is the best representative in the world! She understood my situations! I have been with her for a few years now. I will not change.
I caled on January 28 to cancel my plan. I was granted cancelation. I asked if I would be charged next time. I was told no. I was not informed of the 14 day cancelation policy. Yes I know it's on the website, but I did not know that at the time of the cal. And if I was already on the phone wi a representative, shouldn't they have informed me of their policy?
Anyway, I called again today asking for a refund. But my case couldn't be resolved because according to them I did not explicitly state the date by which I wanted to cancel my plan when I called to cancel it. I think it's pretty obvious that when I call to cancel my plan, that means I want it canceled immediately? Why would I leave it up to the company to decide when I want to stop paying them? I was not informed that I should expect a charge in February because of the 14 day rule, and THEN afterwards would I cease to be charged.
They don't actually give a $#*! about keeping you insured. They just want your money. I wasted hundreds of dollars on insurance this month when I couldn't even use it anymore!
FYI: Here's why covered California is a scam and you can find out for yourself:
If you have one of the PPO Blue Shield plans, technically you should be able to go to anybody who excepts Blue Shield, right?
Well I have that and had an ear infection so I looked up an ENT that was part of Blue Shield and asked them if they took Blue Shield and I said yes but we DO NOT ACCEPT the covered California Blue Shield.
HUH?
What?
That's like having American Express prepaid and going to a store that excepts American Express but they're saying "oh we don't except the prepaid American Express".
What a forced upon you joke.
And to top it off when I researched for anybody who does accept covered Blue Shield covered California... it was the lower ghetto offices.
Not that more established higher quality ENT office is that one would like to go to of their choosing.
Because this is information that covered California does not want the public to know, they've deleted this post on Facebook and also blocking me from posting it again. For some reason they were under the Impression they could silence the truth. It's part of their deception plan And they will do everything they can to keep it a secret
On their YouTube channel they have disabled their comments, that alone should tell you something
These are just a few examples of how the scam works. Do your research!
It's a shame, force people to buy and pay
Fof a plan that no doctors accept.
Are we still living In A free country?
God bless Anerica
