They take your credit/debit card number as if it's for ease of paying the person who helps you. Then they take out a LOT of money supposedly for background checks on the people you choose. You don't get to choose where the background check is from or see if you can find a better price. Your money is gone. Well, I just sent a message to a woman and there went a bunch of my money. I've written repeatedly that she moved out of the area and was NEVERR GOING TO BE HELPING ME! So, no background check was needed nor ordered by me. I check the profile of a second person, knew that wasn't a match and now they ask me to review both women! Are you kidding me? I'm still disabled, sitting here in pain and not able to get around, I've got no help and now I've got less money. I will never look at their site again! I suggest you do the same.
The credit system is a rip off. You get charged 3 credits to apply for a job, and you get charged an extra credit to send a message. If you want to send a message after applying for a job you get charged 3 credits again.
You can't remove an application for a job if you applied by mistake, and they won't reimburse you. The whole system is set up to rip you off where ever possible!
You need to up your security on this sight and demand real background information that is verified by both the caregivers and those seeking to hire people. I have been contacted 5 times and all have been scammers. Please start requiring a background check to sign up and or at least confirm their identity in some way or form. It is ridiculous that all the people that contact you are frauds.
Sorry to hear about your experience! Feel free to email us the scammer's information so that we can send it to our Safety team for review. Our email address is careteam@care.com. Additionally, I suggest hiding your phone # from your profile, go to My Profile and Settings > Personal Information > Edit and uncheck the box where it says "Make my phone # visible to other Care.com members". I also encourage you to check out this article from the Safety Center on the site:
1 month does not mean 1 month when they are taking your payments. You have to cancel your "subscription" or they just keep taking your money.
Not as implied on the payment screen when you select 1 MONTH...
USE WITH CAUTION
*not recommended*
Hi Alison! All our subscription automatically renew until canceled and this is mentioned on the subscription and again on the confirmation page once you upgrade. We appreciate your feedback and we'll forward it to the right department.
OMG what a joke. If I could give -1000 stars I would. I first tried this service for a maid and got psycho maids corresponding with me... stopped that search. Five years later an LVN recommended I seek a Care Giver for my elderly father on Care.com. OMG this time the search was worse. Not one CN, not one LVN could I find. The only people I found were individuals with a few years experience and no education, no experience, no medical or care training... really? And yet the ad states qualified personnel. The moment I thought I was ready to set up an interview, I learned the gal was not certified at all like she said. This site is not governed and is full of shady characters. It makes me really sad that it is so dishonest for those that care for vulnerable children, those with needs, and the elderly. STAY AWAY! Omg they are bad and their customer service simply does not respond in professional manners. I can't believe they are still in business. And I can't believe any of their contractors can get a job the way they are unable to spell and write a note to an employer seeking to land an assignment. It's like they scraped the bottom of the barrel. So sad.
Thank you for being open and honest about your experience. We truly appreciate you taking time to let us know about your experience on the site. Even though we are a self service website, we expect and ask our members to provide information that are accurate and truthful, we're sorry if this was not your experience. We encourage our members to 'flag' any profiles that they think are violating our terms of use. You also have an option to leave a review on the caregiver's profile so any family that are interested in working with them can see. We're sorry again this happened.
They canceled my subscription the next day, called me to say they don't have to give a reason. Won't
Refund my money, won't give a reason why they canceled.
We're sorry to hear your account was terminated, William. As a membership-based online community, Care.com reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate a member's Care.com membership for any reason or no reason, with or without notice. If Care.com terminates your membership, we have no obligation to notify you of the reason, if any, for such termination. We'd be more than happy to look into the refund issue for you and see if you qualify for a refund. Please email us at careteam@care.com and one of member care representative can take a look. Thanks for understanding!
