Small town with hard working people who are making a difference in their community everyday! Volunteers run events that welcome people from all over the State and the world.
This town has been thriving on the uniqueness of an small, historical town and small, family owned stores. Recently the Brownsville Times reported that the City Manager has encouraged a franchise, Dollar General, to build in town. That Store is a monstrosity. A chain. Totally opposite of the town's character. Apparently Scott McDowell, the City Manager does not feel it necessary to get anyone else's approval. He is a dictator! This Dollar General will put other local businesses OUT OF BUSINESS. Time to get a new City Manager and kick this one to the curb. Shame on you! This town will be ruined in a few years. Don't buy a home here. There is too much traffic as it is. Very controlling City Manager who cares nothing about the people here. We suspect that the City Manager and Mayor have been paid off by Dollar General to 'approve' this without input from residents and other business owners. Bribed. Often done around here. The famous Pioneer Park has been ruined by too many campers. The caretakers quit. City Maintenance staff is overwhelmed with clean up. Trash, human waste etc. Yet, they allow more camping for the upcoming Music Festival and Eclipse! Who is going to clean that mess up? Not the City Manager, or Mayor, or City Council. Even the Sheriffs office does not have enough allowed hours to patrol it. A lot of mismanagement all the way around. Horrible.

Town appears as a cute little town but if you move here your neighborhood will be overrun with 'tourists' that the City and Chamber invite in to make money for themselves. Pioneer picnic is a joke. No parking even at the Post Office for box holders. Joggers and bike racers clog residential streets so residents cannot use the street by their property. The City doesn't care one bit about the residents only tourists and making money. If you visit you will NOT find a parking place and will not find much else, either.
UPDATE- The City of Brownsville banned camping at the Pioneer Park because of vandalism. Even the Hired Caretakers quit.
BUT- The Mayor's daughter and her children are allowed to camp there over the Music Festival Weekend!
This town is so morally corrupt it is pathetic.
