I started using care.com a few weeks ago to search for nanny jobs. I then noticed the option to apply as a pet caregiver which is something I would love to do even more. However, I discovered I'd have to PAY in order to apply for a pet care job that I might not even get. It costs 4 credits (90 cent/credit) to apply and if I don't get the job I only get back 1 credit. It doesn't cost anything to apply for a nanny job, why does it cost for pet jobs? Second, the website navigation started out great and recently they changed it so you can only see one job at a time and you need to either accept or deny before moving on. It takes way longer to view jobs and is harder to navigate when I know specific things I'm looking for but I have to view one job at a time.
Was interested in learning more about Care.com. I called the 877 # and after waiting 56+ minutes someone FINALLY ANSWERED. (shame on me) once the person answered he was barely understandable and could not answer my questions. I asked to speak with a supervisor and he remarked that a supervisor was not available. He would need to email a supervisor and they may call me back. (?) I asked how to directly dial the care.com office in Waltham Massachusetts and was told that i would need to call back the same 877#. Needless to say i did not get my questions answered and am frustrated. It concerns me that a Massachusetts company cannot be reached by telephone directly. It also was of concern that the call center was in the Phillipines and they were unable to answer my questions and at times were difficult to understand. I was left without any resource to find out more.
Going into using care.com, I thought it would be a great way to find families who need babysitting care or pet care (which I preferred). Recently, they added this "great" feature in which all pet care applications require four credits to apply. Each credit costs $0.90, which isn't expensive, but I refuse to pay money to apply to a job. The reason I'm applying for a job is to get money, so why would I pay money for that? Backwards logic.
Then I thought, "well, I'll just contact them online and show my disapproval of this new development." There is no way to contact them from the US online, which made me even madder. That's not good customer service. To make matters worse, I called the customer service number, only to go through a series of automated voice responses and no real people! I'm so fed up with care.com and their "customer service"; don't plan on trying to find a job here unless you're willing to pay to find a job.
I recently started in Care.com as a house cleaner, I have received 2 permanent cleanings and have interviewed for another potential client, I don't pay anything extra, don't have a background check and don't pay to respond, people contact me through my email. I think this is a great way to meet potential clients.
I was suddenly booted off the site for absolutely no reason. The position I had posted was very popular for which I had many applicants. Though I was given a refund I still lost all the applicants contact info I had paid for. They refused to tell me why they rendered their decision but when I called in, the representative put me on hold and then came back on the line, appeared to be laughing and in amusement that I had the nerve to call in. I suspect they felt I was a predator but yet they had no proof of any ill intentions. They chose to terminate me just as a precautionary measure simply because I was a man. I'm a single dad and in a very difficult situation. I had hired applicants on two separate occasions and was very professional with them. I don't appreciate at all being discriminated against.
To cancel your gig with creepy. Care.com. Cancel the credit card you used, and get a new card issued. I will never ever go on this site again. You see jobs that are already past the date.Im sure the owners are rich off of us innocent folks thinking. Yea I will never be without work again. Ha and good bye to care.com I can't even give it a 1 star
Our agency has been with Care.com for over 3 years. We paid an annual fee of over $700.00. When a candidate would answer our job posting, the application that the candidate filled out would have no information retained. So, over the course of 6 months, we could not get any information about the prospective applicant. Instead of Care.com fixing the issue, even after 6 months, they immediately dropped our account!
Very disappointed with this company. Not only were the caregivers shown as within 5 miles of me (and they were not even close), but when I went to cancel my account and request a refund (after only using the site for 3 days), I was told that they do not offer refunds! What company doesn't back their product with a refund? Seems like care.com doesn't really care at all.
A lot of websites, including Care.com, send all kinds of alerts and notifications when there is activity with your account. They should use the same technology for billing so that it's clear that you are paying a monthly fee. Seems self-serving, vague and deceiving.
Care.com has an option available for families to rate a caregiver out of 5 stars and leave a review, but what about us caregivers reviewing and rating the families we work for? I have had some stories that I believe should be shared. Nothing horrible, but there are some things I am sure other caregivers would want to know before applying with or working with a family. I really think this should be an added feature. I mean, we have glassdoor for employees and former employees to leave reviews about certain companies they've worked for. I think care.com should have a version of the same within the site.
