This is an unscrupulous outfit. There is inadequate disclosure that one request for information will convert into a monthly charge on your credit card. I submitted cancellation requests twice and they were ignored. When my credit card number number changed, they were able to get the new number from VISA -- without my permission -- and continue the monthly charges. Both Archives.com and VISA have liability for this fraudulant operation.
I signed up for the 7-day free trial. When I clicked on the county and state record it stated in a bold font that $0.00 would be charged. After I submitted it, it changed to $49.90 would be charged. There was no phone # listed on the site. Through 'Contact Us' I immediately sent a request to cancel the order and cancel the free trial. A few days later the charge showed up on my credit card. I got their phone # from my credit card, but they refuse to remove the charge. I am going to pursue getting the charge removed but don't have a lot of hope based on other people's experience with this company.
I sent away for a certified copy of a divorce decree from the state of Arizona, and 4 weeks later received a copy of someone else's distribution of assets after death? I lm confused why their customer service refuses to respond.
I signed up for this for 1 month. I then cancelled. Yet... 6 months later they are still taking money out of my paypal account, even though my account says "No payment Methods are Available". If there are no payment methods on the account how can they still be taking money from me! Then I contact them and they claim they can't find my account even when I send them copies of the account, copies of their email receipt for payment (with transaction #) and copy of the page that says "no payment methods...". 4 months and I still can't get my money back. I finally had to cancel my paypal account to get these people to stop taking money from me. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SITE. The info on it is available on other sites. It is such a scam and impossible to cancel.
I went on for the seven day trial, decided immediately I wanted to cancel but wack hen I tried to find a place to cancel, there was none. Therefore I sent a message to customer support and got no answer. I have never received a registration notice or a cancellation notice, but I have now been billed for annual membership. When I went back on their site today to cancel again and complain, I received a message that the site is down.
This site is the worst. I was trying to remove my information from them like how spokeo and intelius have all your information under pipl dot com. All other websites remove your information without a problem, but archives dot com will not. I hate to get religious, but they are MORMON OWNED and affiliated with ancestors.com which is the same. I don't know how the BBB works, but they need to be reported. They refuse to take down my web information.
Everything they offer you can get free somewhere else. If you have a public tree at Ancestry.com, Archives.com allows their subscribers free access to our information. If anyone is going to profit from my public tree it's going to be me. I'm deleting my trees.
I decided after a couple of months that I no longer wanted them to bill through PayPal directly and removed PayPal as my billing option. I wanted to make the decision month to month whether to renew based on value. I assumed they would bill me. Instead, they continued to bill through PayPal - indicating that if I wanted to change billing, I had to cancel the contract. Repeated emails with customer "service" resulted in continued frustration. I ultimately cancelled the subscription - don't join in the first place!
This is a scam. I signed up for the free seven days. The next month I have two charges, one for $59.+ and one for 7.95, then another for 7.95. I called their number, no response. The only way to stop them is to cancel your credit card and have a new number re-issued. SCAM! I wish I had seen this site first! I thought this was connected to ancestry.com but it isn't!
I would like to rate as zero star. I applied death certificate there which is my biggest mistake ever. They took all of my money and returns nothing. I called them to follow my application and they LAUGHED at me as a looser. It is totally a SCARM and people please stay away from them.
Just realized, after looking at my banking statement closely, that this RIP OFF COMPANY had been debting my acct since last February. $7.95 a month and it's the principle of the matter. I didn't authorize this! Apparently in the small print. I called the company and got the scripted runaround from reps and supervisor. Do not give them your business!
Their 7 day free trial is simply a scheme to get your credit card number. They will charge you immediately anyways. The matches they provide on any search ("We found x vital records on y") turn out to be mostly links to other paysites or links to freely available information. I was lucky enough to use PayPal for the free trial registration (which I was unable to cancel with Archives.com), because I could just file a complaint with PayPal and they agreed it was a scam. Archives.com seems to pay some third party bloggers to refute the scam claim - do not fall for that, either. Archives.com has always been a scam, and needs to be shut down.
