The title of the review is very self explanatory. Yet, they recommend these places?!?! If you read the fine print, they are only referring you to places that pay them, yet the don't recommend or endorse them? Why are the communities that they refer not advertising on their own?!?!
Not only did I have to jump through hoops because they couldnt get information right (it nearly caused an even bigger rift in my family because a mix up on their end had us thinking someone had massively overstepped boundaries), but I have also been fielding calls from communities that arent applicable to our situation because my grandmother required skilled nursing, not assisted living. The rep from the company that called me to assure satisfaction after months of getting calls from facilities that are of no use wasnt listening to a word I said about my grandmothers insurance or needs, and skewed what I said about needing skilled care (a facility I just spoke with said their notes read to avoid skilled nursing, but that what we need). Dont waste your time, these people dont know their $#*! from a hole in the ground.
They don't care about helping families. All they do is gather your information and send it out to the surrounding senior living communities. Worse than car salesmen. You're better off doing your own research.
Firstly, there were no facilities in the community my Dad lived. To move him to a different community would mean getting him a new doctor, which is next to impossible. I received at least a phone call and an email every single day from someone from this organization. My Dad had squamous cell carcinoma on his cheek and we were told that it's operable and he won't die from it. We were glad about that. He also had dementia which was the reason we wanted to get into a care home. Long story not very short is that he passed away. When I informed a fellow following up by email, I never received a reply saying sorry for your loss. No reply at all! How uncaring can someone be? This really upset me. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. They do harass you by phone and email and as soon as their "bankroll" is gone, they drop you like a hot potato! Do your own research, everything is online. Talk to people for a personal opinion.
Mediocre placement service, poor mechanisms for feedback after placement, and clear clear first priority for sales and commissions.
After my experience today I've learned they will help only if you have money. My senior advisor sent me a link which basically still put the work on me... she said they don't work with medicaid so there you have it.
While searching for place for our mother, we originally began exploring places from a "A Place for Mom", and with no success, we decided to look outside the area and I had communicated to their rep that we had begun the search on our own. She began to send us information on her own, in the mean time we identified a place for my mother independent from their assistance, which we communicated to her. Several months after my mother had been living at the senior care facility, A Place for Mom began demanding placement fee from the Senior Care Home. In essence this fee gets charged back to the families for original move in fee. We have attempted numerous times to let them know we did not use their service to find this place, but because this Senior Care Center is listed in their database, they are attempting to collect, when they did nothing to provide any assistance. Most of their information they provide can be found on your own on the internet. They even attempted to trick me into providing a survey on the senior care center, so that they can use the information as if we had used them for the placement. It's so sad & dissapointing that a service like this lacks the integrity and ethics.
I placed five calls to this organization and they promised to have their "advisor" get in touch with me. That NEVER HAPPENED!
I went looking on my own.
I inquired about them at the facility I found. My name had been provided to them, and even though that's ALL they did, they were receiving a fee for the work that I did!
This really should be illegal.
Not knowing what to do when my Mom's dementia forced us to place her in a home I contacted A Place for Mom. They sent me a list of corporate, institution type homes that kick back big referral fees to them. Thinking this was the only option available, we placed Mom in one until recently until I realized the care had deteriorated to the point of complete neglect. I contacted A Place for Mom again and received my personalized updated computer generated list of the exact same places I eliminated years ago. Stay away from any places they suggest unless you want to be abused financially and more offensive see the horrible care provided, or not, to your loved one.
Generic emails, saying "look at all the places I've found for you!" I call the places: no room; don't accept Medicaid, whatever the reason. AWFUL!
Stay away. They are only interested in their referral commission. If a Social Worker recommends them you can be sure they are in on the take. Do not give them any information because they will share it with every facility in your area in the hopes of a commission. You will then be bombarded with unwanted and unneeded phone calls and emails. Stay away. A very unscrupulous business.
I am writing to tell of my very positive experience with my local advisor at A Place for Mom. We really didn't know what we should do with our Dad and I got a call almost immediately after I filled out the form. I was hesitant but this company is the real deal and truly helped us narrow down options, including the pricing and got us out to see the places. We found a great solution and I can't thank the advisor or A Place for Mom for helping us find a place for Dad!
If you have the capabilities to go on sitejabber, you have the ability to do what a place for mom does. They are like ambulance chasers. They will be your best friend, and the nicest people. UNTIL they find out where you loved one is. Then they turn and right away they are going after their money. If they don't get paid they threaten the care facility with collections, and then court. They will never follow up with about how your loved one is doing. They don't care! They want their money. Take the time and do your own research (On Line) don't be "STUPID" and let them get away with SCAMMING anyone else. If I could I would keep writing these reviews. I have contacted a place for mom, to all their different departments, from the CEO down for a couple of months now. They will not answer me or contact me. I will continue to write these reviews every where I can. Don't use this company. I see Charlie S. Company rep. Used to respond to these reviews, and even get in contact with some of the reviewers, maybe they will try to respond to me. Please do.
This "service" is a true disaster! You are in such a vulnerable position when you call these "help" providers and all they do is take advantage of the situation! I was horrified to find out by calling them some of the Senior Home care place would not consider taking my family member because A place for mom would hit them with a HUGE Commission! Do not call them! HORRIBLE service!
Great job to all of Avalon. You and your team have done an outstanding job and it is appreciated by all.
Sad when I need help the most they pery like vultures
Read all the reviews. You will see a pattern of there business model. Placement = payment to them.
I called this organization several times and they have not responded to my numerous requests. You are better off doing the research on your own.
The day after I wrote this review (11/2), I received, but did not see right away, an email from my APFM agent. By Friday 11/3 I started to receive calls from facilities that clearly understood what I was looking for based on the criteria I had given APFM. I'm giving 5 stars now just to offset the 1 from before. I won't really know how great it is/was until I find the facility we need, but 1) it would have been really useful for my agent to call to tell me the email had been sent; and 2) if she wasn't going to make the schedule she promised for the email, to let me know she was on it and still going to get it to me.
Super responsive and efficient until I said we had adequate budget for independent living facilities but not for memory care down the road - where we'd probably need Elderly Waiver support. I wanted a list of facilities in the relevant geographic area where the transition from self-financed independent -> to assisted with Elderly Waiver would be accepted. She did not follow up with the promised email and never returned my subsequent calls. Wish I'd have looked at these reviews first so I didn't waste my time. Why do I keep having to learn this lesson over and over?! > :(
I was desperate to find low income senior housing for my mother and requested information from APFM. They require a phone number and email to send the info (that was a red flag, but i was desperate) so I put in my number even though I did not want to speak with anyone, just wanted them to email me information. They have called me over 10 times in two day. I decline the call but they just keep calling over and over. Luckily I gave them my Google Voice number and can easily block their calls. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR REAL PHONE NUMBER! They will harass you nonstop.

Answer: In the Greater Louisville (Kentuckianna) metro area there are several I can recommend you consider based on our tour of recommended facilities in Southern Indiana. As residents of Southern Indiana, just across the river from Louisville, we chose Silvercrest in New Albany Indiana. They offer independent living in freestanding apartments as well as assisted living and also more complete care for those needing it. We also really liked Traditions at Hunters' Station in Sellersburg which has identical options, and Bennett House in Clarksville, which offers assisted living and additional services but does not have independent living. Some of these do have limited Medicaid beds in their nursing facilities.
