I have the same problem and have lost jobs from this.It is so ridicoulous.Care.com acts like they are bigbrother. It they are all in our business too much. I bet the News would just love to make story out of all these reviews and also start asking around it just totally sucks specially the carechat really come on... i cant leave numbers this is so lame.
Making your account is free but then nobody will ever know your'e looking for work unless you pay to apply or message them. Posters are only allowed 5 people to apply for a job so you feel rushed into paying money to message them. You never get your money back from the website and the minimum amount of money you have to spend is £9, even if its not a scam its expensive if u never get a job. You can't see peoples last names so you can't even search them on Facebook to tell them you're interested. I was getting very excited choosing my prices and telling people about myself only to find out I have to pay to look for a job. You can only view one job at a time and u have to say yes or no right away so if you only have a few tokens you must spend them if you could possibly want the job. Its a shame because it seemed like a really helpful website as i could reach people who need a pet sitter, dog walker or babysitter. If any disappointed customers need a pet of baby sitter in the Shropshire area feel free to message me do discuss rates. Thanks Tasmin Bloor
After realizing I couldn't post a job or message caregivers without paying, I attempted to sign up. After a ridiculous number of attempts I was left with a pending charge on my card but no upgrade. Customer service reps were very condescending, told me I was "confused by their website" and had entered my info incorrectly. Info that's stored in my phone and has been used for hundreds(thousands?) of other transactions? Would have been no big deal if they hadn't been so condescending in their responses...
Many potential caregiver profiles, all look good. Many of them have an answering rate of 100%, according to the website. Until you pay the monthly fee to be able to contact them. Almost nobody answers, and it turns out that most of the people with an answering rate of 100% have not even been online for months.
I have written more than 100 messages, looking for a nanny for the kids. Received 2 answers, of people that had found a family already. So after putting much money and effort in it, I can tell this website is an absolute scam.
They trick you with loads of potential sitters/ carers. Then you sign, pay & receive a minuscule amount of responses. Wasted a couple of wks w/a couple who never answered their phone for scheduled interviews or never responded w/ requested references. So got stuck bc of time limits. Ended up w/ a real loser who didn't show up & didn't follow any of Left instructions ( per neighbor & had to come home early). This site is bogus! No screening whatsoever. Might as well get someone's name from the telephone book.
I have to pay a monthly fee so people can respond to my messages -- and it censors my phone number and email address so they have no other way to contact me. What a scam.
I initially used this site for free, but subscribed when it wouldn't let me contact anyone. $60 for one month seemed steeped, but I needed a pet sitter.
Out of the 17 people I contacted, just two people responded. Either they fail to monitor people who don't even use their site anymore (to inflate their database), or the people don't really exist.
Cancelling the subscription was like looking for a needle in a haystack. It appears straightforward, but in the end, you are directed through customer service to cancel your subscription via Apple iTunes.
Even after cancelling, you are still part of their database because it is impossible to cancel your Care.com profile.
I found two lovely pet sitters, but one had nightmare stories about trying to get her money from Care.com, so I paid her directly in cash. When trying to exchange phone numbers with applicants, the site blocks numbers (allegedly for safety).
All in all, it seems very shady and dishonest. Would never recommend this company.
Nannies should be aware that this people are changing their policies. They can even cancel your account for having a misdemeanor something that they should have think before letting nannies create an account with them. Who might think that they would cancel your account for something that has happened 7 years ago? This people are rediculous.BE AWARE people! Many people don't recommend opening an account also because they are making policies extremely stupid
I believe this is a scam. You have to pay membership and background checks to be contacted for a job. There are no guarantees though. I need a job. I need to make money. It doesn't make sense to me that I have to pay to be connected to someone who will supposedly hire me. Be ware there are many other sites that will ask you for payment. ALL SCAMS!
90% of the caregivers in the pictures on care.com are scams, just to pull your legs to subscribe, then bam, once you subscribe and you tried to contact the caregivers, you will find them all only texting you, no real people, it looks like their employees just texting and emailing to give you the feeling they are real job seekers, but No, they are not. They are selling you the illusion. I found tens of caregivers in craigslist which is free and have real people who really are willing to work.
I was a bad kid and I broke the law a lot. Nothing violent or anything, but I do have a criminal record. Now I am 40 years old and I'm still being punished by people like care.com who have zero problem taking the $78 for the membership immediately, then they run a background check on paying members, then suspend the account because of a 20 year old criminal record. Be warned everyone, once you break the law, even if it isn't a violent crime, it will get you kicked off care.com because my kids are 7 and 10 and clearly my lack of discretion when I was a kid should affect their lives! I feel like Cerci from Game of Thrones on the walk of shame.
I originally signed up for this to find a caregiver for a terminally ill parent and ended up going in a different direction. However, several years later, I thought it would be a good way to find work for odd jobs for myself. MISTAKE! At first I tried using the site without paying and quickly realized there was no real way to get work without subscribing. So I went with one month as a trial. Again, MISTAKE! The only reply I got that was from a real potential employer was someone who was so insulting I couldn't believe they wasted the time to send me a nasty message. On top of that, I applied to many, many jobs and none came through. All that I got was phone calls and messages from scam artists posing as real jobs. They do a good job initially, which means you waste time responding. But then it becomes obvious what they're up to. Many people have this problem with the site. Finally, I got so frustrated, I just stopped using it because I need work, not a waste of time. Also, I had "unlimited" membership which means you can apply to as many jobs as you like. But there is a catch they don't tell you. Some jobs (pet sitting, for example) only allow so many submissions. So you can "apply" all you like, but those positions only "accept" a set number of applications (I was told five was the limit in this instance). So, really, while you can apply all you want, some positions just won't accept your application. That's a bait and switch to subscribers who think unlimited means unlimited. It would not surprise me if there isn't a class action suit for that at some point in the future. One top of it all, the site is actually very strange as far as navigation goes. It's not very intuitive and you'll waste time (and subscription $) until you figure it out.
