Worst customer service ever. I have been an Amex card holder for 42 years. Service used to be top notch but now it's the worst so I'm canceling my account.
I tried to redeem points. Spoke to overseas clueless customer service people that never called me back. After 3 calls to resolve finally fourth call I spoke to someone in the states. Still not resolved. Fourth call the woman In Arizona said they would FedEx my gift cards to me overnight. I never received them. Tomorrow I will call to see what happened. Probably waste more time talking to poorly trained overseas people who could care less about my issues and just hang out on the Phone pretending to do their job. Amex used to have great customer service but now they are the worst customer service ever. I'm cashing out all my points and canceling my Amex after 42 years. What a disgrace this company has become.

Leaving them asap
July 2, 2021

Just spoke to Peggy Jones from AMEX. She was very rude and did not understand the situation whatsoever. I was told by 5 reps (yes, 5 individual reps) that my account is cleared for a charge I was about to make. The charge was declined although I'd wired money to AMEX specifically for this charge. I called to check why it was declined, they advised me to split the payment into 2. I did that and it was declined again. I called them again and explained that if the charge doesn't go through I will incur fees since it's a long weekend. They said to try it again. Tried, declined. Called again and spoke with Peggy. She gave me some attitude, which I did not deserve, I did not yell, spoke respectfully. I am their client for about 12 years but no more. I am closing all my accounts with AMEX, business(es), and personal, and I advise you to do the same. If they are not there the 1 time in 5 years that I need them then what's the point.

One is at the most risk of fraud whilst traveling but I never had to worry knowing credit secure by Amex had me covered. 20 years! Now some wise person at Amex has decided to block all access to credit secure from overseas! I can get on Amex but not on credit secure because they say security. So are you saying Amex site isnt secure because I can log in there. So I am away, get a notification about dark web from credit secure and could not check messages or login. International call with long wait costing me $ and frustration to find out about this ridiculous change in policy. So disappointed. I had to cancel today and no one cares. Thanks Amex credit secure CEOs for messing up a good service!

I came across as weird and annoying yesterday that they don't waive the one-time interest charge. I have been using my Amex Platinum card for so long and have never missed a payment ever. However, I accidentally missed one payment last month just for a day. When I called the customer rep the next day, he told me he put the refund for the late fees and interest charge, but it never happened. After making multiple calls each week, I finally learned through their supervisor that they could only waive the late fees but not the interest charge, which I felt was very pathetic. All the major credit cards companies, if you have an excellent history, they do that at least one time, BUT Amex has no exception. Very sad and non-courteus

SERVE CARD
August 27, 2021

I advise anyone wanting to use this card to rent a hotel with it. DONT DO IT! They have put a hold of an additional $75 on my account and won't release it for 30 days. They kept telling me if I got the merchant to send in a merchant release them it would be released and I found out today that it still won't be released until 30 days is up. American Express has lost the American "way". Poor customer service and you have to tell them every I'D document and info there is on yourself before they can tell you that there's nothing they can do. I've never been able to call them and be able to settle any issue I have with them. I have a question American Express... why don't you hire Americans to answer your phones?

DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE!
January 25, 2023

NOT worth the fee, you're basically paying for the bonus miles. You don't get into the lounge for free. You pay $40 a person...The perks they are providing you pay for...and the fee is once every year. You rarely get an upgrade MQM's are a scam. So, I called customer service to rebook a flight and they negated ******* of my miles. Delta and American Express have a relationship until something goes wrong. Then they don't know each other. Amex has gone down the hill. I wish another company would come along that has the same ethics they used to have.

September 9, 2023

Everytime I call American Express and speak to a person they have and unpleasant tone and they talk over me. They transfer to the wrong departments as well. I really don't know how they've been in business for so long. They act like snobs.

American Express became a scam. It uses third party credit company in Israel that do not provide any service for customers what so ever, they are unreachable, they don't call back, and they only work from 9 am to 4 pm, and when you reach them it is always we will call you tomorrow, or you will see this in 8 days,,,,,, bla bla bla. American Express became a franchise! Allowing bad companies to print their logo on the credit card.
In case of Israel the company called isracard American Express and you only realize this when you have a problem! Reputation out of the window

I signed up for the Amex Hilton card, exceeded the offer spend thresholds and then American Express say that I'm not eligible for the promotion because I already have an Amex gold card. Read thier small print and see how many tones "at our discretion" comes up. Such a scam.

I tried paying my balance due to website not working and the agent said he could not take my payment even though they take money out of my account every month. I am the spouse and have been granted the access to information & payment but yet he would not help. Very disappointed and we will not be using our card in the future.

My experience with this banking company has been nothing short of dissatisfying. From having to deal with complications involving shopping online to outright not being able to buy things that say they accept AMEX cards. I would say if you are looking for a good banking company to buy from or apply for you're better off going somewhere else than them.

Repeatedly charges overtime charges even when I'm early with payments. Very aggressive with these fees, obviously this is part of their business model. Would never use this card if I wasn't forced to use it in my job.

Cold card customer for many years. Pay my bills on time as requested on hard copy invoice send by us office of amex.
During a period of time I received email messages from the Amsterdam office Netherlands.
I have let them know I don't use email for financial purpose and pay my amex bills soon as I received and checked as per hard copy.
Bills are not always correct, many times they try to charge you for payments already done.
When you contact them (by phone through the helpdesk) you have to be very patient.
Employees are very unfriendly without any knowledge, even head of the bookkeeping department.
Now they send me a invoice with a fine for bills already paid.
Other issue, when traveling a lot you find out amex are very low in popularity by store, hotels and gasstations.
Time to say goodbye too a very poor company.

Terrible Service
March 25, 2023

Poor customer service. They advertise Gold Status with Marriott Bonvoy but setup the account wrong so when check in to Marriott there is no gold status. Agents are unable to take action and tell you to wait 5 business days for an answer. Would not recommend to anyone else. There are better travel cards with perks and better service then Amex. Waste of time and money.

American Express used to be the top notch card to hold. And yes membership had its privileges but as of now American Express is horrible when I say horrible horrible. First of all, they tried to dissuade you from talking to a human by going on the internet chatting. Nobody wants that number two when you had a dispute. American Express was very gracious to work with you. As long as you provide a documentation. Once you get documentation now they're still questioning you. I am over American Express. Nobody hardly takes your card. Anyway, I'm getting ready to go to the other side because customer service was the only thing that really made you guys stand out. That was your signature and the way that you were handled disputes for me was golden. But now you full of excuses and you don't stand by your customer done done and done

Just a few months ago I opened an American Express card simply to take advantage of a zero-percent balance transfer offer. For a fee of 3%, I would have no interest for 12 months. Other than doing the balance transfer, I have not used this card at all. Since the first bill, I have been charged with interest of different amounts. Every month I call and get the same answer that they are having issues with the offer and it would need to be sent to another department. As of today, I have still been fraudulently charged $7.94 in interest. Cannot wait to pay this card off and be done with them. I do NOT recommend this company and will continue to pursue these charges.
