I joined Care.com almost a month ago, but have had absolutely zero response from any jobs I've applied for. I feel as if I've simply thrown my money down a black hole - that Care.com is apparently just a money pit rather than a service to help people find employment. When I first joined, it was not made clear that you have to upgrade in order to see responses to your applications, which to me is underhanded. It feels like Care.com is preying on anyone using the site to find employment or to find employees. In other words, it's a scam.
UPDATE: I have filed complaints with the FTC (FTC.gov), the Massachusetts Attorney General, several other online complaint sites like SiteJabber, and I have disputed the charges with my credit card company. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and anyone else I can think of in order to get the word out that Care.com is nothing but a scam/fraud and to help prevent others from getting ripped off like I did.
They do not update your information and just give excuses why they don't
I had a client who has a bipolar disorder, and because care.com allows all your clients to view all your other clients she was able to group text her complaint to everyone I service. I lost several clients because they didn't want to deal with the drama caused by this person. GIGANTIC SCAM WORST WEBSITE EVER! STAY AWAY
We're sorry this happened to you, Eric. Care seekers on the site does not have the ability to messages each other and their contact information are not visible to other potential employers. Please send us an email at careteam@care.com and we'd be more than happy to look into this for you.
After being with this company as a service provider they suddenly cancelled my account! No reason. I was paying them every month and had terrific luck and reviews. Then boom! I'm out! Funny thing is I'm getting calls from people I spoke with 3 months ago and my business has tripled! Guess I won you morons! Beware that they will cancel you for no good reason and without warning. I've filed two reports with different agencies regarding care.com. I have in writing that both state agencies are 'well aware of egregious activity on behalf of Care.com' HA! Keep it up you morons in Waltham.
We're so sorry you feel that way, Nina. As a membership-based online community, Care.com reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate a member's Care.com membership for any reason or no reason, with or without notice. We wish you all the best.
I signed up for one month to test this service out. I didn't find the home care candidates I was looking for and I was inundated with emails from all kinds of people looking for work. I canceled my membership almost immediately. 4 months later my husband noticed charges on our bank account from Care.com. When I contacted them and explained that I had canceled months ago and had not used the account they offered to refund one month of charges but refused to refund any of the other months even though the account hadn't been active in months. They are completely comfortable taking money from people who are already struggling trying to raise children. It is contradictory to what they say their business is about. I am out hundreds of dollars and they didn't help me find viable candidates for home childcare. What an awful experience.
I am very sorry to hear about your experience with our auto-renew subscription, Suzanna. We do our best to make the process of discontinuing your paid membership an easy one, but we welcome your feedback if you found that was not the case. We always send out confirmation email once you've successfully set your account to downgrade, if you still have the confirmation email from when you canceled your subscription, feel free to forward it to us via email at careteam@care.com so that we can review your account.
They expect you to buy pork rinds to apply for a job okay fine they tell you they're going to send your jobs in your area but I always find them on Kijiji and then when I click on care.com it says there is no jobs in my area it's sucks
I found someone named stephen pedro. Be careful with this person. He contacted me to clean his apartment and sent me a check in advance for my first week of work. He pays $500 but i received a check $2800. He wanted me to deposit and then he wants the rest of the money to send him in tx. ( david gybson) I reported this to the police Department. Check was fake. The company of the check is van wall equipment. Be careful with this kind of people.

After being on care.com building my reviews and working for people, having perfect reviews I get an email saying my account is CLOSED and no reason is given and they are quick to say they are not required to give a reason. I have no complaints or issues, quite the contrary I had several people contacting me about wanting my babysitting services. Most don't pan out but I see each one through just in case. I was shocked to find out that my account not only was closed but they would contact everyone who was in contact with me to tell them that they closed my account. The insinuation that I had done something wrong is pervasive and unacceptable. But don't take my word for it, google it; lots of paying customers have had their accounts closed with no refund and no reason. This company is a SCAM to take your money not to actually provide a service. The should be ashamed of themselves.
I singed up 2 years ago looking for business for my up and comeing cleaning company. THE ONLY people that Contact me are SCAMMERS. I STILL get them all the time. I just got one 5 mins ago text my phone and tell me that they are moveing into this house and want it cleaned before they get there, then proceed with some story about how someone is sick, and that's why. May sound like I'm heartless but I fell for the BS twice now. Luckly I'm smart and didn't do anything. But I had one women who was in a wheelchair disabled moveing from FL was going to pay me $300 a week. And she would mail me the checks. YEAH... OK. Then I had another one same kind of story from TX who wanted to know WHERE I LIVED and a bunch of personal of info. Anytime I tried to CALL no answear on both. But they where very isistant they needed check referances. But never once could pick up the phone or answear questions I asked via email. CARE.com is a JOKE. Don't fall for it don't trust ANYTHING on it.
Been on Care.com for over a year now for Dog sitting/boarding not one job did I get thru them. I contacted customer service to see why. When you apply for a job. A message pops up saying to upgrade for the recipient to respond."but they can still see the message without upgrading" B. S site
So glad I didn't upgrade $$ after reading these reviews.
