Please don't order from these people. No working phone number on the website. I was emailing someone for two days about a dead turtle they gave me. Once I provided all the information needed for my refund they went ghost…… Straight Danny phantom

Literally the worst experience with communications. Their online contact form has a message above the form saying it's malfunctioning. But the form still takes input. They were "out of the office" when I contacted them via email about an issue and didn't hear anything for 2 days until they came back and informed me they were out of the office. By then I had given up on them. They then threw their site terms at me and there was nothing else I could do. Wasted time, wasted money. Ugh.

I ordered a ball python about a week ago, I had never shipped a live animal and assumed the breeder would put some care into the shipping. I live in northern Michigan and it's February meaning the temp is barely ever over 20°F…a single hot hands warmer was in the box. There was inadequate ventilation as well. Luckily my snake is alive but I find it disgusting they didn't put more effort. I would happily pay more to ensure safe and comfortable delivery for my pet.

I ordered a $20 tarantula with $39 shipping. There is an alive arrival guarantee and mine showed up to my door step directly from the FedEx guy. I now have a dead tarantula because they provide the spider with zero padding. They put the spider in there to basically die so they can charge you full shipping price again to have the next one sent. Don't spend hundreds for shipping and not receive a live healthy animal. Don't make them suffer. Order from someone else. I have never experienced a company so horrible to their animals.

We ordered a yellow bellied slider turtle on Thursday, remember that. Ok so fast forward its monday and its supposed to be here tomorrow but we live in Georgia so i will not be so harsh the are in California and that's pretty far away. Ive read good and bad reviews and im scared bc its mostly bad. I hope he makes it alive

I have ordered from them 3 times. Everything has always gone well and I have never been sent a sick, injured or unhealthy animal. I'm more than pleased with them. I've gotten a gold dust day gecko, pixie frog and a bearded dragon. All beautiful animals. That's just me. I've also ordered from big apple! Horrible customer service! Sick sick gecko that expired a week after arriving. And yeah that's all

I was provided with great service, I ordered a Big Baby Red Uromastyx. He arrived in healthy condition with heat packs newspaper the inside of the box was very warm and well packaged. They even provided helpful information about having the reptile held at the shipping center because it was 39 degrees out today and the passing between multiple trucks could get pretty cold. He arrived right on schedule like the website says. I dont write reviews but I saw so many bad reviews I had to post this. From my experince this is a trust worthy site and I would buy again if I had to.

I bought 2 green iguanas a female and a male when they came in the mail one was alive and the other one was tangled up in the paper and I picked it up and it was completely dead there was no way it was coming back to life I even did CPR cause I'm a vet but it was guaranteed to be alive and it was dead now I got one can y'all send me another one that is alive they are not cheap and I spent good money on 2 and got one I love all animals and it broke my heart when it was dead I made a little funeral for it I sent pictures of the dead one and email it to y'all I don't know what else to do... The green iguana that is still alive is happy and healthy

I ordered a baby american alligator from backwater reptiles and I was absolutely blown away at how accurate their babies are from their photos. Our baby arrived safe and sound. She is such an amazing addition to our family. Just so everyone is aware there is a fake fraudulent website who is claiming to be them and giving them poor reviews. I ordered a monitor by mistake and they fixed me up with a red iguana that's absolutely beautiful and so sweet. They shipped it very nicely and sent me all tracking right away. I will definitely only buy my reptiles from backwaterreptiles! Thank you so much!

I have seen both good and bad reviews, and I'm shocked at the bad ones. This business is spot on, they answered every single email I sent to them (and I sent a lot, with questions, etc., etc.) I over paid, they refunded my money immediately. They were very helpful with the shipping process, and I received 3 healthy CB juvenile turtles. It was actually easier than purchasing at a pet store (Backwater has a HUGE selection of species) and way better than a reptile show were the reptiles are handled and ogled at by everyone, but no-one buys. I will definitely be a returning customer, my first experience was fantastic.
Maybe all the bad reviews are from beginner reptile owners, or they think buying a reptile or arachnid is like ordering take out pizza. Its NOT that simple and Backwater takes care of all the little details.

Amazing!

We ordered a Male Russian Tortoise on Tuesday for our family. The delivery was quick, it arrived on Thursday. He came in with a newspaper insulated box with hand warmer inside to keep him as warm as possible. We got him in his habitat and he was basking under his light and exploring. We will definitely order from this company again. I was able to email after receiving him to check on age and they responded quickly with extra info about care. They want you to have a happy healthy animal. Overall a great experience.

Ordered a snake. Arrived DOA. Had multiple puncture wounds on it and was crammed in a plastic container that was way too small for the size of snake. It was so hot in the box when I opened it. These people should be in jail for animal abuse and this includes Backwater as the broker and the supplier who killed this snake. Backwater won't issue a refund. Instead, they want to scam more money out of me by charging half for a replacement plus full shipping cost. The animal arrived dead! Plus, it was sick and in a too small container. How is this my fault? Beware of their warranty. That is how the scam people.

We bought a bearded dragon and he's good and alive but buying feeder crickets they send the totally wrong size and then grill you for repeated pictures of shipping labels (apparently they don't have a record) and pictures of the wrong product they sent and then ghost you. TERRIBLE customer service. Doing my business elsewhere. 1/2 inch ordered but pinhead sent and they sure don't believe me.

I am extremely satisfied with backwater reptiles. This was my first time purchasing a reptile online. I was able to contact customer service via email with a few questions that I had and they got back to me very quickly! The sulcata tortoise that I purchased arrived quickly. I tracked the package the entire way! 10/10 recommend and if I ever buy another reptile I will do so through them!

I have purchased 3 leoard geckos from them. All 3 came healthy, on time, and packaged appropriately. Got the desired gender wrong on one but that wasnt a big deal. They were tiny and it was hard to tell. Their communication was good. When I needed to back of an order they responded promptly and refunded my money within 24 hours. Would do business with again.

The babies arrived alive & healthy with a heat pad & cryopak to keep them warm. Very active…my dogs are a little freaked out about these things moving around in the tank. Thank you for your help with everything & sending me 2 great bearded dragons

My tadpoles arrived deformed. I asked them about it and they were like they're supposed to look like that. I'm like I'm pretty sure they're not. Then they blocked me from emailing them.

I ordered six leopard geckoes. All arrived safely and on time. Eating within 2 days. I was worried because of all the poor reviews, but the quality of the animals I received I would have expected to pay 50-100% more. Thank you Backwater.
