Buried the turtle so no picture. Not the least bit trustworthy. NEVER again will I use this site. I had the same experience years ago and two of four turtles were dead.

Shop Elsewhere I ordered a lizard on a Wednesday and paid $50 for overnight shipping, expecting it by Friday. Only after checkout did I see it wouldn't arrive until the following Tuesday. Since we were going on vacation, I emailed immediately and was told it would ship Tuesday and arrive Wednesday instead. The next day, I got a shipping confirmation saying it would arrive Tuesday—just like I asked it not to. When I contacted customer service, they were extremely rude, blamed me, and showed no accountability. Their tone was passive-aggressive and unprofessional. To make matters worse, the lizard was left on my porch in the heat with no signature required—FedEx confirmed none was requested. Thankfully, the lizard survived, but I doubt I'll get any help if something goes wrong. Avoid this company. The customer service is awful and not worth the risk.

Horrible company and business practices. I received malnurished blue iguana and 13 dead tree frogs. The company basically refuses to do anything about it unless 1 pay them more money to ship live ones. I have photos and videos of the dead frogs and container they came in. It had ZERO holes for the frogs to get any air. The company basically suffocated them and now expects more money from me to make the situation right.

My tadpoles arrived deformed. I asked them about it and they were like they're supposed to look like that. I'm like I'm pretty sure they're not. Then they blocked me from emailing them.

I never received my order of a Leopard gecko I ordered on Wednesday and haven't received anything any idea what to do to contact them asap

Back on Thursday Nov 7,2024 I had ordered a red bearded dragon hatchling which was 1 of several different types of bearded dragons to order from. There was no selection for a sunset bearded dragon hatchling. I had emailed them requesting to know how red their bearded dragons were and they told me they were more on the sunset side and not a red like they have advertised for availability on their website. The final email I received from them is of Backwater Reptile Inc telling me it's a red bearded dragon. But this morning however on Tuesday Nov 12,2024 I got the bearded dragon that it is not a red bearded dragon like I ordered but it's a sunset bearded dragon. Some people may say well it's still a bearded dragon. But that's the thing, it's not what I exactly ordered. It's like me telling people on a website that I have Rottweiler pups for sale and I send them a Poodle. Well it's still a dog, lol. I had to give at least 1 star to leave a review and I'm not that big of an a-hole to send this lizard back to put it under more stress. I just know to NEVER order from these people again and request that others use extreme caution.

Do not buy from this company! Not only do they not send you what you ordered. No one picks up the phone,mail box is full. So you can only email them and they are not helpful at all. They shipped me half my order, admitted that is was their fault and refused to send me the rest of my order unless I paid an additional $55 shipping. Zero customer service. Go to your local pet store, don't support this place.

Stay far away from this sketchy place Backwater Reptiles... geckos arrived with mbd and 1 died 2 days after arriving... contacted customer service and they blamed it on me?

I purchased a pair of Solomon Island ground boas I received exactly what I purchased they were beautiful healthy animals. I emailed back and forth with the company and got fast responses with very helpful information. I will be a returning customer as they have everything I need super fast shipping great staff healthy animals and last but not least great prices

Backwater reptiles is the perfect place to buy reptiles and amphibians! I have 2 dumpy tree frogs from them and they are absolutely adorable!

I tried ordering a tortoise through them on feb 27,2024. I ordered a hatchling but they didnt have any so they offered me a different size. Which i was fine with and refunded me the difference. The day it was suppose to be shipped i got another email saying they were unable to ship due to the cold temps at night and they needed to wait until it got up to the 40's. I was ok with it. This morning 3/3/24 i checked the temperatures for where i am in colorado and the temps wont be anywhere near the 40's all the way into mid April. So i email them letting them know that i didnt want to wait until summer to get the tortoise and if i could just get a refund instead. They replied back giving me my full refund. I know in the past this company has had horrible reviews and i was hesitant on orderimg from them. But they have been great replying to all my emails. And at the end returning my money.

