I ordered a set of plants very early in the year that included a Black Beauty eggplant. The order was sent in two separate boxes a month apart, which is fine- the second box had tomato plants and they were sent at the right time for my zone.

The first box had the eggplant though. It arrived i. April, looking pretty rough. After following all the instructions and keeping it in a sunny window due to the weather, it continued to get worse until it died four days after arrival. The other two plants in the box, a basil and a mint, flourished in the same time and the same window.

I sent in a ticket about the eggplant and 10 days later had not received any response. Calling the number on the website also got no response. After a significant amount of time with no response I submitted a review. The review was supposedly accepted but has never shown on the website. In fact, the most recent review of those eggplants is from 3 years ago.

I bought the same variety of eggplant from a local nursery who started selling them about the same time I received the sickly one from Burpees. Those have both been far stronger from the beginning.

If they cared about our opinion they'd actually put some seeds in the packets. 13 tomato seeds - Three grew. Two fizzled out early. All my own seeds are strong & happy.

I ordered 6 live plants on 5/13/21, they were planned to ship on 5/17 due to the zone I live in. I received 5 of 6 plants in my order on 6/2/21. The cilantro and parsley were almost completely dead and the basil had been damaged with the biggest stalk broken in half. I called customer service on 6/3/21 to notify them of the error and need for a refund. They stated that I should send pictures online to their website and that they would issue the refund since they were having issues with their system. I called again Tuesday June 8th to get an update on the status of the refund and they said that they were still having issues with their system but I "should" be receiving an update on it within 2-3 weeks. I have already purchased replacement plants since mine were all dead. I asked to speak to a supervisor that refused to offer any type of credit toward another product and that there was nothing else they could do. I understand at times systems can go down but in this instance they refuse to provide a credit for another product or any clear indication of when my refund issue will be resolved.

This company is incompetent and I do not recommend ordering plants online to be shipped, they obviously don't know how to properly ship live plants or care if you receive them in good quality or not

So dissapointed
December 1, 2021

I have purchased my seeds and plants for burpee for 30 years, and my father did before me. It is with great disappointment that I find myself unable to continue to do so.
For the last 4 years I have purchased the heirloom tomato collection. The first year it was excellent. 6 plants, 4 varieties of heirloom plants, great flavors, healthy and productive.
The second year two of the plants were not heirlooms, instead they were Burpee Big Boy Hybrid tomatoes. A very nice tomato, but not what I ordered. They automatically sent me a coupon to allow me to get two free tomatoes the next year.
The next year I used that coupon, but still got two hybrid tomatoes. Hmm. Odd but I put it down to the coupon and went on with life.
In 2020 I received 6 tomatoes, 3 of which were Hybrids. Not Heirlooms. Not what I ordered or wanted. When I called to see what the deal was, I was told that Hybrids were Heirlooms. Clearly not true and very disappointing that they thought I was so stupid.
I won't be buying anything from Burpee anymore. I'll buy my plants at the local greenhouse, which, although they have a smaller selection, doesn't treat me like an idiot and fully appreciates my business. Should have been doing that all along.

I have been using Burpee seeds for decades, the last 2 years have been a disasterous waste of time, money and precious water.
Green beans, at best 1 out of 16 seeds germianted. The majority of the plants are stunted and not producing at all. There are some nice looking plants, but the yield is very low. They are supposed to be tender, stringless beans. They are stringless but fairly tough.
Tomatoes, I purchased beefsteak, I attached a photo of the tomatoes that grew. I think 1 plant could be a beefsteak, the rest are small and odd shaped. The yield on most plants range from zero to light.
Cabbage, same germination issues, and never developed a head, plants are stunted.
Cantaloupe, had 6 seeds that germianted, the plants are stunted and produced a grand total of 3 small melons.
Red and white onions, zero germination.
I am an experienced gardener, the seeds I have harvested myself have a high germination rate, growth rate, and production rate.
Before seeing the reviews I decided to give burpee another chance, hoping for a late crop which would be better than no crop.
These seeds have been a disaster as I usually able to process a couple years of food and still have plenty for other families.
If these seeds fail, I will not be purchasing seeds from burpee again. I put in a lot to time, back breaking work, money, and precious water into growing food, do not expect a well known seed company to be putting out garbage like they have been.

