Airbnb's reputation is significantly marred by persistent complaints regarding its customer service and the quality of listings. Customers frequently express frustration over inadequate support, particularly in resolving issues related to cleanliness and safety at properties. Many report feeling unsafe or misled by inaccurate listings, leading to financial losses and dissatisfaction. Conversely, some users have had positive experiences with Airbnb Luxe, highlighting exceptional service and quality accommodations. Overall, while there are isolated instances of satisfaction, the overarching sentiment reflects a concerning trend of unreliable service and a lack of accountability towards both guests and hosts.

I searched on Airbnb's website for hours for the right place to stay with my family of four at a decent price. After deciding, reserving, and paying through PayPal, I received an email at almost 3:00 in the morning. I was advised that a system error had caused the listing to show $115 a night plus applicable fees / taxes when in fact the cost was $275 a night, before the fees and taxes. Hey Airbnb, I'm not sure who is checking their emails at 3:00 a.m. but I have a 9-5 job, so I sleep at night. I saw the email later in the morning, after I had already told my family about the nice vacation that we would be taking. The reservation was automatically canceled and I was basically told "oh well... tough on you." Of course I was offered "comparable places" that I had already spent hours sifting through and passed up for the reservation that I made. "Comparable"... I don't think so. There are other vacation rental sites out there and I will be using one of them from now on. TERRIBLE customer service and I have asked that my account be deleted and suggest you do the same. I will retire in 5 years and will be doing a lot of traveling at that point. Not only will I not book any of the trips through Airbnb, I will tell my story to anyone who will listen during my travels.
Air bnb decided to cancel my account, before I even got to use it, this is such a joke, I set up an account for air bnb yesterday and paid for our room as soon as payment went thru air bnb cancels my account for being a " potential threat", to air bnb? 7excuse me for having the money to pay for my room? And sending the front and back of my I'd and ssn, seriously this is the worst experience getting a room! We will go somewhere else to find a place to stay and never try using this crappy service and there customer service is worst then ever! We live in USA speak english!
2020 Jan. I'm using Airbnb for years, but I realised that they getting so full with crap, their business model start showing signs of racketeering. It's NOT what it used to be! They keep jacking up prices by the day, so if you thought of a reservation and saved it to get some answers from the host... all the sudden next day the price is higher. Then the price shown in CAD (as my selection) all the sudden changing in USD when I click the reserve button, meaning that they ripping me off with the exchange rate and making me to pay 2.5 % more on my credit card. Service fee is getting crazy, same as certain city's all kinds of mambo jumbo taxes...
Airbnb potentially puts the general public at risk. Gun violence, hidden cameras, rape and other assaults are very real occurrences that Airbnb fails to take reasonable measures to prevent or mitigate. According to one of their support representatives, hosts or guests don't have to undergo any sort of background check to list their property on Airbnb or be hosted on Airbnb. This means that sex offenders, convicted murderers, drug dealers etc can list their property and host families with small children, sharing their home with said family, while Airbnb fails to take any measures to protect families and individuals in such a situation. I've personally encountered multiple situations where hosts openly admitted in writing to not washing all the bedding between guests. Of course, Airbnb didn't take any action or look into it. They have no effective set standard for policing or even encouraging basic cleanliness, which potentially puts the health of the public at risk.
Airbnb,
Am disappointed with airbnb, that a host can write a racist review and you don't see anything wrong with it.
I will never use Airbnb, your customers services is bad.
This show you take anybody who comes wanting to host their house without, careful educating them.
If I can give more less than 1 star, I would have. I don't recommend anybody to book from you guys, because you don't care about guest only what they can offer you.
Holy! Hannah! Steer clear! Warning everyone! This woman is a psycho! She puts false prices out there and claims she is the victim! I went on to book my family vacation and she quoted me a much lesser price. My boyfriend goes on inquiring about the same property and calls us scammers. She is a disgusting human being and should be held accountable.
I am extremely disgusted with the service given by airbnb. In the process of booking a villa in VT a fee was taken from my account when the stay was denied by the host. This didn't happen one time but twice due to the Gateway agency. While emailing with the agency I was lead to believe the villa was available and that the request didn't go through. Therefore, I processed it again and was denied again. If a stay is denied funds shouldn't be taken out of a person's account. Now today, I am told it will take 14 days to receive my refund. Take my advice and avoid this site; it's more work than help!
