I rented from this place last week and they paired me with a low rental, be aware of hidden fees. I was sent to a broken down rental place that charged me an additional $100 for mandatory insurance that I was never made aware of. First car was a piece of crap making horrible noise had to get into a second car, after the rental was over I was charged the additional $100. Carrental.com is only the middle man for these broken down rental places.
Beware of their policy. Read fine print. My flight was 2.5 hours late and they only hold car for 2 hours. I had to re-rent a car because they said they only hold car for 2 hours and apparently rented my car to someone else. Imagine travelling in this pandemic and having to pay for a car rental twice. Being in another country and they tell you if you want another car you must pay in full again.
Do not rent this company, I had a bad experience, the worst car rental company, I would never recommend anyone, do not fall into the trap
Made a reservation with Carrentals.com for Liberia Airport in Costa Rica. Upon arrival they said there was no cars available. Had to scramble to find another company to rent from at twice the price quoted. Never use this company!
Beware, a 60$ rental turned into $128. The company they booked for the rental (Priceless) wouldn't recognize my State Farm insurance policy or coverage under Visa and said that I needed to prove that I had $500,000 of liability coverage. They wouldn't even recognize the insurance that Car Rentals. Com offered. I do have $500,000 of liability coverage (on my semi). I watched 3 other customers promptly cancel their reservations only during the time (that I wasted) at the Priceless counter. 4 out of 4 people (including me) cancelled, and didn't follow through with their initial reservations, no one else actually rented a car during the time that I was there. I can't believe a big name company, such as Expedia, would allow themselves to to be associated with such a shoddy company as Car Rentals. Com. Now I'm fighting to get my refund. Car Rentals customer service number is disconnected and it is next to impossible to send them emails. What a racket!
Please Don't use these people. Certainly don't prepay for any rental. They will bait you with a vehicle and switch it out for something you can't use after receiving your funds. Rented a small vehicle and they switched it our for a truck at a higher price..
I rented a car through CarRentals in Toronto. When I went to pick up the car from a third party, they refused me the rental on my G2 license. I was taken in by complete surprise as this was not mentioned anywhere on my booking confirmation email nor the CarRentals website. Despite their fault, CarRentals refused to refund my amount of $200. Don't ever book from these people. They are fraudsters.
Booked trough the portal Car rentals a Economy car "pay at pick up". Car rentals confirmed "pay at pick up" and "pre-paid", even it was booked as "pay at pick up" only. Economy surely took it as pre paid, collected the money and refused to cancel because of a bookings error at car rentals. After long discussions Economy supposed to refund - 100USD but never did.
This is very bad business behavior on both sides. Car Rentals should have insisted with economy that there was a booking error on the car rentals side and the booking needs to be corrected to "Pay at pick up".
I strongly advise not to book through the car rentals portal and not to use Economy (no customer service, just money greed)
I rented a car with my debit card and they told me at the rental car place that I needed a credit card to get the car in which I didn't have one so I try to get in touch with carrentals.com and they told me I couldn't get a refund
I have booked a car for Naples, Italy and CarRentals offered a full cover called Collision Damage Plan which according to their description "Covers your rental car from collision damage, theft and vandalism". Subsequently, few days after returning the rented car the Rental company charged me about $300 for a light small scuff on the front bumper which I was expecting to be covered by CarRentals' Collision Damage Plan I have already paid for. I have tried to make a claim and then it turned out that this insurance covers only US territory so I was deceived by CarRentals to pay for insurance which is supposed to cover the rented car, but actually it does not.
Do not use carrentals.com for booking! Their cancelation policies are much stricter than the rental car companies. Customer support is useless. You're better off and safer just booking directly on the car rentals company site.
We booked our rental car in April for an August trip because of the shortage of rentals available. CarRental charged our credit card at the time. When we picked up the car from FOX they had no record of the $300+ deposit (although they had our name/reservation). We ended up paying over $700 for a rental car. The worst part is CarRental said they weren't responsible! All we want is the missing $300+ deposit that neither FOX or we have.
Upon arriving to the Milan airport there was a 15 minute drive to the car rental agency when we were led to believe it was at the airport. Once we arrived, we were told we needed an International driver's license or pay an additional $300 which was almost double the contract cost. No where on the contract does it mention this. The only mention of an International driver's license is for travelers with non Roman alphabet driver's licenses such as Arabic, Asian, etc.
BEWARE OF THIS SCAM.
