I wrote an honest review about the attorney that replied to me through their website because after reviewing the book of records I rounded up, he couldn't help me and that's fair enough but I asked to pick up my records for a doctors appointment 4 days away and he told me he wasnt going to make a special trip for me but that i could try in a week. He disputed it, Avvo deleted my review without question.
Used a few attorneys checked ratings on avvo., Thought we had hired some good attorney unfortunately this was the truth:
1.) rating of 10 was addicted to drugs now in jail, 2.) rating of 7-8 was not trustworthy and worse. 3.) rating 7 went to rehab for alcoholism, all during my cases.
I think the ratings on AVVO and likewise are pumped up by friends and other lawyers. What you see is not what you get. One lawyer within a few months of being hired asked us to put a review on Avvo. Attorney hadn't even done anything at that time.
I'm relieved I'm not the only person with a bad Avvo experience. Avvo won't allow me to post a negative review to warn others.
Assistant Attorney General Kaelen Brodie represented the state during a January 2022 hearing. When filing a false emergency motion, Mr. Brodie intentionally misquoted a witness's testimony. Mr. Brodie argued state laws forced a court to accept knowingly false evidence into the record.
Mr. Brodie coordinated false testimonies among his witnesses. All changed their versions of events between hearings to the same or similar questions.
Mr. Brodie also shared confidential information between attorneys with his witnesses before the hearing began. That's not only unethical behavior; it's illegal.
Unfortunately, Washington state residents may never know of Kaelen Brodie's corruption.
Avvo purports to "rate" lawyers based upon publicly available information (specifically, bar disciplinary records) as well as other unspecified information. What they really want lawyers to do is "claim" their profiles (which results in an automatic increase in rating) and then sell advertising to lawyers (which seems to result in an additional rise in rating). Thereafter, lawyers can "game" the rankings by arranging for favored clients and colleagues to write nice things about them. I have witnessed colleagues increase their avvo rating from the 6.5 range ("good") to the 9.3 range ("superb") over a few months. Now they are engaging in an aggressive, obnoxious telemarketing campaign where they call my office line continually and ask to speak to me about my ranking. They will not stop calling when asked. Just say no to Avvo.
This site does NOT provide an accurate representation of attorneys. I had a terrible experience with an attorney and tried three times to leave an honest review. It was not an antagonistic review in the least; just honest. It is a scam! I even tried to talk to a live, human being. They kept sending me the same list of review guidelines. It's an enormous scam... someone should sue them... :)
This site will decline bad reviews, which makes it worthless. You can't trust it. I had a very horrible experience with Kyle Moore, an estate lawyer in Shreveport Louisiana. I wanted to tell people about it. He messed up in a area where he was supposed to be an expert. He messed up in many ways and it caused me a lot of heartache, headache, and grief. He does not seem at concerned with all the trouble he caused. He's even wanting to charge me for trying to fix his mistake. I can't understand how anybody could be this awful and think it's okay.
Avvo, like anything else lawyer related is all about protecting lawyers. I posted several reviews and most they wouldn't post or withdrew. You can't trust them, they obviously protect their lawyer members by harassing the reviewers and making them answer core and over for what they write. Same old lawyer tricks. Wear you down until you give up. I guess the lawyer paid packages must vary in order to not have their reviews published. Don't waste your time and don't expect to get reliable reviews.
Do not trust these lawyers recommend on Avvo, they lie about the quality of their lawyers. They don't let you post honest reviews unless they are good. This site will waste your money, because you will pick a lawyer only to get taken advantage of. Then when you go to write your review they won't post it. Go to other sites, the terrible lawyer I worked with is on Avvo but not the reputable sites don't trust them. They keep you from posting the truth about a lawyer, they say they don't follow guidelines, that's false, just like their recommendations and their guidelines. Interesting no positive comments about Avvo on Instagram. Go through their page not a single one.
Mr. Holberg is very competent, professional, and an absolutely nice person. He wins. He has been my attorney for eight years. He has never lost a case while representing me. If I ever have to go back to court he will be my attorney.
This site does not allow truthful reviews of lawyers. As a consequence people looking for lawyers will see positive reviews of very bad thieving lawyers and think it's ok to hire them. Certainly to obtain a good insight regarding hiring a lawyer this is not the right place.
This court appointed lawyer never touched bases with my son his client or our family. Only to misrepresent my son on a Attempt murder charge which no one was shot or hurt! He now facing 10yrs! College student life gone down the drain trusting this man! My son was smart enough to appeal the case which kolher had to testify he was responsible for being charged the highest guidelines! He's very forgetful and needs to retire!
I asked a simple real estate question and received three replies. None answered my very simple straightforward question, but at least one took the time to understand the situation with an ounce of empathy. One made assumptions that were totally wrong and biased and declared I should move and another declared I was crazy for not having a lawyer and asking questions on the website.
So I thanked the one lawyer and let the other two know I didnt find their responses helpful. Apparently dont ever ever tell a lawyer they are wrong because the nasty responses I received were appalling. One of them was so pissed off he emailed me twice because he felt I was less than grateful and I am really cleaning this up for the kiddies.
