City-Data.com Reviews Summary

The company, City-Data, has garnered mixed reviews, with users appreciating its informative content on various topics, particularly outside of politics. However, a significant concern revolves around the heavily moderated political forums, which many describe as dominated by extreme right-wing views and censorship. Users report frustrations with biased moderation, resulting in the suppression of dissenting opinions and a hostile environment for those with differing political beliefs. Overall, while the platform serves as a useful resource for relocation information, its political discourse is perceived as unwelcoming and unbalanced, leading to a decline in user satisfaction.

This is what I noticed repeatedly about City-Data:

If you're discussing politics, you can state just about anything you want, if your political thinking is to the right of center.

OTOH

If you're to the left of center in politics, your comments will not be appreciated.

I tried repeatedly to post verified negative information about Trump's relationship with Putin and each time it was deleted.

I also attempted to post information about the Alt-Right movement here within the US and how Trump has appointed Alt-Right propents as closest staff members, like Stephen Miller, Julia Hahn, and Steve Bannon.

Those posts also got deleted!

Anytime you post anything either anti-right or anti-Trump, expect to get banned.

I love city-data except for the barrage of right wing posters and the zero tolerance moderators who have a beef with anyone who isn't right wing

I figured I would participate in the (nonpolitical) forums on this website, since there is one about the area I live in, and I figured I could provide some helpful feedback. What I instead found was a lot of complaining about racial minorities and "radical liberals". When I, respectfully, argued against these attitudes, I was permanently banned almost immediately, based on the insane allegation that I was a previous user in disguise. When I made another account and tried to make a simple, respectful case against the ban, my IP address was banned forever. Never, in any of my posts, did I swear, use vulgar language, or use hateful insults. The only "offensive" thing that these snowflakes seem to think I did was to have a different opinion than them.

The kicker, and the reason why I am making this post, is that the moderator then went back through the posts I made about the place I live, praising the ethnic food and the local diversity in the population, and deleted them. Now, that thread has been edited to paint an artificially negative image of my neighborhood's racial diversity, which is absolutely infuriating.

Summary, this website is a front for right-wing cultists and power-tripping neo-nazi moderators. Stay away if you value intelligent discussion, freedom of speech, and diversity of opinion.

Juvenile forum
May 25, 2018

I found over time, that while good posters exist there, it is littered with people with little-to-no insight on most subject matter. And do some of these folks ever come out of their bedrooms? People lashing out for actually suggesting British royal weddings is big news. Really? No where else have I ever come across anyone who cares: I thought that was pretty well established in regards to the harping on the mainstream media's coverage being out-of-touch with what Americans care about. Weird threads down to, "What Are You Thinking About Right Now?" Wow- talk about a bunch of lifeless internet zombies. The sports forum has some weird threads as well: the absurd elementary comments: I mean c'mon guys, can we get some insight here beyond, "I hope my team wins the Super Bowl this year". "Jordan is better than Lebron... no he's not." Like a bunch of juvenile kids carrying pom poms. One month ago SCOTUS granted the states the right to legalize sports gambling. Monumental event that transcends just sports. Guess to date how many threads/comments it has warranted? ZERO. Zilch. None. Yet we get such juicy debate regarding why You Tube users always think refs cheated his/her favorite team. I rid of my account finally. I was losing brain cells every time I scoured the existing conversations.

Member forever?
May 20, 2018

Though C-D permits itself to ban members from the site. It does not have a straightforward mechanism which would allow a person to cancel their membership. I can understand that there are a number of reasons they would not want members flitting in and out on a whim, but they do not seem to allow a person to leave on even a now-and-forever basis.

Essentially you have to maneuver to get thrown out it seems.

The website's only good function is information about cities. The politics forum is riddled with biased moderators and complicit senior moderators. I was given a suspension for reposting a closed thread and was labeled a troll. When confronting the senior moderator of these actions, I was told the Terms of Service is not an encyclopedia. I stopped posting on the site. The website layout is not user friendly.

The moderaters banned me for signing up and giving an unfavorable opinion in one of my posts. The guy named "YAC' i guess has been around for almost two decades taking his anger for never getting laid out on people on this forum. It is more sad and pathetic than anything else. One Star!

Right-wing bias
April 26, 2018

Site is run by old Polish catholic fascists; mods are petty and vindictive; If you're an American who is used to basic principles of free speech and honest exchange of ideas, steer clear!

If you do spend time here, be prepared to deal with racist, sexist, or otherwise retrograde rants about the evils of liberalism. This is tolerated, in fact, encouraged. Don't expect any moderation of the outright hate that is the norm here.

