Be careful using Ancestry. I had an account years ago and used a free trial. When I checked on it last week I was offered a free trial again so I accepted. Little did I know that you get only ONE free trial. It doesn't state that anywhere on the website or in the offer so after I clicked accept it immediately charged my credit card that it had on file for a full month membership. I let it go because I figured I would use it for some research. After using it for 10 days I was done and cancelled the subscription so my card wouldn't be charged for another month. Ancestry immediately charged my credit card a $25 cancellation fee. I have emailed them to ask about the $25 cancellation fee and was told it was because of the type of subscription I had (World-wide). They will hold you hostage to that subscription. Either you pay $40 per month for 6 months or they will charge you to cancel it.
My mother is 2nd generation Abruzzo Italian even the records I found ON their WEBSITE shows Italian birth records… so where they lost me was when the results came back as my mom is 14% Italian LMAOO then gonna argue with me saying it's possible for those results to happen even if both her parents were 100%? That's not how genetics works maybe traits not ethnicity! They take ur dna n match it with other PEOPLE that JOIN! They told me they don't track indigenous dna. Like what? My father is half indigenous it only showed his Afro dna results I took the American girl doll heritage dna test 2010, they let me send my grand mom dna n they found tons of INDIGENOUS results. They couldn't track my grandfathers but regardless it's a waste of $$ if ur black they base ur results on estimates based off of history lol n other ppl that pay a million to get on this app.

I signed up for a membership on Ancestry on March 1,2022. On March 6,2022 I converted my membership to the world explorer membership for 6 months. On March 7 I was billed $229 for an automatic renewal. I called to cancel, but I was told once I was billed I couldn't cancel the membership. The problem is, I was automatically renewed for one year. I don't understand how that can be legal. If I had automatic renewal, wouldn't it be for the 6 months I signed up for the first time. This site is ripping people off. I filed a BBB complaint.
Basic membership is $24.99/month. If you cancel your membership, any hints that you paid for are removed permanently. Scam. If I paid for it then it should remain! Scam.
Looked at it 1 time and could not get out of it before being charged for a month and a $25 cancellation fee. AVOID AT ALL COST
They gave me a bunch of stuff they got off google for $100.00 + dollars this sucks then you can only talk to
A bunch of script reading fools.
Guess i need to go to Utah
They took the CC numbers used to pay testing fees and rolled them into a fake monthly plan. Wow! Scary!
Signed up for 14-day FREE Trial. CANCELLED it within the 1st day and received a Cancellation Confirmation by email. Then discovered they had immediately charged my bank account for $16.50, then also charged me a $25.00 "cancellation fee". Called Ancestry & after customer rep got off the phone numerous times, she finally said they will issue me refund of $15.44 (don't know how they arrived at that amount) so will see if I actually receive that.
Said couldn't refund the $25.00. Thus, my Bank is filing a Dispute for the $25.00 fee. People out there... BEWARE of this company!
There is a girl claiming to be my niece and she is dressing me out she looks nothing like my brother she has no proof my brother is her father
There is no way to find out where you are in the process. They keep you in dark. They never respond to your emails or contacts. I wish there was no star for this rating. I would have given them no star.
I'd like to provide some feedback about ancestry.com free trial in the hopes that you'll be able to prevent someone else from getting caught in their trap. Their free trial, which I canceled after 5 days, ended up charging me for 4 months and it took several phone calls and two online cancellations and I'm still not even sure if it's canceled. This is a horrible process from start to finish and it took me 30 minutes just to get to the part where I could cancel it which I was on hold because I started to call them to cancel and I figured while I was on hold I would see if I could find any information online and cancel again... which coincidentally, the second I got to the cancellation site online after navigating a few dozen pages, they answer the phone and then she proceeds to tell me that you're unable to cancel it online although I just hit the cancel button and it said I was canceled!? She's like, the only way you can cancel is through a call, so I asked her which was it? She had literally just told me the only way to cancel was through a phone call and then she said I was already canceled which didn't make any sense because I did that after 5 days of the free trial so I should have never been charged, And then they had the audacity to ask me if I'd like to continue my membership that I had just furiously ranted to her about and wanted a refund for... Wtf? This was only supposed to be a free trial and I got roped into 4 months worth of payments and finally she puts me on hold again and after several minutes, (I assumed she spoke to a supervisor) she gets back on and says she's willing to make a one time exception to give me my last month's money back which if it doesn't come back to my account this month within the week I'll be canceling my card so they'll no longer have valid information for me. Sorry for the length sorry if there's any typos because I used talk to text but I just want the information to be out there that it's a trap pretty much and you really got to read those terms of service. And if you do decide to try it just call the first time to cancel.