Having been a pet-sitter on my own for over 20 years, I made an account with Care.com. I applied for 15 jobs, got one response. After an interview, and feeling that I definitely had the job, I had a request for a background check by my potential client, which I approved. After about a week she replied that Care.com had said I REFUSED it! A total and complete LIE! So I looked up on my account how to do the background check, And I'd have to " upgrade"my account--$$$ and pay $59 for the background check. Which, my potential client said she was Also being charged for!---What a scam and rip-off! A background check only costs $20 in Pa, as I've had over a dozen done for elder care and working with children jobs... This company is a SCAM!---Do Not Recommend it, at all!
Hi Suzanne! When a family request a background on you, they are the one that's going to get charged and not you. We understand how it sometimes gets so confusing but as long as you accept their request correctly, you will not be charged for it. If it's not too late, we'd be more than happy to help you with this. Please email us at careteam@care.com so that we can take a look!
Honestly, for the price you pay per month, is it too much to ask that someone calls you back? I went through 6 candidates for a simple date night babysitter request and got zero replies --on 2 seperate occasions. I don't have time for this babysitter chase. I'm going back to Sittercity.com. I found much better candidates there.
See Below directly from care.com, after I tried to apply for a job as of 10/17/16, what crap! Before charging credits just to apply for jobs I applied to numerous jobs of which only 3 legit people hired me. Most did not respond and most that did were scammers or wanting something for nothing. I am not going to pay for something that will more then likely not have a return on investment on top of paying for background checks and the time it takes to update my profile and apply to jobs. I hate their new format cant go back and glance at the job details once you applied. I had to start copying the information from the potential clients profile in a draft email to save for reference if that person contacted me back. Once the potential client closes the req their post disappears so you have no idea of knowing the details and the amount they are willing to pay.

At Care.com we are always listening to feedback from our members in order to help us make improvements to our service and offerings. We received feedback over the years that the job application process can sometimes be cumbersome and overwhelming, for both those in search of jobs and for those who are seeking care.
As a result, we have recently changed the application process to assist in creating a better experience for both our caregivers and the families seeking care. With this change, jobs will now require credits to apply. It is a great way to show the family who is seeking care that you are serious about the position to which you are applying. In addition to purchasing job credits, we also offer a Premium Provider Membership that comes with several extra benefits including unlimited credits.
Most people complaining here need to remember that Care.com gives opportunity for people looking for job as the employers to find right place and person to work with. The site is well managed and the only downside is that everybody needs to pay in order to communicate with each other on monthly basis or per year subscription. Most people forgets that it works as a self advertising and all ads here or anywhere else are paid nothing is for free. You found your babysitter or caregiver or person to work for you be glad and cancel by calling it takes time but it can be done also on website itself, just select your preference settings in account to basic. I am Care.com user and I see not many responses all the time but yes you can find right person and there is a lots of info about people here, including paid background check, dont expect freebies for someone doing job for you.Of course Care.com cant be responsible for people showing up on the job who are not qualified or for most of families trying to slave people working for them with giving them more to do than can handle for same rate.So to all stop be cheap, all this work requires more responsibility's than your money can buy. This site is helping people to communicate in the world where there is no good jobs so work things out the right way and stop giving bad reviews for your careless behavior of forgetting to cancel your subscription after you found the job or you found right person to work for you.
We really appreciate your positive feedback, Slawek! Thanks for taking time to let us know about your experience in using the site. We wish you all the best!
Care.com misleads consumers and profits off of busy parents. A one-month subscription is actually an infinite subscription because buried in the fine print is language that allows the company to "automatically renew" the subscription every month thereafter. My credit card was charged around $40 every month for many months until I noticed the erroneous charge on a statement. As a busy working mother, I do not have the time or mental energy to comb through every charge every month; Care.com knows this and counts on it. Erroneously charging people who are looking for help is at the heart of their business model. Use community sites, church bulletins, or local avenues to find caregivers as much as you can instead of this predatory service.
Thanks for your feedback, Erin. Our auto-renewal feature offers our members an easy way to continue to enjoy our services without interruption. We openly disclose this feature before a member subscribes and grant the ability for members to cancel their subscription.
The company renewed automatically the subscription without explicitily saying it. Not only most of the nannies are not really avaiable.
