However, significant concerns arise regarding product quality inconsistencies, such as rusting components and assembly issues. Customer service frequently receives criticism for being unresponsive or unhelpful, particularly in handling returns and warranty claims. Overall, while some customers appreciate the cost-effectiveness and product performance, many express frustration with the lack of support and quality assurance, suggesting a need for improved service and quality control measures.

I wrote several emails and the response was wanting endless pictures. The frame of the derailleur was clearly tweaked and the chain fell off the cog on the arm of the derailleur which should be impossible. The bike was or seems to be solid but the drailleur is unadjustable. I told the reps at bikes direct that I had tried everthing in several emails and the last response was him trying to suggest adjustments and stating that the cable seemed loose. He is either not reading my emails or is just going through the motions. So after not getting response after several days I bought a new derailleur on amazon out of my own pocket and also bought a chain tool. Becuase I will be replacing the derail at my own cost. They seem to be a good place to buy a bike but you will not get any sort of customer service.

I recently purchased an electric bike from BikesDirect. I installed the bike per what little instructions were provided. When I tried calling the Bikes Direct helpline, I received a "Message full" notice and was asked to call back later. I emailed Bikes Direct about the electronics issue I am having with the bike and he replied with instructions on how the peddle needs to be put on counter clockwise. Huh? I've already ridden the bike but cannot get the electronics to work. They have sent me a couple of emails saying the bike doesn't work they responded they don't open the boxes and don't know about the bike. The suggested that I take it to a local bike shop to determine what's wrong. Lastly, I am not a one time customer. This is the third bike I have purchased from BikesDirect. Fortunately, on the other two I installed without incident. If you need help you won't get it. STAY AWAY!

I bought a Raleigh Talus 4 and when i got it and hopped on the rear derailleur got caught in the spoke some how and got dystroyed i then emailed the company and they refused to return it. I then took it to my local bike shop and they said it needed a new derailleur and hanger. I then emailed the company again and they once again refused to even give me the part number if i could i would give this company 0 stars because it is absurd that they can't even give the customers a part number. Please for the sake of yourself DO NOT BUY FROM THIS WEBSITE if magically you bike does work and you need help settling it up just go with a local bike shop who cares if some specs are better at least the bike shop is there to help you tune your bike and get everything up and running Hope This review will help

Best customer service
April 29, 2020

I purchased three bicycles from Bikesdirect. They offer a great value for the money, but I was most particularly impressed with the after purchase customer service. The third bike had some shipping damage. Larry offered me a generous solution that involved a partial refund for cosmetic damage and immediate shipping of parts that had fallen out of the box as well as asking if that was okay with me. I was most particularly impressed with the speed of email responses and the speed of the refund processing and parts shipment. In a world of online ordering, these things sometimes take too long, but Bikesdirect is right on top of taking care of customers. Similarly my pre-purchase questions were answered promptly.

The bikes are nice if you get one with no problems. I bought the Wendy Dawes bike for myself a few years back and love it so I decided to buy my teenage daughter the same one. I took it to a local reputable bike shop for assembly because I didn't want to deal with having to put it together and wanted to make sure that it was safe. I received a call from the bike shop informing me that there are 2 parts that are defective and needs to be replaced and will cost $174 to replace. I immediately contacted customer service and was told that the bike shop was wrong and that there is nothing wrong with the bike. They then go on to tell me that the bike shop is just trying to get me to return the bike so I will buy from them. Are you freaking kidding me? What kind of response is that? They then send me some videos on how to repair the bike myself. I don't have the tools nor the time! I then request to speak to someone else. I get a phone call from a man claiming that he is the CEO of the company and basically tells me the same thing good ol Larry the bike buy tells me. No resolution to my issue other than them offering to send me a prepaid mailing label to send it back. Oh. And if you didn't keep the original box to ship it back in then they will deduct 10% from your refund.

I took my Fixed gear Kilo TT pro for the maiden voyage today... I was all smiles. What a wonderful product. Thank you so much. It was lacking a spacer so the headset was wobbly until I went to a LBS and remedied the problem. The fork has a threadless 1 inch steerer tube so it can be a pain to find. Or I could have cut the fork tube too I guess. A small detail in the grand scheme of things, nothing a youtube video or your LBS can't fix. Still a 5-star in my book cause of all the value you get... The bike is night and day compared to my previous Steel fixie. Thank you guys! I will buy from you all again.

I am a first time bike owner and was excited to own my first bike but I had such a BAD experience with this company that I wanted to write this to warn everyone about their practices. Model: Dawes Eclipse City, purchased on April 2nd.