I signed up for a 3 month reduced rate trial period and after the first month of full-price monthly payment I got online to discontinue the service completely (there was no obligation to use the service at all, past the trial period) and Care.com continued to bill me each month! Finally, they caused an overdraft in the account attached to their billing. After searching far and wide for a phone number (there is NOT one on their website), they DO NOT want you to call, they refunded the last month and nothing else! Not the overdraft or any of the previous 11 months they had charged!
The people you hire are all EXPECTING to get top dollar for babysitting (only $3.5 less then what I make in an hour)! While the sitters I met were nice, they were deluded to think they'd make what they were expecting (I live in a rural, blue-collar area), so the rates Care.com told them to get were unreasonable. Absolutely everything you do through that service is extra costs.
There customer service is deplorable and dishonest.

Not happy at all with this site. I got a year's membership and because I purchased a year all at once, as well as used a promo code, I did have a bit of a discount. Currently, I am trying to find a sitter for a date night or two. I posted a job and immediately reached out to a sitter (#1) through a message on the site, a week and a half later, still nothing. As soon as I posted the job, a thirty something (sitter #2) answered it via messages. We went back and forth in the system's messaging, called and text a bit. I interviewed her at my house. Not knowing how to take a post down, I had a couple of days of inquiries. A couple of them I saved on my favorites. Two days after the mentioned sitter (#2) spoke to us at our house, I contacted her and apologized for just then figuring out how to take a post down and had done so accordingly. She messages back on care.com "no prob". She had known she was sitting for us on Friday while she was at our house the previous Sunday. While in the middle of cooking dinner in advance for the kids, them getting off the bus and cleaning the house, she leaves a text (no message on the site and no phone call) that she's sorry, she can't make it because she was working. This was at 3:15, I saw it at 3:25 and she was scheduled to be at our house at 5 PM. Sitter #2 alone caused me to contact care.com. Of course, I can't get out of the year membership because of the iron clad, extremely wordy, contract I have with them. Then they responded with gas lighting, putting the blame on me while condescendingly posting articles to me about choosing a sitter. Things that I already had done. All weekend long I went back and forth with another woman (#3) and have gotten nowhere with her as well. She was one of the sitters that responded to my previous job posting. I turned her away because I thought I had a sure thing. I still thanked her and told her that maybe in the near future. In our messaging back and forth I found out that she's never even been to my little town. She suddenly had every excuse to not meet with us, even when we agreed to meet somewhere very public in broad daylight on a Sunday. I dropped that when I saw I was getting the run around. The latest last night is #4. I just sent her a brief message last night, haven't heard from her and doubt if I ever will.
Just don't do it. I'm horribly disappointed with care.com.
I apologize if you had a negative experience using the site, Charity. We can understand how frustrating that can be. We suggest leaving reviews on the caregivers profiles to let the any families that are interested in working with them know about your experience. With regard to your one year membership, please email us at careteam@care.com and we can see if there is anything we can do about switching your membership to a shorter one if that's what you'd like to do. Hope you a have a great day!
Don't waste your time. So regretful that I put out my precious personal information on line to a scam agency. Shameful.
Sorry to hear about your experience, Sherry! Feel free to email us the scammer's information so that we can forward it to our Safety Team for review. Our email address is careteam@care.com. I subscribed for one month and they continue to auto bill my card. I am cancelling my card to stop this and turning in a complaint to the attorney general of Texas's office along with a complaint to the BBB. I am not the only one this has happened to. Very misleading, why is the charge more for just the one month if it's going to auto bill you anyway and you are going to get more than one month? What a freaking scam!
Hi Cindi! We apologize you're not aware of the auto renewal feature on the site. Our auto-renewal feature offers our members an easy way to continue to enjoy our services without interruption. I have sent the following message to the care.com team. I am completely serious. ****I will be filing a law suit against this dangerous scam of a 'company!' BEWARE!****
"Your site has proven to be corrupt. My personal experience has been one of foreign frauds using the site as a way to traffic monies through the Walmart bill pay system. I have submitted a ticket and filed a local police report, but to no avail. Now my private phone number has been compromised and I was instructed by one of YOUR team members to have MY cell phone service to change MY cell phone number! SERIOUSLY?!?! THAT IS THE BEST THAT YOU CAN DO?!? I AM IN THE PROCESS OF REPORTING *****YOUR CARE.COM SITE AS A DANGEROUS AND FRAUDULENT SITE!***** ------A VERY UNSATISFIED & ANGRY CUSTOMER!----- PS: My RETAINED Attorney will be following up! Please Rest assured of this.

So sorry to hear you're unhappy with our service, Susan. You can email us anytime at careteam@care.com and one of our member care representative can assist you with your concern. Thanks!
Unable to get a response after I paid... Basically have no service for money that they won't return. It is a total scam. Beware!