Hi Silvia! All of our subscription automatically renew until canceled and this is mentioned on the subscription and again on the confirmation page once you upgrade. We appreciate your feedback and we'll forward it to the right department.
Don't use this site! This company charge you subscription and I emailed them to say I only wanted one month subscription and they renewed my subscription themselves even though I'd cancelled! Don't go near this site and don't sign up or you'll be charged month after month even when you cancel. Fraudsters!
We're sorry you're not aware of the auto renew feature on the site, Joanna! An email confirmation is sent when you successfully downgraded your account, if you received an email confirming cancellation but was still charged, please reach out to us via email at careteam@care.com and we'd be happy to look into this for you. Thanks!
Their response was I should have read the small print, which said they would continue to auto charge my credit card until I terminated my membership. Why you do that, when I paid a much larger fee to just having one month membership?. I terminated my membership, but they continued charging my card for damn near a year, despite my terminating Again and again. Afterward I would receive subsequent emails that attempted to offer me a six-month rate of just $50, if I would continue my membership offers I declined. Yet care.com continued gouging me for many months! Other than approximately five months of membership in that time, there was no charging that I ever authorized!
In July care.com stopped charging me by the month in favor of the rates of a six-month membership (though, of course, that is still with the unspoken caveat that care.com will continue to charge me every 6 months unless I cancel my membership. Worse yet, upon canceling my membership, care.com blocks me from the site and does not allow me to continue to use the full 6 months I already paid!
According to care.com, FAQ does not even offer any way for the members to remove their credit card information, so they can prevent the continued fraudulent billing! Run for your lives before you use this company!
Care.com expects potential sitters to pay them to just apply for jobs. They also sold my phone number to other scam artists. This is a scam backed by a host of scammers.
Care.com sucks here in Missouri. I have applied to many jobs and never hear a word back till this job where I got taken for. There needs to be a screening g system of these people or care.com should be liable for loss. There is no one to call and complain to and I've tried verifying my phone number with no success and when I contacted care.com they were no help. I am not happy with this sight at all and why should everything on here cost it's a total scam. It's not about helping families and care givers it is the ultimate dollar for the big shot of this websight. It's no good don't sign up.
This company is illegal. They really should be stopped by law enforcement.
I purchase a one time membership. They kept auto renewing my membership and charging my credit card without notifying me.
It was impossible to get through to a human being over the phone. They responded to my written inquiry stating that they don't issue a refund. I didn't authorize the payment to begin with, and I am not asking them to refund money that I agreed to pay them. They are a group of thieves. They really should be arrested. The whole service is a scam.
After being a member of care.com for over 6 years, I logged in the other day, as I do from time to time when I need to make extra money, and found I now need to pay so a family can view my application? Most of those going to care.com do not have much money to begin with and some depend on the extra jobs they get from care.com. Very disappointed they would treat their long time customers this way. I used to even recommend it to parents looking for sitters. I moved over to sittercity.com.
Subscription is very misleading, there is zero actual phone number or human to talk to, there is ZERO cancellation or refund practice, so if you make a mistake, you are stuck with it unless you dispute the charge with your bank or financial institution. Shady accounting practices with NO accountability abound! AVOID THIS SITE.
I'm a college student, and I signed up for care as a caregiver and tutor. After applying for one job, Care informed me that I would have to pay for a premium membership in order for the employer to VIEW my application. I am not going to pay $20/month for the *chance* to maybe score a job that pays $10-$15/hr.
A few days later, I was contacted via text by a potential employer who claimed to have found my profile on Care. They offered me a job caring for their 58-year-old sister with no disabilities. Odd, I thought. They only communicated through e-mails and texts which were abhorrently error-ridden, and they hired me without a face-to-face interview. When I tried to call, there was no answer. Just an automated TextNow voicemail. (Not even a real cell phone. Suspicious.) They then insisted on sending me a check for $3000 in order to make some purchases at the pharmacy and make a payment on a new apartment. I knew that I was dealing with a private employer and not a company, so I let some of the unprofessionalism slide. (A mistake.) The employer said the check was sent. A week later, I had not received it, and the employer informed me again that they would be sending the check that day.