I bought a blazing blizzard Leopard Gecko from these guys in mid January, and because the temperatures were not ideal for shipping, we put it off for about a month and a half to ensure there would be no problems weather wise.

The people from Backwater were more than patient and helpful with my order! Of course the negative reviews scared me a bit, but im sooo glad i went through with buying through them, my gecko is very healthy and beautiful and honestly for the price they sold her for im kinda amazed. People are always gonna be more enclined to write a bad review, but im just sharing my positive one. Very nice experience with these guys!:)

P.S. I noticed there is another site with the url backwatersreptiles, with an 's' in comparison with the real site backwaterreptiles without the 's', this seems to be a fake site people are getting scammed from so please be careful people! Dont buy from sites unless you know theyre the real deal

I should have read reviews before doing business with them. 3 dead tarantulas then made me send pictures of the box and dead animals. Not satisfied with the pictures and accused me of sending blurred pics and pic of exoskeleton! Very shady

Ordered a emperor scorpion. Entire process was quick and I received my animal the next day. I live in a cold area the packaging was well done and the heat back was still warm upon arrival. The animal is healthy and eating within 3 hours of settling down

I would highly suggest nobody buy from them what they did to my blood python was totally unacceptable she came with one heat pack at the very top of her box she was practically almost dead she looked so terrible and was so slow moving I have a picture of her and I'm surprised she's driving as good as she is right now but I will say she has problems her eyes twitch she can't even hold on to me with her tail backwater reptiles you need to be put out of business you are terrible to these animals I can't believe what you did to her and sent her out shipped her out in the middle of a snowstorm I can't believe how ignorant you people really are to these animals you abused my blood python to the point she almost came to me dead one heat pack what is mentally wrong with you people and it wasn't even near her it was all the way at the top of her box what was that going to do for her you people make me sick and I promise you I will never come back to your store if she survives you will never get my business again and you guys better hope my vet don't tell me anything otherwise because I am taking her to a vet you people make me want to throw up I hope one day someone shuts you down for what you do to these poor animals that can't even fight back

Our baby bearded dragon came almost 3 weeks ago and still barely eating. We are feeding her repetitive with a syringe and giving her electrolyte soaks. She has improved in coloring and is pooping now. She looked like death and still on the fence if she will pull through or not. After reading all of these reviews I am just sick that they are continuing to operate and sell animals. This is purely inhumane!

Received my reptiles today safe and warm they were packaged well. The heat pad was still hot when I opened the box! So far ive purchased 2 Red eye crocodile skinks 2 tarantulas, 2 angle head dragons and a frilled dragon and all arrived on time and healthy. Thanks guys we will be doing business again soon. Horrible customer service, very rude, condescending and very unhelpful! First and last time buyer.
Was trying to order a snake, but they needed pictures of your license, credit card, utility bill...shocked they didn't ask for my W-2s while they was at it. Needless to say I canceled the order, just wasn't worth it at that point.

Do not order off this site! They take your money, don't send the product, don't return the money and manipulate you about checking your emails. I bet this website will be closed down soon!

Received three very healthy albino baby turtles, and keeping them under lightless-heat in order to protect their eyes, which for anyone with albino pets of any species I very strongly recommend so your albinos don't go blind. Also, for anyone considering turtle hatchlings, one of my photos shows a dark soil bottom which I soon had to cover with larger gravel because the babies were eating it, so please keep in mind they should not be able to eat the substrate.

Anyway, I asked for three of the friendliest hatchlings, and that is what I received. Very calm and healthy animals that are comfortable with safe handling. I have ordered only a few animals from BWR spanning over the past decade or so. I've always received a healthy animal, even in some weather conditions that pushed the limits of what would be considered safe temperatures according to their website, though I wouldn't recommend doing that. Even delicate animals like chameleons and praying mantises came safely and without issue. I think those who haven't done research on live animal shipments should do so and consider the risks and realities of what can happen before leaving a poor review. Also, read their "Shipping" and "7-Day-Guarantee" pages on the website.