I signed up for one month. I did the research I needed to do in that time frame and didn't need to do more. Then they renewed on me for another month. I cancelled my membership. I used a virtual card and deleted that number, too, just in case those weasels don't honor my cancellation.
For what it's worth, many of Ancestry's records are duplicates of what you can find for free on Familysearch. That's the LDS website. Even many of the books Ancestry has digitized can be searched for free on Internet Archive or Hathitrust.
OK service but the bait and switch billing system is almost impossible to manage. Refunds are rare and overseas agents are paid to refuse to refund.
I expected Ancestry to automatically fill my tree when my DNA results came, NOPE! All persons I share DNA with their tree is either locked or they don't have one. 23andMe provides broad DNA results and fills your tree as well as provide a list of all your relatives where you can compare your results with them. Navigating through Ancestry is frustrating, it's not worth it.
The cost is outrageous! Good heavens! With the $300 they ask for every 6 months for full access a whopping $600 a YEAR, I can save that money and fly to England AND GET THE RECORDS MYSELF!
I started a free trial and realized immediately it was not something I wanted or needed! I CANCELLED immediately cancelled the subscription and have been charged EVERY MONTH since then which has been a total of $132.95! I have asked them to cancel and they have emailed saying it would cancel and continue to charge me! It has been such a PAIN IN THE $#*!! I cancelled my card and had a new one with a new number sent out and somehow they continue to be able to charge my card! The last email states it would take 30 days to cancel which is BS AND THEN THEY HIT MY CREDIT CARD ONCE AGAIN ON THE 31st day!
Cancelled my subscription on July 30th after being charged without my permission. They issued me a refund, but then not even a week later charged me account making my bank go into debt which made me have to pay a bank fee of $30. Said that I renewed my subscription(never did AND turned automatic payments off so that wasn't it either) and kept saying that I was only charged once. I have a charge on my bank account for the July 30th, August 1st, and 4th because of them. I even cancelled my subscription(the first time apparently, should have been the only time) through customer support and have text proof that they cancelled it. My bank is supposed to dispute the charges since Ancestry wanted to keep charging me for a subscription I never renewed or even used.
Save your money it's all a scam! According to them I have no family and I know my immediate family has used them even my daughter who I know is my daughter does not come up? Did try to reach out to them with no luck! Plan and simple this company is a scam!
I recently bought a DNA test for my father as a birthday present. When it came through we wanted to be able to get in contact with new family members. Sadly you have to purchase, so we tried the free trial and I was charged before the trial ended. I called twice about it being canceled was gave a confirmation number that did not work. Don't trust ancestry they'll charge you anyway. They tried to put blame on a old account I had from early May last year that I had stopped. You can see from the pics I cancelled and was still charged. I was charged 8 days before the free trail ended, which put me in the negative. I'm paid monthly so yeah this sucks big time!
Answer: I agree... so many current complaints yet they seem to be more concerned with signing up new, younger members who are more deeply engaged in technology. It is business to these folks and they have to get younger people joining to make more money long term. Baby boomers though are their natural market and as more boomers retire and have more time and discretionary income they will be the ones who will be likely to join over the next few years.
Answer: Hi Joan, I see Karen above has answered your question regarding the old site. Full that box in Joan, tell them why you are leaving, give it to them straight. Write what you have put above, and more if so inclined. I have told them exactly what I think of their new so called experience! I think they have got a nerve inflicting this on us without even asking. They have made so many errors on the profiles, I know I shall have to check through every person on my tree, the mistakes they have put on are unbelievable, maps have been added that have nothing to do with the person. But the whole new set up is not enjoyable to use at all, the background colour is very hard on the eyes. I hate this new site with a passion! They should give us the choice of the format. From feedback I have seen, most of their long term customers much prefer the old site, Ancestry don't seem to realise what a great unique format they had, it was really classy, I loved working on it for hours and hours. They should listen to their customers, because they are going to be leaving their site in droves when the old ancestry is not available anymore. I shall use the old site as long as possible, then look for somewhere else to do my researching
Answer: Go to the right side of the page up at top where you sign in, and in the pull down menu there will be a place to go back to the old, classic ancestry, you know however, soon they are pulling the plug