By this point, I decided to trust my instincts, and I declined the position. A few days later, Care sent out an e-mail warning against scams like this. Luckily, I called it off in time to avoid falling victim of an online scam.
My main concern is this: how did the scammers get my contact information in the first place? Neither my e-mail nor my phone number is listed on my Care profile. This leads me to believe that Care is not as secure as they would have you think.
Note: a few days after being first contacted by the scammer, I received a text from another potential employer from Care. The text was formatted identically to the text from the first scammer, just with different names and salary amounts. I had told them that I could not accept the position as I had already accepted another. Looking back, I believe this may have been another scammer.
Answer: Hello, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they are currently investigating Care.com. This is important enough to me that they have scammed me out of 6 months of payments and I had to close my credit card for Fraud. If you have had a bad experience with Care.com, I would encourage you to file a complaint with BBB. If enough people complain, then they will take more serious action. Here is the website. It is a short process to submit a complaint. https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started
Answer: Steer clear from Care.com or what we prefer to call Care-aless. Com! They are only about profit for them. The site is for trollers that prey on innocent families. You'd be better off putting an ad in your local newspaper. Most local newspapers also have online readership too!
Answer: I am determined to shut this site down. I am contacting news programs, The Today Show, Good Morning America and any and all others. Shut them down!
Answer: I would be cautious. I hope she is not moving for the job, as that is NOT a good idea. I get text messages daily from people asking me to email them (often for a friend), or someone coming from out of town or whatever. I delete these right away. First of all, they should go through the regular website and email you. No one would hire anyone without first meeting them, checking references, etc. I am sitting at the home of someone I took with through the Care site. I first communicated via email, then set up a face to face and met the kids. If it seems too good to be true, it is. USE COMMON SENSE! Seriously, if you don't have common sense you really shouldn't be taking care of kids, pets or anyone else!
Answer: This is so sad! I have been on both sides as I have an assisted living home in Pensacola Florida. I used care.com to staff my home; awful. Then when I had myself on as a provider they suspended me for a 14 year old non viloent misdemeanor, and they did not even have my permission to check past 7. They want you to get crappy providers, the good ones are kicked off because once ya get a good one, you no longer need them. Cash cow corrupt company who makes rules up as they go along, I heard 20/20 is doing a special. I plan to contact them, as I am verifiably the best care coordinator hands down, extremely good with direct care. You will only ever be returned 1 month contact the Federal Trade Commission file a complaint that's what I did, the more problems the better the case against care, com
Answer: Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they have a big money backer and can screw people of their money and lack of customer service? They should be called, I don't care.com
Answer: If I were you I'd choose another site. Care.com is terrible.
Answer: Some of the clients are looking for cheap labor through the internet for housekeeping. I usually tell the person to call me back for interview finish. Then I would tell them that I am self-employed and they would need to file a 1099 for taxes to IRS.
Answer: Care.com is set up for parents that pay for the service... Parents can enroll for free and place and add. However, If they do not forward their credit card any messages from caregivers will have a blocked phone number. The babysitter cam also enroll for free and make a profile for her services. However if she does nor forward her credit card she can only apply to 8 jobs every 28 days and only the ads from parents that have paid for an account will be able to contact her. DO NOT respond to anyone contacting you on your phone that did not contact through Care.com first... This is always a scam... The message will look like this: I am moving to your area soon and need car for my son/daughter. Kindly respond to my email.(They are looking to scam you for money.)
Answer: Sitter city.com could help you. I have honestly had nothing but problems with care.com. They make up rules as they decide not how things are written and do not follow their own privacy policy. They feed on single moms and dads. As well as children providing for aging parents You can place an add on Craigslist as well, for free and your prospective employee provides their own background check as it can be a most recent one and obtained by themselves at 5 to 10 dollars
We are sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your experience with us. Feel free to email us at careteam@care.com and we'd be more than happy to review your account for you and look at those Background check charges you are referring to. We would never want you to pay for something you didn't request. Hope to hear from you soon, Carolyn!