When you sign up, they will keep on billing you behind your back, hoping you won't notice the charges because they do NOT send an invoice or bill
Or notification of any kind! With anything you pay monthly you get a bill
Or alert that a withdrawal will
Be made, I. E your cellphone bill, credit cards ect... care.com does not do this! They want you to forget because think
About it who has time to remember to cancel such a insignificant website account?! They prey on that fact that is why they don't send any reminded or notification that you are being billed. Scammers and cheaters. What a Horrible dishonest policy & company!
I don't even know where to start but let's see I have been on care for 7 years I constantly update availability and apply to most jobs within 50 miles of me. I refuse to pay their price for a background check because I already paid for one and offer it freely to any potential employers. Here's the thing in 7 years of being on this site and multiple applications I have received 1 return message and I have been offered 1 job yes 1 job. I have gleaming references and a spotless background however everytime my private clients (not from care.com) try to leave me references they get a site error 401. I refuse to pay for a membership that will be absolutely useless to me and that's exactly what care.com is useless. This company should be shut down they are all about money if you don't pay them you don't work. I really wish someone would create a real/honest site for caregivers and put an end to care.com I DO NOT RECOMMEND
I paid for a background check which was pretty expensive to begin with way more then it used to be. My background check was fine and I still had mothers questioning if I was an ok person. The mothers and fathers on here are some of the most disrespectful and judge mental people I've met. They have hung up on me mid sentence, lied about how many kids I will be in charge of, told me I was hired only to let me go after a week because they "can't afford" a sitter but can afford 3 cars and private school. Most of the parents don't know a good sitter when they see one and end up hiring someone in high school with no experience rather then a nanny with 10 years of experience and a degree just because of the way the person looks. Most of the parents hiring will cut your hours because they don't want to pay for your services.
I put my wife on this site. She is lawyer from Costa Rica, with great credentials. Not one person responded. We did the $59 background check, even less. I call and called no one ever talks live another bad sign
DO NOT USE.
We are on urban care another scam
So I have been on care.com as both a seeker and a provider. Both are set up to steal your money. No guarantee that background checks are real, truthful, or up to date. As a seeker I needed to pay every time I chose a candidate profile or background check. I could never hire a baby sitter because "my matches" were never available when I needed them or they were far from me. As a provider it felt like I was applying to tons of jobs with out getting one responce. I am a Vet Tech and have 4 kids. (I think I am great at caring for pets and kids. But that is another story) the emails I got from care.com were for families that where NOwhere near me- needing services I didn't offer. Sooooooooooooo Frustrating!
I have been on care for almost a year. And I havent been hired for any job. And now I am charged 60$. And can't get my money back. I too have called to cancel my account. I also payed to participate with a background check but the application process was constantly blotchy and I had to start over multiple times without ever finishing. LOST MONEY THERE TOO...
ABSOLUTELY NO CUSTOMER SERVICE
ABSOLUTELY NO PROVIDER SERVICE
ALL SHOW NO RETURN.
WEBSITE IS DECEPTIVE AS TO WHAT IS OFFERED.:(
I havent even been using the site because it is useless. For me at least. Please someone give me a true and good response from care.com because
I've signed up 1 month membership with them and cancelled after 2 weeks ( I still paid 1 month membership fee). However, they keep charging my credit card even the membership was cancelled. Every few month their try to charge my credit card, when I called the customer service number they always said "We are sorry, we will take it off." but a couple of month late this will happen again. I do not trust this company, and will never use them again!
Sorry to hear about your experience, Yvonne. We would like to get to the bottom of this and figure out why you keep getting charged, please email us at careteam@care.com so that we could check for duplicate accounts which may have caused you getting charge multiple times. Hope to hear from you!