That is, unless the mods disagree with your politics. If that's the case, be prepared to have your comments arbitrarily deleted, threads locked if they upset the mods' sensibilities, and infractions if you "hurt their feelings." "Trolling" is against the rules, and defined roughly as "upsetting the fat 75 year old Republican women who run the joint."

In short, be prepared to deal with being insulted repeatedly by conservatives, and then banned or given infractions for responding in-kind.

I would highly recommend you stay away from this message board unless you like conspiracy theories and mods that protect posters that lie and make up stuff on a daily basis. To say the mods are biased is not saying enough. Two mods in particular will target certain posters that tell the truth and protect the ones that post endless lies and conspiracy theories as if they are the truth. Their screen names are CaseyB and Ibginnie. Stay as far away from this message board as possible. Some of the notorious posters on the forum are BentBow, WaldoKitty and Dashrendar. If you attempt to prove them wrong you will either get suspended or kicked off the site entirely. You could get suspended for responding to a troll that you didn't even know was a troll. Free speech is discouraged unless you have the same beliefs and values of the mods and the crazy posters.

MY personal opinion, but City data appears shady and corrupt and their Mods appears to be biased and Ignorant. It APPEARS City Data only wants "fake data." My opinion, but kick backs for good reviews? I submitted my first review in a PROFESSIONAL manner of Fountain, Colorado and its declining subdivisions, mainly Countryside, that used to be a large planned Community. Evidently, "Fake Data," doesn't like being presented with the facts. They say a picture tells a thousand words. But don't take my word for it, drive around and see for yourself. (I-25/exit 128 to Countryside.

Feminazis galore
February 10, 2018

They only get a star because no stars wasnt an option. If you a man or a victim of sexual assault, do not participate in talks about sexual assault. Members will call you a rape fan and a rapist if you dont believe women or question an accuser or conviction. The mods allow this behavior with no real consequence. The inmates are running the asylum.

This website is a joke.
February 10, 2018

I looked at every name on every page of the sex offender registration you people put out, not one damn time did I see the name of the man that raped my 4y old. He's got more than one child rape case but with sites like this no would know what he is. I'm telling people that use this site for information stop don't waste your time or money they don't have it rite. People that pay for information about different types of things they do, if your trying to get the word out about a new business stay away from here. I'm the voice of my baby girl.

The site is fun, but the fun is taken away when you are banned for no reason and given no ability to ask why. Avoid this site.

Going and gone!
January 21, 2018
Updated review

I just checked myself out of the C-D asylum, too many trolls and idiots and biased mods that condone their behavior. After I was banned for "unknown" reasons and my posts were edited, it robbed me of enjoying the art of debate and compassionate conversation. Too bad, there is some occasional intelligent and empathetic conversations, I did enjoy it for a few years. Not any more, I'll leave it to the inmates to run the show.

Not worth the aggravation
May 24, 2017
Previous review

City-Data has a lot of helpful, thoughtful, regular posters, (I'll give them 2 stars for that) but they have a whole lot more a-holes. No matter what the subject, all too many times the conversation devolves into a political argument, it's tiring. When politics isn't enough to satisfy their blood lust, they'll go after other posters with insults or outrageous name calling or just plain stupid statements (of course saying something like this will get you kicked off C-D). I didn't see as much of a problem with moderators, I got flagged several times when going to battle with one of the town idiots, I guess they try, but if they kicked off everyone posting idiocy, there wouldn't be any left. If you were to believe much of what you read on there, and some of the extremist views, you'd be afraid to go out your door in the morning. I think, and I hope, it's just keyboard warriors taking advantage of their anonymity. If you want pleasant conversation, call a friend, but definitely stay away from C-D.

I will no longer post on city-data after this past week. I joined because it seemed like a good idea, but there are way to many keyboard warriors who take advantage of anonymity in order to insult others, and the moderators don't seem to mind. One moderator, BucFan, joins in and has contributed to ruining the Tampa Bay sub forum. Don't waste your time joining discussions on city-data.com

Chock full of hillbillies who consider every big city a cesspool. They constantly post threads about how horrible cities and everything they hate about cities (traffic, liberal policies, too many minorities, noise, taxes, etc.) Someone needs to tell these country bumpkins that it's called city data not country data. Nothing wrong with the country, but if you hate cities why go on a site called city data. Ironically many of the people posting are yokels who despise cities and everything about them.

I have been a member of City Data for many years, getting positive rating points for helping folks with their questions about Wyoming and Colorado. I posted a real estate add for 35 acres in Wyoming and a troll started ripping on my add about how worthless the land was and things that had no added value to my post. I reported the posts three times. The mods closed my posting and put me on probation for defending myself against this $#*!. I will no longer be using this site as it is obvious that they are biased and only support their own agendas. I hope everyone will boycott them.