Airbnb will not provide exact details for where you staying. They give you an approximate location, which could be as much as an hour away. I booked a trip and ended up 45 mins from the town and was given no refund after misleading locations on the map. When I reached out to cancel and get a refund they basically told me to go $#*! myself. I was given no refund and had to rebook last minute.
This is absolutely insane I had made an account with Airbnb verified my information I proceed to make a reservation they take my money and then about 30 minutes later I get an email letting me know that they canceled my reservation because of criminal Record match! You have to be completely kidding me right now I have a record from when I was a teenager- 20s I'm 30 years old now this is absolutely ridiculous! Now it's going to take five business days to get my money back which means I can't even set another reservation to get a hotel because it's gonna take forever to get my money back! Worst experience ever - if you have any type of background I would not recommend doing this or else the same thing will happen to you!
We booked a place through Airbnb in US. Once we arrived booking was canceled, I was on the phone for hours with 6 different operators, no support no help to the point that I was forced to book a hotel by myself.Don't risk your good time with Airbnb.
The room I rented had bed bugs. I realized it at 11 pm. But the real horror was Aurbnb s response. The customer service agent offered no apology and requested bed bug casings. Really?
It was my first and definitely the last experience with using Airbnb. I am highly disappointed with the way they handled my case. The case manger literally took into account the superhost's site of story over mine. Airbnb provided zero support upon staying in a "sparkling clean" and "safe location" in Paris, reservation run by the superhost. Horrified to discover I slept on filthy stains of god knows what in the neighbourhood full of prostitutes.
Airbnb literally chosen to keep a good business relationship with the host over my safety. It is a questionable how on earth a rude and sarcastic owner of the flat could be the superhost. Please note Airbnb's replay to my complaint regard the suspicious stains on the duvet covers was this is not a hotel sparkling clean' standard so please watch out for the misleading descriptions. At the end of the day is down to business deal and making money rather than your comfort and safety.
I'm very upset this was my first time using Airbnb. I looked on numerous sites before going back to the airbnb site I thought I finally found a cabin in our price range that I really liked. Went to book it put my credit card information on there they excepted it. I was very happy for a brief moment till it came up that my cabin was cancelled. Then I got a call from the mountain sites and city cabin in sevierville Tennessee host. They proceeded to tell us our booking was cancelled due to there problem with there payment methods now. But we will get our money we payed them and have been saving for weeks in about 7 days. But we could pay them with pay pal now and still have to wait for the money Airbnb just withdrew from my account. First of all I've been saving for weeks to just pay that. So I called Airbnb but they have been no help as of yet 2 hours later. Now we have to wait to book another cabin for a week and probably not get the week we took off work for. This just seems very unprofessional to me. I personally believe the website should be held responsible for this inconvenience and people should be some how compensated for this in terms of some discount. And still 2 hours later I still have not a cancellation email from airbnb just and email they charged my card.
I booked six weeks at a place called mellow yellow in cedar key Florida on airbnb. The host cancelled the reservation saying that Ainbnb charge me the wrong amount. I recommend staying at a hotel where this isn't a issue. Hotels honor there booking.
Overpriced, use alternative websites. They will raise your rates significantly, as they monitor your strong interest of a specific property. Their competitors are typically cheaper & user friendly. By giving them one star, I have been kind.
We had a horrible Airbnb experience. The worse part is how it was handled by Airbnb - they completely supported the host (who lied about the rental) and we lost over $2k because we were forced to leave the property and find another rental!
We were booked with host, Esteban in Fort Myers, 2/17-24. Esteban cancelled 1/20. Less than 1 month notice. Can not find anything comperable in price or quality. Contacted Airbnb every way possible. I called, Willow, was rude and dismissive. She sent two messages, to which I promptly responded. Was told case was forwarded. No further correspondence. Case was closed.
They expect me to be satisfied that my money was refunded. SERIOUSLY?! I did nothing wrong.
Plane tickets for multiple legs of trip and rental cars. No place to stay.
No way to leave negative feedback for Esteban.
I wrote an honest review about a property but AIRBNB protected host and removed my review. I had no heat on a freezing night but AIRBNB did not care because they had already collected their commission. I provided all the evidence but they simply rejected all of it and sided with Host simply because they made their money and there is zero customer service. In short, you are on your own if you had a bad experience then you will never get your money back. AIRBNB is more like a scam.