Today I was notified that a member/Sitter has been kicked off, and or had his membership taken away. Why you are- well let me tell you verbatim what Care.com emailed me today and I quote

So This after noon I find out as to why from the local news and here is the link: http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/general-news/*******/fbi-charges-santa-cruz-county-employee-with-possession-of-child-pornography
This 19 year old kid is in trouble for CHILD PORNOGRAPHY! Why aren't you telling people this Care.com??? As parents and people who use your site you need to should put your customers first. The parents you are trying to help find someone to entrust to watch their kids. We have the right to know why a sitter looses their membership if it is something this serious! You are a horrible company and I will be letting every single site and my city know what horrible people you truly are!
I've been an online shopper for years and this website is a joke. It was of no help and almost all wording misguides you. I was tricked into paying for a subscription with the promise of background checks, but it keeps asking you to "upgrade for that service". And no way to request a refund.
Answer: Hello, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they are currently investigating Care.com. This is important enough to me that they have scammed me out of 6 months of payments and I had to close my credit card for Fraud. If you have had a bad experience with Care.com, I would encourage you to file a complaint with BBB. If enough people complain, then they will take more serious action. Here is the website. It is a short process to submit a complaint. https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started
Answer: Steer clear from Care.com or what we prefer to call Care-aless. Com! They are only about profit for them. The site is for trollers that prey on innocent families. You'd be better off putting an ad in your local newspaper. Most local newspapers also have online readership too!
Answer: I am determined to shut this site down. I am contacting news programs, The Today Show, Good Morning America and any and all others. Shut them down!
Answer: This is so sad! I have been on both sides as I have an assisted living home in Pensacola Florida. I used care.com to staff my home; awful. Then when I had myself on as a provider they suspended me for a 14 year old non viloent misdemeanor, and they did not even have my permission to check past 7. They want you to get crappy providers, the good ones are kicked off because once ya get a good one, you no longer need them. Cash cow corrupt company who makes rules up as they go along, I heard 20/20 is doing a special. I plan to contact them, as I am verifiably the best care coordinator hands down, extremely good with direct care. You will only ever be returned 1 month contact the Federal Trade Commission file a complaint that's what I did, the more problems the better the case against care, com
Answer: I would be cautious. I hope she is not moving for the job, as that is NOT a good idea. I get text messages daily from people asking me to email them (often for a friend), or someone coming from out of town or whatever. I delete these right away. First of all, they should go through the regular website and email you. No one would hire anyone without first meeting them, checking references, etc. I am sitting at the home of someone I took with through the Care site. I first communicated via email, then set up a face to face and met the kids. If it seems too good to be true, it is. USE COMMON SENSE! Seriously, if you don't have common sense you really shouldn't be taking care of kids, pets or anyone else!
Answer: Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they have a big money backer and can screw people of their money and lack of customer service? They should be called, I don't care.com
Answer: If I were you I'd choose another site. Care.com is terrible.
Answer: Some of the clients are looking for cheap labor through the internet for housekeeping. I usually tell the person to call me back for interview finish. Then I would tell them that I am self-employed and they would need to file a 1099 for taxes to IRS.
Answer: Care.com is set up for parents that pay for the service... Parents can enroll for free and place and add. However, If they do not forward their credit card any messages from caregivers will have a blocked phone number. The babysitter cam also enroll for free and make a profile for her services. However if she does nor forward her credit card she can only apply to 8 jobs every 28 days and only the ads from parents that have paid for an account will be able to contact her. DO NOT respond to anyone contacting you on your phone that did not contact through Care.com first... This is always a scam... The message will look like this: I am moving to your area soon and need car for my son/daughter. Kindly respond to my email.(They are looking to scam you for money.)
Answer: Sitter city.com could help you. I have honestly had nothing but problems with care.com. They make up rules as they decide not how things are written and do not follow their own privacy policy. They feed on single moms and dads. As well as children providing for aging parents You can place an add on Craigslist as well, for free and your prospective employee provides their own background check as it can be a most recent one and obtained by themselves at 5 to 10 dollars
We're truly sorry for your frustrations, Gloria. Please email us at careteam@care.com and one of our member care representative will be able to assist you. We hope to hear from you soon!