NOT happy
May 31, 2018

It took over 2 weeks just to send the plant and when I called to find out why I had not received it they did not have any explanation - just that it has not sent. And when it FINALLY came they were SO SMALL, NOT worth $10 and SOOOO DRY! I don't know if it will live. I will NOT order from Burpees again and removed my name from their mailing list!

I put the seeds in the ground as every year and the beans and parsnip were very slow to start and slow to grow - poor germination and poor seedling vigor. Carrots and various cabbages were good.

I ordered plants 6 weeks ago - never delivered, order never updated. Our planting season in central Florida begins in mid Feb.
I e-mailed customer service and it took them 5 days to get back to me claiming they were shipped - no one in customer service researched my complaint since the website stated my plants were never shipped! I then called customer service - no clue! A manager from shipping was supposed to get back to me - no call! Called customer service AGAIN - no clue! A manager from shipping was supposed to get back to me - second time no call! I waited a third day - still no call. This has been going on TEN DAYS without an answer! I called customer service AGAIN today - still no clue! I told them at this point I wanted a full refund - enough was enough! Customer service refused to give me a refund until they heard from shipping to confirm my order was not shipped. Ten minutes on the phone and nothing. I asked to speak to a manager. I was told AGAIN someone would call me back. I said that was not acceptable and wanted to speak to a manager right away. 20 minutes into my phone call and never spoke to a manager but FINALLY shipping confirmed that my order was never shipped and I got my refund. One of the worst customer service experience of any company I have dealt with: no sympathy, no empathy, not listening to the needs of the customer, not caring to make things right after all I have been thru, etc. I am a new customer and have spent hundreds of dollars this season. I will NEVER order from Burpee again after the way I was treated. Has this company grown too large and forgotten about customer service and care? What a shame!

I was looking for a certain garlic which Burpee said they had in stock. So I decided to order all my seeds from them. They charged me for everything right away but sent me less then half my order including no garlic. I waited a month still nothing. I called the company and was told the garlic was out of stock. I said well they charged my credit card for it and several other things and I have gotten no notification. I guy tells me they just discovered that day (which was a Sunday) that the garlic was out of stock. I said well you charged my credit card and told me it was in stock. He just kept telling me it was not their fault. I told him the only reason I ordered from them was because of the garlic that they said was in stock and they charged me for over a month ago. And I wanted someone to know I was not happy. She said well he could not do that because it was not the companies fault This went on for about 10 minutes I told him I was never buying from their company again and he again said but why its not our fault. I hung up and would have left it at that. Because I hate writing reviews. Well yesterday I decided to plant the corn seed I bought. I would have never known this but I bought a package of 200 corn seeds and would have normally planned in the ground but needed the corn early for an event I am holding and needed all 200 seeds. I bought 200 pots to plant them in. After I had planted 100 seeds I thought I'm not going to have enough seeds. Well sure enough there was only 170 seeds. I have to have the 200 and they need to be planted today to make sure I have the corn I need so now I have to run out and buy them somewhere else even though I bought them from Burpee. I would call them back but Im sure that is not their fault either. I didn't count the other seeds so I don't know if I got them or not. I suggest if you want what your order get it somewhere else. Since nothing is their fault

Very disappointed
April 21, 2021

I ordered 6 perennials on Feb 4th this year. Estimated time to process and ship the order was 2-3 weeks. After a month, I received an email that said orders were delayed and would be on the way shortly. The a month later, the beginning of April, I received another email that said they were really sorry, delays were unavoidable, but they were committed to getting ALL orders out by 4/20/2021. I called today, 4/21, to confirm that my order had shipped. Nope. Not only did it not ship, but the rep had zero idea what happened with my order. He had no explanation as to why it hadn't shipped. He couldn't tell me when it would ship. But he suggested canceling my original order and placing a new one. He would bill me, again, and give a refund for the first order. That refund would take 7-10 business days, but of course the charge for the new order would happen now. I said thanks but no thanks. I still would have had no idea when my plants would arrive. So I got off the phone. I checked my email and opened a brand new email from Burpees thanking me for placing a new order! To my chagrin he had not only cancelled my old order, but also took the liberty of PLACING A NEW ORDER AND BILL MY ON-RECORD CREDIT CARD WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION! ATTN Burpees management... that is fraud! Fortunately for me Visa has a robust fraud division. I hope you can explain better to the fraud investigator than you did to me. My family has been buying from Burpees since I was a kid. That came to a crashing end today.