Long story ahead: TLDR;
(1) Do not recommend if you are not a professional bike assembler. IT is not safe for you to assemble it yourself.
(2) Poor quality - multiple things broken
(3) Website advertises how easy and cheap it is to get it ready, NOT true. It has costs me probably an additional $100 and (still counting) 10 hours+ to assemble and de-assemble it to return this. Unfortunately they want EVERYTHING in original packing and stored the same way. I need to pay for shipping & who knows how much they'll refund me. At this point, I'm praying I can get my original amount back given all the hassle.

List of Issues:
1. The website stated my bike was for 5'8-5'11. Me being 5'11 I chose this size to be safe, but the post was way too high that I could not see anyone shorter than my height even getting on the bike! I had to go all the way to Home Depot buy a hacksaw to cut it shorter for myself. Given that I already spent 6 hours on the bike, I was tired and just wanted the company to reimburse me for this. It took 4-5 back and forths just to get them to reimburse $10 for me to get the hacksaw.

2. Upon getting on the bike, my chain slipped and it was so dangerous! I almost fell off the bike on the road. I asked a friend about this and they said none of the pre-assembled parts were ready and this is unacceptable from a safety standpoint.

3. The spoke guard broke after 2nd time of riding it. I only noticed since I heard a clacking noise as I was riding it. There is no way it would break unless there was something wrong with the bike given that it is brand new. At this point, I just want to return it and get a refund.

I am DONE dealing with the hassle. I will update this review based on what bikesdirect says. I can only deal with them via email since they have no phone number for customer support.

Absolutely horrible
April 10, 2020

I ordered a bike from here at a good price. I don't know anything about bikes so the one thing I didn't want to do was have to assemble a bunch of parts. The website said the bike would be delivered "90% assembled." If I was going by these idiots 90%, I could have passed college sitting on my $#*!.

There are NO WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS that come with the bike. The company instead makes you watch generic videos on bike assembly recorded on an old IPhone by a bunch of random people in their garage. None of the videos are specific to the bike you order. It took me over two hours to assemble the "90% assembled" bike. The website says you can have a bike shop assemble it for $50-$100, which completely negates any savings you get by buying from this company.

I am very disappointed and these guys are running a scam. I'd never buy anything from them again.

I purchased a Motobecane Mulekick Carbon Fiber. Very high quality bike--frame, components and cockpit were amazing for the price. Wheels were lower end but are functional (typical for most bikes unless you're spending $$$) and I replaced the saddle with something to my liking. Shipping was super fast. Bike was packed very well. Final assembly was super easy--most everything was dialed in. Spent just a few minutes on each derailleur and had to install the front caliper. I had a few follow up questions regarding replacement bits for future use. Larry in support was super responsive and tracked down the small parts I needed. Highly recommended.

My bike came with a few parts missing.

I emailed their customer service with pictures, and they responded swiftly. Larry, the service representative, created the new shipping label for the missing parts was created within 15 minutes.

Even though accidents happen, I am very happy with how BikesDirect's customer support, and Larry in particular, handled it.

I would definitely do business with BikesDirect again, purely because I have the safe of mind knowing that they put the customer first.

Superb customer service
February 4, 2020

Just wanted to thank the folks at bikes direct and especially Larry for their excellent product and even better customer service. My bikes were delivered on time and in excellent condition, but with 1 slight flaw, front tire inner tube would not inflate. I contacted customer service via email and received a reply from Larry within 15 minutes! He apologized for inconvenience and informed me new tube on the way! Well done, definitely recommend bikes direct for your purchase.

Gravity fat bike...
February 1, 2020

So I've had my Gravity Bullseye fat bike a few weeks and absolutely love it. Fast shipping. Easy final assembly. My first time ordering from BikesDirect and my first fat bike. I did alot of research before choosing BD and happy I did. So after quite a few hours on a variety of terrain (mostly snow here in Vermont) it handles great and I have zero complaints. Today for instance I was on a trail packed full of ruts from hikers and snowmobiles. It easily rolled along with 8 psi in tires. Very sharp looking as well. Looks even better in person. If you're wondering about sizing, I went with an 18" frame and I'm 5'9". Fits fine for me. The standover is about 29". If you're hesitating, don't. Just buy one. Great, fun bike.

We have ordered 3 bikes from bikes direct. Each one has been amazing and you cannot beat the price! Shipping is very fast. Even better is the after purchase support. We had a small issue from shipping and Larry was able to correct the issue very fast. He responded to us same day and correct the issues before the end of the evening. Amazing!

And that the 3 bikes I have ordered over the past couple years arrive safely, in a timely manner and super well packaged. I love the follow up with your well qualified employees. This is the second bike I have purchased from BikesDirect. They helped guide me through the process for the size and type of bike I was looking for. They said it would take 8-10 days for shipping. Got it in 2 days. My new fat bike is an excellent ride for the winter conditions here.
