I ordered a book, and unfortunately because they "did not have updated information" from the seller, I ordered a book they they did not actually have. Then sent me a email saying "it's okay because they didn't charge me."
THEY DID CHARGE ME. And refused a refund because I needed to talk to my bank. Then I didn't know what I was talking about and "I'm confused" and don't know how to read my own online banking because a charge that was clearly there wasn't there to them. They are rude and disrespectful. Don't wait time or money.
After months of not hearing from anyone at Greenwoods Traders, AbeBooks responded to my messages and are providing me with a courtesy refund! That has changed my opinion of them entirely, but I still want to warn folks not to use Greenwoods Traders.
AbeBooks not only failed to send the book I ordered for a Fathers Day gift, but also refused to respond. Greenwood Traders was the actual seller and they never responded either. $18 total - $13 for the book and $5 for delivery that didn't happen! Never order from either of them.
I should have read these reviews before ordering from them. The reviews are so skewed between negative and positive reviews it is easy for one to tell who is an actual customer and who works for Abes PR department trying to run damage control. I ordered a textbook which was described as used but almost new condition. The following day I received an email stating the book was an E-book - yet they were charging me $9.99 for shipping, $7.20 for commission and $4.95 for a process and handling fee in addition to the price of the book (e-book). Tried to contact customer service, impossible - yet they went ahead and processed my credit card. THIS ONLINE BOOK COMPANY SUCKS! BUYER BEWARE - DO NOT USE THEM!
I have been blacklisted from this company, because I didn't like their product. Then they had me blacklisted from other companies. Would you put a sticker on a Mickey Mantle card? I think not. Little does this company know, I have over 400 of the mags they were trying to sell me. Guess what, AMAZON BABY. THIS COMPANY BLOWS
I was supposed to receive a set of books because that's what the description state. I only received 1 book.
I emailed the company w wrap times over 3 weeks without a single reply.
I ordered a book on August 18 2022, order #*******. Per Abe Books record the book supposedly was shipped on September 1st 2022 seller Ergode Books of Houston, TX. As of September 23rd book has not arrived and the seller has not responded to phone calls or Emails. Payment has already been processed and Abe Books refuses to refund purchase price.
I boutght two oversize books. First one displayed a beautiful bookcover yet it arrived tattered and raty. Second, I bought a second oversize book and I think they reneged on the deal because it was rare and claimed somebody bought it after I had ordered it. How could that be? I have collected books on two continents and for 40 years. I will never buy a book from this people ever again. NEVER AGAIN!
Not sure why Abebooks has such a low rating. Sure the books are used, but their condition is noted. Any book I have received was what I expected, and you can't beat free shipping
I ordered a University textbook for my son (to be shipped form the UK to South Africa), because I could not find it locally anywhere.
Less than an hour after ordering though - on a SUNDAY - my son found a second hand version via a friend.
I immediately tried to cancel my order, via 3 different channels (email, web form and, return function).
On Monday mid morning I was finally responded to and told my order could not be cancelled as it had already been picked - not SENT mind you, just selected form a shelf. So I should wait for it to arrive and then I could send it back... again it was getting sent half way around the world to South Africa, that makes no sense. It was still right there!
Now over 2 months later it has not arrived, and their only comment is, 'oh well let us know if you want to order another one, it must be lost in the mail...'. No tracking number, no details, no interest, no nothing.
Wow fabulous customer service all around. NOT. Thanks for literally nothing Abe books, except costing me money.

I use abebooks to get deals on new books. So far all of my purchases has been successful and i've gotten what i wanted. If your just looking for some cheaper books this is the place!
I have never had a problem with any vendor on Abebooks. You must choose your best option based on condition, location, Shipping costs, etc. People whoa are dissatisfied don't do their due diligence.
And I learned through their website it will cost me more than half of what I paid to send it back. Don't use stock photography to sell your stuff!
Let me start by saying that my only experience buying from AbeBooks' site was great. I live in the US and purchased the Australian edition of The Book Thief from Manyhills Books. The price was decent, even after international shipping fees, and the book arrived over a month before the deadline, and it's in great shape. If I were allowed to rate the seller, I would give Manyhills Books 5 stars. However, AbeBooks itself gets two stars for the reason that you CAN'T rate the booksellers.
The rating system on this site is based solely on order fulfillment (how quickly it arrived, that sort of thing) and it's rated automatically. If you had any problems with the delivery or the product itself, you can't write a review to warn other customers. So while a seller may look reputable because of their 5 star rating, there's no way of knowing if they actually deserve that rating. Their books may arrive on time but come in unusable shape—or be a completely different item than what you ordered—and they'd still receive a 5 star rating from the system. The rating system is extremely deceptive, making ordering from this site very risky.
Despite my own great experience with purchasing from AbeBooks, I would not recommend using them. It's a gamble, as you could either have a great experience or a nightmarish experience, as you can tell from all the bad reviews. Unless you're willing to take the risk, avoid AbeBooks and try to find your books elsewhere.
They take your Money, get a ship label in Pre-Shipment Status, then NEVER SEND THE ITEMS! I wish I would have known. Wanted to use other Vendors than AMAZON Losers.

I fell for their sellback price offer and agreed to sell my book to them. They sent me the shipping label.
Within 1 month, I have not heard back from Abebooks so I wrote them an email since they do not provide any phone numbers.
But they never responds any of my emails.
I think they just did scam me, took my book and refused to pay me with the price they offered.
It has been 6 months and it got to a point where I am getting tired to reach them and just let them steal my book.
I just want to share this so anybody else will learn from the mistake I made.
I bought from a 4 different sellers. 2 I had no problem with the the other 2 were useless. I provided my long zipcode because I know its required for the post office to deliver it. So needless today I didnt get a few of my books. One seller refunded me and said they were sorry for the inconvenience. They couldn't send me another one. The other one was sent back because again the didn't use the long zipcode when I provided it. I contacted them and they sent me another copy the same price and they made the same mistake and didn't use the long zip code. Never ordering on here again.
How can you sell Christian items and steal money too? You don't respond to emails for help. Basically you took my $16.04 and ran with it without sending my order. PLEASE UNLESS YOU WANT TO THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY, DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT ORDER FROM ABE BOOKS BECAUSE YOU WILL BE TAKING A RISK! Truly wished

Ordered my book using expedite shipping and what do you know, I got it within 3 days just in time to complete my homework assignment! I'm glad I chose to go with Abe's books!
Book failed to arrive despite reassurance from seller. Now I see the book relisted on their site waiting for the next sucker to "buy" it. How can ABE give this scammer a high rating?
Answer: I've not had the bad experiences of the previous reviewers. That said, choose your sellers carefully. Just as on ebay, etc., check the reviews of the seller. One of the sellers I use often on Abe is Hippo Books. They sent me an email recently that the book I ordered from them was not the advertised quality and that their packers caught the mistake. The book was not salvagable and was regrettably destroyed. They checked their stock and did not have another copy at all. They promptly refunded my money without me having to ask. They were apologetic and I have since then purchased other books from them with dependable and accurate results. Another seller I use is Owls Books. They refunded my money after one email to them when I complained that the condition of the book I received did not match the advertisement. Again, absolutely no hassle and good results since then. I like to use sellers in close proximity to my residence or at least in the same state. Your experience will, as always, will depend on your due diligence as a buyer.
Answer: Avoid this business if you can. I had been told by a Professor that they were a good site to purchase from - NOT! The "Bookseller" keeps changing the shipping date after first denying they even had an order for me from Abe's. Not worth the couple of dollars you MIGHT save.
