Notified I was the winning bidder. Demanded a 26 page contract returned signed along with a wire transfer of $2500 within 24 hours. Took 3 days to confirm they received it. Several calls to my contract agent, never responded! Never notified me of non-acceptance. Now I fighting to get my money back.
Came across their website and saw a property i was interested in. Went to take a look at the outside of the property and it had a for-sale sing in the garden, contacted the agent who informed me the property is under contract and has been for a few weeks. Contacted auction.com about the listing that's supposed to be going to auction. The customer support agent was horrendous. How she got a job is customer service is beyond me... If you want to wast your time then follow this company..
I have won bids with the reserve met and then their seller never approves the sale therefore it is just a waste of time. Then I have been asking for my $2500 deposit back now for 2 weeks. They are a joke.
She answered all my questions quick and to the point! What a great asset you have. Do not let her go! Give her a raise and a better parking spot asap, so that she stays and gets to do her job faster. Your company needs a clone army of this customer service rep right here! It would be worth your time to clone an army of her and raise them to help your future customers! A+++
My bid was placed on 9/29 and closing was on 10/24, a little than less than a month. After reading all the reviews I was extremely scared and just knew something would go wrong. But nothing did. The process was very smoothly. Yes there was a fee for 700.00 for the title company but I didn't think that was bad saying I got the house for really cheap. Thanks so much auction.com
I wish I could give zero stars.
Google auction.com reviews

I won a property above reserve(reserve MET) provided funds and within a few days my funds were returned cause they changed their mind. (back door better offer?)
It sold for 2x my bid later and then flipped for 2x again...
Tried to bid on local properties. They went higher than my bid but reserve MET... next auction around-they were up for sale again.
Customer service a JOKE!
Chat ended by agent before my questions were answered.
WOW... same experience as with phone support.
I guess if you have monopoly on foreclosure auctions-you can treat customers like trash.
Too bad.
How many of these positive reviews are by employees getting a free lunch for every positive comment or review?
It doesnt build a lot of confidence in an online site if you know you are bidding against bots/shill bidders.
Since we are not talking about pennies here, rather tens and sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars im guessing it will only be a matter of time before:
A. The feds catch on
B. Daily paper shows tons of boxes being carried out of their headquarters
C. The two sides announce a (steep) payment from auction.com that doesnt admit to wrong doing but promises to clean up their act
They responded very quickly via chat. Pacific coast located they are there at 5AM to support EST users. Clear and precise responses. Could only get better if they started giving money away ;) they don't but it would be nice.
Was outbid, then they called within an hour to offer house at the "Reserve" price. My bid was $2k below that. They did NOT due their due diligence in making any mention to the seller and negotiate... like every real estate deal is done. Then my credit card # was stolen, ironically by someone in the same city as Auction.Com two hours after bidding ended. I'll take my chance and hope it hits the market with a legitimate company!
IF you have really been scammed file a Deceptive Trade Practices Act -suit. In many states you can get huge damages.
I didn't go that far with them- it seems they set a super-high reserve and it may be several times the opening bid. Not a good way to get a bargain.
Total scam. The website lists the homes as financable, then changes at auction listing time. I suspect it is a matter of months before another real estate market crash. The bankers are limiting supply to build demand. Of course, the suckers are biting on the bait and buying at unreasonable prices. Amazing how short the memory of some people. Have people really forgotten about the real estate collapse that was less than 7 years ago? I will be renting...
So I got everything ready to start bidding on a property listed on auction.com. Three days before the bidding even started they took it off and said they had accepted an offer. What kind of bull$#*! is this? How do you take something off before the it even auctions? This website is a piece of $#*! and waste of time. Don't EVER use this site.
I was super nervous after reading all the bad reviews on here, but my experience was great. I think the people complaining have no clue how the auction process works. Auction.com is just the middle person, all these house are bank owned. You have to do your due diligence. The process is as good as you make it. We had a few issues with paperwork,(zip code was wrong), and I did have to make multiple phone calls to get it fixed but everyone was super nice, and communication was prompt. Some people might be angry that multiple phone calls where needed to fix the problem, but I bought this house for ten's of thousands under value, so I don't mind doing a little extra leg work. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another property through auction.com!
It is not clear on any of the transaction details, or the Terms and Conditions PDF. It is probably in the contract, but I am too disgusted to look. On a house for $15,000.00, winning bid, the closing costs are $1,776.50 through Linear Title. In my area, $550-600 including title insurance is most common. There is no possible way to get out of this.
Linear Title describes itself as a Fortune 500 Company on their Facebook site.
How COULDN'T they be? They have a contract with auction.com and charge 5 x's more than any title company.
Closed on several properties. Each and everyone took at least 3 months longer to close than contracted for. Personnel is nothing more than telemarketers. Earnest money deposits should be kept in interest bearing accounts and buyer should be compensated at closing. Of course no one wants to talk about that, or keys, or why they need to have money wired yesterday. They also try to force you into using their title companies for closing. After closing, you have to break into your own home.
My auction.com site live chat person, Kristal H, was very informative and had a quick response. I was wondering since the property was listed as vacant, why would my walking around be considered trespassing.
I just bought my 1st house on auction.com. After I bid I saw these bad reviews. I wanted to give my honest review that if you read how it works (as I did) it went flawlessly. Closed in 3 weeks and I got a great 3 bedroom 2 bath house for $13k! We will buy again! HP Property Management
I'm over a month in to what should have been a two week escrow and I'm experiencing the same bull$#*! as everyone else- no progress being made and the closing specialist (ursala auger) refuses to answer the phone or return emails.
There is no way I would ever deal with auction.com again.
These are not real auctions and should be sued for fraud. They will bid property up to there asking price with no other bidders. There is no protection for the buyer or title guarantees or property condition guarantees. Bid there asking price if you really like the property but they are all run down properties that no one else can sell. Of course you must have all cash so there is no recourse if you get screwed.
At first I thought this wasnt legit, it made me really nervous. I put the $2500 down (they never processed my card). Then after I won my auction for about 1/2 the price it last sold for I sent escrow money. The process started 8/31/17 and we finally closed Monday oct 16th. So heads up it takes awhile. But it really is a legitimate site.
Answer: I believe that the average potential buyer does not do their DUE diligence AHEAD of time. I first, read all the documents attached to the property I was interested in. Second, I drove by the property to check things out. Third, I went to the county recording office to see if there were any liens against them. Fourth, I ran the comps for the houses in the neighborhood and look at the rating for the schools within the district. Fifth, know what your limit is on what your final bid will be and do not bid over that amount just to win the auction. Other tips, try to get ahold of the agent that is representing the property and just ask them if they are willing to let you see the property inside, all they can say is no, right? I hope this helps. Wait, miscellaneous stuff, It is true, all auctions on this site are STRICKLY in favor of the seller... Negotiating is near to none.
Answer: The bank can and will bid against you to get a higher price (shilling). Read the web site. This practice is illegal everywhere else. But get the banks a higher price.
Answer: If you win the auction it is a binding contract. Contracts are to be E signed within like 2hrs I think. Most are sold as is. Due your homework before you buy! Mark
Answer: Have your real estate agent search title. If the property is occupied, you will have to get the people out yourself.
Answer: May we please have the property address you are inquiring about?
Answer: It means that the sale did not go though, there could be many reasons. And they are so opaque you will never find out what the reason was... maybe no financing, maybe spam bidding, maybe the seller backed out...