I never thought that this Airbnb website was a fraud. We planned a vacation in Denver CO and booked a house for 6 adults and a 2 year old. Due to weather conditions we never got to Denver. We left Orlando to Houston and from Houston we didn't get out because of bad weather in the North. The best option was to cancel the reservation and return to Orlando FL since that was the only weekend available to everyone. The cost of the reservation for 3 nights was $ 545.92 dollars my daughter called to cancel and they only returned $ 65.00 dollars. It is a robbery in broad daylight, we called to know why I only returned $65 dollars if we had explained the situation and their response was that they only returned the money if they had closed the airport completely or if by hospitalization. This is a scam, we can't change the reservation for another month of January 2020 to March 2020 because we already canceled it... Tell me if this is not a scam. From my it's first and last time they rob us.
Outrageous charges for cancellation
I have made a reservation on Airbnb for summer of 2020. My plans did not work and I have decided to cancel in in January of 2020 (months in advance). They subtracted $120 (about 14 percent) of my deposit. I have complained with Airbnb and they said that they did mention a service fee! 1- NO Where during my reservation they mentioned a subtraction of 14% from my money.
2- They say that this is my third time canceling, they are going to charge me! I have made reservation hundreds times and canceled in other plate form such as home exchange and Expedia and so on and NEVER been charged for a cancellation months before the trip! They choose an arbitrary number and choose to charge me!
It is truly stealing my money and outrageous. NO wonder they have such a low rating. I am for sure NOT going to use their site ever again.
Answer: AirBnB is the worst. You might be able to go to the resolution centre, but previous posts are correct. Watch your money with them. Once they make an error it's hard to get it back. You may have to go through the credit card you charged it to and even then the dispute process might take awhile. Hopefully, you have other money to use in the mean time or the date of your trip is at least weeks out? They are asking you to "verify your ID" so they can gain access to your linked in, Facebook and google contacts. They say it's a security measure to protect you and everyone else but it's not. They are pirating your info. They take your contacts and use it as a marketing tool for themselves or sell the contacts to other distributors. It's very common with sites like this now. If you want to continue using AirBnB you have no choice unfortunately.
Answer: Being a host, I can say that when things are going good, all is great, but if something goes wrong, as a host, you will not get the support from Airbnb that is promised. They do not stand behind their hosts, I find they like to a facade that all is great in the land of Airbnb. I have cancelled my listing and will not deal with them anymore in the future.
Answer: As a host & licensed realtor with multiple properties in both Los Angeles & Las Vegas which I book directly and also have listed with multiple vacation rental agencies, SAVE YOURSELF TIME, MONEY & AGGRAVATION by booking either DIRECTLY with the host or through other REPUTABLE Agencies, such as Roomorama.
Answer: I haven't been a host, but would certainly recommend that you read ALL the reviews here before getting involved with Airbnb. I can't think of ANY business of ANY type I would patronize that got a 1.5 star rating after 382 reviews.
Answer: They offered $25 discount of next booking I just chose to go else where
Answer: You don't. The only thing that you can be sure of is that if you have a problem Airbnb will be unreachable. They hide from dissatisfied customers and hosts alike. You are taking big chances when you deal with them. The benefits just aren't worth the risks.
Answer: No, you would be lucky and have to fight to get a refund if you cancel 1 day after you make the reservation!
Answer: Hello, First, the credit card co. Needs to be notified and will refund the amount spent. In turn, the cc co. Will backcharge. Airbnb is notorious for these types transactions and should be shutdown. Your son has learned a business lesson... research a business prior to do business!
Answer: This is the root of my problem with AIRBNB. They do not check to see if a host can legitimately rent the place they are advertising. In my experience, the host cancelled 48 hours before, claimed she was going to be evicted if she rented to me. I was only 3000 miles from home. AIRBNB offered me a 10% discount to rebook another place. I did not and will not use them again.
Answer: Susan's answer is very thorough and I agree with her. Even more important when booking places outside your country of origin to ensure you don't get a flea pit. Also, always look at the reviews, they are very important. If there is a really bad review, don't stay there. You need to check the locations online as well. You don't want to be in a bad, dangerous area... this just happened to someone staying in Philadelphia. If you have a problem, the AirBnB website is useless. Google the AirBnB customer service number from your location. Renee