This is the worst site ever. Can't get anyone on phone. Can't sign in to "easily" cancel my subscription because the site doesn't recognize my email address and/or password, i went to reset but they are telling me my email address is invalid, it isthe only one I have. I have now been on hold for 10 minutes as i type this. I have a dispute in with paypal because i refuse to give them any more money, and the ONLY reason they got 3 months out of me is because they are impossible to get a hold of. Do not use this site.
Add us to list of the scammed. We already contacted the bank and they credited us the first time but they allowed them to continue to take out the same amount AGAIN this month. And adding to that, our bank is now refusing to help saying we should have contacted the company which everyone seems to agree is next to impossible. Is there anyone of legal authority that would be willing to take them out?
The first time I noticed charges from this website, I called to tell them I had never signed up with them. They assured me I was not in their database, and the charges could not be coming from them. The next time I called, it took about 45 minutes, but they finally found that someone else had signed up with my card number, but they would not tell me who. They said they protect their members. So if you are a thief, this is the site for you. And, they said they they would only credit me for one month's charge, but after some arguing, the gave me 5 months credit.
I too have been scammed by archives.com they have been charging me 19.95 per month as far back as my online bank statement gives out. I wonder if anyone knows if we have any legal recourse to prosecute these people
I ordered two tops on the 28th of December.
Tracking did not work.
I was told several different excuses after having to chase custom service for days.
BREXIT, COVID, CUSTOMS, COURIER DELAY
Every day a different excuse for 2 months.
Eventually, I was told their European manufacturers went bankrupt and they now manufacture in Asia. (It's not clear to customers that their products are made and sent from Asia) Apparently more custom issues or problems with their manufacturers their lies were not clear! So they are not able to resend my order that was originally lost by their couriers! I mean the excuses are endless! Finally refunded 2 months and countless emails, Instagrams, calls later. Thanks to currency exchange I actually ended up paying them for this horrendous service! Worst customer service ever! They probably don't have any stock and are taking customers' money to buy stock i. E Ponzi scheme. DO NOT TRUST.
I never authorized this company to take money from my account month after month. I tried more than once to cancel them I had to jump thru so many hoops it was ridiculous still to no avail I finally had to close my account. Never again!
This site is a joke and a scam, and will not refund you your money for anything! I will never do business with such a joke as this site, and these people ever again! They claim to be legit, but I don't buy it, after they failed to properly and professionally do a search for me, and they claimed they were unable to find the info I had requested within the time frame their site had stated (It wasn't even 24 - 48 hours). They also took money out of my account without my permission, and I did not give them permission to renew my membership after my free trial, especially after they still have not refunded my money back for that "search" I had requested! This site is a scam!
Archives.com signs up for 7 day "free" trial. Their information collections are weak at best and they know. They try and charge you a full month, NON_REFUNDABLE fee on the last day of the 7 day "free" trial. When you call in they give you a schtick about memberships being non-refundable. When you push for a supervisor intervention they put you on hold, refund the money and then leave you on hold as some sort of juvenile punishment. They know you won't be back for a second month so they bottom feed off the first ill gotten first month's fee. If you don't mind being ripped off by all means sign up with Archives.com, better yet buy a car from Larry H. Miller!
Answer: They were taking $$$ from my debit card. I couldn't cancel online or over the phone. Each one directed me back to the other. I finally called my bank to see if they would stop payment. My only option was to cancel my debit card and wait a week without one. That's what I did. I'll never signup for a free trial again.
Answer: They apparently automatically sign you up for the service. They have no phone number on their website and their contact form does nothing. They are horribly disreputable and do this ro everyone. I finally found a phone number after a long internet search. Please be careful with the info you give them. 888-896-4442.
Answer: I'm going through the same thing. I've read they are part of Ancestry.com but no luck there either.
Answer: Yes as far as i got involved in either both were confusing and neither could help me with finding biological grandparents but ancestry did cancel when asked