DO NOT use this company. If you try to cancel a reservation even within a reasonable amount of time, they WILL NOT refund your money if you prepaid anything. AND... they are not up front about it. I had to dig deep to find this policy after I booked my car and then had to cancel. This is just about the most disgusting form of customer service I have ever seen. Go elsewhere... This company is sketchy.
I paid my rental reservation upfront, and didn't receive a car when I arrived. I used carrental.com to rent a FOX car. When I arrived, FOX wouldn't give the car saying they have a 2 rules. One I needed to have a debit card AND two I need to show my return flight itinerary. Wait, what? Why do you need to see my return flight? I haven't had to show that before hand, ever? So I said fine, I'll make it now. The sales person said NO, we need it to be a ROUND TRIP itinerary! Wait, what... why? So I'm f@#$%& at this point and starting to get upset! So I give him my "DEBIT CARD" which is from my stimulus card and it has $1000 on it. He says he can't use that... Wait, why? It says DEBIT on it!?
So long story short, I paid, got no car and they wouldn't refund me at all. I got ripped off $400. I'M NEVER USING THIS COMPANY, NOR FOX AGAIN!
They stole $443.00 out of my account! When I noticed what happened I contacted them and they said they would investigate the situation. Is been 2 weeks and they still have not contacted me. I am still trying to reach them. This is ridiculous!
I'm here right now in front of Rent a Car Vancouver at 1361 Robson Street, Vancouver, BC, waiting for a solution.
I rented a car on July 7, I got here to pick up my car, and... nothing, they don't have a car. I'm not kidding, they simply don't have a car.
Then the staff said that it was my fault because of special requirements in the contract. I didn't require any special requirements.
Then they tried to give me a compact car, I rented an SUV!
It was paid since July 7, today is July 31, and they don't have a plan B?
All in all, I've been waiting here for a couple of hours, and I'm going to be waiting for I don't know how long. I lost my trip already!
This service is a crap, they don't have logistics, they try to blame the customers when it's their fault! DON'T RECCOMEND TO ANYONE, I'LL NEVER COME BACK!
We rented a car through them, and upon arrival the rental company not only did not have our booking but had no cars available. I managed to get in touch with carrentals.com through their chat service (as otherwise it is only a 1-800 US number which doesn't work from other countries). They kept going around in circles, needing to confirm that they did infact have no booking and had no cars. But the consultant had such a terrible phone line they people could not hear her. I tried through my phone, same thing. Instead of getting on another line she just kept trying. Eventually she got the message that this was not working. Then she said she would make a plan. 4 people and a manager later, they did NOT help us get a new car and 2 WEEKS LATER I am still trying to get someone to tell me whats going on with my refund. I have had to follow up every other day to get anything to move. Now I am having to email each morning and try the chat service each afternoon. THIS IS NOT HOW YOU TREAT CUSTOMERS.
Do not rent through this company, rent directly from the rental agency you are looking for. This website allowed me to rent a car with a debit card, charging me $160. They did not inform me at purchase that the rental agency only accepts credit cards, then they refused to refund my debit card even after I was unable to receive any services. They have stolen money from me. They site their terms and conditions agreement that is buried in the website as an excuse for why they are able to charge debit cards even though the providers they work with don't accept them. Burying important information in terms and conditions is not an excuse for stealing money.
Where to start
Firstly the website is terrible i was trying to make a change to my rental and it would just take me back to the confirmation page of the original rental. I tried the chat bot which would just confirm again and tell me there are no agents available regardless of when i tried it.
I downloaded the app but the app would not load
I looked for a contact number, impossible to find
I tried cancelling on site and with the chat bot and it would just confirm my original reservation and take me in circles.
I finally was able to find a number in Google, support was helpful and nice but had no ability to change anything from their end.
Once we got to the rental place which was about as shady as it gets, they wanted to charge insane amount of hidden fees aprox 100€. Could've been more but decided to not take the car.
Apparently the insurance i bought from them somehow doesn't apply directly and I would have to pay 1200€ for a scratch and then have carrentals.com refund it which i trust absolutely 0%
I ended up not taking the car and still having to pay.
Never using rentalcars.com again. I strongly recommend staying away
Answer: Carrentals.com is a scam outfit. Never pay in advance. Read the fine print. I have been traveling and renting cars for 40 years and have never dealt with a more unprofessional or dishonest travel company.
Answer: Back in the days they were my favorite website, they were the best, I didn't use anything else. But not anymore, they just joined the scammers and become of of them.
Answer: Stupidity, because everything is so darn expensive in 2022 that it pushes unsuspecting victims over to the "promises promises" platforms, like CarRentals.com.