Using AVVO will convince you all the bad things they say about lawyers is mostly true.
If you want to be frustrated, annoyed, ignored, and have dubious guidance, then go ahead and use Avvo. Their rating system is super counterintuitive... ex., No Concerns doesn't really mean No Concerns! It's a misnomer. And if you try to use their "Chat Room" to ask questions, no one responds. You'll be engaging in one of the saddest soliloquies of all time.
Avvo and its sales people basically deceived me into using their services for my legal business. They basically promised more business and profits. They did not deliver at all. They will not refund the monies I paid them when I requested they do so.
Their business practice is very questionable. As an attorney, I do not recommend them.

You might be able to get some contacts and follow up with lawyers via Avvo, but in general, you should do so knowing that the site is for the benefit of lawyers, not users.
Any question you ask on the site will likely receive condescending responses. Most advice ends up being: "You are probably dumb. Hire a lawyer." No matter how simple the question might be.
It's like going to a plumbing website for help on how to unclog a drain, and all the plumbers just respond with "Hire a plumber."
Avvo prints the worst (and false) review that shows up on the tagline of the computer, even though it happened so many years ago. If you pay money they will put the most glowing reviews first. This is blackmail and absolutely the worst way to find a lawyer. If you want a lawyer go to the Massachusetts Bar Association or the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. Let credentials be your guide.
Funny, came across a 10/10 rated disability lawyer. I talked to this hack and he treated me with complete disrespect. Asked several questions over and over, talked over me almost the whole time. I don't think he ever even understood my case. Like he didn't believe what I was saying or even that one of my disabilities was a disability.
Dude, if you don't want to take my case just say I won't and hang up. Dumbass. I also have used another attorney for about a year who is excellent. What do you know, they will not approve my great reviews of him. This site is a complete scam and the Yelp of the attorney world. Just as corrupt and full of s#! T.
On June 2015 I hired Steve Rossi to represent me when I was falsely accused to striking a student. Mr. Rossi took a retainer of $2,600.00. Once he took the money he told that he couldnt appear on my behalf because if he did the Union UTD would drop me like a hot potato. I tried to post a complaint with about and they kept objecting to my wording I reformatted more than 7 times to no avail. Avvo is there to protect their own not the public.
I am an attorney, and stumbled onto my Avvo profile.
Avvo misspelled my name and listed an incorrect address.
Ive sent three e-mails, and Avvo has not posted correct information. I told them they could find my correct information on the California State Bar website. But, they apparently havent done so.
So, my Avvo profile is still incorrect, which means that clients might call me for help in areas of law I dont practice in. A waste of time for them and for me.
Tip: If you want attorney information, obtain it from a state bar association. Avvos information in my case is so incorrect as to be misleading.
My experience with the Law Offices of Amy Montes was extremely positive.
Everyone in the office is dedicated to giving their clients the highest level of legal representation. My case was handled with expertise and a caring manner. I was kept informed at all times and matters were patiently explained to me so that I had a full understanding of every step of the process. On a personal note, I found the whole staff to be wonderful. They gave me a new lease on life, I will be forever grateful to everyone there. - Mary Fregoso
Answer: AVVO is managed by attorneys for attorneys. It is a recipe for deception, self-interest and greed.
Answer: I believe it's a scam. There is no correlation between how good an attny is and their avvo rating. Based upon my personal knowledge of several attorneys that i have become very familiar with since unwittingly believing avvo information i would warn people not to trust this site for an impartial assessment of attorneys.
Answer: What is being asserted about rejection of negative reviews is absolutely consistent with my experience. Don't waste your time.
Answer: You actually can't place bad review or rating for attorney anywhere, including Martindale Hubbell or similar websites. Even if bad review is approved and posted, it will be removed by attorney request in a few days.
Answer: Because AVVO is a scam service that inflates attorney ratings, but systematically blocks negative reviews. Avoid at all costs.
Answer: It's BAD! Don't trust AVVO! A lot of attys put 5 STAR reviews about themselves and will have the 1 star reviews removed. BEWARE of your atty if s/ he has a 6.5 or has a lot of 5 STAR reviews and still not a high score
Answer: I am an attorney and had contact with this company years ago when it posted my "profile" without my consent, apparently scraping it from some legitimate source like the state bar website. I was assigned a low rating (6.5/10) based on no reviews whatsoever and encouraged to join and get recommendations from other attorneys on the site to raise my rating. I'm a 20+-year practitioner with no complaints from clients or the bar. Quite simply, it's a scam along the lines of "America's Who's Who" where the people listed in the database are the source of income for the enterprise. If attorneys don't "join" and pay they're added to the database without their consent and assigned a random low rating pulled out of nowhere. I don't see any basis to rely on "Avvo" for attorney recommendations. Try Martindale-Hubbell or recommendations from the local bar association real-life attorneys.
Avvo has a rating of 1.2 stars from 421 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Avvo most frequently mention law firm, state bar and community guidelines. Avvo ranks 74th among Legal Documents sites.