It is ultimately the family' decision to reply to the applications they receive although we advise everyone to reply promptly to their messages, we're so sorry if this has not been your experience. I suggest applying to all jobs that interest you and send a follow up message if you dont hear anything back. I thought this article on the site might be helpful as well; http://tinyurl.com/zum4fvj. Hope this information helps!
It is a scam company. Once you enroll, you can't cancel you membership. They have been charging my credit card even after I cancelled my membership for a whole year. You can't talk to anyone there and they do not respond to emails
Hi Hanna! We apologize you're not aware of the auto renewal feature on the site. Our auto-renewal feature offers our members an easy way to continue to enjoy our services without interruption. Don't fall for this scam as I did. I quickly found out that you gotta keep paying money to possibly make money with care.com. Luckily I picked up on their trends right away and only lost out on $60 for a background check. I stayed up for hours applying for different jobs to only get no responses. People had looked at my profile within a few days, but I couldn't see who they were and later found out that in order to correspond, I have to purchase a subscription. Wow! Not even a two week trial period to try it out to see if it is worth it. Uhm... Care.com, I need to make money not throw it all away for the unknown,,,, Also, 2 months after I first signed up, those same jobs were still there many of which were one time jobs of which the date passed. I logged in today and all of those old jobs are still there, nothing new. Pay to view expired jobs...? My momma didn't raise no fool!
Hi there! We can understand how frustrating it can be to not hear back from the families you applied job to. We advise everyone to reply promptly to their messages and close any job posts that are no longer available, we're so sorry if this has not been your experience. I suggest applying to all jobs that interest you and send a follow up message if you dont hear anything back. I thought this article on the site might be helpful as well; http://tinyurl.com/zum4fvj. Best of luck to you!
Answer: Hello, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they are currently investigating Care.com. This is important enough to me that they have scammed me out of 6 months of payments and I had to close my credit card for Fraud. If you have had a bad experience with Care.com, I would encourage you to file a complaint with BBB. If enough people complain, then they will take more serious action. Here is the website. It is a short process to submit a complaint. https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started
Answer: Steer clear from Care.com or what we prefer to call Care-aless. Com! They are only about profit for them. The site is for trollers that prey on innocent families. You'd be better off putting an ad in your local newspaper. Most local newspapers also have online readership too!
Answer: I am determined to shut this site down. I am contacting news programs, The Today Show, Good Morning America and any and all others. Shut them down!
Answer: I would be cautious. I hope she is not moving for the job, as that is NOT a good idea. I get text messages daily from people asking me to email them (often for a friend), or someone coming from out of town or whatever. I delete these right away. First of all, they should go through the regular website and email you. No one would hire anyone without first meeting them, checking references, etc. I am sitting at the home of someone I took with through the Care site. I first communicated via email, then set up a face to face and met the kids. If it seems too good to be true, it is. USE COMMON SENSE! Seriously, if you don't have common sense you really shouldn't be taking care of kids, pets or anyone else!
Answer: This is so sad! I have been on both sides as I have an assisted living home in Pensacola Florida. I used care.com to staff my home; awful. Then when I had myself on as a provider they suspended me for a 14 year old non viloent misdemeanor, and they did not even have my permission to check past 7. They want you to get crappy providers, the good ones are kicked off because once ya get a good one, you no longer need them. Cash cow corrupt company who makes rules up as they go along, I heard 20/20 is doing a special. I plan to contact them, as I am verifiably the best care coordinator hands down, extremely good with direct care. You will only ever be returned 1 month contact the Federal Trade Commission file a complaint that's what I did, the more problems the better the case against care, com
Answer: Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they have a big money backer and can screw people of their money and lack of customer service? They should be called, I don't care.com
Answer: If I were you I'd choose another site. Care.com is terrible.
Answer: Some of the clients are looking for cheap labor through the internet for housekeeping. I usually tell the person to call me back for interview finish. Then I would tell them that I am self-employed and they would need to file a 1099 for taxes to IRS.
Answer: Care.com is set up for parents that pay for the service... Parents can enroll for free and place and add. However, If they do not forward their credit card any messages from caregivers will have a blocked phone number. The babysitter cam also enroll for free and make a profile for her services. However if she does nor forward her credit card she can only apply to 8 jobs every 28 days and only the ads from parents that have paid for an account will be able to contact her. DO NOT respond to anyone contacting you on your phone that did not contact through Care.com first... This is always a scam... The message will look like this: I am moving to your area soon and need car for my son/daughter. Kindly respond to my email.(They are looking to scam you for money.)
Answer: Sitter city.com could help you. I have honestly had nothing but problems with care.com. They make up rules as they decide not how things are written and do not follow their own privacy policy. They feed on single moms and dads. As well as children providing for aging parents You can place an add on Craigslist as well, for free and your prospective employee provides their own background check as it can be a most recent one and obtained by themselves at 5 to 10 dollars
Hope this information helps and please let us know if you have other questions or concern. Best of luck to you!