My account was deleted for no reason. I emailed HR and they said they sent me an email (they did not) giving me 7 days to respond to them. They claim it was because of my background check. I am a CNA. I have a level ll background clearance and I've never had any problems ever before. I've never been in trouble for anything. I'm a military wife and I used Care.com to get clients in different towns depending on our duty station at that time. They are refusing to reactivate my account or even tell me what was on my background check. I have made life long friends from care.com and I've now lost clients because of this.
I made a profile a few days ago, after I saw the prices decided not to sign up but I was still contacted by someone needling babysitting
Is it a scam?
I was a member on care.com and sent tons of applications every day and maybe got 2 messages back. Almost every listing on there is a scammer and they are trying to kidnap you or steal your money. Care.com doesnt care about it's members at all
I was about to sign up for this. Arrived here to read reviews. Thanks for all the warnings. Membership charges are atrocious!
This is the poorest site for seeking care givers. It makes its money by charging unsuspecting members premiums by automatically renewing membership. So Beware and avoid as far as possible. They make it difficult to cancel premium membership so they can continue to charge you. Remember you have to write to them by email to cancel.
It's best not to become a premium member as the listings are so poor that it is a complete scam.
I just saw in my bank statement Care.com UK has been charging me £45 for the last 7 months even though I only signed up for one month! I'm trying to reach them- they have no UK contact no. Listed on the website. I got a UK contact number from a US representative but it goes to voice message! I will look into suing them
This is the very worst site on the internet right now. They charge you rediculious amounts of money to receive bad listings. There are so so so many unqualified sitters on this site, flakes that don't show etc. Also, you can't have an account that allows you to offer a service and look for a service. You have to have two seperate accounts getting charged two seperate fees. My prediction is Care.com is on its way out! Horrible site, don't use!
You have to pay to apply for jobs now. That's ridiculous. Before you could just boost for better vision in populated areas, but now I have to spend money I don't have to make money.
Answer: Hello, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they are currently investigating Care.com. This is important enough to me that they have scammed me out of 6 months of payments and I had to close my credit card for Fraud. If you have had a bad experience with Care.com, I would encourage you to file a complaint with BBB. If enough people complain, then they will take more serious action. Here is the website. It is a short process to submit a complaint. https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/get-started
Answer: Steer clear from Care.com or what we prefer to call Care-aless. Com! They are only about profit for them. The site is for trollers that prey on innocent families. You'd be better off putting an ad in your local newspaper. Most local newspapers also have online readership too!
Answer: I am determined to shut this site down. I am contacting news programs, The Today Show, Good Morning America and any and all others. Shut them down!
Answer: This is so sad! I have been on both sides as I have an assisted living home in Pensacola Florida. I used care.com to staff my home; awful. Then when I had myself on as a provider they suspended me for a 14 year old non viloent misdemeanor, and they did not even have my permission to check past 7. They want you to get crappy providers, the good ones are kicked off because once ya get a good one, you no longer need them. Cash cow corrupt company who makes rules up as they go along, I heard 20/20 is doing a special. I plan to contact them, as I am verifiably the best care coordinator hands down, extremely good with direct care. You will only ever be returned 1 month contact the Federal Trade Commission file a complaint that's what I did, the more problems the better the case against care, com
Answer: I would be cautious. I hope she is not moving for the job, as that is NOT a good idea. I get text messages daily from people asking me to email them (often for a friend), or someone coming from out of town or whatever. I delete these right away. First of all, they should go through the regular website and email you. No one would hire anyone without first meeting them, checking references, etc. I am sitting at the home of someone I took with through the Care site. I first communicated via email, then set up a face to face and met the kids. If it seems too good to be true, it is. USE COMMON SENSE! Seriously, if you don't have common sense you really shouldn't be taking care of kids, pets or anyone else!
Answer: Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe they have a big money backer and can screw people of their money and lack of customer service? They should be called, I don't care.com
Answer: If I were you I'd choose another site. Care.com is terrible.
Answer: Some of the clients are looking for cheap labor through the internet for housekeeping. I usually tell the person to call me back for interview finish. Then I would tell them that I am self-employed and they would need to file a 1099 for taxes to IRS.
Answer: Care.com is set up for parents that pay for the service... Parents can enroll for free and place and add. However, If they do not forward their credit card any messages from caregivers will have a blocked phone number. The babysitter cam also enroll for free and make a profile for her services. However if she does nor forward her credit card she can only apply to 8 jobs every 28 days and only the ads from parents that have paid for an account will be able to contact her. DO NOT respond to anyone contacting you on your phone that did not contact through Care.com first... This is always a scam... The message will look like this: I am moving to your area soon and need car for my son/daughter. Kindly respond to my email.(They are looking to scam you for money.)
Answer: Sitter city.com could help you. I have honestly had nothing but problems with care.com. They make up rules as they decide not how things are written and do not follow their own privacy policy. They feed on single moms and dads. As well as children providing for aging parents You can place an add on Craigslist as well, for free and your prospective employee provides their own background check as it can be a most recent one and obtained by themselves at 5 to 10 dollars
